BusinessObject Explorer Characteristic Text in Infospace

Hi There - I have a the text of a characteristic ZPRODH5 as a facet in the infospace. The characteristic ZPRODH5 is an attribute of 0MATERIAL and does not have master data, but only Medium Text. I have populated the text after I have done RSDDTPS on the cube and created the infospace. I went back to the infospace and noticed that the text is not updated in the infospace. Does anybody has the same problem ?

Refresh characteristic texts in query result without logoff in Bex 7.0

Dear Experts,
I'm using a query in BEx 7.0 and switched off all caching parameters in RSRT. For instantly reloading values from Cube/DSO this is working fine.
Some of my characteristics are shown as key + text in query result. Unfortulately these texts are not updated during the query reloads. I do not want the user to logoff / logon the report to get the updated texts.
Interestingly, after a refresh the texts for those characteristics are updated immediately for all filter items, but not in the result area.
Could you give me a hint, how I will be able to refresh those characteristic texts as same as the values in the infoprovider? E.g. using VBA makros or by customizing of specific workbook settings?

In Bex update after attribute change run
The setting of this paramter I mentioned there could maybe help in your case.
   transaction "RS_FRONTEND_INIT" add the parameter "ANA_ENHANCE_REFRESH" with value "X"
   o Open the analyzer and connect to system to open WB
   o Click on the refresh button
   o New functionallity "Full Refresh Of Active Queries" is now available.

How to display a Column Header for the characteristic Text column

Hi All
Our users want me to provide for a column header for the characteristic text.
Here is what I mean
I am reporting 0plant in the rows as key and Text. In the column on Plant Key the column header says Plant but there is no column header for the plant text.
Eq:
Plant                                                        Amount
IE00         Initiator Plant                               244
IE01         Initiator Plant NJ                          890
Our users in the plant text column want a dummy column header to be displayed. SInce they download the data from the BW report to Excel and use pivot reporting. How can I introduce a column header for the texts.

Hi Karen,
I am not sure if this is possible, although Users can ask anything :).
In Planning we used to predefine cell headings via Macros and creating dummy cells in between. I am not sure if a similar scenario can work here.
By default this is not possible in Reports. In BEx workbooks, you could probably try with Macros.
Another easy option is to bring the data in the Cube as another field or create a nav. attribute in the master for text and use it as a nav. attr. in the Cube and put it in your Query row alongside.

BusinessObjects Explorer The creation of the data source object tree failed

Hi,
I'm trying to create a new information space in BusinessObjects Explorer 4.0. When I select the Universe I want to use and click "New" Information Space I get the following error.
Failed to retrieve the data source details.
The creation of the data source object tree failed.
I'm just using a local installation, BI Platform 4.0, Client Tools, and Explorer are all installed on my Windows 7 machine. It's intended to be a demo environment.
Any guidance would be appreciated!

Hi Jeff,
first of all BI4 Enterprise is not supported on Windows 7 and it may not work properly for various reasons.
But you can give this a try:
Update the command line parametres of each of the Explorer Services to use a different value for the connection server libraries
The changes are made to the command line of each of the Explorer services
- Master
- Exploration
- Indexing
- Search
Remove the following from the command line parameters of the existing Explorer services
-connectivity_dir "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0//dataAccess/connectionServer"
Example of the original Explorer Master server command line parameters:
-Djava.awt.headless=true -Dosgi.configuration.area=configuration.BI40.ExplorerMasterServer1 -server -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Dosgi.clean=true -Xmx1g -jar plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.101.R34x_v20081125.jar -loggingPath "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/logging/" -connectivity_dir "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0//dataAccess/connectionServer" -serverkind explorerMaster
And update the server command line parameters with the following:

Enable selection/marking of characteristic text

Dear all,
I have the following problem in my BI reports on the portal: end user want to be able to copy and paste (e.g. in Excel) characteristic texts. The selection/marking of the characteristics is not possible though-only drag and drop.
Can someone help me with this? This would be great,I am pretty desperate

Hi,
It seems that the issue is explorer.exe crashing. Since the issue can always be caused by incompatible shell extension or driver conflict.
We can first use shellexView to disable non-Microsoft related extensions of Windows Explorer to see what’s going on:
1. Download ShellExView v1.41 from the following link
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.zip
Please Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise,
regarding this product's performance or reliability.
2. Extract "shexview.zip" file and open shexview.exe. It will scan the registry for all the shell extensions.
3. Select all the non-Microsoft extensions in pink by press "Ctrl" in the keyboard.
4. Click the "Disable Selected Items" on the toolbar and click Yes.
5. Restart your computer and check if the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, then test the issue in Clean Boot and Safe Mode, and let me know the results.
Meanwhile, please configure Windows to create user-mode dumps. Create a System Restore Point first.
If you copy and paste the following in Notepad and save as a .reg file, then right-click the .reg file and select "Merge" to add to the registry, a .dmp file at the time explorer.exe crashes should be created in the C:\CrashDumps folder:

How to add Characteristic text to Key figures in Bex report?

The result set of a report is like this

The first Column Payment amount, Commission and Total are key figures.
Payment and recovery are text of a Characteristic Infoobject ( Flag type : X = Payment, # = Recovery ).
Now the requirement is not to have Characteristic Infobject as Column but to have them as text beside keyfigure.

How to achieve this kind of result?

