Hi
I am currently testing the BO LCM 3.1 and while it appears very easy to use especially for promotion, the Version Control Manager seems to be lacking in controls and a clear promotion path from dev to test to uat to prod.
We have set up 2 identical environments for UAT and PROD.
And using the Version Control part of LCM creating version control for a universe.
Logged into VM in UAT
We have selected a universe
Added it to VM
Made a change to the universe in Designer
Exported it
Then Checked it in
Can now see 2 versions in the history and the VMS Version. All good
I then click on swap system and log into PROD
The VM history is also there in PROD
I have a number of concerns and questions and can't seem to find the solution to them anywhere.
1. VM seems to be lacking a controlled process from all the environments. Basically we want to deploy following this path;
Dev - Test - UAT - PROD
There does not seem to be any controls or security which would stop you from GET VERSION from the DEV environment and putting that straight into PROD. Obviously we would not want that to happen.
We would only want to GET VERSION from UAT
Similarly for UAT We would only want to GET VERSION from TEST
And for TEST We would only want to GET VERSION from DEV.
Granted, we currently only have 2 identical environments.
But Is there controls that would stop you when in PROD from getting versions from any other system other than UAT?
Also is there any reason why no promotion is required when using VM.
This seems to negate the Promotion Function of the LCM
Any advise would be greatly appreciated with this.
Many thanks
Eilish

• Check installation cosistency of Lifecycle Manager LCM

Hi guys,
we have the LCM installed, but I'm not sure, if it is correctly installed.
If I open CMC -> Applications I can see an entry LCM.
1) This entry has no description?!?!
2) I can't even set the user security for this application.
Can you please share your expereince with that? Is there a general way how to check an installation?
Please have a look into your installation and look if you have a description and if you can set user security for this application....thanks in advance!
Rg,
Christian

errr...
Maybe you could try another method to launch the Software Inventory tool :
1. Go to your java install dir (on windows default is C:\ProgramFiles\BusinessObjects\common\4.0\java\lib)
2. Launch this command (of course, adapting it to your env)
C:\ProgramFiles\BusinessObjects\javasdk\bin\java -Djava.library.path=.\external -Xmx256M -jar "C:\ProgramFiles\BusinessObjects\common\4.0\java\lib\softwareInventory.jar" gui

• BusinessObjects Enterprise HOST NAME PROBLEMS

As we can find in other posts, we know that BO has problems with underscore in the host name.
I read in some posts that the problem can be solved by writing the IP address instead of the host name when we use Infoview or whatever we need.
I've done two BO enterprise installations in two different Vitual Machines (made with Virtual PC).
I know that SAP guarantees that BO works fine only on VMware platform with the host name without underscores.
The host on the first Virtual Machine was named correctly, but after the installation I changed it inserting an underscore; after this the Infoview login interface didn't work. So I tried to write the IP address and It worked properly.
Trying to use Designer and Translation Manager I had only to use the IP address instead of the current host name.
The host on the second Virtual Machine was named with an underscore, and after the installation I launched the Infoview login interface that didn't work. Again I tried to write the IP address and It worked properly, but in this case I couldn't launch the Designer and I couldn't import the universe from cms with the Translation Manager!!!
I got this exception opening the Designer:

Thank you for your attention,

Hi Agliano,
changing the Hostname of a Server after BO is installed is a bad idea ! The WAR files for your Tomcat are in some sort "hardcoded".
I would suggest re- deploying your war files on the Tomcat would fix this issue. Check SAP Note - 1308027 for assistance.

• BusinessObjects Enterprise Client Tools XI 3.1 SP3 Connection Error

Hello everybody,
I installed BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 on the server, the server has Windows Server Enterprise 2007.
Locally, in my Laptop, I installed the BusinessObjects Enterprise Client Tools XI 3.1 SP3, but i can´t connect with the CMS using the Webi, or anyother tool to the server. I made everything that is in the administrator, installation and configuration guides, but reading the administrator guide for Query as a WebService I read that if you install the BusinessObjects Enterprise Tools you need a key license to us it, the question will be this.
Do i need a different license than the one what i use to install the BusinessObjects Enterprise on the server to install, connect and use the BusinessObjects Enterprise Client Tools XI 3.1 SP3 on every machine that i install and use for it????
Thanks and regards.

