Button to open MacBook Pro case chipping....

Hallo,
I have a early 2008 MacBook Pro and the paint ( i guess its paint? ) on the button of to open the notebook is chipping off and to be honest it just looks ugly. I have not been opening the computer carelessly or abusively, in fact, I've been SUPER careful with it.
I guess my question to you folks is:
Will apple do something about this (under their 1 year warranty) if I send it to them?
PS. I do not have applecare, i was planning on buying it after my 1 year warranty runs out.
Thanks for the help
MH

DML makes a good point--you must buy 3 year Applecare BEFORE the first year is up.
The only way to find out is to ask Apple. I have read of the paint chipping issue on the latch before, but I don't know if they would consider that a purely cosmetic issue or a defect in materials or workmanship. And it could even be that one Apple guy would say one thing and a different Apple guy would say something else. Sometimes persistence helps with this type of issue.
Good luck!

  • 115vac felt on my macbook pro case during charging

During charging of my new Macbook pro , a " tingle " is felt on the Macbook pro case. I am using a 3 prong power strip that has a ground led installed on the device and is "showing green" when plugged into the wall socket so I know the power strip is working properly. The power adapter for the Macbook pro is " two prong " device and has a " floating Ground " My XPS dell had the same problem and dell sent me a " 3 prong " power adapter which fixed the problem.
Please advise if Apple sells a " 3 prong adapter " to correct this issue.

No damage. When opening the computer to change memory cards it is recommended that you touch anything metal on the case to discharge any static on your body. Obviously Apple wouldn't recommend this if it was at all likely to cause damage. However, extraneous charges on the actual chips, circuitry, etc can cause damage. These are all insulated from the chassis itself and things such as HD casing.

    Bag n’ Tag It
    by: Digital Dude
In today’s world of everything slim and integrated, more techno fanatics and Spartan travelers are embracing the minimalist approach. To that end, I was looking for an alternative to my bulky computer briefcase for travel. So, I ordered the “Buzz” by Tom Bihn.
Initially, I was a bit skeptical since the price of the Buzz is rather high for a nylon bag in today’s crowded market. Fortunately, the folks at Tom Bihn have an excellent guarantee with great customer service. If you receive the bag, and it’s not what you expected, simply return it without having to request an authorization. Try that with any other bag manufacturer!
    Exterior:
My first impression after opening the box was that the Buzz is in fact, a very well made nylon sling-bag with attractive accents. The initial fit on the back and shoulder was comfortable, and the crossover strap is wide and it fits guys and gals without interference. It’s also nicely padded and has a large durable quick disconnect fastener below your left rib area. There is a smaller adjustable waist strap for a more secure and balanced fit. I found it wasn’t necessary for casual carry although quite useful when riding a bike or running to catch that flight.
    Interior:
The Buzz has two main compartments with waterproof zippers that don’t snag and they seal very well.
The main compartment houses a unique padded panel with a fitted corner, similar to a fitted bed sheet that stretches over one corner of the MacBook Pro. The space between the computer holder and the zippered panel provides room for a book, magazines, documents, or even a small travel neck pillow.
The second zippered compartment is on the very back and is slightly smaller or stepped down from the main compartment. It includes the usual key strap and some angled stitched pockets for pens, business cards and one larger pocket that can hold a Passport or airline tickets, etc.
The third compartment is on the exterior right side and is made of elastic material and is designed to hold a bottle, small umbrella or equivalent. It also has two pull straps to further secure its contents.
Finally, there is a super convenient compartment in the center of the crossover strap with a Velcro closure. This is my favorite feature, since it holds your cell, iPod or more notably, the new iPhone securely across your chest.
    Field Tests:
I harnessed the Buzz, adjusted the straps and wore it for a week in and around town. The Buzz and its sling design holds' the 15-inch MacBook Pro, cables, charger, etc. in a vertical orientation on the back. This permits full range of motion for both arms, unlike most soft-sided computer briefcases.
At times, I wanted to shift the load, so I simply reached around with my left hand and lifted up slightly on the bottom as I grabbed the ferry-loop (top strap) with my right hand. In this manner, you can easily adjust the tension on the crossover strap.
The Buzz shoulder bag is advertised as offering “moderate” protection, although it’s quite adequate for most common travel activities. However, I wanted to see if I could fit my MacBook Pro while stuffed in the Tucano “Second Skin” sleeve. To my delight, it fit nearly perfect as though it was made for “The Buzz”. This combination effectively increases the travel protection by at least 2:1.
    Wish List:
Accessory provisions or lack thereof, is a shortfall with many bag manufactures. User’s end up stuffing their charger, cables and adapters into secondary bags which all end up at the bottom, resulting in disorganized clutter. I visualize a removable fitted panel with separate compartments or straps that hold a basic array of typical computing items. In fact, I ended up using one of my luggage toiletry panels to help organize my computer gear in the Buzz. It holds everything vertically and eliminated the pile at the bottom.
After field-testing, I decided this bag was definitely a keeper’. However, I would prefer a tighter fit of the MacBook Pro or a matching sleeve. I would also favor a more contoured and softer crossover strap with an exterior I.D. card and pen/pencil slot. Since I’m dreaming here, how about a less abrasive backside for improved comfort.
    Conclusion:
The Buzz sling bag is a well-made, lightweight, ergonomic alternative to a backpack or the horizontal briefcase design. It holds most everything one might need for mobile computing while providing an excellent provision for Apple’s new iPhone.

