Busy on port 631 to Brother HL 5170DN

I've been unable lately to print through Airport to my HL5170DN Brother laser. I'm going through a Belkin G wireless router. Each attempt to print brings up the "port 631 currently busy" error. Have tried erasing the printer list ( Control click on the printer name in setup ) and adding the printer again ( IP ) but no luck. When adding a new printer in the airport mode Bonjour momentarily "finds" the printer, then loses it. The printer has a permanent lease on the ip assigned by the router, and I have no problem if I connect to the router by ethernet and add the printer through bonjour. Any thoughts appreciated.

Port 631 is used by IPP. As a test you could try creating a network printer queue using one of the other IP protocols, such as LPD or HP Jetdirect-Socket.

  • IPP - Can't get it to work on port 631

So I'm trying to enable IPP printing so that various anonymous guests on our wireless network can use one of the office printers that we currently have.  Server is 2008 R2, and most printers are HPs.  Regular printing works fine.
I've got IPP working over port 80 on both Win7 and OSX Clients.  This was done via connecting to <a href="http:///printers/<printername>/.printer">http://<IPaddress>/printers/<printername>/.printer
Windows was done via the add printer wizard and entering this into the shared printer by name.
OSX was done via using the "advanced" option and then manually selecting the http IIP protocol.
So my question is - how do I get it to work over the standard port of 631?  This is mainly so that macs don't need the extra steps, I wish I could just use the "IPP" dialogue box by default.  Also, most windows instructions state to use
":631" as part of the IP string, so I'm curious on why it doesn't work.
I couldn't find any configuration requirements, other than adding the role to the server.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
I took a look at the links, but they weren't helpful in my situations.
I know the printers already work normally.  I also know they work via IPP over port 80, they just don't want to work with a manual configuration over the normal port of 631.
    It's mind boggling to me...
If it helps at all, all of the printers shared are connected via TCP/IP port already... but that shouldn't make a difference?

  • Brother HL-5170DN

My faithful Brother 5170DN is giving me trouble on the MacBook Pro. I get multiple pages of:
    ERROR NAME;
    syntaxerror
    COMMAND;
    OPERAND STACK;
    30976
The printer is on the network and works fine with the iMac, also running Tiger 10.4.6.
    Many thanks!
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The problem is that brother printers use BR-script and not real PostScript. The CUPs drivers send raw postscript through to any printer they think is a postscript printer in this printer is not. Change the printer driver to one that is listed as using BR-Script. Make sure you set the correct number of input trays and deselect printer harddrives etc. Your HL-5170DN should then work perfectly.

  • Changing E-Business Suite Ports

    Dears,
I want to change the my instance port number for the DB 1524 and application 8003 to 1528,8007 respectively in R12. If i run the adcfgclone.pl for both DB & APP then the autconfig with the new port numbers plus the listener & tns files will change these prots successfully.

    Hi Helios,
We are currently using e-Business Suite 12.1.1 and would like to change the hostname of the Application. Can you please advise if the Note you provided is also applicable? Reason I ask is because firstly, the note only applies to v11.5.x and secondly, on the following thread it points to another article for 12.1.1. The problem is that the note for 12.1.1 is not accessible:

  • Log Check please for Hack? port 631 listen

    Hello.
Can you please take a look at my logs on terminal and console for a possible hack?

  • Open port issues with Direct Print functionality

Hi, I have been fighting with HP call support about the Photosmart 7525 printer.
Originally I setup and had performed all the functions to enable both web support and WIFI.
Within an hour the printer would not respond to wireless communication, though it had its wireless indecator showing it was connected.
I was told by HP support that the issue will be resolved in March, as there will be a firmware update to fix the issue.
Now that I had the printer install the new firmware I still get the issue.
Though I found through some sniffing, that there are a number of ports enabled and open that are over and beyond print requirements.
Funny thing I can send my printer into instant lockup with all lights flashing with a simple UDP ping sniff. I would think I can do this with other new HP printers using Eprint functions. I will find HP web based printers that are open for public printing and test my theory that HP Eprinters are open to hacking and denyal of service attempts.  My Hp print app on andriod list three in my area, and one is at my local Walmart. This would be cool to find this, as I am usually not the first to point such matters out.
I assume some are for Apple devices to print.
    Here is my sniffing report:

