But I DO have Quartz Extreme
I upgraded to 06 because of the new features in iMoive and iPhoto. No where on the package did it state that Quartz Extreme was required. So after attempting a couple of times to apply a theme I looked into it and discovered the requirement.
Then I checked my system. I have 2 cards, 1 has QE and one does not. I read that even if you have one that does, the one that does not will keep themes from working. So I removed the one that did not...and...still no worky.
Here's what it says under Graphics/Displays in Profiler
<pre>

Did you get that last line? "No display connected?" Then how they hey am I seeing what's on screen?
OK, I really don't care if it thinks one is connected or not, I just want this to work!

KajuRob,
The ATI 9000 Pro can support two displays.
At the moment, it appears you only have a Rosewill 9111E display attached.
You graphics card does not support Core Image and I think that may be part of your problem with themes as they leverage that technology.

New Nehalem XServe doesn't have Quartz Extreme?
I have a new Nehalem with 2x 2.93GHz Quad-Core (16 cores total) with the standard NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 256MB Graphics card. For some reason Final Cut Server 1.1.1 and now 1.5 doesn't believe this server has Quartz Extreme and refuses to install. For that matter, Compressor also refuses to open for the same reason.
What I have to do is go to a previous generation Xserve, do the install on the hard drive, then move that hard drive back to the Nehalem. So other than Compressor not opening, the Xserve is behaving normally with Final Cut Server near as I can tell.
Any ideas what's up with this Xserve? I've reduced the display to as low as 800x600 with no change.
thanks. You need to have a display connected for it to register that it is Quartz Extreme capabilities. Get a displayport to VGA or DVI adapator and hook up a monitor. With the previous intel boxes with the mini-dvi connector it was enough to just have the the dongle that came with the server plugged in at startup to get it to register Quartz Extreme. I am not sure if plugging in the display port adaptor with nothing else on the other end will work as all my installs and servers as of late have all had KVM switches. But the concept is still the same. The video card has to see something on the other end before it registers.

Trashed my prefs and now have Quartz extreme support missing
Idiotic me trashed my prefs and didn't open FCP before emptying the trash and now get the Quartz Extreme missing message. Do I have to re-install Final Cut Studio or can I download the missing software from Apple or ?? What's the best method?
thanksHappy you solved the problem!
Next time you can use FCP Rescue to delete and backup your preferences. You can restore them if you need that way.

Quartz Extreme without display
I'm using an app that needs Quartz Extreme to be enabled to work correctly
but I manage my macmini remotely without a display.
I
s there a way to have Quartz Extreme enabled even if without a display??The detection of presence or absence of a display happens at a very low level in the Mac architecture. As far as I know there is no way to manipulate files in OS X to trick the Mac into thinking a display is present. But there are ways around this.
One method would be to purchase an item like Gefen's DVI Detective. It will make the mini think a display is present. But it is not cheap.
Another method that I believe works is to get a bare VGA connector and solder termination resistors between the Vsync pin and ground pin and also the Hsync pin and ground pin. Also, from RGB to ground pins. The Mac will sense these terminations and think a display is attached when this VGA connector is attached through the DVI/VGA adapter. -
Hi,
I just bought a brand new mac pro (quad core with Nvidia graphics card) and also a brand new copy of logic studio 9. When i click on the installation icon it says i dont have 'quartz extreme' and can not install logic?! It did not mention any of this on the system requirements on the package. any idea of what to do?
cheersthanks for the response guys.. I ended up fixing the problem late last night.. I do have the latest version of OSX and i still dont know why that error message came up.
however, what i did do, i went to the system preferences and changed the resolution, and then changed it back to the default resolution and it worked no problem. then i t took me like 3 hours to install the 456 DVDs for logic LOL.. -
Does the new MacBook have Quartz Extreme? I don't see anything specific in the specs or prose, and a recent Tech Note said that you have to have QE in order to use iMovie HD. The article listed supported graphics cards, and did NOT mention the Intel "integrated" adapter.

Help! Where is Quartz Extreme support on my MBP 17"?
Hi,
Just recently upgraded 10.5.8 to 10.6 and than updated over the internet to 10.6.1 The upgrading/updating process was smooth and fast lake a charm. Only one thing I noticed there is no more transparent menu bar in the system. I checked the box in the pref-desktop - doesn't help. Rebooted few times. Nothing. Even profile says that I don't have Quartz Extreme any more.
I had it before and it was working fine. What happened with my video card?
Please Help.

