Button disolve transition

I put together a simple DVD with one button pointing to a movie. I marked
the disolve transition using the button info (inspector window). The resulting
burn did not render the disolve - garbage breakup in the video. I changed
to fade through black and got a clean burn. Anyone else having this
problem with the disolve render? Does not show up in the preview.

I got the same effect when using the mosaic flip small for a transition from button to movie.
I got black white distorted images of my macs desktop during thew transition. very weird. any ideas?

Button Link Transitions with Audio?

Ive got a question on what can be used as a Button Transition. I have a 10 sec. AV in PP2, that I want to use. In general, no problems. Ive Exported the Video to DV-AVI (silent), and it works beautifully. I only have to do a blend from the Menu for the head and then a still from the Timeline at the tail. No biggie. What I am having problems with is getting an SFX Audio file into the PP2 Sequence for this Transition. So far, I am having problems. I tried to make a Timeline for this AVI with an AC3 Audio, but Encore2 would not allow a link to it, via the Pickwhip. I tried to Import several variations of muxed files, but kept getting errors with the number of channels on Import. Then, I did a muxed MPEG file, and got my first big "Crash" of Encore2. When I linked to the M2v, I got something about Abbie Normal Condition. Wasnt he the founder of the Yippies back in the 60s, along with poet, Allen Ginsberg? The error (really An Abnormal Condition... Please try to Save... ) came up and I could not even exit from Encore2. Had to finally use TaskManager to kill the Process. This was a first for me after all of these years. Lesson - do not use the M2v as a Button Transition!
Now, Im certain that there are possibilities that I have not tried, but before I beat what could be a dead horse, I wanted to find out one thing: can I even have Audio in a Button Transition?
I have total control over my Asset, so I can engage in any workaround necessary. If anyone has any info (Help/Manual do not go deeply into specifics on Button Transitions, and even Jeffs Book, Focal Easy Guide... doesnt mention them, as I can find.), Id greatly appreciate it. Same for any ideas on using Audio for these. In my case, its a bit of an electronic whoosh with a long gong tone, and moves left to right and rear to front to rear (in the 5.1 version). I do not need to do 5.1, as stereo, panned left to right would work fine too.

Thanks for the simple little test. I just linked my existing SFX AC3 to the Main Menu's Audio and it worked fine. The pan/fade of the 5.1 was intact and worked in Preview.
I Exported the Button Transition test as a DV-AVI/PCM WAV from PP2, and Imported as a Timeline into Encore2. Tested and it played fine, but there was just the left-right pan, as expected. Linked my Button #1 to the AVI, as it would not link to the Timeline (as before), and went to Preview - "An Abnormal Condition... Save... " happened again. It is obviously not just the M2v, but the AVI, as well.
Back to square one in my tests. I've been working with a preliminary, test Project in Encore. It was used to create a DVD set for client review of most other aspects of the Project. It contained 4 Dynamic Links to AE, which were rendered out, plus 2 Menus a short lead-in AVI and some other Assets. Without any Button Transitions, it previewed and burned perfectly.
What I am going to do now is create a fresh Encore2 Project. Initially, it will only have the Play First AVI, the two Menus (Main & Scene Selection) and then I'll work with just the Button Transitions - all other Assets will not be included. I want to eliminate any other possible problem from the mix.
One thing that occurred to me was that this Project was a very full DVD. Though the Transcode is Automatic, I wonder if I am now adding too much to an already Transcoded Project. Rather than clear all Caches, and Revert to the unTranscoded state in this Project, I'll build, instead, from scratch. If that works, I'll just do the Button Transitions for the Scene Select Menu (4 Buttons/Links) and test again. If it still goes well, I'll add in the Rendered AE files and probably not use DL this time. Then, I'll Transcode and test to see if it all holds up. This method will not tell us exactly where the problem lies, if it works at all, but then when I have time, I can go back and clean Caches and Revert the Assets for a final test.
To date, the motion-only Button Transitions worked fine. It was only when I have tried (several different schemes) to add Audio, that I have encountered the problem.
Should have the preliminary test this AM, as the Project is very simple and starting over is not a big deal.
One side observation that I have made is that after I had to use TaskManager to end the Encore2 Process the other day, it now takes Encore2 a few minutes to even get the Splash Screen up. This is new behavior. I also cannot shift focus to/from Encore2 (with PP2 open), by clicking on the icon in the Taskbar. Even Rt-clicking and choosing Restore does not Maximize it. Only by going to TaskManager and clicking on the Application does it Maximize. As this was my first Encore2 "Crash," I am not sure what might be happening there. If I can get this Project done, I'll probably do a Repair Installation of Encore2, to see if the new behavior subsides.