OK now I am able to run a full scan on TCP ports without causing a lock up of the printer.
I found that having the printer connect to a router that has been setup to use channel 5, 6 or 7 will cause port scanning issues with the printer.
It is obvious that there are 18 ports that are seen as open, whether they are used or not. Two of which are active but have no service connected to them. Some are just dead like port 25, but over half are active enough to recieve data and lock network connectivity within the printer.
As the firmware states some other laser jets may be affected depending on how the configuration can be set.
I moved my routers channel to channel 1 as it is the only other option I have in a highly congested location. It is not as good as channel 6, but the printer seems to have channel 6 locked in for direct printing.
Here is the latest full scan with UDP enabled, it is the furthest and most complete scan I am able to complete, with UDP ports enabled. The TCP port scan has a bit more and I have placed a simple list below the information given here:

  • Port Forwarding To Two Macs with Port 22 limitations

This is another port forwarding/port 22 issue and I've look around and not seen an answer to my specific problem.  I work for a business that has an in-house ad system that runs on a Mac Mini.  I have been accessing that Mac Mini remotely because we set up port forwarding through the Linksys rounter that is at the business using port 22.  This is the only port that works for this connection to the mini and the software.
We are now adding a second Mac Mini to send the ads to a different set of monitors.  I can't set up port forward to the new mini on the same port so I don't know how to connect to this mini remotely.  Is there a way to get into the first mini through port 22 and then somehow communite to the second one through the first?  Is there another way to do port forwarding...or have the linksys router switch from one mini to the other when a request comes in?  There will only be one remote computer trying to reach either Mac Mini so there will never be simultaneous traffic coming in.  Any help would be appreciated!
The linksys router is critical to the business becasue a host of other devices are forwarded though it as well.
    Thank you.

Having set up my IP camera with HH4 successfully, I've now got another one and would like to set it up as well. I gave it a unique, static IP address which my router can see fine. When I try to set up port forwarding, I get a message saying:
"The game or application you’ve selected conflicts with an application (IP Cam 1) you’ve already assigned to another device. Please remove the other application or select the same device."
I am not being given the option to select the same device.
I'm now wondering if port forwarding to two identical devices actually works in principle with HH4? Has anyone else done this?
If in the Home Hub 4 A you go to
    Advanced Settings
    Firewall
    Port Fowarding
    Manage Games and Applications
    You get the following statement:
"Each game or application can be assigned to only one device on your home network"
I would think that the only way round your problem is to have each Camera running a different application or the same application with a different name.
Does the remote browser app need to know the application name  or just the device name ?
If you think about how Port Forwarding needs to function you need a way whereby  the remote user needs to be able to tell the Hub what Camera to talk to.

  • Trouble setting up a Brother HL-2030 laser printer with CUPS

    Hi,
I have a Brother HL-2030 laser printer that I've already setup successfully at work, on various distributions: CentOS, Debian and Slackware. I also have this printer at home, so I tried to set it up on my brandnew Arch install. I have a base system with X11 and XFCE desktop environment. To setup CUPS on Arch, I've followed the according CUPS Wiki entries on archlinux.org and archlinux.de.
Here's the packages I installed to have CUPS:
    - cups
    - ghostscript
    - a2ps
    - gutenprint
    - foomatic-db
    - foomatic-db-engine
    - foomatic-db-ppd
    - foomatic-filters
I edited /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, and here's what I changed to the default configuration:
    # Only listen for connections from the local machine.
    Listen localhost:631
    Listen 192.168.1.2
    # Restrict access to the server...
    # By default only localhost connections are possible
    <Location />
    Order allow,deny
    Allow localhost
    Allow 192.168.1.*
    </Location>
    # Restrict access to the admin pages...
    <Location /admin>
    # Encryption disabled by default
    #Encryption Required
    Order allow,deny
    Allow localhost
    Allow 192.168.1.*
    </Location>
I started the CUPS daemon, connected to the web interface at http://localhost:631 and setup my printer with the Gutenprint drivers for HL-2060 (as recommended). Then I defined the printer as default.
Here's the output of lpstat -t in a Terminal, which shows the printer OK:
    [root@archtest2:/etc/cups] # lpstat -t
    l'ordonnanceur tourne
destination par défaut du système : BrotherHL2030
    périphérique pour BrotherHL2030 : usb://Brother/HL-2030%20series
BrotherHL2030 accepte les requêtes depuis le ven 11 avr 2008 08:04:04 CEST
But when I try to print the CUPS test page, I get... nothing. The printer shortly begins to hum, but doesn't print.
Next step, I set the LogLevel in cupsd.conf to being more verbose. Here's the output of /var/log/cups/error_log when I try in vain to print a test page:

