Buttons in Fireworks - Studio 8
This may be basic, I am not sure.
I need to copy a button I have designed with all the over states and I want the copy to be editable with different text.
Every time I copy a button, when I edit the text, the text in the original button changes also.
I would appreciate the help. As I mentioned, I can't figure it out. When I clone button the same thing happens also.

Once you have created your button artwork and have converted it to a button symbol, double click on it to open it in symbol editing mode. Type your text, and then click on the left pointing arrow icon at the top of the document window to exit symbol editing mode. Drag an instance (copy) of your botton symbol from the Document Library to the canvas. Click on the green slice guide over the new instance and the text will appear in the Text box of the Property inspector. Double click in the text box to highlight the text, and then type over it to change it.
This method enables you to update the text of each instance without affecting the text of the other instances.

ThanksIn my experience, the code created by graphics apps is less than satisfactory. And image based menus are very awkward for several reasons.
#1 If you decide to change your menu later, you must go back to your graphics app and re-craft the whole thing. After 2-3 times of this, it gets old in a hurry.
#2 Image based menus cannot be "seen" by search engines, screen readers and language translators.
#3 CSS styled text menus are better for your site's visibility, accessibility and they are a snap to edit in Dreamweaver.
That said, if you're still married to image based menus, use Fireworks to create images only. Use Dreamweaver's Image Rollover Behaviors to create your rollover scripts.

Livetype titles as buttons for DVD Studio Pro 4
made a title in Live Type that I want to use a button in DVD Studio Pro 4. Is there a tutorial, or can anyone tell me exactly what I have to do to import it and make it a button in DVDSP 4? When I try to import it and drop it on a menu, the button is small but the surrounding button box is big. When I try and make the letters bigger, the button box gets bigger as well.
All I want is to make just the letters bigger and not the whole surrounding box.
Please help.

No one posted because you can easily find the answer yourself in the DVDSP manual. Creating buttons for DVD menus is a complex operation if you want it to be. LiveType by itself is not appropriate for the task. LT will create some embelishments and animated fluff that you can use to augment the buttons you make in DVDSP. Scaling imported assets is covered extensively, if undecipherably, in the DVDSP manual.

I can't add buttons at DVD Studio Pro.
The function to create buttons at DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 is not working.
I already used this function but now it stopped working. I reinstalled Final Cut Studio 2, but nothing changed.
Can anybody help me??Here are some steps to take to see if something is wrong with your DVD SP:
1. Launch DVD SP. A new project will open with one menu and one track.
2. Double-click the menu icon in the graphical display at the left of the screen. The menu will open in the Viewer with its default name: "Menu 1" at the top of the viewer. The Active tab at the top of the viewer should be: "Menu". Of course, with no background image the menu will be black.
3. With the mouse pointer over the black menu in the Viewer, press and hold down the mouse button and drag.
4. You should see a rectangle with little circles appear. When it is the size of a postage stamp release the mouse button.
5. On your right, in the Inspector, you should see the default name of the button: "Button 1".

Have you tried to connect this instance from another machine using SQL Server Management Studio?

Radio Buttons in Design Studio
Hi Experts,
Am new to Design Studio, I am middle of creating dashboard. here i have to use radio button which shows Value and Quantity. where as if i select value as a radio button then my dash board should show only respective Graph and Cross Tab in case if the user selects Quantity then Quanity related Graph and Cross Tab should show . Kindly help me with guide lines.

Import a Button from Fireworks
I have education versions of Dreamweaver 8 and Fireworks 8. I
create a button with 3 states in Fireworks and export HTML to
Dreamweaver. I then user the Common import to put the Fireworks
HTML in to the Dreamweaver page at the cursor location. The HTML
script looks ok and the images are all in the right places, paths,
but the image does not appear on the page.
Any clues please?i have. the problem i run into every time i change the code,
it asks for something more.

Hi, im not exactly new to fireworks but ive never really
explored it. I made a few buttons, then converted them to
symbols>buttons then went through the process of making the up
and down images. However when i export to html the buttons (and the
links i put on them) just dont work, it just displays my complete
image. At first i thought it might be that i need to add behaviours
manually but it wasnt that. anyone got any ideas? im sure you all

EyeTV markers as menu buttons in DVD Studio Pro?
As I am still pondering on buying or not DVD Studio Pro, I would like to know, whether the markers that I can apply to EyeTV recordings are maintained when I export the mpeg2 program stream for further use in DVD Studio Pro. When I export for Toast Titanium, Toast creates image menu buttons, but I cannot add any title or text to the button.

