Button overlay challenges

Hello
I have a 2 defined buttons that are about 3/4x1 inch. I did a picture in adobe cs and saved as a pct, even saved it to a very small size, like .5x.25. I import it as a asset in DVSP, I drag to the menu and say overlay, it shows up in the menu as overlay set and when I select the button I see some of the picture. If I select the outer edge of the button and enlarge, I see my picture, it appears its coming in at as 720x480 size.
It there a scale down or import size setting I am not doing
thanks

You sound as if you are making a small image to be the button highlight image each time.... what you need to do is create a single image at the right dimensions which has got ALL of the highlight shapes for all of your buttons in one file.
For example, imagine that you have got a background image with three buttons on it, and you want three underlines as your highlights in your overlay. You create a single file at 720x480 or 720x576 (NTSC or PAL) and you make sure that it only has three horizontal lines in black (or gray) which will line up with the correct place on the background. You export this as a .pict file and import it to DVDSP.
When you draw the button rectangles in DVDSP you cover the underline as you go - it should take on the colours specified in the property inspector - you can edit these colours and make the underline be whatever colour you wish.
When you have got the hang of this, you could try using four colour overlay shapes and use the colour mapping in DVDSP to get better visual effects. An overlay cannot have more than four colours in it, as they actually become part of the sub picture stream on he finished disc, and the stream can only support four colours.

  • Button overlays on motion menus question

I've made up a motion menu in which the buttons move from off-screen and into position. However, before they get there the button overlay is already highlighted. I've seen menus like this where the button overlay only appears when the buttons come into their final resting place. Can anybody advise how to do this?

Not sure how you made the overlays or where you set the loop point.
If you make the overlays in Photoshop or Motion and set the loop point to the final resting place, then it should work.

  • V18: Enhanced button overlays

    I set up v18 (InDesgin CS5.5/Mac),

Audio with play button and pause button works well on iPad,
but Video with play button and pause button dosen't work on iPad.
(Both works well in content viewer on Mac)
    For Video on iPad,
OK: play button click at video stop -> video start
OK: pause button click at video playing -> video pause
NG: play button click at video play -> video freeze
    Please confirm this trouble.

  • Controlling menu button overlay?

I made a title menu video clip in Motion, with all the text including chapter headings.
I imported it into Studio Pro. I added buttons overtop the text in the video clip. I linked the buttons to the chapters. Everything works.
I added an overlay to the buttons ... mainly for the DVD Players, so the viewer can SEE his\her selections with the remote.
My video clip starts in black, the chapter text headings take 8 seconds to appear. My 'normal' not-yet-selected overlay mode actually shows up as a coloured rectangle (the same colour as the 'selected' mode) where the first button is placed. The text appears later, in the rectangle. So I have a not-wanted colour rectangle in the frame for 8 seconds.
    Is there a way:
    1. I can have the button overlay rectangle appear later in the menu video clip timeline - when the actual text arrives?
    Or...
    2. I can somehow have the 'normal' mode in play (as a non-colour, neutral or transparent nothing), until the mouse, or the controller actually 'selects' the chapter text (in the button)? At which point the coloured 'selected' rectangle would appear.
    All ears,
    Ben

    1. I can have the button overlay rectangle appear

    actual text arrives?
Straight through DVD SP, nope (unless I missed something, have not tried all the tricks in DVD SP 4) but you can do it either by (a) some some other editing software like dvdafteredit (thought I saw an article on this once) or (b) some tricks [but the easier way is below in settings :)]
i.) have the clip cut and put the menus next to one another and have it auto jump to the next menu (though you will probably see the jump on most players)
2.) Build subtitles/buttons on a movie track and make that work as a menu
    2. I can somehow have the 'normal' mode in play (as
a non-colour, neutral or transparent nothing), until
the mouse, or the controller actually 'selects' the
chapter text (in the button)? At which point the
    coloured 'selected' rectangle would appear.
The easiest way will be have the buttons all non-highlighted unless selected (change settings so you do not see the rectangle) .. the only issue is that one button by default is always selected, so you can make an invisible button, and then people will have to press to get to the next buttons, but then they can move around by setting the up down left right buttons not to ever move to the invisible button

  • MAC Leopard - Check Project - Button Overlay and Orphans

Where is the semantic web!!! I could't find in the morass here if anyone answered the following...
I try a CHECK PROJECT...if I check Button Overlay...the APPLE BEACHBALL OF DEATH appears and I am blown out of the program. I have 5 buttons and I swear to whomever they don't overlap! So that one is a mystery.
IF I check Orphans I get two items that appear (in my case 2 menu orphans)...if I double click on either I am blown out of the program. I see nothing in the project resources for these. I have but ONE menu. BTW, if I click on the FLOWCHART
I am adding the crash report below...just in case it is of value.