    ~DD

How do I fix the power button on my MacBook Pro? Thanks to Apple,  if you accidentally hit the power button with Mavericks, your downloading, ripping, burning, saving and any other process will be halted without completing.  How do I fix this so this no longer happens?

  • Macbook Pro Case Very Flimsey

Recently I have noticed mysterious deformities to my macbook pro case. I have a 15" and in the 4 months that I have had it I have never dropped it but dents are started to appear in different places around the case. I always carry it in a case to protect it and I am very careful around so I have no idea what could be causing these dents and it is very frustrating. I was wondering if apple would be able to fix it or if they would be willing to exchange the computer because maybe its my particular case. Alright thanks for any help if you can provide it.

    Hey LongPole,
Are you using a laptop bag? One that has it's own padded compartment? That is really what you need. I wouldn't just put it in with books. Either buy a sleeve or a bag with a compartment.

  • 2008 MacBook pro Case Question

    Hello all,
I rececntly bought a late 2008 MacBook pro Pre Unibody model.. I love it.. it's by far the best laptop I've ever used or owned..
    Anyway
I like it so much, I am looking for a case for it, I cant seem to find any on Amazon though.. I know it's a slightly older model but..
Anyone Have any Ideas about where to find one?
    Thanks
    Cap10323

    Cap10323,
does a search for “17 inch macbook pro case” on Amazon return no products at all?

  • Dented MacBook Pro case and lid

The top right corner of the lid and bottom right corner of the base of the late 2008 macbook pro are slightly dented. I've had my Macbook Pro for about 3 weeks now and just got round to opening it last week and after further inspection this past week I've noticed today the lid and base has a small dent in it. Looking at the corners i can see clearly they're not rounded the same and the base corner is grazed and lighter colour of aluminum.
I've kept my mbp in the box for 3 weeks even this past week when ive been using it, its never been out the house and i've been working on it at my desk away from me damaging it. So I have received the product like this.
I rang up AppleCare and they said to take it to a local repair centre, which is 30 miles away, ill be going there on Monday.
Has anyone found any dents on their macbook pros?
I have AppleCare that I paid for at the time of the laptop purchase.
What will Apple do? Will they replace it? Since its dented..and the new casing technology...it'll be pretty difficult and time consuming to just replace the case dont you think ?
What do you think they do, and what normally happens in this situation anybody know?
How long do you think the repair will take?
I don't expect to pay the amount of money I have done for this for it to come with these problems. First day i opened it i noticed greasy finger prints and marks on keyboard, i used the cloth included to get rid of these, but just noticing this dent, its really annoyed me. My came straight from the factory I think, I ordered it the day they were released, about an hour after I recall and waited a couple of weeks for it to be delivered. Now this...
Thanks for any responses in advance.

I have a tiny pinhole dent on my late '08 Mac on the top of the lid in between the apple logo and the edge (also purchased near rls date). I'm not sure if it was there when I purchased, but I don't think so. However, I'm suffering from cognitive dissonance as I treat this think like a baby. It really aggravates me... I've tried to pop it out (rather miserably) with a suction cup to no avail. What recourse do you think I'd have with Apple. I'd definitely like to get it fixed. These new aluminum body macs are far too prone to denting, because if I caused the dent, it wansn't from any overt action... I haven't even taken the thing outside since I've had it... sits on a computer desk at all times. HELP, I must have OCD because it bugs me to look at!
I also think these books heat up way too much as my cpu hovers at near 80F (~78) when under full load, according to iStat, but that's another story.

  • Ecological MacBook Pro case?

    Hi there,
I'm a fan of organic / environmental bags and clothing, so naturally I want an organic bag for my MacBook Pro. There are some suppliers for generic laptop cases, e.g. nice bags made of hemp, but I was wondering whether anybody knew a bag that would fit a 15" MBP… haven't found anything in the Apple store.
The generic bags typically fit laptops up to 17", so might be a bit loose.
    thanks
    Hendrik

Well, from the lack of follow-up posts I conclude that ecological laptop bags are not a big market.
Anyway, I ended up buying an organic hemp laptop bag from sativabags: http://www.sativabags.com/onlinestore/hemp_multi_purpose_laptopbag.cfm
As expected it's not a tight fit for the MBP, but it's better than I thought. While the bag would fit two MBPs side by side, the width and height come close to perfect fit. One interesting feature is the magnetic buttons at the front, which remind a bit of the MagSafe technology. There's good padding and lots of space for cables, power bricks, iPods etc. The material looks good and feels nice. I think there are probably more lightweight materials, but I guess if you want to go for a eco-friendly option, you have to carry that small bit of extra weight. Otherwise, can't complain about anything so far really.
    cheers
    Hendrik

  • Macbook pro case splitting. Need opinions please!