Play Button with Transition

I am trying to create an initial slide that will look similar to a video played on Youtube. I would like the user to click on a Play Icon which triggers a transition to fade out and then start the presentation.
Any ideas how I would do this?

Hi,
By default Captivate generated files plays automatically. There is an option to start playing the movie on demand.
Open your project in Captivate and follow Edit> Preferences > Project > Start and End > Uncheck the "Auto Play" check box. This will insert a play button and in the published file until user clicks on the play button movie does not start playing.
Now to trigger a transition on clicking the play button insert a blank slide with background similar to your presentation.Let the blank slide be the first slide. Reduce its slide time. In the Slide properties of the Blank slide change its transition. Now a transition effect gets created after clicking on the play Button.

I am trying to add transitions. I set the playhead and click on the transition I want but the 'add' button is not highlighted - I can't click on it!
What am I doing wrong?

Thumbnail Buttons in Transition Effect Ga;;ery

I have used the attached code to apply transition effects to
a JPEG This code works great but when I try to install thumbnail
buttons using loadclip or loadmovie the JPEG loads with out the
effect or doesn't load at all. What can I do to get my thumbnails
to load JPEG's with transitions when clicked?

its probably that your image isn't displaying fully loaded
when you call the function. I know you script appears to have that
solved, but try this...
ad trace("HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA")
to your onLoadInit function.
ad trace("BOOOO YOU SUCK")
to your onLoadComplete function.
Just mess around with those and see if that might be your
problem. I'm actually unsure, I'm not on my main machine with my

I want to add disolve transition across multiple images?

In FCP7 I just select all the images in the bin and drag them over the Canvas window and select insert with transition. Is there a way to do this same thing in FCPX? Thanks.

Just select all the clips you want the transition applied to and then either double click the transition or drag it to the project and drop it on one of the selected clips.

Smooth Content Transition on Button Click?

I am creating a website with a content box and 4 buttons which activate 4 different pages of content. I would like the content box to resize smaller on one page when activated by a button and resize back to normal when clicked on any other button. I figure I will use a shape tween to resize the box to avoid distortion. So, how do I program each button to transition properly if the page with the smaller box is displayed?

All Tweens are coded pretty much the same, where you specify the starting value of the property of the object and the final value it should reach for that property at the end of the Tween.
example = Tween(instanceName, propertyToChange, easingMethod, startingValue, finalValue, changeDuration, durationBasis (secs or frames))
Since you're not really scaling the area, just reducing the width (I think), you don't have to Tween the scale property, but can tween the width property instead.
So if your clicking a button that's related to a display that's gonna be 960 wide, then that's the final value that you assign. If it's gonna be the 760 display, then that's the value you assign.
If you did want to go with tweening the scale, and you end up picking the 960 to represent the 100% scale, you want to specify the percent scale for the finalValue (100x760/960 = 79.2%)... so the finalValue would be either 1.0 or 0.792

No smooth Blu-Ray transitions...

hi all!
this problem is nearly driving me crazy: i use encore cs3 and want to have transitions between my menu and the clips (e.g. static menu -> button pressed -> transition (menu items fade out) -> video clip).
i used the transition feature but i always have a black screen for about a second between all files (menu to transition, transition to clip) when playing the disc.
i tried converting the timeline in premiere and then importing to encore - and also had a shot at dynamic linking from after effects. but always the same problem i encounter on both, my samsung bd-player and my lg bd-r in combination with powerdvd 7.
any help is highly appreciated since i couldn't find any solutions on the web and i ran out of other options to try...

Is this "black screen" in Encore's Preview, or on a burned BR disc? Preview does this with DVD Projects, but the "black screen" does not show up in a burned DVD. I am only guessing that it might be the same for BR discs. Maybe someone else can confirm, or deny this.