You do not need separate or additional license for the Client Tools.
Most often Client tools cannot connect to server components because :
1. CMS server is not running on the server
2. There is a firewall between Client machine and the server machine and firewall specific settings were not done. (Admin guide - working with firewalls section).

• New monitoring tool for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP2 & higher

Did you know that there is a new monitoring tool available for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1?
It produces reports that summarise the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise system landscape and its configuration, helps out with troubleshooting issues and points out areas of concern.
It also delivers a lot of help with troubleshooting issues via Wily Introscope monitoring dashboards, an 'investigator' and transaction tracing.
You can read more about it in this blog: /people/miles.escow/blog/2010/12/01/remote-support-component

• HP Application LifeCycle Management - URL for use with another Project Management Tool

I'm trying to find a way to get a ALM Requirement URL that will work with other applications. The URL from the COPY URL option (when right-clicking on the requirement) works for e-mails but I can't seem to get it to work for another project management application (Daptiv). We would like to insert the QC Requirement link to another application where the user can access the requirements directly when clicking on the QC hyperlink.
We have HP Application Lifecycle Management Software Version 11.00 Enterprise Edition.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

As Abhishek mentioned we dont need a calc manger or EPMA to migrate classic planning applications. You just need to log into shared services, expand file system and take a file system export, paste the export to the destination environment, now use it as a source and perform an import in the shared services of destination server. It worth having a look at:

• LifeCycle Manager: The kind 'Note' does not exist in the CMS

Hi there,
I'm trying to promote a Crystal Report from one relatively fresh XI 3.1 environment to another fresh XI 3.1 environment (TEST to PROD) using LifeCycle Manager, and for this report, which has no dependencies, I get the following error when I do a Test Promote or actual Promote:
Commit Status=Commit attempted and failed, Promotion Status=Failure : com.businessobjects.lcm.utilities.LCMException: com.businessobjects.sdk.biar.exception.XSDException$UnknownKindException: The kind 'Note' does not exist in the CMS. (FWM 04030)
Has anyone encountered anything similar to this? I can't find any InfoObject that logically relates to the type/kind 'Note'. Perhaps it has to do with discussions?
Thanks,
Allan

