Button creation in photoshop

Can someone describe the process of button creation for DVDSP in Photoshop? Mine keep coming out gray.

Applies a bit, I assume you mean it looks gray when simulating? The above deals with the concept, in the inspector you need to set the colors for the buttons -- look for Overlay Color Mapping in PDF, (PG 217 for DVD SP 3)

  • Button creation Adobe Encore vs. DVD studio pro (mac only)

I'm sitting here, trying to figure out what to do if you want to create a neat button with transparency quickly.
I remember my time at school where we used DVD Studio pro to create our DVD menues based on photoshop images.
Right now, I am trying to create a menu of that kind but guess what? I can't do it as easyly as it can be made with the other program NOT
designed by Adobe. But, what a shame, I have no mac to use DVD Studio pro -.-
Why isn't it possible to SELECT LAYERS of an image created with a program of the SAME COMPANY to represent the different status on
a DVD menu? It would be soooooo much easier. But no!
    "Solid colors only
Elements on these layers must use solid colors and sharp edges. Use one solid color per layer. Do not use gradients, feathering, or anti-aliasing on the subpicture layers. Color gradations are not possible in subpictures." (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/EncoreDVD/4.0/WS2CF5669B-310A-4fa7-A52F-7D01AB25A846.html#WS AC753DA7-21EF-464a-9FC0-8D873658D760)
It's not possible??? Why??? I could create a picture in Photoshop and, later, it would be on your TV just as you saw it already while creating it.
All the annoying prefixes would be needless, too!
Instead I get some ugly colour changes, I have just one colour for a layer (ridiculous!!!) or the writing even disappears for a reason I can't understand...
Encore is a very mighty program, but the button creation is a very nasty work. Like apple showed, There is a way that guarantees a very more easy way.
    Please revise this function!
Am I underskilled? Am I wrong? Please comment
    sincerely
    Elke Kolke

Actually, Button creation is easy in PS, and one can even populate a Menu with Library Buttons in Encore, and then edit them to suit in PS. This latter method saves having to do the Button Layer Set and Layer naming by hand.

This is a limitation of the DVD-specs. and not Encore/PS. One is bound to those DVD-specs. Sub-picture Highlights can ONLY be 2-bit color (either ON, or OFF, plus can have Transparency - think just the opposite of Opacity in PS). There are design ways to create the "illusion" that one has Sub-picture Highlights, that get past the DVD-specs., but those are only illusions. One is still bound to the DVD-specs. This ARTICLE might offer some tips on creating the illusion.
All the annoying prefixes would be needless, too!
Those "annoying prefixes" tell the DVD player how to handle the Buttons. Without those, the player has no clue that you have a Button, and will only display a static graphic.
Jeff Bellune has a great book, The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe EncoreDVD 2.0, Focal Press. Though it was written for an earlier version, 100% of that book still applies, because the DVD-specs. have not changed. He steps one through building custom Buttons in PS for use on a DVD. He also shares a ton of tricks to create illusions within the DVD-specs.
    Good luck,

  • Every time I try to create a new button I get "photoshop file error -1"

I'm creating a BluRay set of discs. I'm on number 4 and there will probably be 12. I use the previous discs as a template for the new ones to save huge amounts of time. I haven't had an issue till I opened my project today. Usually I right click on a menu, edit it in photoshop, save it back in, and then I right click the new elemnts and turn them into buttons. I've made dozens of menus like this. Then today I get "photoshop file error -1" that pops up every time I try to make something into a button. I deleted the menu I was working on and used a different menu to rebuild it but I get the same problem. I then opened the photoshop file and saved it to a different location outside the project and then imported it into Encore. Same problem once I tried to make buttons. I also tried trashing the preferences. No Luck. I really need to get this working. It has completely destroyed my ability to get this job done. Ideas anyone?
If it helps, I am on a Mac running OS X 10.9.1. Encore is version CS5.1.

I thought there ought to be way to add buttons from the Encore library, but I don't think we found one.
Best case: add menu from the library with buttons like what you want. Change background etc.
I like working that way rather than adding things within Encore.
Worst case: add a menu with the buttons you want; "edit in photoshop" and also "edit in photoshop" your menu; copy paste to your menu.
You can also directly open library menus; add buttons etc from the encore library folders. I would make a copy of them first. Encore imports a menu from the library to your project; it is never working on its master copy.

