Business Website Question

I created a website using iWeb and published it to a folder. Then, I went to a webhost and bought a desired domain and published my site using the webhost (uploaded using ftp). Someone else wants me to make them a website and I'm wondering if they will be able to go to the site through the host later using FrontPage or DreamWeaver to make changes to the site (I don't want to do continuing maintenance and they are not mac users).
Second, I don't understand the limiting of resolution and file size for photos. Is iWeb adjusting the resolution down automatically? I don't want to eat up the storage space with unnecessary largeness!
Thanks for reading and I'm looking forward to any suggestions and answers.
Linda

Hi Linda, you're in luck as your friend can edit the files after you create and publish the site to their hosting site. They just normal html pages. Hopefully, they know how do web design and editing in FrontPage or Dreamweaver. It's a bit more complicated than iWeb. Otherwise, tell them to buy a Mac.
As for picture sizes see my comments in the thread at http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4126032#4126032
Hope that helps.

  • Plugin or API from Adobe (for Adobe Reader) for Business Website?

I am looking for a plugin or API from Adobe (Adobe Reader or whatever will accomplish this) that can be added to our business website to make it easier for users to search through our manuals when they have questions about using the software. Does it exist? I want users to be able to type in a string and have the Adobe product search through all our PDF files for the file/page with that information.
If I am in the wrong forum please redirect me because I have been trying get help with this since 8am. Thank you.

Ok, you can go with one of the following:
    * A search engine on the web server. There may well be one there already, needing to be set up to search a particular folder. Or you may be able to configure a search page without any need for setup. Refer to your web server admin.
    * An intranet search engine. There may be one already on your intranet, just needing to be set up. Or you may be able to configure a search page without any need for setup. Refer to your intranet admin.
    * A variation on the intranet search engine is the search box, such as the google appliance, a separate box on the internal network which becomes your private Google. Pricy, but readily understood by senior management.

If the site has been optimised for IE (which is non-standards compliant), the best you can try is to spoof IE from Safari.
I'm using an earlier version of Safari than you, so I hope Allan or someone will correct me if the procedure is different.
    First, go to Safari Preferences and enable the developer menu;
Then go to the menu and select User Agent - choose a flavour of IE.
Works about 50% of the time.
It won't work if the site is using Activex controls.

  • Creating a small business website...

Hello! I would like to create a small business website using iweb. I created something simple, and I am happy with it, but I was wondering if anyone knew how I could use it with a regular website address (www.company.com) instead of web.mac.com/company and still use iweb. Any tips or advice would be great. Thanks!

Images (actually graphics) loaded fine in the previous version of firefox, but now do not open in firefox 5. It is our business' website. it opens and looks fine in explorer and other browsers. However, please goto www.trinitystone.biz (using Firefox 5)and look at how the top menu bar has a black box surrounding it and the bottom menu also has this black bar. It is not supposed to be there, if you view the site from IE, you will see what it is supposed to look like. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

  • Launching my Business' Website with iWeb '06

I'll try to keep this brief. Here's where I stand thusfar:
1.) I am putting together my small business' startup website using iWeb 06, due to its ease of use, having everything I need to make a nice startup site (particularly for my portfolio, blog & podcasting) & ability to update easily. However this WILL be a company site, so I need to find hosting besides mac.com.
2.) I own my domain names through Godaddy.com. I do have it set up right now to forward these addresses to my mac.com site.
3.) I need to add HTML code onto my site so I can have an opt-in list for those that want my newsletter.
4.) Eventually I will be selling my own products on my site, which I plan to use Paypal to handle payment. But I need a digital delivery system for my products.
I know there are many out there that have some great suggestions about programs & services that are ideal for the mac. Any info you could offer would be GREATLY appreciated. I am starting this up on a shoestring so money is a factor, however I see this as an investment & am willing to trade cash for ease of use (basically, if it's easy to use I'm willing to spend the cash on it).
    Thank you