    Any suggestions?

my brother hl-1430 shows similar symptoms. should i install the brother drivers for this model too? it worked a few weeks ago... but cups tend to break stuff... constantly. i had this printer working for years, then it wouldn't work for about a year (on gentoo), then i switched to arch where it worked with kde and now it stopped working again. i'm really wondering what those guys are doing over there.

  • Skype for Business to land line

    Hi,
Here is a quick question. I understand I can call USA/Canada land lines for free via Skype consumer, but how does it work using Skype for business? Are those calls also free? where can I find rates for other countries?
    cheers

    Just to add to this:
If it's just the UI you can also set this through Set-CsClientPolicy.
    Set-CsClientPolicy -Identity Global -EnableSkypeUI $false
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/dn954919.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396
However, using this method, some things are still Skype branded (i.e the meeting add-in in Outlook will say "New Skype Meeting") but the UI will now be back at Lync 2013.

  • Business one - how is the prospects for a MBA fresher

I am very new to business one and I need some information regarding its training and prospects. One of my friend has graduated (MBA) and trying to get into SAP. Since he is fresher he is not able to undergo any major SAP module. The training center is recommending him to underto business one and jump to other modules after he gets his experience. In this circumstance (a fresher trying to learn SAP and become BSA) is Business one an apt module for him? Can he later jump to a major module? How easy difficult will it be for him?
    Please give your valuable suggestions.
    Thanks,
    Deepak

Hello Deepak - I can provide some input from some experience both as a user and as an implementation specialist.
Most folks think that the R3 world is the best place to start due to the larger number of opportunities and the ability to specialize very quickly in a very thin and focused module (for example, HR in R3).  IF, and that is a big IF, a person wants to be locked into a very thin and specialized module, then going to the R3 world is great.
However, if a person likes to work with the entire range of business operations then All In One, Business by Design, and Business One are the avenues to go.  Although there are differences between the R3 world and these other packages, the truth of the matter is that it is much easier to go from these other packages into R3, than vice-versa.  Why?  Because with the other packages, you are forced to understand what is going on throughout the entire system and the entire business process.  I have seen over and over again where an experienced and seasoned R3 person has tried to work in one of the "all-encompassing" packages and drops from senior to junior in the process because they know one distinct area and now they need to know everything (which most do not).
A lot of people refer to SAP Business One as the "little brother" to R3 (and sometimes even insinuate that SAP B1 is not that tough), but you tell me - which is harder to know in an expert fashion - one single piece of the business or the entire process which a business goes through?  I have been on both sides of the fence and, believe me, knowing what to do functionally and technically for the entire process is a much larger effort and requires a special kind of person.
You hear many horror stories about the R3 implementations which take years to do, millions of dollars, and an army of consultants.  Why is that?  Because each consultant knows his/her piece and mis-communication and finger pointing are farily easy to do.  Not quite possible when you have only one or two consultants there to do the entire SAP B1 implementation; it goes quickly and the responsibility is squarely set upon the shoulders of those one or two consultants.
SAP is currently making a big push in SAP Business by Design (SAP ByD) in the upcoming months and have a variety of Webinars and are creating some good documentation since it is a newer SAP release.  The SAP ByD field is wide open for anyone because there are few consultants who can claim experience (which makes it good and bad, depending upon how you see it).
So the bottom line question comes to this;  does your friend want to be part of the army in R3 and learn a specific area of business or does the person like to work as the hedge-pin of success and responsibility in a broad and entire business process?  Finding a great and all-around SAP B1er is like finding a jewel - I have had the pleasure of working with SAP B1 for the past six years and having someone on the team who is both knowledgable and able to get things done is a great asset...the SAP B1 implementation is both tough but very rewarding...
Good luck for your friend who is starting out...
    Regards - Zal