So my laptop case has been splitting near the screen and it also seems to swell at random points. I have never dropped my laptop, I take great care with it as I need it for school. Last time I went to the apple store they told me it was a cosmetic issue and id have to pay around $800.00 to get it fixed. This time I decided to call the national apple line. They told me they think it should be taken care of, and that some one was being dis ingenious in the store (did I get screwed maybe because some one's boss told them to stop giving customers replacements? I have no idea). So Now I am taking this to the apple store tomorrow.. anyone have any similar experiences? What do you think I should argue? I think since I have a 3 year protection plan, I should get at least my entire case replaced, if not a refurbished macbook pro/ or an upgrade. As I was writing this, I can no longer close my macbook pro because than by opening it the bottom part of the screen cover pops out on the right side. Ugh.
    Opinions/help welcome

    Hi Olude,
I'd present the machine to them, explain exactly what you've stated here in this topic. You do not believe the product to be operating within specification and do not believe that it's condition was caused by accidental damage, rather as a defect in manufacturing and wish to have the repair covered by your Applecare protection.
The technician will evaluate the product and based upon what they see, and what they're trained to look for in determining coverage eligibility (by Apple) will then present you your options. This is where, you're on your own. No one here will be able to tell you what they'll say, why they'll say or what standards they use to come to their conclusion.
I personally don't feel comfortable making a stance in either favor, simply because I don't have the machine in front of me, I wasn't with you when the machine began to look like this and I'm no position to comment on Apple's policies and procedures on evaluating coverage on a product. Based on their response (the technician's) you're certainly justified if you want a second opinion, especially if their answer is not to your satisfaction.
From my experience, I've always been treated with courtesy, respect and appreciation when dealing with members of my local Apple Retail Store. But I've also had them tell me bad news, deny coverage on a product and charge me for repairs when I believed otherwise. Regardless, though, I was always pleased with the way they've handled me and my business. So I hope that the same appreciation is had by you at the conclusion of this experience.

  • My songs on iTunes will play but no other buttons work? Macbook Pro 17''

    Hello all,
I couldn't find any previous posts having to do with my problem. Basically, I have a Macbook Pro 17'' and when I have iTunes open, the buttons on iTunes I can press but then nothing happens. It still lets me hit play, next, etc. but for example when I click "iTunes Store" it does nothing. It also says that my phone is still connected, though it is not, and when I click eject once again it does nothing. If anyone knows a solution, please let me know. I've restarted my computer and tried quitting iTunes, but when i click "quit" on iTunes it once again does not listen to me. It's as if this program has decided it doesn't want to listen to me! All other things on my computer work fine.

OPPS!!  Figured it out still had second monitor cord in, and thus was it displaying on the monitor that wasn't on.  Duh

  • Fixing MacBook Pro Case

I had to replace my hard drive recently on my MacBook Pro.
It's a first gen with the 1.8ghz Intel Core Duo so it's well past it's warranty so I figured I'd do it myself.
Replacing the hard drive and taking the case apart was easy.
But now when I put it togther it does not fit perfectly.
Is there any special glue or anything that I can use to make the front right
under where the mouse button fit nice and flush like it did prior to me taking it apart
or would I have to buy a new case??

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Here are the replacement top & bottom case parts: http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts/MacBook-Pro-15%22-Model-A1150#0-Case+Components
    $299 + $199-$239 = $498 - $538
Here is a buy it now on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-MacBook-Pro-A1150-15-1-83G-320G-1-5G-Works-/2608087227 68?pt=Apple_Laptops&hash=item3cb9694950
    = $339
So as any Aussie can attest, mathematically it is cheaper to buy an entirely new unit for $339, even if you used it for parts, than to spend between $498 - $538 just for the parts.
Did not mean to offend you.

  • Screen messed up after opening MacBook Pro

    Hi all,
Occasionaly when I open up my MacBook Pro to resume my session the screen is all garbled up like in the following photo.
The only thing I can do to fix this is power off the laptop by holding the power button and waiting a few sec before restarting it again. After restarting everything works fine.
Has anyone else been having problems like this or know what's causing it?
    Thanks in advance
    Kris

I would recommend taking that in to a service provider.  It may be a software issue but it is likely an issue with the graphics card which will require a main logic board replacement

  • MacBook Pro Case

After owning iPhones, iPads and Minis for several years, I finally broke down and ordered a MacBook Pro.  However, I would like to get a case to protect it when I am using it.  I do like the personalization the hard cases provide, but I have read many reviews that say most don't last 12 months.  Are there any recommendations?

I use these for a 15-inch and 13-in rMBP and a 13-in MBP. Hardshell cases seem to break at edges and stress points. I have both Black and White.
The colors are definitely limited. I wrote to Tech21 for additional colors and they said they would consider it based on other requests.
You can try different brands within their respective return window to get a better feel before you choose.
