Button rollout state

I'm sure there is a simple answer for this, but it's got me
banging my head against the wall. Is there a way to have button I
create in Fireworks return to the up state image after they are
clicked and the mouse is off them?

You could make the fourth button state (onMouseOut) the same
image as
the normal state one.

  • Retain button over state with Pop-up Menu

    Hi,
    I am trying to work out how to retain button over state while
    scrolling over a pop-up menu. By default the button changes back to
    mouse out state, when scrolling over menu items for that button.
    I have tried to follow the advice in the below technote (see

    I am using Fireworks 8 - it appears the instructions are for
    a prior version. I cannot find function fwLoadMenus() mentioned in
    Step 3 (number 6.).
    Has anyone accomplished this in Fireworks 8, that could
    provide me with instructions?

  • Syncing Button Rollover States

    I'm building a website for myself (currently with the Muse trial, but I am planning to buy), and I have a question regarding button rollover states.  The site I'm building is an architectural photography website, and the general portfolio page has a list of subcategories in the left-side menu bar.  However, I also want to have thumbnail links to each of the subcategories in the main body of the website (see image provided).  The thumbnails are for the Educational and Municipal subcategories.  I have currently set up the rollover states for all the links in the left-side menu (to turn to the light blue that is seen on the active state of the Portfolio button), and I've set the rollover states for the thumbnails (to go to 50% opacity).  Is there a way for me to synchronize these rollover states?  I would like to see a thumbnail respond in its rollover state if I roll over its corresponding button in the left-side menu, and vice versa.
    Thanks!
    Rob

    Hi,
    To accomplish that you can use the composition tool tip. A transparent triger can be placed where your menu item is and the target will be on the image with an opacity of the 50%.
    However, this will only work in one direction and will not change the menu item when you roll over to the image.

  • Button "Selected State" bug confirmed for Blu-ray on Mac

    I just confirmed today with Adobe tech support that, at the moment, menu button selected states are invisible on Blu-ray discs created with Encore on a Mac.
    Meaning, if you have 5 buttons linked to 5 different places, the buttons will all work, but you will have no idea what you're selected on- because they are invisible! There will be no "highlight" or "selected" state for the button. Once selected, you will see the "activated state" for the button for a split second, then it will take you to the proper target track. But again, no way of knowing what buttons are selected.
    They said if the video/menu assets are 4:3, the buttons work fine. Good to know, but a completely ridiculous suggestion.
    At the moment, there is no solution. They are "working on it."
    This is only a problem with Blu-ray projects on the Mac platform. Lucky me. To a hobbyist, this isn't a completely devastating problem- you can still watch the content of the disc. But this is enough of a problem for that I can't deliver it to clients like this. Wasted time and money troubleshooting this. This is a major problem.

    Adam. When you see the LAYERS window, click on and off on your highlights. There is a small white looking box. Deactivate and activate this. This will activate the selected and activated states. We had this problem a long time ago and found this to be the solution!

  • Mc as button: rollout failing... and a lot of flickering

    I am having some trouble developing my movie clip buttons. Below is a link to a sample, plus the code i am using. Pretty much, it looks like my over state is working correctly, and if you click the button (still just in the small dot area in the center) i get the pop to full screen.
    My issue, is that my roll"out" is not working properly, as the dot should minimize when you mouse off of it. Also, I see a lot of flickering issues too... any ideas? Thanks!
    So, you can check out the basic anim here: www.midnyc.com
    and my code is as follows:
    function rover (e:Event){
        amyCase.gotoAndPlay ("in");
    amyCase.addEventListener (MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, rover);
    function rollout (e:Event){
        amyCase.gotoAndPlay ("out");
    amyCase.addEventListener (MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, rollout);
    function rclick (e:Event){
        amyCase.gotoAndPlay ("open");
    amyCase.addEventListener (MouseEvent.CLICK, rclick);

    i will give it a shot. I just recreated teh file, being sure the only thing within my movie clip button was the circle graphics. I am getting more direct / positive results – in taht the rollover / off work more than once before freaking out. Looks like when I rolloff something, like you said – that is where it goes wrong. Will def try this solution, but surely it is trial and error, thanks for the help, will let you know if it works.

  • Video in button Selected state?

    I'm rusty in DVDSP - been a couple of years since my last DVD menu project, but I have one now and the client has provided the menu art and description of what they want - but there are 2 items I'm not sure if I can include the way they want, and before I re-prep their art for Studio Pro (because, of course, it was prepped as if for print), I want to determine the best course to take, and reset their expectations, if necessary.
    1) They want video to play in a button, but only when it is selected - I can drop video in using shapes, but it's playing in all states. I can't use a layered menu, because the background also is motion (subtle looping, but motion just the same). Thought maybe I'd build the motion in the buttons and mask over with a still in normal state, reveal in selected, but can't seem to get there. So any ideas, or am I spinning my wheels trying to accomplish?
    2) They've prepped the buttons as if rollovers in a Flash presentation - the normal state has an image with a white border around it and title underneath - but the selected state has those as black PLUS a small arrow pointing at the title. I can't do a straight shape with text, because the arrow element will be present in all states. I can't do a layered menu because of the motion background. So what I've come up with is embedding the normal states of the button (white, without the arrow) into the motion background, and then create a shape with the text (black, with the arrow) but with only the highlight layer and no shape layer so that only the black highlight layer shows up over it when selected. This works, but I have to position it PRECISELY over the background normal button, or else white edges show and it gets ugly. So, is there a better way to do this that I'm overlooking?
    Thanks very much to anyone who has taken the time to read this novel, and even more thanks to anyone who has some insight into any possible solutions (or lack thereof).

