Button active area

So I've made my "button group" in photoshop. But I don't want the images in that group to govern the boundaries of the clickable button. Is there a way to map only a part of that group to be clickable?
Thanks!

It could be, but then it would no longer be a button highlight - just a plain graphical layer, always visible. In DVD menus, highlights are attributes of buttons only, so your button subpicture layer must be within a button layer set/group.
It is possible to give the illusion of what you are requesting by using multiple linked menus from buttons that are set to Auto-Activate. But anything more than a few buttons will be a lot of work to set up, and will not work as expected in a software DVD player if you mouse over the button - the user will have to click the button to go to the next menu to see the "highlight".
p.s. : Button rectangles cannot overlap in a menu. If your design is such that this is what you want, you will have to do the workaround I mention above, or abandon your design. Personally, I prefer working within the limitations of the format and would therefore choose the latter. You'll find that most Hollywood DVDs also work within the limitations of the format.

  • Trophy:Back button activation area not as wide?

i dont know if its supposed to be designed this way but with my back button i have to push the screen/button about 1mm from the left side of that arrow. but with the search button i can push/activate from the area about 3mm on the right of the image. testing it from the sides of the screen it seems like the search button has a wider activation area. is yours like that too?

today i tried the phones in two of my local vzw stores and the area you have to press is similar to my phone. the area you need to push the back button is farther from the left compared to the right with the search button. i wont be able to get a replacement for my current trophy yet. (gotta call #611 later)(for that high pitch tone when the screen is on (i got a post about my issue in the forums))

Use a polygon hotspot on top of the button slice to create
    the active area.

  • Button active area does not match Photoshop layer size

I have created several text-only buttons for a menu using Photoshop. When I reveal the active area in Encore, usually the bounding box for the active area is correct and goes right around the text, but for several of the buttons, the bounding box is way wider than the text. There is a simple graphical highlight that is also part of each layer group, but the bounding box is way larger than where that appears. There is nothing in any layer in the button group that accounts for the extreme width of the bounding box for the button in Encore. Any ideas?
I have deleted the offending button groups and copied one that didn't have the problem, only to have the same extra-large bounding-box appear. Quite strange.

All right, I finally got around to looking at this again, and, as expected (by me, even) there was a stray pixel or something in the highlight layer. I did a ⌘-T to get a transform bounding box in PS, and saw that for the highlight layer, it went way off to the left. Weird. So I then highlighted the area where I thought it might be and applied a Hue/Saturation to see if I could bring it out a little, since I couldn't see it. I tried raising and lower the brightness with a transparent background, a white background, and a black background. I couldn't see it on any background, even zoomed in to 800%. I still don't know what it was, but I just drew a marquee around the highlight that I wanted, inverted the selection and deleted, and now the bounding box for the button is as it should be in Encore.
The extra weird thing is that this seemed to happen on random buttons in my design. In PS, I would create a new button group by duplicating the one above it, then move it straight down below the previous button. I replaced the text and then moved the highlight a bit to the left or the right to be in the correct spot in relation to the new bit of text. And that duplicted layer group which had the correct bounding box with no extraneous bits in the highlight layer would then all of a sudden have the incorrect bounding box and apparently some little bit that PS could see, though I couldn't. Strange.
So, still a bit mysterious, but thanks for your help and ideas.

  • Using area of image as button (active area)

    Hello
I have image (jpg) that is displayed in applet and I'd like to change portion of it into let's say button. I would see image as I did before but when I move mouse over this button area something would happen (listener).
Can I do it?. If yes, can this button have any shape I want?.
    Cheers

    yes and yes.
    the easy way is this:
put the image in one component, and put the button over top of it. there are a couple ways to do this:
subclass JPanel or JComponent (different people have different preferences here) and override the paint component method to paint the image.
THEN, Override either abstract button or JButton (again, different camps think differently here), and override the paint method (not the paint component method) to do absolutely NOTHING.
add your new button to the panel/component and voila. You have an invisible button overtop of your image (note, the visible property of the button will need to be true for it to respond, but you can choose not to paint the button, even if visible is true).
if you want to use any shape, you must also override the contains method of the button. I find the easiest way to do this is to create a java.awt.Shape or java.awt.Area object, and use the default implemnetation of contains of those objects.
Another solution, rather than painting the image in a JPanel or JComopnent, use the image as the icon of a JLabel, and put both the label and button in the same container, using either a null layout, and set the bounds yourself, or using a layout manager like stack layout which places all components in the same position, with a Z-ordering.

  • Active Area and Slices in a button

I would like to know more about Active Area and creating a slice in FW. Why we need it and how we use it in a workflow.
Also about setting it. Is it set all by itself when we create a button or we have to open Active Area item of a drop down menu in symbol properties window?

An Active Area is the area of a metallic rectifier that acts as the rectifying junction and conducts current in the forward direction. Just kidding. :-) It's the area of a web page that responds to the viewer's cursor, generated automatically when you create a button and add states to it. You can do that via the properties panel, by double clicking on the button symbol to activate Fireworks symbol editing mode.

  • How to keep the save-button active all the time?

    Hi!
    I'm using mobile sales 4.0.
On a tile i've only fixed questions and combo boxes with yes and no ...
When i write manually a "yes" in the combo box field the save button is active - When i use the combo box with a mouse click the save-button isn't active.
What are the settings i've to do to keep the save-button active all the time?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Best regards,
    Ingo

    Hi Ingo,
If your combobox is a bound control, then when you change a value in it, the save button should be enabled. Strange. But anyway, you can do this.
In the <b>combobox_OnValueChanged2</b> event, make a call to makeDirty method in the tile:
    If boundAttributeChanged Then
         <b>anchorthatyourcombotiedto</b>.bo.MakeDirty True
    End If
This will make the Save button enabled.