Button dosen't work properly, need help please

In a custom component I have 5 buttons, for each button i have the roll over, roll out and on click Interaction
So if you roll your mouse pointer on a button it transitions to a state that looks the same but a picture pops out and if i roll out in transitions back
to the first state within the custom component. Every thing works properly except the "on click" interaction: when I click on the button it briefly
transitions to the state it needs to (a totally different one, within the custom component) then it comes back to the original state within custom component
I played around with the "when in state" button but I can't get a crack at it, please help me and ask anything you need if I my explanation wasn't clear enough

Sounds like you might have an interaction misapplied to some part of the component. I would look around for a rogue On Click interaction, and also look at what the Pressed states look like of the button.

Enabling transition effects window pane

Hello
I'm playing around with CS5.5 and currently reached tutorial 6: Applying transitions in Adobe Premiere Pro, on the CS5.5 tutorial list.
My problem involves showing the transition pane in the CTI. The disolve transition effect works in video when I click and drag the effect between two video panes but it's not producing one for its self. Because of this I can't expand the time of the transition.
Perhaps someone could offer a solution so the Cross Disolve pane appears, or a work around that allows me to adjust the interval length.
I'm sure the answer is quite simple but I'm pretty new to this so thanks for your patience.

I read that over but my transition effects between clips are still not manageable. The clips don't show up in the effects panel nor can I click on the transition effect in the effects panel.

No timellines for the first Interaction (when I use 2 for the same button)

I have 3 pages and one button (on page 1) that have (a) an OnClick "Play transition to page2" AND (same button) (b) an OnClick "Play transition to page3"...
The first transition (transition to page2) seems to play without any regards to the length (seconds) of the timelines that I set... it seems to do whatever it suppose to do but in a fraction of a second (like if I had set the timelines to 0 sec.). After, the second transition (transition to page 3) works fine (according to the number of seconds that I set in the timelines.
Is it a bug or a misunderstanding on my part?

Thanks for posting your project, Roger.
What's happening here is this:
You have two interactions on the button: On Click > Play Transition to Page2, and On Click > Play Transition to Page3. You expected it to play Page1 > Page2, and THEN play Page2 > Page3, which is understandale, because that's sure as heck what the interactions panel LOOKS like it's going to do. Right?
Well, unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Whenever you trigger a "Play Transition to State" interaction, it happens immediately, cancelling the current transition and starting the new one. So Catalyst is starting the transition Page1 > Page2, and then immediately interrupting it with Page2 > Page3.
You can corroborate my explanation by trying this: add another button with the interaction: On click > play transition to Page1 > Page2. When you click that button, the transition plays incorrectly.
I think there is a conceptual mismatch here. It seems that you're trying to use states like keyframes. In this case, Page2 is just an intermediate keyframe, and Page3 is the actual destination. Right? However, states are not keyframes. They are the various destinations, or endpoints, of your application. E.g. If your website has a "Home" and a "Products" page, those would be your states, regardless of how you choose to animate between them.
So, then, how do you do more elaborate, keyframe-like animations? There are basically two answers to this question:
A) FC's animation tools are for the simple transitions that typically happen in web applications. If you want sophisticated animation, you can use Flash Professional, which can create beautiful, incredibly complex animations. Flash Catalyst and Flash Professional are not tightly integrated at this point (you can embed a SWF created in either product in a project created in the other), so you'll need to make a judgment call for your particular project.
B) You can do somewhat more complex animations in FC by adding additional actions, other than the default ones, to your timelines. Here's a simplified example that will illustrate the technique:
1. Create a new project
2. Drag out a button from the Wireframe Components panel
3. Duplicate state
4. In Page2, move the button somewhere else
5. Look at the Page1 > Page2 transition. You should see a 0-length "Move". Click "Smooth Transition" to make this take some time. Preview the transition. You should see a simple linear move. Select the move effect and Look in the properties panel. Notice the combo box that says "State Transition". Don't change it.
6. With the button selected, in the Timelines panel, click "Add Action > Move". Select this move effect and look in the properties panel. Notice the combo box says "Relative", with X and Y beneath it.
7. Drag the original move effect so that it happens AFTER the relative move. Preview the transition. You should see the button move to the relative position (by default, X and Y increase by 100px each), and THEN move back to the Page2 position.
8. By changing X and Y of the relative move, you can get the button to go anywhere.
9. Let me know if it works!
One caveat to this technique: make sure your moves are arranged down and to the right in the timelines panel. There is a bug that if you have two moves adjacent, and they are arranged up and to the left, they won't work correctly.

