BusinessObjects Explorer Accelerated

We just installed BWA 7.2 with the BOE 2.0 blade and BO Accelerator 1.0. Also, we are running BW 7.01 SP10 at this time. We installed BOE 4.02 SP9 to use with the accelerators. Is this the accelerated version of BOE or should we be using X.I 3.2? We are also installing BO Enterprise Suite 4.0. The documentation we've read is not very clear on which version is accelerated.

Exploring BWA indexes in Explorer means accelerated. If you index and explore Universes (UNX) or Excel files that is non-accelerated.
In BOE 4.02 Patch 9 CMC -> Applications -> Explorer just enter the connection details to your BWA blade, for example:
com.businessobjects.datadiscovery.dataprovider.trex.host=<BWA HOST NAME or IP>
com.businessobjects.datadiscovery.dataprovider.trex.port=30016
Then restart Explorer servers and log in Explorer  -> Manage Spaces you should see the BWA indexes listed.

  • SDK development for SAP BusinessObjects Explorer Accelerated version

    Hi all,
    in one of our project we need to use the engine of Explorer Accelerated an SDK application.
    Is it possible or does exists sdk libraries for using only the search component of Explorer?
    What we need is something that give to Explorer box our search request and give back to us a result that could be a table/webi report/xml file without using the webinterface itself of Explorer.
    Thanks!

  • BO Explorer Accelerated Version for BWA with BO Enterprise 4.0.2 ????

    Dear all,
    we are currently running a complete BO Enterprise 4.0.2 landscape, including BO Explorer 4 (non accelerated version).
    What we would like to add in addition(!), is an installation of BO Explorer (accelerated version of a dedicated blade) which directly accesses the data in our BWA, but which makes use of the already existing BOE landscape (including CMS, SAP authentication, etc.)
    I checked all documentation on the service.sap.com, etc. and I have to say that I'm a little bit lost about the versions and the naming.
    - There was once a version which was called SAP BO Explorer (blade) 2.0 and in the installation/master guide there was a dedicated part how to connect the new BO Explorer to the BO Enterprise and how to establish a connection between the BO Explorer and the BWA (so exactly what we from my general understanding need to do).
    Unfortunately this guide was always based on the BOE XI3.2 version and NOT on the current 4.0.2 version
    - The successor of SAP BO Explorer (blade) 2.0 is now called SBOP EXPLORER PACKAGE 4.0 (as I can read in service.sap.com), but when I check /instguides for "explorer", I can again read the following:
    SAP BusinessObjects Explorer, accelerated version comprises the following software packages and components:
    SAP BusinessObjects Explorer (blade) 2.0
    SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator 7.2
    SAP BusinessObjects Accelerator (blade) 1.0
    SAP BusinessObjects Data Services
    SAP BusinessObjects Accelerator Index Designer
    SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (optional)
    And now I'm lost. Does it mean that the latest installable blade edition is still SAP BusinessObjects Explorer (blade) 2.0, even when we are running BO Enterprise 4.0.2 ???? If so, is there any major difference between the XI3.2 version from the (blade) 2.0 installation/master guide and version 4.0.2 (except that I do not need the SAP integration stuff anymore)?! Is there an installation guide for BO Enterprise 4.0.2?
    And last but not least, which version is the version which I can find under /swdc
    SBOP EXPLORER ACCELERATED VERSION -> SBOP EXPLORER PACKAGE -> SBOP EXPLORER PACKAGE 4.0
    It seems to me that this is the NON ACCELERATED version - so not the blade edition which is going directly to the BWA...
    OR
    Having the new BO Explorer Version 4 available does not at all require a special blade installation anymore?!? I simply need
    - BWA720 and need to perform the following steps:
    To connect SAP BusinessObjects Explorer with a designated SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator via the CMC administration page:
    1. Stop the Explorer servers.
    2. Logon to the BusinessObjects Enterprise CMC.
    3. Navigate to Manage > Applications.
    4. Right-click Explorer and click Properties.
    5. Within Advanced Configuration: type the host and port values of the designated BWA.
    For example:
    com.businessobjects.datadiscovery.dataprovider.trex.host=<mybwaserver>
    com.businessobjects.datadiscovery.dataprovider.trex.port=3<TREX_instance_number>16
    Who can help me with this?
    Thanks,
      Andreas

    Dear Anbu,
    long time ago since I did the initial configuration.
    When I remember right, there was an additional parameter in one of the *ini files on the Trex Server, but when I searched I was not able to find any additional parameter - so I guess there is none.
    One thing that I remember is, that we had to use the IP-adress on the BO server configuration instead the server name, as otherwiese the BO server was not able to reach the BWA (but his might be due to our internal configuration).

    Andreas

  • Difference Between Explorer and Explorer Accelerated?

    I was wondering if anyone could possibly give me links to documents that outline the differences between SAP Businessobjects Explorer and Businessobjects Explorer Accelerated. Or even just documents that outline their functionality without getting into techical specs too much.
    I have found a few, but they all seem to be too general or specific. I understand enough to get that the Accelerated version has an add-on that allows you to connect to your BWA blades, but are there any other differences?
    Thanks!