Create Restricted Keyfigures to achieve this requirement.
create 2 RKF for Payment Amount Keyfigure
Create RKF1 with Payment Amount keyfigure and restrict flag type with "X" and then
Create RKF2 with Payment Amount keyfigure and restrict flag type with "#".
And use the RKF's in the query.
Similarly create two RKF's for each Keyfigure used in the query and restrict it with flag type.

Barcode in BusinessObjects report becomes text when report is saved as PDF

We have a BusinessObjects report that produces information as both text and barcodes. The barcode portion uses the "Code 3 of 9" (Code 39) font to represent the information. When the report is saved as a PDF from BusinessObjects, the barcode portion appears as text. Has anyone experienced this with BusinessObjects, and is there a solution?

The PSReportFactory service, CR Page Server, is only for viewing Crystal Report formats, and not instances in other formats.
For the other formats, ensure you list the SI_FILES property in the InfoStore query, then cast the resulting InfoObject to IContent. The IContent interface support methods to stream the file content from the File Repository Server.

SDK development for SAP BusinessObjects Explorer Accelerated version

Hi all,
in one of our project we need to use the engine of Explorer Accelerated an SDK application.
Is it possible or does exists sdk libraries for using only the search component of Explorer?
What we need is something that give to Explorer box our search request and give back to us a result that could be a table/webi report/xml file without using the webinterface itself of Explorer.

Characteristic texts from Query in APD

Hello Comiunity,
In BI 7.0 Iu2019ve created an Query. This Query shows (long) texts for characteristic. When I use the Query in BEx Web Analyzer and BEx Analyzer these texts are displayed correctly.
Now I have to use the Query as a source in an analysis process in the APD. Result of this analysis process is a CSV file. It seems like the APD doesnu2019t work with the texts for the characteristic. In the result CSV file only the keys of the charactersisics are show u2013 not the texts.
How can I use characteristics texts in APD? At moment I join the text tables of the characteristics. But is there a more elegant solution for this problem?

Hi Andreas,
unfortunately not. APD does only consider the keys (internal presentation) and ignores all kinds of query output properties (display like text, scaling key figures etc.).
Apparantly, you want to persist the query result in a way which is close to the Bex output, right? I would guess that APD is not suitable for that.

Report problem when show attribute only Characteristic text master data

I want to show the attribute only Characteristic in report. In report, it shows "Not assigned" for the Char row, but other data show properly. I checked the Char text master data. It looks fine. I don't what's problem?

hi robert,
some of your characteristics probably don't have the attribute assigned (meaning they have a blank value for that attribute). i don't know if this is configurable, but blank entries all display as '#' and the text 'Not Assigned'.
(as an additional comment, if you take a look at the masterdata of the attribute you used (which i presume exists), there should be a blank entry there.)
for example, in the case of the deletion flag of an article, not all articles are flagged for deletion. if you create a report that displays the article number and the deletion flag attribute, you'll see quite a bunch of 'not assigned'/'X' in your output.

BusinessObjects Explorer Accelerated

We just installed BWA 7.2 with the BOE 2.0 blade and BO Accelerator 1.0. Also, we are running BW 7.01 SP10 at this time. We installed BOE 4.02 SP9 to use with the accelerators. Is this the accelerated version of BOE or should we be using X.I 3.2? We are also installing BO Enterprise Suite 4.0. The documentation we've read is not very clear on which version is accelerated.

Exploring BWA indexes in Explorer means accelerated. If you index and explore Universes (UNX) or Excel files that is non-accelerated.
In BOE 4.02 Patch 9 CMC -> Applications -> Explorer just enter the connection details to your BWA blade, for example:
com.businessobjects.datadiscovery.dataprovider.trex.host=<BWA HOST NAME or IP>
com.businessobjects.datadiscovery.dataprovider.trex.port=30016
Then restart Explorer servers and log in Explorer -> Manage Spaces you should see the BWA indexes listed.

Explorer HTML text flash bug?

Hello!
I have the following problem for a dynamically created
textfield:
mytext.text = "bold textgreen";
Even tough it works great in the Flash environment, it will
render differently in an IE7 browser.
In Firefox, it renders the bold and class tags correctly. IE7
doesn't render anything, it show only plain text: "bold
textgreen"...
If I change text to htmlText, IE7 will render the bold tags
but no class [stylesheet] tags correctly... and Firefox will only
show the bold tags, no line breaks and no class [stylesheet] tags
correctly?
AS2 had some bugs regarding html rendering but I don't think
I ever had this problem regarding html text back then...

I too am experiencing the same bug with my own site. The only
thing that makes me feel better about the situation is this problem
is seen on Adobe's home page as well. If you pull up a browser in
Linux and view the homepage, you will notice that the pull down
menu on this site falls under the flash animation.
My only solution so far is to check the clients OS and if
it's reported as a Linux box then to serve up a static image
instead. This only works if the OS is being reported correctly to
the server... Not a good overall solution though.
Does anyone know if any fix is underway?

Displaying the Keyfigure values as characteristic/text

Is there any option of displaying the values of a CKF/Formula as Text.
If Result of the logic applied in CKF/Formula is >1 then it should be displayed as TRUE else it should be displayed as FALSE.
How can i achieve this.

Hi,
you got 2 options, using boolean function in the calculated key figure/formula. then display either 0 or 1 for true and false.
other option, if you wanted to display as text, true or false. you need to create a virtual keyfigure for this, populate true or false by using standard Badi implementation.
