Buttons in Adobe Acrobat XI - can't assign menu actions

I need to add actions to buttons on a pdf.  I have Acrobat Professional XI (on Windows XP - although we are migrating to Win7/8 shortly).  I used to be able to add actions by using Button Properties and then 'execute a menu item' - but when I click 'add' I can't see any menu items to add (they are not available in the box).  I used to be able to do this with the previous version of Adobe Acrobat. Is it still possible via another route perhaps?

It should still be possible... What exact version of Acrobat do you have?
Another route is to use a script, but it should be possible to do it directly using the "Execute a menu item" command.

  • How I can access "Convert Colors..." button in Adobe Acrobat XI using applescript, or add this button to menu bar?

Hi, I'm writing applescript to automate Adobe Acrobat XI, I'm missing only one line of code - opening dialog window of "Convert Colors..." tool. It was easy in Acrobat 9 but some reason it's complicated in Acrobat XI.
Is there an option to add "Convert Colors..." as menu item into menu bar?

Thanks Gilad D. I created JS file with simple code
    app.addMenuItem({cName:"Convert Colors", cParent:"View", cExec:'app.execMenuItem("ColorConversionMenuItem");'});
and I added it into acrobat (USER/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/JavaScripts/).
I enabled menu items JavaScript execution privileges in Acrobat Preferences.
Now I can open "Convert Colors" from main menu bar, and create applescript which do the same.

  • Chrome - Adobe-Acrobat/Reader can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser.

I can't view PDF files via Chrome (it works on Internet Explorer but I prefer Chrome)  -  the error below has arisen recently on Chrome, though I can't see what has changed.
    "Acrobat plug-in
The Adobe-Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit  Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again."
I have looked through Forum articles on similar errors and have tried the following(text copied from other Forum entries)
    Repair Adobe Acrobat (from Acrobat)
Repair Adobe Acrobat (from Control Panel
Configure Acrobat  as a helper application: Choose Edit > Preferences., Select Internet on the left., Deselect Display PDF In Browser Using [Acrobat application], and then click OK.Quit Acrobat or Reader
Create a registry item for Acrobat: with Regedit: If the registry item doesn't exist on the system, do the following: Go to Edit > New > Key and create the missing HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Adobe\Acrobat\Exe.Go to Edit > New > String Value and name this key (Default).Select (Default), and then go to Edit > Modify. Type the Adobe Acrobat path in the "Value data" for your product.,restart your computer
Repair the HKCR\AcroExch.Document registry key: Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AcroExch.Document., Right-click AcroExch.Document and select Delete; make sure that you have the correct key, and click Yes on any prompts, Right-click AcroExch.Document.7 and select Delete; make sure that you have the correct key, and click Yes on any prompts. Repair your Acrobat  installation
None has solved the problem. However it still works ok with IE. But I want to stick with Chrome because I find IE is so slow!
I am using Vista, with Adobe Acrobat standard 9.5.2 and Google Chrome version 23.0.1271.64 m which is marked on Chrome as 'up to date'
Does anyone know why I might be getting this error on Chrome but not IE?

I think I have discovered the answer to my own question!
I have disabled Adobe Reader plug-in, and can now see PDFs in Chrome.
(Steps: Chrome Menu, Settings option, Click Advanced Settings link, then Content Settings button, then select Disable Individual Plug-Ins, and a list of plug-ins is offered to enable or disable).
I then get a different result depending on whether or not Chrome PDF viewer is enabled - with it enabled I see the PDF document in Chrome, or with it disabled then the option is offered to download it, but either way I can get it it via Chrome without having to run Internet explorer in another browser window.

  • USING FORM BUTTONS IN ADOBE ACROBAT/READER

Hello, I am using Adobe Acrobat Std XI to create a form that Adobe Readers will be filling in.  Everything works in the form except for the button I inserted to allow the user to reset/clear the form. The button works fine in Acrobat but it is no working in Reader.  I have tried saving the file as Reader Extended version, I have tried the file protected and not protected and I cannot get the button to work in Reader. Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong or is this simply because I'm working with Acrobat XI Standard and not Pro?
    Thank you.

Hopefully the above link will work for you.  I just tested it and it seems to work fine.  The reset button is on the second page of the form.
Thank you both, I really appreciate your time and help with this.

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 can't make pdf files in 2003 Word

    Hello, Can you help me?
I purchased Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro four years ago when I went onto Windows 7 as I needed the 64 bit version. Prior to this I had Adobe Acrobat 7.
Recently I have been unable to make PDF files in Word although it is working in all the other Word applications and through the HP scanner.
It also won’t make PDF files through the Adobe programme and comes up with the message “Missing PDF files”and the repair command fails to save the problem.
I am using Word 2003 but prior to now the programme has worked without a problem.
Can you tell me how to solve the problem as I need the facility as I manage numerous websites for different charities.
My serial number is 1118-1780-5717-0649-5947-1289 and I am reluctant to unload the programme incase I can’t reload it.
I have tried to load Acrobat 7 onto my laptop which still has Windows Vista on it.  The serial number for this is 1016-1284-2194-6099-0208-1387 but it refuses to activate this.  Can you advise me on this ?
    I am desperate..
    Many thanks, Sheila

  • In Adobe Acrobat X, can you save a PDF to a temp file and forward the email back out?