    Did you already check this book 'Inside SAP BusinessObjects Explorer' by Ingo Hilgefort?

  • BusinessObjects Explorer The creation of the data source object tree failed

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a new information space in BusinessObjects Explorer 4.0.  When I select the Universe I want to use and click "New" Information Space I get the following error.
    Failed to retrieve the data source details.
    The creation of the data source object tree failed.
    I'm just using a local installation, BI Platform 4.0, Client Tools, and Explorer are all installed on my Windows 7 machine.  It's intended to be a demo environment.
    Any guidance would be appreciated!
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,
    first of all BI4 Enterprise is not supported on Windows 7 and it may not work properly for various reasons.
    But you can give this a try:
    Update the command line parametres of each of the Explorer Services to use a different value for the connection server libraries
    The changes are made to the command line of each of the Explorer services
    - Master
    - Exploration
    - Indexing
    - Search
    Remove the following from the command line parameters of the existing Explorer services
    -connectivity_dir "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0//dataAccess/connectionServer"
    Example of the original Explorer Master server command line parameters:
    -Djava.awt.headless=true -Dosgi.configuration.area=configuration.BI40.ExplorerMasterServer1 -server -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Dosgi.clean=true -Xmx1g -jar plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.101.R34x_v20081125.jar -loggingPath "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/logging/" -connectivity_dir "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0//dataAccess/connectionServer" -serverkind explorerMaster
    And update the server command line parameters with the following:
    "-Dbusinessobjects.connectivity.directory=C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0//dataAccess/connectionServer"
    Example of an updated Explorer Master server command line parameters:
    -Djava.awt.headless=true -Dosgi.configuration.area=configuration.BI40.ExplorerMasterServer -server -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -Dosgi.clean=true -Xmx1g -jar plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.101.R34x_v20081125.jar -loggingPath "C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/logging/" -Dbusinessobjects.connectivity.directory="C:/Program Files (x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0//dataAccess/connectionServer" -serverkind explorerMaster

    1. SAP BusinessObjects Explorer的前身就是BO自己的Polestar,只是改了个名字而已
    2. Explorer主要是和BW、BIA结合,能够方便快速的做查询和分析,而不需要做报表

  • Difference between Business Objects Explorer and Polestar

    Hi all,
    can anyone help me out with the main differences between Business Objects Explorer and Polestar.
    thanks & regards
    immanuel.

    Explorer is the new product name for Polestar.  There have been a few versions of Explorer released since it was called Polestar, but you can find the latest 'whats new' doc here which lists the latest additions:
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexplXI32/en/exp32_whats-new_en.pdf
    For one, Explorer now comes in two editions... Standard and Accelerated.  The Explorer Standard edition allows reporting off of Universes, just as the original Polestar product did.  Explorer Accelerated allows reporting off of SAP BWA indexes as well as Business Objects universes.  Both versions now allow uploading of excel files to report off of.  You can export an Information Space to a Webi doc or Excel file.  Users can now save favorite links to an Information Space.  Sorting has been improved as well as graphing functions and overall display.  You'll have to install the latest build of Explorer - "Explorer 3.2 SP1" and compare.  I don't know of a document or matrix that compares Polestar to Explorer.  The two are basically the same product with a number of enhancements added to the Explorer line.

  • Few questions about "city explorer"

    - I noticed it can tell me where the metro is, but could nokia maps + city explorer tell me what line should i take in the metro and which station i should go out?
    - Does it all require data transfering while i'm walking, or can i donwload it all before, where i have wifi? (like nokia map-loader)
    - same question about the guides...
    Thank's!

    You can find most of the answers here - or to links to the answers -
    http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/boexplXI32/en/exp_acc_admin_en.pdf
    I haven't used the Explorer accelerated for a long time, but as far as I remember in rsddstat i think you can identify the explorer usage from the user id, but not sure - try and see.
    You can also run all your BIA indexes at the same time if you want to, the algorithm takes care of the table locks and switch to other index
    Querysnap shot index is a SNAPSHOT of the data at the time of the index - it will never change unless you re-run the query and index it. Regular BWA indexes gets updated when you load data to underlying cubes and run BWA rollups/change runs. The querysnap shot data will not change. I like them if my query output miliions of lines - such as ZCUSTOMER. With query snapshot, you can put all of them to explorer for customer segmentation etc purposes
    Cheers

  • Using BusinessObjects Tools without a Universe

    I'm in the process of evaluating the BI Landscape where we have  SAP BW & Queries as the 'back-end' and BusinessObjects Tools as the 'frontend'. (Ignore BeX Analyser).
    Reading up, it seems that Crystal Reports, Xcelsius and BusinessObjects Explorer do NOT requrie a Universe in place (Only WebI does). Is that correct? Are SAP moving away from having a Universe to suppot the BusinessObjects Tools?

    Crystal Reports and XCelsius offer direct access to BEx queries (For Xcelsius you have to have an SAP BW 7 with at least EHP1 and SPS5 installed)
    BO Explorer can be used on top of the BW Accelerator otherwise you will need universes to access SAP data.
    In the next release the semantic layer was renamed but will remain and in fact it will be possible to use it to access SAP BW data also from CR (In the current version you CANNOT use universes on SAP BW sources from within CR).