  • Loss of "Edit in Photoshop" button functionality with Photoshop CC

First, I must say I am highly dissapponted in Adobe's decision to stop developing Encore. I know that streaming and cloud access to video projects is the fture, but DVD and BluRay is still the standard for a majority. I film events, weddings, training sessions, etc. and am still asked to provide a hard copy of the product.
I downloaded Photoshop CC and have now lost the "Edit in Photoshop" button functionality. This was an extremely convenient feature allowing editors to modify and enhance DVD and BluRay menus easily in Photoshop given the limited options for editing in Encore itself. Unforutnately, I deleted Photoshop CS6 before checking this. I just assumed that Adobe would have kept this function.
How can I fix this? If I need to re-download Photoshop CS6, will you provide a link to do so?
Finally, is Adobe really sticking to its guns with not continuing Encore? It is one of the best authoring tools I have worked with for its price and its a shame to see it go.

    >will you provide a link to do so?
While there are a "few" Adobe employees who read/post (mostly in the Premiere Pro forum) this is primarily a user to user form... so the best I can offer is the IDEA to look on the Cloud to see if there is a link to download Photoshop CS6
The only actual CS6 link I have is to purchase the standalone (not cloud) products http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/cs6._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_sl_c reativesuite6.html?promoid=KFPMZ but that would mean buying outside of the cloud
You might want to contact Adobe to ask about this - http://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html
Next link has a "Chat Now" button near the bottom

  • Is there a way to export different button states from Photoshop to Edge Reflow? (eg., normal, hover, hit)

Is there a special naming convention I can use for layers to have the Photoshop to Edge export tool automatically recognize a button with various states?  Rather than have static images, is it possible to have normal, hit, and hover states?
    Thanks.

No, there's not a way to do this from Photoshop.

  • Click won't work right on buttons imported from Photoshop

In Edge, I have created an application where a user can click buttons and then it takes them to a separate scene. However, I seem to have run into a problem where the click only works in a certain area of the box. I created the buttons in Photoshop and imported them to Edge. Only the edge of the button closest to the edge of the stage will work for clicking for some odd reason. Any suggestions?

Not sure how to upload the whole project on here (sorry, I haven't used the forum before today), but here are a couple of the assets.
I hope that is helpful, and thanks for responding.

  • Background & Buttons Created in Photoshop

    I want to:
    A. burn a Widescreen (16:9) DVD;
    B. which has a still background with some buttons which, when pressed, will take the viewer of the DVD to the appropriate part of the DVD;
    C. I want to make this background and the buttons in Photoshop. The buttons should preferably (but not absolutely necessary) be just text (eg., "Play", "Farming") where the background shows through the "holes" in the text (eg., the hole in "A", "O" etc.) as though the text was simply overlayed rather than in an opaque box.
To do this (if it is possible) I plan to buy a second hand version of DVD SP.
I have Final Cut Express 3.0 (which exports video in QT form) and Photoshop 7.
    1. What versions of DVD SP will do what I want (if any)?
    2. What other software would I need (eg. Compressor)?
    3. What was the version number of the last DVD SP before it was combined with FCP?
    4. I have OS 10.3.9 and QT 7.1.1 Would Version 1 of DVD SP work with these and do what I want (sometimes current Apple software does not like working with older software)?
I have searched this forum, and the iDVD forum is unable to say whether iDVD 6 will do what I want.
    Many thanks for any info.
G5/2.0 GHz Mac OS X (10.3.9) 1 GB RAM, 150 GB HD, Sony DCR-HC96 mini DV, FCE HD 3.0

    1. What versions of DVD SP will do what I want (if any)?
All; but you would be advised to use 2 to 4 (see later).
    2. What other software would I need (eg. Compressor)?
None: Compressor is included, and you already have PhotoShop.
    3. What was the version number of the last DVD SP before it was combined with FCP?
    4 (DVD SP4).
    4. I have OS 10.3.9 and QT 7.1.1 Would Version 1 of DVD SP work with these and do what I want (sometimes current Apple software does not like working with older software)?
Version 1 only works if you boot into OS9.
Version 3 (& 2, presumably) works well with OS 10.3.9 and QT 6.5.
I would recommend version 3 - though I am not sure if you having QT 7 would still cause problems, or if the difficulties with QT7 & OS 10.3 have been fixed.