  • How to create routed port in Cisco SF-300 Switch

I am trying to create routed ports in SF 300 small business 8 port switch.
    I have 3 different LAN say 192.168.1.0/24, 192.168.2.0/24 and 192.168.3.0/24
I have 3 unmanaged linsys switch where I have connected all these computers.
Now what I have to do is to create routed ports in SF300 and route this networks properly.
Can anybody help me on this? Thanks in advance.

    Dear Shereef,
Thank you for reaching Small Business Support Community.
In Layer 3 system mode, the device can have multiple IP addresses. Each IP address can be assigned to specified ports, LAGs, or VLANs. Operating in Layer 3 mode, the device routes traffic between the directly attached IP subnets configured on the device. In addition, you can manually define default routes.
Configuring the device to work in Layer 3 mode is performed in the Administration >System Settings page.
To define IP addresses on the ports:
IP Configuration > IPv4 Management and Interfaces > IPv4 Interface
To define an IP static route:
Click IP Configuration > IPv4 Management and Interfaces > IPv4 Routes
    Just in case you can check on the admin guide, chapter 16 for a more detailed step by step description;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/csbms/sf30x_sg30x/administration_guide/78-19308-01.pdf
I hope you find this information useful and please do not hesitate to reach me back if there is any further assistance I may help you with.

  • Brother Printing Issues. HL-4040CN Poor color printing quality!

Ok Gang... I'd like to get a problem fixed that I've been living with for over a year now. I posted this back almost a year ago and have been so busy.
I have a Brother HL-4040CN laser printer that printed perfectly when I bought it. About 4-6 months after that the colors started printing faded. I thought it was due to the fact that I had moved and had messed something up when moving. But here's the rub... When I print out the DEMO file that is on the printer, it prints beautiful. But when I print out from my mac which is hooked up via Ethernet, the colors print faded. I also put a simple PDF on a flash drive and printed straight through the printer and it was fine. So I'm at a loss. I am including the link from where I inquired last time and what I had already tried. I am also contacting Brother, but the last time I talked to them, they suggested that it was a software issue since it printed the demo fine.
Here is the link from the other forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2172633&tstart=0
Any other ideas I can try would be appreciated.

When I print out the DEMO file that is on the printer, it prints beautiful.
That's the key to knowing it is not a hardware issue.
This is clearly a software issue. Either the drivers have become outdated, or the setting in the page setup is not right for the source in question, or the source in question is not a high enough resolution.
I also put a simple PDF on a flash drive and printed straight through the printer and it was fine.
Now am I to assume that if you printed the same PDF from the computer, it doesn't print fine?

  • IPP printing long delay

I'm running Mac OS X Server 10.5.1 on a mac mini "server" (2GHz, 2 GB RAM).
Everything is working fine so far (AFP, DHCP, DNS, Firewall, NAT, Open Directory).
The only problem is with the Print service :
I've made a queue for our network laser printer (Brother HL-5250DN) on the server and share it through IPP.
I've then installed the printer in my computer (MacBook 10.5.1) and try to print.
It took me about 4-5 minutes, to see the page printed out, the printing box was stuck with the message : Connecting to myserver.local port 631 for a long time.
If i installed directly the printer to my computer it prints instantaneously.
There's a similar topic about this issue but it's now archived :
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1226866
Did you get IPP printing working fine with your server ?
    Thx.

I'm a brand new new mac user. Having the same trouble to print on my brother MFC 8460N.
When I try to print it gives me a message of connecting to ip address on port 631 and that the network host is busy.
Thought mac would be easy. Setting this up on my XP was a breeze.