Hey, thanks for your quick and helpful answer!
I wasn't sure it could be done with iWeb, since I tried to do it with my godaddy hosting package, and their off-the-rack website builder didn't allow for html code to be pasted. guess, iWeb allows for that.
My webdesigner told me, iWeb wasn't suitable for professional business websites (video & audio files, newsletters, autoresponders, password protected members' area, the works), only for granny sharing her fotos with her family... seems, he was wrong
    thanks again,

I created and maintain my business website on my macbook in iWeb.  Is there any way to move it to my desk top?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • North American Student Dashboard Challenge – Business Case Questions

Students, post your business case questions for the North American Student Dashboard Challenge here.
    Good luck with the challenge!

Two of the KPIs which need to be included in the dashboard are:
    1. Income vs Expenses
    2. Performance to Budget
There is no income statement in the attached excel files, we are just given statement of cash flow. For individual items under revenue and expense we need an income statement. This is required for designing dashboard for KPI 1.
For KPI 2, the case study asks to display comparison of Actual vs Budget for 4 revenue items - corporate, individual, foundations, and special events - as a chart component. The attached excel files does not have adequate information on this either.
I see only two spreadsheets in the Excel file JA Financial Statements 2006 - 2011 - 1. Statements of Functional Expense; and 2. Statements of Cash Flow - Table.
Please help what needs to be done here. The case study says to refer - Statement of Activites Tab from JA Financial Statements.xls for KPI 1 and KPI 2. However, there is no such spreadsheet on this Excel file. I have downloaded the project data from the following link: http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/uac/index?rid=/library/uuid/30ee1571-2533-2f10-31bd-8826243425ee

  • Best drag & drop & drop business website builder for MAC?

I built a business website with iweb 06 and it did a great job and was very user friendly! However, I later found out that it'll be useless for internet searches because it doesn't have HTML code in the background for Google's search spiders. iweb is for personal websites. I have to start all over. I need to be able to drag images and videos, resize as desired and anywhere I want without technical hassles and that can also take .flv movie files which I believe is the best universal media format for internet marketing purposes. Too bad iweb doesn't come out with a business friendly application. It's a great software, but not for the business community. Any recommendations out there for one that will work like iweb?

You can drag images and videos all over iWeb pages.
flv files are Flash Video files. Current flash video players support .m4v files, the ones you create with iMovie.
Here are samples for your pleasure to study and nim:
    http://www.wyodor.net/iFrame/
    http://www.wyodor.net/MoreEmbed/
And here are tutorials that explains how to embed such movies, or other HTML code, in an iWeb page.

[How to add a movie to your blog |http://www.wyodor.net/iWebBlogTest/Wyodor1/archives/2009/05/entry35.html] (Don't be misled by the title. It works equally well in iWeb.)
You may have to learn HTML/CSS/JavaScript.
    iweb is for personal websites.
There are lots of businesses who use iWeb. Since you did not state the business you're in, it's hard to tell why it won't work for you.
Too bad iweb doesn't come out with a business friendly application.
What's business friendly? Is a business different from +"very user friendly"+.
Anyway, ask for it ; http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
It's a great software, but not for the business community.
Perhaps not for the community, but it could be for you. Who decides?
that it'll be useless for internet searches because it doesn't have HTML code in the background for Google's search spiders
Write interesting content. People usually find you because they already know you.
Here are some observation that counter the Google-obsessed 'facts':
*Search Engine Optimization is not a legitimate form of marketing. It should not be undertaken by people with brains or souls. If someone charges you for SEO, you have been conned.*
+Make something great. Tell people about it. Do it again.+
+That’s it. Make something you believe in. Make it beautiful, confident, and real. Sweat every detail. If it’s not getting traffic, maybe it wasn’t good enough. Try again.+
+Remember this: *It’s not your job to create content for Google.*+
+Then do it again. And again. You’ll build a reputation for doing good work, meaning what you say, and building trust.+
+It’ll take time. A lot of time. But it works. And it’s the only thing that does.+

