Button to toggle between display energy saver modes?

Normally I keep my System Preferences: Energy Saver option set to put my G4 iBook display to sleep after one minute, to save the screen's life expectancy.
However, I have some applications that don't work with that setting-- so when I use those apps, I have got to the Apple: System Preferences: Energy Saver option and drag the bar over to where the display is Never put to sleep.
Then when I'm done with the app, I have to do it all over again to reset putting the display to sleep after 1 minute.
Is there some kind of macro or script to get where I can press a button and toggle betwee these 2 power save modes?
Thanks

Hi Christopher!
Axl's suggestion is an excellent one!
The procedure is explained, with a bit more detail, HERE.
Quote:
"Not really a shortcut, but this method, will enable you to quickly access the Energy Saver pref pane.
Open System Preferences.
From the Toolbar's System Preferences contextual menu, select Hide System Preferences.
System Preferences is still loaded, as you can see the black triangle under the Dock Icon.
If you position the cursor on that, and hold down on the mouse, a hierarchal menu will appear.
From that you can navigate to any Preference Pane in SP.
When you have finished with the Pane, select Hide System Preferences once again.
You just have to remember to Hide rather than close SP."
Good Luck!

  • My McPro only turns  off the screen in standy by (energy save mode)

My MacPro doesn’t go to standby (energy save mode) the only one what he does is to turn of the monitor. No any devices connected only the keyboard and mouse and of course a monitor.
I would be appreciated for any help.

Do you have any PCI cards installed, such as RAID or Fiber Channel?
Enable power button sleep (Options button in Energy Saver system preference), unplug ALL USB devices (including the keyboard and mouse) and the display, then press the power button (just a quick press). Does it sleep (power light pulsating)?

  • PLMD_AUDIT - Toggle between Display and Change - Important!!

    Hello all,
    I've a problem when I work on PLMD_AUDIT.
    Pre-requisite for replicating the issue.
1> Change the settings in PLMD_AUDIT (a face like icon) to Display mode
When I run PLMD_AUDIT for an Audit with Action, it displays me the "Grouping" field and the "Involved Persons" tab values correctly.
But when I toggle from Display to Change, the value in "Grouping" and the "Involved Persons" tab vanishes.
Can you please check in your system and let me know if you also face this issue?
    Thank you in advance,
    Vaishnavi

    Hello Keerthi,
    Thanks for your reply.
Please follow the below mentioned steps.
    1) Change your time zone to a different time zone other than the created time zone of the action.
say if action has been created in London time zone, change system zone to some other than London.
    2) Change the Settings in PLMD_AUDIT tcode (face like icon) to Display
    3) Open any audit WITH ACTION.
    4) When you double click on Action inside the audit, the action will be opened in Display mode.
    5) Now toggle between Display and Change.
    6) Kindly check if the values in the "Grouping field" and BUPA roles in "Involved Persons" tab are present now after toggling?
Please let me know at the earliest.
Your assistance is highly appreciated in this regard.
    Thanks in advance,

  • MBP 2011, Screen Brightness in Energy Saver mode issue?

    hi,
got a new 2011 MBP 17', setup dim in energy saver mode & plugged in an external DVI monitor via Thunderbolt port.  energy mode dims & blanks LCD but the external screen does not.  It does however then turn off and lock when display sleep is reached.
anyone any ideas if this is just a "feature of the new port" that we need to ask apple about or have i missed something?
FYI,  energy saver pref screen pops up only on 1 screen.  displays pref pops up on both but currently only the MBP LCD screen has a brightness and auto adj settings.  external screen just has resolutions & refresh rate options.
    thanks,
    Simon.

Nope - on my wife's MB (i.e. 13" MacBook, unibody/late 2008), there's no 'custom setting' or 'Details' when clicking on the menu bar battery icon. There is a shortcut to the Energy Saver preference pane, but no option to control brightness in that preference pane other than the checkbox I mentioned above. You can set timers for display sleep, etc., of course.
So, what I see on my MBP, what I see on my wife's MB, and what you're seeing on your MBP seem to be the same. If you have access to a MacBook, check again - if you find the setting your thinking of, post a screenshot...

  • My phone automatically toggles between silent and ringer mode. How to fix ?

my phone automatically toggles between silent and ringer mode. How to fix ?

    Hey there Sam1011,
It sounds like you are not flipping the side switch but the phone keeps muting and unmuting by itself.
I would start by toggling the side switch manually to mute, then unmute. Then evaluate it for a bit. If the issue persists, reset the phone with this article and test the issue.

If your device stops responding, you can reset it by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
If the issue persists I would next backup your phone to iTunes and then restore it:

  • Computer won't sleep on Energy Saver mode

All of a sudden, the computer will not sleep while on Energy Saver mode. Any ideas on how to locate the culprit?
    Thanks!

Hi, seb29. One possible culprit is a fax software setting: if the computer is set up to receive faxes, it either won't sleep at all or won't stay asleep for long. In the Print & Fax pane of System Prefs, click the Faxing tab and make sure "Receive faxes on this computer" is not checked.

My AppleTV keeps dimming as if it is in energy saving mode.  My TV and DVD/Netflix player do not do this.  How do I disable the energy saver feature in AppleTV?  BTW:  This is my second AppleTV device so it does not appear to be a product defect.