  • Business Objects Explorer  on bex query on HANA

    Hi BI/BW/BO experts
    if we implement BW on HANA, and run bex queries.
    What are the pros and epecially the cons for running BO explorer.
    Can Explorer connect to a bex query?
    What about iput variables ?
    Can the bex query connect to multiproviders?
    Does it run on IOS ?
    Does it run on Android ?
    Hope for a clarifying answer.
    (These things changes so fast)
    very best regards
    Ingrid

    Hi Ingrid,
    We can create information space over BWA and here is the steps;-
    Login to BW system from SAP GUI.
    Run T-code RSDDB.
    Click Query as InfoProvider button.
    Select one BEx query and click Release Query as InfoProvider menu.
    Click Create button.
    Click Activate and Fill BWA Index and select Immediate > Save.
    Run T-code /nRSDDTPS. Find the BEx query.
    Right click it and select Create... menu.
    Click Yes from prompted dialog.
    Enter User name and select "0BI_ALL" as BW Authoriz.
    Click Activate menu and select Immediate > Save.
    Run T-code /nTrexAdmin.
    Select Program > Get BIA Rfc Destination and click Execute button.
    =>You can find hostname of BWA system and trex instance number in Location field.
    =>It is generally formated as "<host>:3<instance number>##".
    Use the two information to enable Business Warehouse Accelerator to BusinessObjects Explorer by referring KBA 1618815.
    Login to Explorer 4.0 and click Manage Spaces menu.
    Find the BEx query and click New button.
    You can connect bex query to multiprovider through JCO connection from IDT.
    Hope this helps
    Regards,
    Pranay

    Hi,
    In both the diagrams, the following components are within the blade landscape.
    u2022 SBOP Explorer (SAP BusinessObjects Explorer XI 3.2)
    u2022 SBOP Enterprise (SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP2)
    u2022 SBOP Integration for SAP Solutions (SAP BusinessObjects Integration XI 3.1 SP2 for SAP Solutions)
    u2022 SBOP Data Services Designer (installed via BO Data Services installation)
    u2022 Index Designer (SAP BusinessObjects Accelerator index designer; installed via the SAP Business
    Objects Data Services installation)
    u2022 BW Accelerator (SAP NetWeaver BW Accelerator 7.20)
    the only diference being the first diagram shows the landscape whereas the second one details the Cotrol and Data folw inside and outsied the blade.
    Hope this clarifies.

  • Integartion of Business objects explorer with ABAP ALV

    Hello all,
    We have a requirement to integrate one of our applications with business objects explorer. The complete details is as listed below:
    1. Our application basically collects feedback provided by users and then displays an ALV with all the feedback ratings received for a topic.
    2. It summarizes to the user the average rating received, number of 1star ratings , 2 star ratings etc.,
    3. Instead of showing this in the ALV format we have requirement where we want to upload this data into the Business Objects explorer so that the user has a more user-friendly and intutive display of the same data rather than in a ALV.
    Any inputs on how we can trigger business objects explorer from ABAP code and pass the data in the internal table used for ALV display to it would be very helpful.
    Warm Regards,
    Naveen M

    HI Naveen,
    there has been a demo of this by Enterprise Geeks during TechED 2009 and the code is posted on their website.
    the other option is to export the data to Excel and then use BusinessObjects Explorer in the cloud for example.

  • Native JDBC connection from BO Explorer to HANA

    Hello.
    Could you please give me the step-by-step instructions to set up the native HANA JDBC connection from BO Explorer?
    I followed the steps in P.12-13 of 'SAP BusinessObjects Explorer Administrator's Guide for BO BI 4.0 SP02', but I could not see the "SAP High-Performance Analytic Appliance (SAP HANA) 1.0" in 'Manage Spaces' in BO Explorer.
    I did as follows:
    1. Log on to the BusinessObjects Enterprise CMC as Administrator.
    2. Click "Servers".
    3. Expand "Service Categories", right-click on "Explorer Services", then select 'Stop Server'.
    4. Return to CMC's home screen, and click "Applications".
    5. Right-click "Explorer", and select "Properties".
    6. Within "Advanced Configuration", set the following parameters, and save them.
    newdb.system.alias = NEWDBHANA
    newdb.url = jdbc:sap://HANA_ADDRESS:30015
    newdb.authentication.mode = ConfiguredIdentity
    newdb.user = system
    newdb.password = manager
    newdb.connections.enabled = true
    7. Return to CMC's home screen, and click "Users and Groups".
    8. Click "User List", right-click on "Administrator", and select "Properties".
    9. Check "Enable Database Credentials", and enter Windows' administrator and its password, and save them.
    10. Return to CMC's home screen, and click "Servers".
    11. Expand "Service Categories", right-click on "Explorer Services", then select 'Start Server'.
    12. Log on to the BO Explorer as Administrator.
    13. Click "Manage Spaces".
    14. "SAP High-Performance Analytic Appliance (SAP HANA) 1.0"  is not shown in "Sources".
    Thank you very much,