  • Importing a button worked in PhotoShop

How can i import a button that i created in Photoshop to DSP
cause in DSP u can only make a rectangle or square or u have to use the shapes that DSP have
what if i wanna draw a button and i want it to work as a button in DSP
    any ideas ?

that means that theres limitation of making buttons
Yes, in general, sort of The button area that you draw in DVD SP is limited BUT the image itself can be any shape that is highlight. So the button itself can be be any shape. For instance you can use circles (made a quick file) Of coursse there is a limit on how close the shape can get to one another (buttons should not overlap) and at some point some more shapes (think of maybe peices of a jigsaw puzzle being highlighted) may be hard to implement, but with a little work and planning (see overlays below as one option) you can fake it.
http://www.geocities.com/mypix013/Circles.zip has a project and photoshop files There is also a folder called screen shots to help see what I am talking about. Open up DVD SP and press the F3 Key to get the same layout
whats the difference if its layered or overlay both of them u have to draw
In the project above I made 4 menus (not they do not link actually, just to show layout) You can take a look at them to see how it is done. (If you need more details let me know.) Quick description below
The first is called Layered Menu with 2 buttons
There are 6 layers of circles
    Red 1 (top circle)
    Red Copy (lower circle)
    Blue 1 (top circle)
    Blue Copy (lower circle)
    Green Copy (top circle)
    Green 2 (lower circle)
In the general Tab of the inspector you will what layer are always set to be visible (non in this case) (See screenshot Layer1)
Now if you select a button and click on the layers tab in the inspector you will see how the layers are set Red 1 is normal for button 1 (non selected, non active) for button 1, Blue 1 is selected for button 1 and Green 1 is activated for button 1 (you can simulate the menu.) (See screenshot Layer2) Same for button 2, but using the Red Copy etc.
Layered shapes is a variation of the same with shapes that cross over (note the buttons themselves are over to the right) Using layered menus does not require the buttons to be over an area
NOTE: Layered menus are not as reliable as non layered menus and may not behave the same on all players
The more reliable method is basic overlays (picts are most relaible for me)
Non Layered 1 Has background of Circles.pict and overlay layer of Black_Over.pct Select the menu (not a button) and inspector click on the colors tab. You will see grayscale is selected. Then three more selections, normal, selected, activated. There colors were set to Red, Blue, Green for ech state (See Screenshot Layer3)
Non_layered 2 is the same thing but uses Black_Gray overlay (a black circle with gray inner circle) and you can see how you can map the gray area using the sliders in the inspector for the colors
    Hope this helps

  • Panel creation for Photoshop CC 2014

    Hi!
Whether I understood correctly that in the Configurator 4 it is impossible to create the panel for the Photoshop of CC 2014.
Whether there will be an updating?

Afaik, Adobe Configurator is being discontinued - ALL Flash support is.
Rather lame of Adobe to push through with this update before there are any alternatives around. Because as it is now, there are no alternatives around unless you wanna mess around with the SDK.

  • Please help me make Encore button layers in Photoshop

I modified a library menu from Encore in CS4 but my button layers are off kilter so that the selected and activate layers just look like jumbled text.  I made my buttons from text of the material they link too, so the layer two and three text looks offset and murky. I'd like to have the actual text change color for the select and activate layer. I envision a color scheme from the US flag. Normal state is red, selected blue and activate white. I can't figure out how to do this. One thought I had was that perhaps the text needs to be changed to a smart object and then it can be set up. But the color palette in Encore is confusing to me. Anyone able to provide me an instruction list to do this?

    Thanks Bill:
I have navigated to your article (web page I saw did not have the images) and already attempted to create my menu following the isntructons. I backed off because I have a bigger edit issue. I have a sequence with a decode mpeg error with video drop out and loss of sync that I have now asked a question for on the Premiere forum. This is not a screen shot of my layers with your transparencies but the one that corresponds  my menu above.
It differs from the menu of my prior project referenced above in that my text layer is at 100% opacity as you can see.
My prior menu with effects on the text layer has about 73% opacity and 40% opacity in the fill. You can see how it works from the normal to the selected state.
When I imported my Cuba menu into Encore and viewed the selected and activated states the whole thing became a mess. I think my solution to make a simple change in the states as I did in the first menu is to open the color dialog in Encore and select the best color to make a workable change as to a good blue as I can get. I'll do some color research to see if that can even work.
I wish i could see the images of how your transparency process came out. I may run out of time to use it here because I have to solve the sync problem and get this overdue project delivered, but I will try it later.