I keep seeing versions of this same question, and it's always the same answer: it's the TV. Well, it happens to me as well. But it only happens when viewing programming via Apple TV. My cable is totally fine: no dimming. Only with Apple TV. So what's the answer?

  • Removing "Shutting down" dialog box in Energy Saver mode?

I've got an iMac using 10.4.11 running as a kiosk to play a DVD in an exhibit we have. Using the energy saver panel I can set it to start up and shut down at appropriate times. But about 5 minutes prior to shutting down there is a dialog box that pops up saying "This computer is scheduled to shut down in X minutes." It has the radio buttons to "shut down now" or "cancel," but is there anyway to remove the warning entirely? Since I've already scheduled it to shut down I don't want it to tell me it's doing what I told it do do and the box covers the screen while it's running.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
    Patrick

You might be able to schedule an Applescript via iCal to do the shutdown.
There's a possible Applescript listed here:
    http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/forums/viewthread/3605/#36954
and some advice about using iCal for running scripts here:
    http://www.hawkwings.net/2005/12/09/make-an-ical-event-run-an-applescript/
I'm not very familiar with this sort of thing, and I don't know if it would work.

  • Will Not Sleep In Energy Saver Mode

My iMac G5 20" 1.8Ghz will not sleep when I set it to sleep in the energy saver panel. This just started for no specific reason a few months ago. It will sleep fine when selected from the Apple menu. I have been through the discussions and no one seems to have a good fix for this. I have repaired permissions, reset the PRAM and SMU, and tried all the different configurations in energy saver. I called AppleCare and they seemed not to know anything about this issue. They recommened an archive and reinstall of the operating system. I feel this is kind of drastic for this and I have not yet tried it unless I can see that other people have done it and it works. My computer is in the repair program for the power supply problem and it has an updated power supply since the original actually smoked and Apple replaced it. I was wondering if anyone out there has had this same sleep issue and got it resolved?

Well I finally decided to try and delete an application that I suspected could be a problem not allowing my computer to sleep automatically. That application is LAST FM a music service from the UK which is actually quite good. I suspected it was a problem since it would always launch when I opened iTunes and asked if I wanted to share my iTunes library with the LAST FM group which I did not. I selected I did not want to share in the LAST FM preferences but it still opened anyway when I launched iTunes. I deleted the program and repaired disk permissions and *It Worked*, my computer will now go to sleep with the settings I selected in energy saver. I know there are other people out there with this problem I would first look at this application and others that are probably running in the backround causing your computer not to sleep automatically. I am a firm believer in trying to work up from the easiest solution before taking the drastic approach, such as a system reinstall, or a logic board replacement. I did take Nikki's suggestion seriously. My power supply had been replaced in the repair program and my logic board did not meet the criteria for replacement since it was not exibiting the symptoms that required its replacement such as video and power problems.

  • Does iPad Air have a sleep/energy saver mode?

    Hello~
I just bought this iPad (first one) and can't find anything about a "sleep" or "battery saver" mode.  I don't want to turn it off, but I don't need it sitting there glowing.  Plus, can't that hurt the screen?
    Thanks!
       Jenny

OMG.  I feel like an idiot.  I've looked everywhere, but for some reason never opened that menu item.  THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!  You ROCK!!!!

  • Display Power Saver Mode Flicker (FIX)

If you guys have the following problem:
    1. Screen goes on dim either due to power saving or due to low light
    2. After a couple of seconds it starts to flicker
I got this fix from Apple support that seems to have solved the problem:
    1. Shutdown.
    2. Press commandoption+pr together and then press the power button (release the power button, but keep the other four keys pressed).
    3. Keep the keys pressed until it gives you two chimes.
    4. This it seems resets the bus parameter for the display driver.
    Hope this helps for you.

It's not an issue that needs fixing, it is normal behaviour for the N78 and in line with it's predecessor the N73.
On some models the display blanks completely to save battery power. The N78 and N73 both act in this way that is why those two models have blinking lights to show that they are on. Most models are made using different chipsets and don't go totally blank and display the time instead.
Personally I prefer phones that go totally blank with a blinking LED than those that display the time.
On the N78 all it takes is a short press of the power button to light the screen to see the clock when the keys are locked or any key when they aren't.

  • How to create a 3-state button (similar look as OK button) that toggles between 3 different colors.

How do I create a 3-state button that looks similar to the OK button except it changes to 3 different colors every time it is pressed. Does anyone have such a control ready for use that I can just drop in my front panel?

With a picture ring you can implement a 3 color button without any code. Look at the attached customized control.
I have imported the picture of a boolean in three different items and
colored them. I centered the text and hide/made transparent uneeded
graphic elements. I set the size of the decrement arrow to cover all
the picture and made it transparent so when you click on the control
you decrement the value of the ring and change the picture/color
Edit: you'll notice that the picture is not fullt covered by the
decrement arrow so if you click near the bottom of the button, the
picture ring will show its normal behavior displaying all 3 available
    items

  • Dual Display Energy Saver/One at a time

I'm interested to know if there is any way to enable the display sleep so that it effects a dual monitor setup individually, ie. one monitor is awake, while the other one goes to sleep.
Any ideas? I didn't see anything in the System Preferences that enables this. Perhaps an external app?
    Thanks

Sorry, I know bumping is frowned upon, but I have yet to find a solution for this, and this thread disapearred into the obscurity of the double-gigit pages very, very quickly.