Hi,
Can you try promoting it with the security option enabled.
Based on the error condition it seems that the discussion plugin does not exist in the destination system.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
OASIS Enterprise Key Management Infrastructure (EKMI) TC
Name
OASIS Enterprise Key Management Infrastructure (EKMI) TC
Statement of Purpose
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology has been around for more than a
decade, and many companies have adopted it to solve specific problems in the
area of public-key cryptography. Public-key cryptography has been embedded in
some of the most popular tools -- web clients and servers, VPN clients and
servers, mail user agents, office productivity tools and many industry-specific
applications -- and underlies many mission-critical environments today.
Additionally, there are many commercial and open-source implementations of PKI
software products available in the market today. However, many companies across
the world have recognized that PKI by itself, is not a solution.
There is also the perception that most standards in PKI have already been
established by ISO and the PKIX (IETF), and most companies are in
operations-mode with their PKIs -- just using it, and adopting it to other
business uses within their organizations. Consequently, there is not much left
to architect and design in the PKI community.
Simultaneously, there is a new interest on the part of many companies in the
management of symmetric keys used for encrypting sensitive data in their
computing infrastructure. While symmetric keys have been traditionally managed
by applications doing their own encryption and decryption, there is no
architecture or protocol that provides for symmetric key management services
across applications, operating systems, databases, etc. While there are many
industry standards around protocols for the life-cycle management of asymmetric
(or public/private) keys -- PKCS10, PKCS7, CRMF, CMS, etc. -- however, there is
no standard that describes how applications may request similar life-cycle
services for symmetric keys, from a server and how public-key cryptography may
be used to provide such services.
Key management needs to be addressed by enterprises in its entirety -- for both
symmetric and asymmetric keys. While each type of technology will require
specific protocols, controls and management disciplines, there is sufficient
common ground in the discipline justifying the approach to look at
key-management as a whole, rather than in parts. Therefore, this TC will
address the following:
Scope
A) The TC will create use-case(s) that describe how and where
the protocols it intends to create, will be used;
B) The TC will define symmetric key management protocols,
including those for:
1. Requesting a new or existing symmetric key from a server;
2. Requesting policy information from a server related to caching of keys on the
client;
3. Sending a symmetric key to a requestor, based on a request;
4. Sending policy information to a requestor, based on a request;
5. Other protocol pairs as deemed necessary.
C) To ensure cross-implementation interoperability, the TC will create a test
suite (as described under 'Deliverables' below) that will allow different
implementations of this protocol to be certified against the OASIS standard
(when ratified);
D) The TC will provide guidance on how a symmetric key-management infrastructure
may be secured using asymmetric keys, using secure and generally accepted
practices;
E) Where appropriate, and in conjunction with other standards organizations that
focus on disciplines outside the purview of OASIS, the TC will provide input on
how such enterprise key-management infrastructures may be managed, operated and
audited;
F) The TC may conduct other activities that educate users about, and promote,
securing sensitive data with appropriate cryptography, and the use of proper
key-management techniques and disciplines to ensure appropriate protection of
the infrastructure.
List of Deliverables
1. XSchema Definitions (XSD) of the request and response protocols (by August
2007) 2. A Test Suite of conformance clauses and sample transmitted keys and
content that allows for clients and servers to be tested for conformance to the
defined protocol (by December 2007)
3. Documentation that explains the communication protocol (by August 2007)
4. Documentation that provides guidelines for how an EKMI may be built,
operated, secured and audited (by December 2007)
5. Resources that promote enterprise-level key-management: white papers,
seminars, samples, and information for developer and public use. (beginning
August 2007, continuing at least through 2008)
Anticipated Audiences:
Any company or organization that has a need for managing cryptographic keys
across applications, databases, operating systems and devices, yet desires
centralized policy-driven management of all cryptographic keys in the
enterprise. Retail, health-care, government, education, finance - every industry
has a need to protect the confidentiality of sensitive data. The TC's
deliverables will provide an industry standard for protecting sensitive
information across these, and other, industries.
Security services vendors and integrators should be able to fulfill their use
cases with the TC's key management methodologies.
Members of the OASIS PKI TC should be very interested in this new TC, since the
goals of this TC potentially may fulfill some of the goals in the charter of the
PKI TC.
Language:
English
IPR Policy:
Royalty Free on Limited Terms under the OASIS IPR Policy
Additional Non-normative information regarding the start-up of the TC:
a. Identification of similar or applicable work:
The proposers are unaware of any similar work being carried on in this exact
area. However, this TC intends to leverage the products of, and seek liaison
with, a number of other existing projects that may interoperate with or provide
functionality to the EKMI TC's planned outputs, including:
OASIS Web Services Security TC
OASIS Web Services Trust TC
W3C XMLSignature and XMLEncryption protocols and working group
OASIS Digital Signature Services TC
OASIS Public Key Infrastructure TC
OASIS XACML TC (and other methods for providing granular access-control
permissions that may be consumed or enforced by symmetic key management)
b. Anticipated contributions:
StrongAuth, Inc. anticipates providing a draft proposal for the EKMI protocol,
at the inception of the TC. The current draft can be viewed at:
http://www.strongkey.org/resources/documentation/misc/skcl-sks-protocol.html
and a working implementation of this protocol is available at:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/strongkey for interested parties.
c. Proposed working title and acronym for specification:
Symmetric Key Services Markup Language (SKSML), subject to TC's approval or
change.
d. Date, time, and location of the first meeting:
First meeting will be by teleconference at:
Date: January 16, 2007
Time: 10 AM PST, 1PM EST
Call in details: to be posted to TC list
StrongAuth has agreed to host this meeting.
e. Projected meeting schedule:
Subject to TC's approval, we anticipate monthly telephone meetings for the first
year. First version of the protocol to be voted on by Summer 2007. StrongAuth is
willing to assist by arranging for the teleconferences; we anticipate using
readily available free teleconference services.