    Bill,
Understand that I am on PC and also am on CS2, so things might have changed, and these answers may well be void, but...
For the Button Overlay, since you are getting booted out of the program, lets try to look at the problem from another direction. With the Menu (the one that Check Project has already flagged as a problem) in the Menu Panel, click on Button Routing icon at the bottom of that Panel. You should see the Buttons come up with two things: Bounding Boxes around each Button, and the little cross, with the Button Numbers, showing the Routing for the players remote buttons. Look at the Bounding Boxes around each Button. Is there any overlap? Often, when building, or re-building Menus, this can happen, and there isnt another fail-safe way to check (a Feature Request might be in order for Photoshop, or Encore). If there is ANY overlap, you need to re-edit that Menu in PS (ideally, as it offers more power, than does Encore) and look at the Highlight sub-Layer for that Button. Re-size it to make sure that the overlap does not happen. I know that you feel confident, that there is no overlap, but Button Routing will verify that. If there is none, then thats another problem for you to hash out with the MAC folk, and a possible glitch in either the program, or within your system.
As for the Orphans, look in your Project Panel and check (in your case) Menus. Are there any, that are not used? You state that you have one Menu in the Project. Do more appear in the Project Panel? If so, remove them. In the Flow Chart Panel, you should also see the Orphaned Assets, in what else, but the Orphanage, at the bottom of that Panel. If you do not, and will not, need them, then Delete (Trashcan) should take care of that error message.
Now, as to why the attempts to work out of Check Project Panel crashes the program... well, I have no clue. Maybe the MAC folk can look at your failure list and tell you exactly what is going on there. However, if you can solve the problems elsewhere, you can get on with your Project, until such time, as you can work that one out.
Good luck, and sorry that you got a non-MAC person to answer.

  • Button overlay problem

hi. I made a DVD with a simple layered menu with 2 buttons and 2 movie tracks. In simulation the button overlay works fine, when I place the mouse over them they highlight. The problem is that after build&burn, I have to click twice the button to send me to the desired track. When I place the mouse over the button it doesn't highlight, press once it highlights, press second time it sends me to the video track.
(tested with DVD player, VLC and PC player - same behaviour)
    can anyone help?

    Welcome to the Boards
You have found one of the limitations on layered menus (assuming you did them properly which it sounds like you did) - sometimes rollovers will not work. Most set top players should be okay. This is one of the reasons why layered menus are usually not recommended for use around here (though of course you can use them knowing the issues)

  • Menu Button Overlays

    This is driving me buggy:
I've created a menu in Motion with a white background and 3 purple circles in front of the selection options: Play, Highlights, and Index.
I've created an overlay file in Photoshop, and after much trial and error I've managed to get the black circles in the .psd file to line up with the purple indicators. Now maybe I'm going about this the wrong way. I thought that the circles in the .psd file would hide the corresponding purple circles in the Motion menu unless the button was selected. Instead, the opposite is happening. There are always two purple circles visible, and a light gray circle appears over the purple circle of the selected button! Why light gray, anyway? Shouldn't it be invisible? (White) (This is happening, by the way, with a single layer .psd file. I tried with each black circle on it's own layer, and that does it's own weird thing.)
I'm just really at a loss here. It seems like what I'm trying to do should be simple. I want a purple circle to appear next to each menu option when it's highlighted. When they're not highlighted, I want the plain white background. The text of the buttons, Play, Highlight and Index, are animated, so they need to stay in the Motion menu. Do I need to somehow create the purple circles in DVDSP?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The circle is not "vector" so I think the grey is due to the fact that you have some interpolation (if that is the correct term) with regard to how the circle is done in psd.
Test. Switch to a pure box. I had this problem in a psd overlay file a few months back. client wanted ovals but the artifact was obvious. switch to square and all was well.

  • Selected/activated button overlay in Buttons over Video

I have six different buttons over video, with one overlay.
The buttons are assigned to each of six audio tracks.
When I select and activate a button the overlay goes from white to red, and the audio changes to the specified audio track. So far, so good. But, when I want to select another button, the red overlay disappears, and I see the selected buttons white overlay. This is of course "default", but I'd like the red overlay to stay, indicating that I'm still listening to that audio track, even if I'm choosing between another button.
Can this be done somehow? I'm thinking that perhaps I can add a subtitle that tells me what Track I have selected, but the overlay is already a subtitle...
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Only one button can be "selected" at a time, meaning when people scroll through the selections on the menu there is an indication of where they are/what they are about to press when they hit enter.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4573106&#4573106, take a look at the last post for a way to try to get the effect sort of happening
Same general concept applies to buttons over video. Only one state active at a time, and subtitles will not work since the buttons are a subtitle stream (of course you can use add text in the overlay for the buttons) Page 460 of the PDF

  • Just started today-immediate need is to take external swf, add invisible button overlay, click to URL