    There is another way, but it's tricky.
    You create a series of menus that are almost identical. In the first, all buttons show still images, and the button auto activates to a copy of the menu where the appropriate button shows a video. If you have four buttons, you'll need five menus all exactly the same except in the last four, single buttons have video, others are stills. Every button that is a still auto activates to go to the appropriate menu where that button has video. Every video based button links to the relevant track.
    In practice, the user will see a still image, and when they select it (or roll over with a mouse if on a computer) the menu will jump to the associated sub menu where that button now has video and the others show stills.
    The problem here is that on some (most) players there will be a pause between the menus, and it won't be a slick and quick change.
    Using the masking technique is better in lots of ways, however as Drew said it will be hard to match the colours. Also, the mask shape will need to be your 'still' image (which might help obscure the colour differences) and this can only have four colours.
    A further consideration is that the mask shape will be part of the button highlight (well.... it will BE the button highlight) and as such will exist in the subpicture stream. It is impossible to guarantee that this will stay in place or be in place when leaving or entering a menu. In effect, when you click a button the first thing to disappear is the sub picture stream, which means all of your videos will be visible for a fraction of a second, or perhaps slightly longer. Secondly, when entering a menu, the last thing to be created is the subpicture stream, which means that all of your button videos will be showing for a fraction of a second until they get covered.
    The amount of delay in each case will depend on the player. For some it'll be tiny. For others it'll be seconds and will ruin the effect you are looking for.
    I would probably prefer the delay as you change menus to the revelation of all the button videos, but you'll have to decide for yourself which is better!

  • Specific problem with buttons and states

    Hello,
    I first apologize for using Google Translate :-(
    I have a problem with InDesign not solve. It is for a digital publication.
    My goal is:
    A 'gallery' button is pressed and the ball image appears with three buttons: "Previous image", "Next image" and "close gallery".
    I do not want the gallery to be visible, or buttons that control, until the button is pressed "gallery", so I think all buttons except "gallery" with the "hidden until activated" option selected.
    I want the gallery, and buttons that control it, disappears when I press the button "close gallery".
    What I call "Gallery" is an image that fills the screen.
    After placing the image on your site have become the property button "Hidden until activated."
    Then convert this button in order to several states (what I will call "button states") and by the successive states with the images I want to show in the gallery.
    I think the interactions of the buttons.
    When button "gallery" I assign the following "I click the"
    - "Go to state"
    - Hide "gallery"
    - Show "close gallery"
    - Show "previous picture"
    - Show "next image"
    - Show "button states."
    The buttons "Previous Image" and "Next Image" are assigned, respectively, to go to previous state and go to the next state.
    When button "close gallery" I assign the following "I click the"
    - Show "gallery"
    - Hide "close gallery"
    - Hide "previous picture"
    - Hide "next image"
    - Show "button states."
    The buttons "Previous Image" and "Next Image" are assigned, respectively, to go to previous state and go to the next state.
    When button "close gallery" I assign the following "I click the"
    - Show "gallery"
    - Hide "close gallery"
    - Hide "previous picture"
    - Hide "next image"
    - Hide "button states."
    I put it up and working properly until I press "close gallery". Then I hide the buttons "close gallery", "previous image" and "next picture" but it keeps me visible "button states" showing the last image that was shown.
    Do not know how to fix this and I'm going crazy!
    Please can anyone help me?
    The solution may be another approach but without using "Folio Overlays".
    Thank you very much.

    I've moved your post to the DPS forum.
    I'm afraid the way you're doing this is not going to work with DPS.
    This should all be done with a multi state object. The first state would contain nothing but a button to go to the first state. After that set up each state with the proper buttons. Without seeing the file it's a bit difficult for me to envision exactly what you want to do.

  • Link to frame in button rollover state not working..

    Hi guys,
    What I use: Flash CS5 & Actionscript 3
    So I had my buttons working just fine and linking to a frame. But after adding a rollover state in which my button has grown in size it no longer links.
    Does anyone know how to get my buttons linking in their rollover state?

    var someObject:MovieClip;  // this is declared - only
    var someObjectMovieClip = new MovieClip(); // this is declared and instantiated
    Make sure your code uses aghains and not instancename like your code shows.
    I don't think you understand the third and fifth items I listed either.  The third is saying that the code is not in the same frame as the item it is trying to target.  The fifth has to do with objects in consecutive frames, not linking.
    If you followed what I mentioned in the last sentence you should have a line number indicated in the error message that will tell you which line is causing the problem.  Whatever line that is, the object doesn't exist as far as the code sees it.  So if it was the line...
        instancename.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fl_ClickToGoToAndStopAtFrame_28);
    I can guarantee you that there is no object named instancename in the frame where you have that code since it is the only object targeted in that line of code.