Premiere Elements 10 Transitions not working

I have added cross disolve transitions to Premiere Elements 10, and tried increasing duration, but does not seem to work (just vague blurring). I have recorded to DVD to see if transitions visible, but to no avail.
I have been successful in Premier Pro 4 and Serif X5, but wish to use Premier Elements as easier to split timeline and make cuts (tedious in PremierPro 4). Can't afford Premier Prof 5!!

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.
There can be several reasons that a Cross-Dissolve (or some other Transitions) might not work.
One of the most common is that the user just makes a Cut, but does not alter the footage, and when they place the Cross-Dissolve over that Cut, there is not change, as the Frames have not changed.
The next is when one adds a Cross-Dissolve between Clips, that do not have adequate Handles, extra Frames, that are necessary for the Transition to function properly. This ARTICLE goes into more detail on Handles.
Do either of those situations have anything to do with what you are experiencing?
If not, can you post a screen-cap, showing the Clips, to which you are having issues with the Cross-Dissolve Transitions, and tell us exactly what you have done, prior to the addition of the Transition?

Dual Function Button

I have a series of panels that slide into position when selected. I have a button on each panel with an arrow pointing to the right indicating a transition to the open state. I have created the interaction that when clicked 'we' move from the "Home" page/state to "Card#1" page/state. Now I want to spin the button 180 degrees so it is now pointing left (the closed/home page/state) and on click I now want the functionality to reverse and move the card back to the "Home" page/state from "Card#1" page/state. Because I do not know how to add the dual functionality I need help. I can conceive of two solutions:
1 - create a second button that is identical to the first and on the transition replace the first "Open" button with the second which will have the interactions to "Close" the "Card#1" page/state returning to the "Home" page/state. But this just adds overhead and more graphics to an already graphically intense project.
2 - figure out how to somehow trigger a change in functionality, based on the current page/state and just use the one button. Something like...
          If page/state = "Home"
               Button Interaction = transition to "Card#1" page/state
          else
               Button Interaction = transition to "Home" page/state
Can anyone offer some advice on what my best approach might be?

I figured this out. Using the "When in State" functionality while defining the button interaction did the trick.

Poor Quality transition

I have used a cross disolve transition all through a movie which has worked successfully when viewed on the computer and when burned on a DVD and viewed on a television. However, one particular transition only has come out very poorly when viewed on the TV. It is between a video which has the black and white and old film effects with a black and white still photograph with a Ken Burns effect. The transistion looks blotchy, pixelated but without the square edges is the only way I can describe it. Am I asking imove / iDVD to do too much in processing these effects and a transition? Similar ones are OK although there is a lot of darkgrey/black in the photo.
Any advice welcome.

A sample frame or a short sample clip would illustrate the error better.

The Magnetic Timeline changes my timing when I add a cross disolve.

I am enjoying the FCP X but I am having a serious problem that I can't seem to shake. I am woking on a music video where I have a clip above my storyline that I want to fade in and out of view. In FCP 7 I could put the video in track 2 then add a cross disolve to the track and bam I have got a fade in out for the clip. My problem in FCP X is as follows:
1. I have a long clip in my main story line that is timed with music so it cannot be moved.
2. I have a daughter clip above it that is croped to be a partial frame.
3. I create a compound clip from the piece of the main storyline and the daughter clip.
4. I add a Cross Disolve from the transitions menu.
5. Now the music track is longer than the storyline, because the magnetic timeline litterly shortened the storyline.
I also tried making the daughter clip it's own storyline and still the cross disolve transition physically shortens my timeline rather than using the handles of the file. I have litterly hours on each side of the clip so it is not that. Any ideas or am I stuck keyframing to death.

I tried the new story line, but it still will take the edit point of my blade cut in the clip and treats it like the very begining of the file rather than some where in the middle. Maybe I am blind, but here is the problem as it stands in my mind:
When you use the blade tool in FCP X to cut a clip it treats the two pieces like whole clips that have no handles. In FCP 7 when you cut a clip with the blade and copied it, it still knew that it was part of a larger clip and would go back in time to find handle info for transitions. FCP X seems like it can't do this which means it trashes my timing in order to make handles.
If you can solve this riddle that would be great. It almost feels like a program flaw that will have to be solved in an update. Empisis on SOLVED in an update! (Just in case apple is reading)