"Motion requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card"
Today, I opened Motion after 3 weeks away from my computer. In mid-December, it worked fine. Today, Motion would not start, instead popping up a dialog box saying "Motion requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Hmm. Nothing changed except maybe a Software Update over the past 3 weeks. After a few panicky minutes, I realized it was worth restarting the machine, and that fixed it.
Why did it happen? Probably because, before I left for a holiday, I unplugged my Cinema LED monitors (to save energy costs). When I returned to the machine today, plugged in their power cables and started working.
Somehow, Motion was triggered to protest that I didn't have the right display hardware, but, thankfully, a restart fixed the problem. Thanks for sharing...

I just updated my RAM (replaced the two 2 gig cards with two Corsair 8 gig cards) and I keep getting a crash report. I have a 21.5 Inch mid 2010 imac. I also am experiencing slow load times with Photoshop and when I try to open Final Cut it says that quartz extreme is not compatible and that I have no VRAM even though I do.

The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

Details: On my MacBook Pro, I have MacOS X 10.6.8, a 2.26 GHz IntelCore Duo processor with 4 GB 1067 MHz DOR 3 Memory.
I have iMovie Version 9.0.4, which I apparently updated inJuly. I regularly used iMovie, and last used it about 3 weeks ago. However, Today, when I try to get into iMovie, I get thefollowing message:
“Quartz extreme Required iMovie requires agraphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does ntosupport Quartz Extreme.”
So, I cannot get into my iMovie. I know the “Quartz Extreme” message ismistaken. WHAT DO I DO?I would recommend that you turn off and restart your Mac. That should clear it up.

I have just downloaded a copy of Photoshop and Adobe Bridge CS4 onto a second laptop I recently purchased. However the font size of the menu bar/tool bars is extremely small. My other laptop also has a copy of CS4 but it does not have the extremely small font size. Could you please tell me how to increase the font size in the menu/tool bars?
You can't. Any version before Creative Cloud does not support high-DPI displays and that is just that. If you cannot adjust the system's screen resolution and so on, then there is nothing you can do.

Final cut pro requires you to have a quartz extreme graphics card
When I open Final Cut Pro, it says final cut pro requires you to have a quartz extreme graphics card. However, I have used the same thing for over a year already without any problems! Please help!
It's an iMac 27inch quad core late 2009I bet you used Software update to download a few items recently (including a recent system update), and have not yet restarted your Mac. To confirm this, launch software update, and follow the instructions. Once you restart and the install completes, relaunch FCP, and you'll probably be good.
(I just did that to myself the other day).
Hope it helps! -
I have airport extreme and just purchased a D-Link DCS-932L home network camera. D-Link says I need UpNp but the extreme doesn't support this. Can I use port mapping? if so anyone know how to set that up? thanks
Since the D-Link DCS-932L is accessible on the local network via a web browser, you should be able to access this camera from the Internet if your router has a publically accessible Public IP address. If your ISP provides you with a dynamic Public IP address, you may want to use a DDNS service to make it easier for you to locate your camera whenever your ISP changes your IP address.
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn).
Select Manual Setup.
Verify that Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address is selected on the Internet > Internet Connection tab.
Select Advanced, and then, select the Port Mapping tab.
Click the plus sign to add a new port mapping.
For Service, leave the default; this will change to "Custom" once you start entering port values.
In the Public UDP Port(s) and Public TCP Port(s) boxes, type in a 4-digit port number (e.g., 8888) that you choose. In the Private IP Address box, type the internal IP address of your camera. In the Private UDP Port(s) and Private TCP Port(s) boxes, enter the appropriate port values that should have been provided to you by the camera manufacturer. Click Continue.
In the Description box, type a descriptive name like "Internet Camera Access," and then, click Done.
Click on Update.
To connect to the shared Camera from a remote location using a Mac or PC:
Start your favorite web browser.
Enter either your Public IP address or DDNS-provided Domain Name, followed by a colon and the Public port number that you choose in step 7 of the previous procedure. For example: http://123.123.123.123:8888 or http://www.mydtdnsdomainname.com:8888 -
I have Airport Extreme as the base unit and an Express unit in a room separated by a brick wall to improve signal. Express shows a green light indicating signal but my iPad does not perform well. How can I improve other than hardwire ethernet connection?
Other suggestions, and more info about the nature of the problem, may be in this Apple tech note.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365
For example, you might find that the brick wall is not the only problem. There may be other devices pumping out enough wireless interference to be making things even worse.
I agree with Bob Timmons that Ethernet is best and most reliable. And that powerline (which I use) is easier and potentially faster than wireless...but only if your power lines do not have electrical devices plugged in which produce electrical noise on the line. Powerline will be slower than Gigabit Ethernet.
Ethernet cable is the only way to ensure that the signal goes directly there in a shielded way for a clear fast signal. Wireless and powerline are much slower because of all the other things the signal has to fight past to get to the other device.