• Lifecycle Manager SP2

In my Business Objects XI 3.1 SP 2.2 environment I installed Lifecycle Manager SP1, followed by upgrading it to SP2. After installing SP2 the Administrative options menu disappears from teh web interface, it will not allow me to create new jobs and the dropdown that takes you to version control, doesn't have that option.
From the CMC in my folder structure there is a folder called LCM and another called LCM_old, the LCM_old seems to be the one LCM is using.
In the LCM.log file every time I log in I find this error message.
[ERROR] [com.businessobjects.lcm.utilities.LCMLogger] Error in getting Audit Handler. Please refer to the stack trace.
Can anyone help me, is there any more information you need?
Thanks,

• What/Where is the Value Lifecycle Manager (VLM)

What/Where is the Value Lifecycle Manager (VLM)
I was just reviewing an ASUG presentation from Soledad Alvarado Ganzhorn of SAP NetWeaver Product Management at SAP Labs. It describes a value lifecycle manager tool that includes:
Value Discovery content includes: Interview Questions, Pain Points, Best Practices, Solution Enablers, Value Drivers & KPI's, and Data Requests
A Knowledge Management Platform – Retrieve and Enter content
A Highly Flexible and Customizable Business Case Building and Reporting Platform
Used by Value Engineers, Solution Engineers, ISG, Partners and others
Is anyone aware if SAP is using this tool already? Will customers get access to it? This sounds like a replacement for the business case builder which I haven't seen either. It would be nice if customers had access to these sorts of discovery tools. Since we don't utilize SAP consulting, we are often not able to access this content as we initiate new initiatives. It would be nice to have access as it seems like we are internally selling their software for them.

The tool is available. It is at the following URL:
https://sapvalueengineering.com/VLM2/client.page
SAP has nominated select Partners that have access to the tool. You can probably check with the SAP partner relationship manager in your organization to see if you have access to this tool.

• Error: There was a problem logging on to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise

I am trying to use Crystal Reports Enterprise XI 4.0 with BusinessObjects Enterprise 4.0 using a Bex Query on an SAP NetWeaver 7.01 SPS 9 BW system. I have been using the SAP Press book u201CIntegrating SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x with SAP NetWeaveru201D as my guide, attempting to follow it step by step. Please bear with me as I have only started working with this set of products within the last month. (Very new at this and do not have a very good grounding of the way it all works together. Trying to learn as quickly as possible as I am expected to support this set of tools for our developers / users.)
I have been trying to follow along with the book to get everything connected. At this point, I have BOE set up to attach to the SAP NetWeaver BW system. I have created a test Bex Query on the BW system. From within BOE, using CMC, I can configure the Bex Query as an OLAP connection. I have set it up for SSO. I have also exchanged certificates between the BOE and the SAP NetWeaver systems which I believe will allow the exchange of tokens.
I then go into Crystal Reports for Enterprise XI 4.0 on my PC. (I am running Windows 7 64-bit on the PC. I installed the BOE 4.0 suite of client tools except for SAP BO Live Office and SAP BO Analysis for MS Office). I can attach to my BOE system and can browse to see the OLAP connections in the BOE. I then try to select one as the data source for a new report. I then get a pop-up window stating:
Unable to Logon
There was a problem logging on to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise.
Please check your logon credentials and make sure your network is properly configured before trying again. If the problem
persists please contact your Administrator.
I cannot find a log / trace / error file on my PC, the BOE system or the BW system to indicate any additional information as to what the root problem is. Has anyone seen a similar error and might know where I can find more information, how to increase trace levels so that I get some additional information or provide hints as to what the root problem might be?
I am also trying to figure out how the authentication works between the PC, BOE and SAP NetWeaver. If using a token, there has to be consistency with the username (or some value) and I am not certain that is happening. Right now, my BOE sources its UME from the SAP NetWeaver BW system. So its user accounts are in the form SID123/ACCOUNT where SID is the SID of the SAP NetWeaver system and the string u201C123u201D is the client on that SID. When I log into the BOE system from within Crystal Reports, I am using the account in that format whereas the account on the SAP NetWeaver BW system in actuality is only the string ACCOUNT. So is the token stripping the string u201CSID123/u201D from the account name when it is sent so that the accounts match? Or do I have to manually configure some kind of account alias (in the BOE system?) so that the two recognize each other? Or something else?
Any hints or ideas around where I can find additional information or where I have gone wrong, would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you in advance,
Deb Nugent.