    I'm running windows 7 Professional x64
    Adobe Acrobat X Professional
    Microsoft Office 2010 professional
While  using Adobe Acrobat 9 with Office 2007, I have a user that was previously able to receive a PDF in Outlook, sign it, save it to the temp files, then forward the original email to a different user with my signature and changes saved within the PDF.  Now that I have upgraded to Acrobat X and Office 2010, that capability is no longer available, but I can complete the aforementioned process when using Microsoft Excel.
Is there a way to do this with Adobe X and Office 2010, or was that capability removed with the upgrade to one of the 2 software packages?
The error that I get when signing a document is:
    document_name.pdf
This file is set to read-only.
Try again with a different file name

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro can't handle time zones?

I normally work in Texas, but at the moment I am in San Francisco. I have updated the time zone on my Mac OS X 10.6.4 system accordingly. When I attempt to certify a PDF using Acrobat Pro 9.3.3, my digital signature (that I just created on the PDF) is considered invalid by Adobe Acrobat because it "appears to be in the future."
As best as I can explain it, here's what appears to be happening:
My computer is set to Pacific Time Zone. It's 11:44 AM PDT
    I digitally certify a PDF.
The Signature Properties say the date of signature is 2010/07/28 13:44:36 -05'00'.
The timestamp included with the signature is dated 2010/07/28 13:44:36 -05'00'
For some reason, Acrobat Pro thinks that the signature is invalid because it appears to be in the future. Why
isn't Acrobat Pro smart enough to handle time zones?
I'm uncertain as to how this error could be occurring. I am using a timestamp server (http://tsa.starfieldtech.com) to timestamp my digital signature. There doesn't appear to be any preference in Acrobat for time zone support, so it must be determining the local time from the system clock, but without the context of timezone.

    Hi Sasha,
Was Acrobat running when you reset the system time? If so the original system time (in reality the GMT offset) was loaded into memory at launch and didn't get reset when you modified the System Preference. Acrobat should be able to pick up the new GMT offset, see you are at -7:00 (PDT) and make the changes accordingly.
As you might have noticed, when it comes to digital signatures, all of the times are in "Generalized Time Format". A lot of people mistake this for "European Time" because the month doesn't come first, but this is an ISO standard where the time starts with the year.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader (can't open without saving document)

    hi guys,
why is it that on my computer, when i download or open a link to a .PDF file, i have the options to either OPEN, SAVE, or CANCEL right from there. there is no need to save it to a location before i can open it...i can just open it. but on another computer i use, it only gives me the options to SAVE, or CANCEL...no open option... i must save it and then open it. it's really annoying.
it is the same version of adobe acrobat reader and i even uninstalled her version and reinstalled it again hoping that it would fix the problem. is there a patch for Internet Explorer that is causing the issue (we are both using windows XP home, IE 6). anyone have any ideas?

i was also given the Knowledge Base number 405461 from adobe, and they said that this would definitely fix the problem...AND IT DIDN'T :-(
    see kb405461
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/view...nalId=kb405461
and just to let everyone know, i have already completely uninstalled adobe reader and reinstalled it several times thinking that fresh install would cure the problem, and it hasn't made a bit of difference. the version of reader doesn't matter either, as i've tried versions 7, 8 and 9... all with the same exact issue...which makes me think that it might be an issue with MS IE6.

  • Custom Toolbar button in Adobe Acrobat Reader

    Hello Everyone,
I need to add a custom toolbar button in Adobe Reader using C# 2.0 and performed some custom tasks by clicking on this button.
Could anyone guide me, how to add a custom toolbar button in Adobe Reader application?
PS: I have create a Shared Addin for adding Custom Toolbar for office applications but have no idea how to start for Adobe Reader application.
Your instant reply will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Best Regards,
    Malik Irfan

I'm ok with just using Javascript to make the toolbar button, instead of C/C++.
I assume you mean by your second point that I actually have to own Acrobat professional, which I do.
I tried looking at the documentation, but it keeps crashing my browser.
However, from my experience with all other Adobe products (Studio MX, Authorware, etc), I do not expect a detailed walkthrough from start to finish, with pictures saying "click here" and such.  Does this help manual actually contain this sort of thing?
I really appreciate the fast replies!

  • Adobe Acrobat XI can not be reinstalled because it says Up to date.

Download manager says adobe pro 'uptodate' but abode pro not installed ... had to uninstall earlier.
want to reinstall ... how do I do it?
    Mac 10.6.8

    OK fixed!
    went to >library
    >Application support
    >adobe
    >uninstallers
there was a acrobat uninstaller still here, double clicked and it went through the uninstall process via application manager.
Once complete application manager recognised that Acrobat 11 can be downloaded and I did so.