  • Setting up a business website for self and others

    Hi,
I'm looking for information regarding using adobe muse to setup a website for an online store. Specifically, using it to setup a website for a friend or loved one.
My girlfriend is starting up a jewellery business and needs a website to sell her products online, rather than have her pay someone to do this I figured I could do it myself as I've been intending to purchase Muse for my own projects.
She needs all the typical features of an online store, can someone confirm this is achievable via adobe muse?
One point I'm quite uncertain of, is how I give her creative control so she can make changes and updates on her own? I know I can install muse on 2 computers, but was more interested in perhaps enabling her to update her website with her own muse account. So I would be developing the website initially, then once it's up and running I would like to show her how to manage it through her own 'copy' (if it were physical software) of muse, is this feasible?
Any help and detailed information would be great. I do apologise if this has been covered many times before, it seems like a basic question but I can't find any info in the FAQ etc.
    Thanks

    Hi _onz,
Something I did several years ago (before I had Muse) when my wife began her jewelry business was create a website in the traditional way (at that time using Fireworks and Dreamweaver), but rather than have people buying directly from her site, there was a link to her Etsy shop. She could personalize the Etsy shop as much as she wanted, add/subtract jewelry on the fly, etc.
There are some good e-commerce solutions out there. One that looks promising is Shoplocket. You can check it out here at MuseThemes.
To your point about a lack of quality tutorials, I somewhat agree. The ones Adobe provide, albeit free, are more hit and miss. I've had better luck at Lynda.com where they offer video courses on the various software. Of course, they're not free, but for $25/mo. I've gotten a lot of value from them.
    Good luck!

  • Business Catalyst Question

Hello. I am very new to making websites and I was asked to make one for a charity. They sell items to raise money for their cause. Anyway, I signed up to use the Business Catalyst and I know what I want to do. How to I use these templates? I see a box that says "hover over what you want to edit and click", but I can't edit anything. For example, changing the text on the template. Can I even do that? Is that what these templates are for? Is there a link to a more in depth tutorial that I am not finding? The ones on here don't answer my questions.

  • Iweb ok for small business website???

Hi all : ) I have no html experience and was considering paying a pro to make me a website for my business project. Then I heard about Iweb: quick and easy, perfect! I got the program and been messing with it and it is a snap. However, I can't seem to come up with anything that makes me go WOW! Perhaps it due to my lack of creativity, experience, or limitations of the program, I am not sure.
So my question is do you think Iweb is appropriate for developing a professional looking website, and if so, where could I find some examples of business sites that were produced with Iweb? Or, should I go in another direction?
    Thanks!

PayPal is a great way to integrate secure payments into an iWeb site. That's the payment method that's used on http://iWebFAQ.com/PayPal. Adding PayPal to your iWeb site requires html file editing of your after Publishing. Fortunately there are many resources that will help you learn to integrate Paypal into your site. http://iWebUserSites.com is a comprehensive list of sites created with iWeb. Search through iWebUserSites.com and see what kind of business techniques/designs are included there.
    Good Luck :^)
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • International ecommerce website questions

    I have two quick questions.
    1) Will google translate work with business catalyst ecommerce website?
    2) Has anyone here ever used International Checkout with business catalys? Does it work?
    Thanks again in advance!

    Hi there,
    1. Since Google translate is just a JS widget you embed on your site it will work with BC.
    2. I know that barcelonasouvenirs.com has different subdomains for different currencies and it's redirecting people automatically depending on where they're based.

  • Another iWeb/MobileMe business site question...

I have read the ToS and understand that you are not really supposed to use MobileMe to host a website on which items are sold. Is it also against the ToS to have a website that just provides information about your business (product descriptions, contact info, etc)?

There are a lot of iWeb business sites on MMe.
The general impression is that if you want more than just pages, iWeb/MMe is not suitable for business.
So a webstore with a client database, online ordering and paymant is not possible, because MMe does not support PHP, SSI, CGI and MySQL. Cryptic words you need to do business.
But having items for sale and use PayPal is a good combination.
The moderators will no doubt modify this post if I said something that violates the Terms of Use.