Henry,
Many thanks and excellent suggestions. But I am still not able to get this to work and (once again) am stuck.
RE: Server Connections: When I check my server connection, I have not ticked SSL and am using the non-secure server port for my BOE system. When I click on u201CTest connectionu201D, I can successfully log in using my username / password on the SAP NetWeaver BW system. If I tick the SSL box without changing the port, I get the error message u201CFailed to establish a connection. The cause was u201CCannot connect to SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise at this time. Please try again later.u201D If I tick the SSL box and change the port to use the secure server port for the BOE system, I get the same error.
RE: Preferences: I am using the default settings under Preferences -> Network Settings. We do not manually configure proxy settings on our network so I have ticked u201CUse system proxy configurationu201D and under SSL settings, have ticked u201CUse system keystore / trust storeu201D. I have swapped keys between the BOE system and the SAP NetWeaver system but I have not swapped any keys between my PC and the BOE system or the SAP NetWeaver system (which I do not expect to do but am mentioning here in case I am wrong).
RE: BILaunchPad: I do not have any references for BILaunchPad. Is this u201CWeb Intelligence Rich Clientu201D? If so, I tried starting it, it reported an error: u201CAn error occurred at session creation.u201D Details showed u201CSSL mode is being requested but the following argument(s) are not present: passphrase (FWM 01012)u201D I went into the CMC and checked my SAP connections under Authentications. On the tab u201COptionsu201D, there is the section u201CSAP SSO Serviceu201D where I typed in the KeyStore password. When I created the key store file, I only specified a keystore password and did not specify a private key. Originally, I had it set with the private key blank with the correct password on the keystore. I also tried entering the same password as the private keystore and saving it. I verified that the connection services for Web Intelligence had restarted but I still am getting that same message when I try to start the Web Intelligence Rich Client.
At OS level on the BOE server, I logged in as my boe1 account and checked the parameters that can be entered for the PKCS12Tool.jar file that I used to create the ketstore file I had used. There does not appear to be an option for anything other than the keystore password. There is no private key password field listed.
I searched for the FWM 01012 error and found the HTML and PDF help files form SAP explaining errors. However, it only states u201CEnsure that all SSL arguments are presentu201D but gives no details as to what, exactly needs to be checked.
I will be talking with co-workers today to see if any of them can make sense of this (anoterh set of eyes sometimes helps). Any other suggestions about areas to look for addiitonal details / increased traces / logs?
Deb Nugent.

• Solution Manager vs Enterprise Solution Manager

Dear All,
We already have solution manager installed in our SAP System landscape.
But a visiting consultant give a new word to managers about enterprise solution manager with following benefits.
1-If we have enterprise solution manager then SAP AG can access our system and inform us about system health.
2-If we have enterprise solution manager then SAP AG will react on our ticket not on what we send but on the the actual actual condition of system.
3-We can only utilize our support services in a right way if we have enterprise solution manager.
1- Now first where I can check that the installed solution manager is standard or enterprise?
2- The benefit which is listed above is really available in enterprise solution manager?
3- Any tutorial or link defining how to install and configure enterprise solution manager.

• Where to get the BusinessObjects Enterprise SDK - Java Libraries

Hi All,
I have installed the Crystal Report Server XI R2 but where to get the java sdk that I will use in my client j2ee web application?
These are the folders in my CR Server directory.
/BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5
/Business Objects/common/3.5/java/lib
It seems that I will get the jar from this folder but what are those jars?
/Business Objects/common/3.5/java/lib
What are the list of jars that my client web application used?
Basically in doing my POC work I need these library imports
<%@ page import="com.crystaldecisions.sdk.exception.*"%>
<%@ page import="com.crystaldecisions.sdk.framework.*"%>
<%@ page import="com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.infostore.*"%>
<%@ page import="com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.managedreports.*"%>
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