  • Button Activation Sequence.

    Hi Everyone,
I am creating a program which controls a voice coil controller.  In the program, I have a series of buttons that need to be pressed in a specific order, in order for the controller to operate correctly.  Various users will be using this program so it's imperative that they are used in the correct order to prevent controller malfunction.  I was wondering if there was a way, for when the program starts, all of the buttons except one be disabled.  Once that first button is clicked, a second one becomes enabled, and so on.. until they all have been clicked in the right order.  Finally, when a stop or reset button is clicked, the initial state of only one button active becomes true.  I have attached the project if anyone would like to view the GUI.  "Updated GUI Fretter" is the program and the "Test Control" tab is the one I am referring to.  I'd initially like the "Download Program" button to be active, then once that is clicked, "set home position" becomes available for use, and so on to the right.
Any ideas or suggestions on how to make this function are greatly appreciated.

  • Batch Master Classification View - Inconsistent button active

    Hi
We are encountering a problem of the Inconsistent button getting active in the Batch Master Classification tab (Material is batch controlled). We know the reason why this is getting active : Due to a wrong inbound value for a field called 'Sterilization Site' in the classification data (data element: ATWRT) through an interface from a legacy system.
We also know the solution to get around this: Go into the batch master in edit mode and delete the inconsistency by clicking on the Inconsistent button and then the delete button on the pop-up screen which gives the inconsistent value.
My requirement is: <b>How do we identify all the 'inconsistent' batches in the system?</b>  Is there a way to identify a batch having an inconsistent characteristic value?  (inconsistent value => value not existing in the allowed list of values for the particular characteristic)
When I try to do a F1 on the 'inconsistent' button, I get a help screen giving "Program: SAPLCHRG; Function: VCON".
    Thanks
    Chandra

    Steve,
You have given me the right solution, but in this one particular case that I am tracking, I think there is an aberration.
I've got an output of all batches by using the option 'Show Incomplete Status' in CL2A. But this particular batch has the 'Inconsistent' button active, yet the classification status is showing as 'Released'
Any idea how to deal with such batches and extract this information?
    Regards

  • Is there a way to pause button activations

Is there a way to pause the activation of buttons, I have a background video that rolls for a few seconds till it gets to a looping point, I don't want to see my active overlays of my buttons till then.
Is there a way to tell my buttons to become active at a certain time or to pause or wait.
This is my first experience with Encore, I used DVDPRO before and I could give the buttons a pause time.
Just need someone to point me in the right direction...
    Thanks,
    Lic

Encore uses a loop point designation, not a pause.
    Encore help re loop points:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/encore/cs/using/WSF49EA5DB-3743-49c2-9831-F66328B192F8.html
Help in After Effects deals with the loop point.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/encore/cs/using/WSA5513911-0AD1-440c-BDAD-2E0E806B425E.html
Keep in mind that it is not the "buttons" that show up when the loop point is reached; it is, as  you are saying, the highlights that appear. For the parts of the buttons that are visible unrelated to the highlights, you include them in the motion background, appearing at the point you want them.

  • Form of active area

I need create button - pointer with active area (with triangle form) to next menu-screen! So, now active area have rectangle form.
How I can do it (pointer with active area with triangle form)?

You can create a Button, with a triangular graphic on it, BUT the active area of that Button will be a rectangle, that encompasses all of the elements of that Button. There is no way to change the shape from a rectangle, but the user will not see that rectangle. All they will see will be the grahics and the Sub-picture Highlight, if one is created. That Sub-picture Highlight can take on almost any Shape, from a triangle to a multi-sided polygon, but that will be inside the rectangle, that defines the Button and all of its elements. Note: with multiple Buttons, there can be NO overlap of those rectangles. They must be separate and must never overlap.
Hope that helps, and good luck,
    Hunt

  • Keeping Control of Active Area Dimentions

As the subject reads, I am having a hard time keeping control
    of my button
    dimensions.
I am starting with a 12pt "About" text and converting it to
    button symbol.
The Up and Over state reads 16x46, in the Active Area I
    unchecked the "set
active area automatically" and set my own dimensions of
    20x48. Now, when I
place the button symbol in the stage it reads 17x48!
I forgot to mention I added a bit of glow to the over state,
    but it is
    almost negligible.
To top it off, the slice name is a million digit number,
    instead of a slice
    number format.
Is there a better technique to have a tighter control of my
    buttons?
    Thank you for your assistance,
    Ricky

Good question. This bugs me, too.
I usually either zoom in, or enter values numerically in the Option Bar.

  • Getting error message in debug "Page contains page items/buttons which are not assigned to a region!"

    Hi,
I created a form and when I submit, it goes through but there is no "success" or "failure" message on Apex. I tried debugging it and got this message:
"Page contains page items/buttons which are not assigned to a region!"
I looked at the page definition and it seems like everything is assigned to a region. Much appreciate your help.
    Thanks!

For your message, the relevant branch needs "include process success message" to be checked - and a value in success/failure in your process.
Check the submitting & landing page for items not in a region. Under the items section there may be items listed separate to those under specific regions.
It's possible these are related, but not guaranteed.

  • Button Images are not shown

    Dear All,
In one of our test instance, some button images are not shown, whereas some are.
They are shown as grey button.
I searched metalink, according to them patch 1238573 should be installed, which is already installed.
    What could be the reason?
Also, is there any way to find out which images are missing?
    Regards,
    Ashish Shah

    Hi
I've seen this happen a few times. The solution is usually to synchronise something called 'the X-Server' with the middle tier. I'm afraid that the technology is over my head, but it does work!
The X-Server controls how images are rendered in the e-Business Suite. Your DBA should know what this is and it's a simple matter of stopping and restrating the X-server.
    That should do the trick!