  • Animated movie clips in button skin states

    Hello to gurus out there,
    i am trying to attach flash animated skins to my button in a Flex application. Can somebody help me?
    Works fine but don't animate the movieclip (timeline animation) on up, over and down states.
    Thnaks!
    CSS file:
    .flashButton
        up-skin: Embed("/../libs/assets.swf#upSkin");
        over-skin: Embed("/../libs/assets.swf#overSkin");
        down-skin: Embed("/../libs/assets.swf#downSkin");
    FlashButtonSkin
    [other code]
    <s:BitmapImage id="icon"
                       source="{hostComponent.getStyle('upSkin')}"
                       left="0" right="0" top="0" bottom="0" />
    Main.mxml
    <s:Button styleName="flashButton" skinClass="skins.FlashButtonSkin"/>

    flv's are video files, not movieclips.
    they can be imported into your main (or, any other ) timeline but that's not recommended because of possible audio/video sync problems.
    it's better to play your videos in an flvplayback component (window>component panel).
    can you add an flvplayback component to your stage?  if so, in the properties panel assign an instance name (eg, flv_pb).  if you can do that successfully, open the actions panel (window>actions) and paste,
    flv_pb.source = "thenameofyourflvfile.flv";   //<- use the correct path/name.  if you save your fla and flv in the same directory and use the default publish settings, no path is needed.
    and test.  any problem?
    if not, you're one step away from completing your project.  if yes, what problem?

  • Menu Window Show button selected state icons not visible

    Hello everyone. I am a new user of DSP3 (3days old), and I am not seeing the 3 Button state icons at the bottom of the menu window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Remember I'm new, so be gentle.

    This could be as simple as you not having a wide enough screen setting. Resizing the main work area from right to left makes those three buttons disappear before anything else. If you can, try expanding the area by dragging the bottom right corner out to the right some more.
    If this isn't working, you may need to adjust your screen resolution so that you can see more window area even though things look smaller.

  • MX:Button Selected State

    I'm working on a bug https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-16197 And trying to test a fix that I worked out, and now I'm realizing that I don't know when a button enters the "selected" state.  I placed a trace statement in the setter function for selected, and I couldn't figure out how to get it to fire.  I tried clicking, tabbing to it so it had focus, using space bar while it had focus.
    When is a button considered selected?

    A button must have toggle=true in order to stay in the selected state and will dispatch a CHANGE event when changing the selected property.

  • Button/multi state query

    Hello all
    I’m encountering a challenge which I believe has been discussed on these forums.
    This relates to pixelated, blurry text within buttons and multi-state objects.
    One solution to this issue is not using the objects containing text as buttons or multi-state objects. Instead, you insert shapes with no fill/stroke on top of text graphics and then grouping them.
    This ensures the text is sharp and clear.
    However, if you wish to have a roll over state, with a different fill/stroke/text colour as part of the roll-over state, then this poses problems as the shape serving as a button has to have no fill/stroke or text within them.
    Has around a work around for this problem?
    Many thanks
    H

    For clear buttons with click states, the easiest workaround is to place a dummy button over the image and change the stroke and perhaps even add a transparency fill. There is another more complicated workaround as well. For examples and instructions, see DPS Tips > Advanced Overlays > Sharp Buttons.

  • Button rollover state plays again after click

    Hello, I have made a portfolio in Flash 8 using Presentation
    Screens. The intro and all the navigation buttons are on the first
    parent screen. I have a rollover label animation on each button,
    which plays fine on the first rollover, but also plays again after
    a button click takes the user down to another screen. This seems to
    be a glitch in the Screens feature, as my tests show that this is
    not the case within a regular FLA document. Has anyone come across
    this??
    You can see the buttons in action at:
    www.opcarto.com
    Thanks

    I had a similar problem whereby I had built my own "frame" - complete with custom "minimize" and "close" roll-over buttons at the top right corner. The problem was that when you minimized the frame, then re-maximized it, the "minimize" button stayed in its "rolled-over" state, for the same reason yours does - the mouse never officially "leaves" the button.
    My workaround, which may or may not help you, was to call the processMouseEvent() method of the Component class (which is a parent of AbstractButton), whenever the frame is minimized. This seems to do the trick.
    Note that processMouseEvent() is a protected method, so I had to override it and make it public in a subclass, so I could go ahead and call it.
    You could do the same thing, but you would need to decide what event you would use to trigger the call (i.e. my event was minimizing the frame - your event might be mouseOver for your overlapping frame?? Might get a bit messy.... ;-)
    Hope this helps!