    Hello Everyone,
Let me provide a little background information to the need that I am trying to close on as I am attempting to get this incorporated into my website. It came with the recommendation to try the CS5 today to see if this will meet the requirement at the moment.
Here is what I am trying to do:
There is a desire to take custom SWF files (I think there is something called Swish files too?) from various sponsors for advertisement purposes and place them on my website.  The implementation was straight-forward to make them work through the webserver.
I tried a custom example of making a button that upon mouse click would open up a new webpage in CS5 which did work for me.
My problem is since the SWF files are finalized, there is no way to put URL information into those files.  After doing a lot of searching around today, it appears that the best way to redirect a user upon click of a video is to:
    1) Open up a new Flash
    2) Import the SWF video file into the project
    3) Create a Invisible Button over top the SWF video so when the user clicks, they are redirected to a specific URL.
But for some reason, when I tried to overlay it with a sample SWF file I imported, there was all this flickering going on to where both were made transparent to one another on the screen - not to mention the video wasn't even visible at all.  My hope was that the SWF video could be seen clearly while the button remained invisbile to handle the click on the video.
Is there someone on the forum that is able to guide me fairly quickly with a fast-path procedure so that I can try this?  If this will work for me, then I want to get the full product and begin doing a deep dive into what seems to be a very awsome tool.
Thank you for your assistance and help.  I appreciate it greatly...
    Steven

    Hi Kglad,
Thank you for your tremendous insight and solutioning into what I need.  Forgive me for being ignorant as I am so new to this tool and ActionScrpt.  If I open up a AS3 project with a blank stage, what must I click or do to insert the code into the appropriate section to see the demonstration of your solution?  Do I need to create a class file to use this or is there existing section of code that I can use to cut and paste this into ?  Once I know how to implement this in the tool, then I should be good to go.
In my attempt to find some reference information, would I do the following?:
    1) Open new AS3 Project
    2) With a blank stage opened.
    3) Create a new layer called "Action"
    4) Click on Frame 1 of the "Action" Layer
    5) Hit F9
    6) Copy and Insert Code
    7) Goto last Fame of the "Action" Layer
    8) Hit F5
Would these be the correct steps to implement the code above?
    Thank you very much!
    Steven

  • Digital Publishing Suite Help | Hyperlink and button overlays

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/hyperlink-overlays.html

@Fabian – just for the records: there is a way.
    But it's quite a hack!
You cannot rely on it for future versions of DPS or InDesign…
    1. You start with two buttons and a single MSO on the same page.
Button 1 says: Go to State 1 of MSO
Button 2 says: Go to State 2 of MSO
    NOW the hack:
    2. DUPLICATE (do not copy/paste) the two buttons by [alt] + drag with the mouse to page 2.
You'll see, that the duplicates still control the MSO on page 1.
The following screen shots will illustrate this:
Here the state control of the green button on page 1:
Here the state control of the green button on page 2:
    (Note the difference!)
To make it clear again. I would not recommend to do it.
But you could test it. Come back and report if that is working for you with the most recent versions of InDesign and ADPS…
    (I accomplished this with InDesign CS5.5 v7.5.3)

  • Green button overlay - turn it off

I'm new to Fireworks. I'm giving it a try over Photoshop, primarily for the "rapid prototyping". Although these last couple concepts I've done have been anything but rapid.
My question is, how do you turn off the green overlay that is by default on for button symbols? I find that overlay to be so distracting, and I can't find the right option. Sorry for the newbie question, and thanks for the response.

  • Simple buttons overlaying movie button

    Using Flash MX Professional 2004...
I'm trying to create a menu using movie clips of sliding
images with roll-over and roll-out effects. Within those movies I'd
like to overlay simple submenu item buttons.
    My work-in-progress
can be viewed here. In the example, when rolled-over, the
leftmost image displays a button labeled 'Menu Item 1'. However,
the 'Menu Item 1' button does not respond to my mouse roll-over.
Is there a way to accomplish this? I hope I have been clear
    enough.
    Thanks...

I don't see any rollover effect on anything except the images
that display aunder the menu buttons. If the movie loads over them,
then I wouldn't expect to see them change with a rollover... mainly
because they aren't visible at that point.
You may have to explain the problem a little better, because
for what I can see, there isn't one, except that you possibly don't
have content for the other buttons yet.
Your problem, whatever it might be, is most likely in your
code, so if you can show the code and explain what you want it to
do, then it will be easier to assess what might be wrong.

  • Image overlay challenge

I'm using the "image overlay with link" script (downloaded from apple) - I'm able to get as far as entering the target URL, then I get a message saying "The front movie has no file". I've saved the QT movie as source, and the image file is a JPEG, smaller than than the QT movie - the files are both in the same folder. What am I missing?
    Thanks

Many of these AppleScripts do not work with Tiger or QuickTime 7.
Until someone (smarter than me) fixes them the only way to make them work is to use them on an older OS and older QT Pro version.
They do work (the resulting file works properly on Tiger and Windows) but results are a bit "flakey".
I would avoid SMIL until Apple embraces the newest version of it.
    http://www.w3.org/AudioVideo/
Uses version 2.1 and I think (please don't quote me) Apple's QuickTime app only uses version 1.
This entire thread is important to QT content developers.
We don't need "broken" AppleScript support or third party tools to continue our Web based files.
    Or, do we?