Next button problems DVD studio pro
I'm having a problem with navigation on a project, specifically the next button navigation.
I have a dual layer disc with 7 20 minute shows. Track 1 = show 1, etc. Play All button leads to Track 1. End jump of Track 1 is set to Track 2 and so on until the last show the end jump is set back to menu 1. Each track has 4 chapter markers.If I just sit back and let it play through it plays perfectly (on disc and simulator). When I hit the next button in the simulator it advances to the next chapter as it should except that at the last chapter marker for each track it does not advance, instead playing through a 12 second credit sequence before jumping to the next track. However when I burn the DVD and hit next at the last chapter marker it goes back to the beginning of that individual show, I can then hit next to go through the chapters again, and the second time through it will jump to the next track on the disc as it should. This happens for every track.
Similar problem for Menu 2, buttons for individual shows lead to Stories for each track with the end jump going back to Menu 2. It works fine if I just let it play through. However when navigating with the next button it plays as above in the simulator (does not skip credits) but then goes back to Menu 2. On disc however it will either jump back to the beginning of the same track or to a different track, sometimes sequential, sometimes not.
Seems like I'm missing something simple but I've been through the manual and searched through the inspector for any kind of controls and can't find anything that applies. Anybody have any idea what area I should be looking in? I suppose one answer would be to burn everything as one single track and then do stories for the individual shows, but is there away to make this work?
This is my first dual layer disc, don't know if that is causing issues. Jump point is set manually 4.2G into the project, OTO, not seamless, at a black spot in show 5. It seems to be working fine, don't know if this has anything to do with the navigation problems.
Thanks allI'd put all 7 onto 1 track. Then use stories to build the disc. Way less complicated and easier for you (and the DVD player) to know what is going on.
This way you can set it where Story 1 Plays just the first Show and then goes back to the menu. The way you are trying to set it up now it would play the next show automatically (you may want it to do this, I don't know) but with stories you can have each show play and the go back to the menu (or continue playing the next one). Then on your play all button you point to a story that includes everything. (Or just point it to the 1 track that has everything on it already) -
Making Play button in DVD Studio Pro
So here's another question for you guys. All of my wisdom is learned here at the Apple Discussions boards...
I am just trying to create a basic video in DVD SP. I have created the track and a menu page. On that menu page I also created a button. In my connections, I've set that menu 1 be my first play and that menu1:button 1 jump when activated to Track 1. when I go to the simulator, the menu appears on screen but when I press play the track is not there. Is there a step I am missing?

MarlenaMaybe a silly question, but are you sure your track has video and audio dropped into it?
Also if you set chapter markers in your track, did you jump just to the track or to a chapter marker in the track--perhaps the last chapter marker in that case?
Also, are you pressing play or the return(dimond or oval button between arrows on the remote) if you are pressing play, check under the ....um...advanced tab, i think, you can set remote functions for all menus and tracks make sure you have what you need enabled on that menu. I believe the default is eerything enabled, but I can't remember.

No, it isn't possible to do it even with a script.
Your only choices are to add the transition as a piece of video to a track and go from the menu to the track and then on to your main feature, or to add it as the background to another menu and go from menu1 to menu2 and then on to the track automatically.
You will get pauses in playback if you do this, but you can avoid them if you add the transition footage to the same track as your main feature, immediately before the feature plays. This will give you the same effect as a transition with audio. -
Help button question Applescript Studio
Hi everyone!
My help menu works just fine but to get my help button on the main window to work I set the default app for my file to Help Viewer. Then I script the open file command in Finder to open the file which is in my app bundle. It works fine and I was never able to get the cocoa command to open the help file to work with my button. My question is though I just realized that if I would click the help button multiple times it would open multiple windows of the same file in Help Viewer. That doesn't seem to be cool as I would hope it would realize the file is already open and not open the same file again? Any thoughts on how I can resolve this?

You don't say whether or not you changed the normal setup for the Help menu item to make it work "just fine"... Typically the help menu item has a connection in Interface Builder to the First Responder's showHelp: method. Assuming you did not change this, and this is what is working fine, then there's no reason that you can't also set up your help button to work in the same way (no AppleScript code would be needed).
In Interface Builder...
- First turn off the "on clicked" action for your help button in the AppleScript pane of the Inspector window (so clicking the button doesn't trigger any AppleScript code).
- Then select your help button and <Control>-drag from the help button to the "First Responder" icon in the "MainMenu.nib" window. As you're dragging you'll see a blue line following the mouse.
- Release the mouse button once the line goes from your button to the First Responder and you see a blue square surrounding the "First Responder" icon. This will cause the "Target/Action" pane to open in IB's Inspector window and you will see a long list of "Actions for First Responder".
- Scroll down and highlight the "showHelp:" method then click the "Connect" button. A little circle will appear next to the "showHelp:" item indicating the connection has been made.
- Save your nib file and rebuild your app.
Now when you click on your help button it will do a Cocoa call to the First Responder's showHelp: method allowing it to work just like the help menu item.

Is there a better way to create motion menus buttons in DVD Studio 4.2.2?

I have been creating my motion menu videos for DSP templates in FCP or iMovie. Is there an easier way for DSP to recognize my chapter markers and automatically do this like iDVD?

NBKA slightly quicker way to do what you described for an images is to select 'Duplicate version' instead of 'New version from Master' and then 'Remove adjustments' from version 1. This will leave you with the first version as the 'before' and the second version as the 'after' without having to use L&S.
If you need to do this for 108 images, it might be quicker to do the following:
Export Masters for all 108 images.
Reimport these into a new project (called 'before', for example)
You will then have a new project with the 'before' images and your original project with the 'after' images. You could then build an album to group all of these together. When you've finished with the 'before' & 'after' images (build your web gallery or emailed them or whatever), simply delete the 'before' project.

Having problems getting my fireworks made button to work in Adobe Dreamweaver CS6
Hello, I am currently using a trial version of Adobe CS6 Fireworks and Dreamweaver and I am wondering why my button that I have created with an up, an over and a down state is not working in dreamweaver properly...when I preview my button in Fireworks all is in order and it works fine but when I click copy Fireworks Html of the button, when I paste it into dreamweaver and preview it, dreamweaver doesen't seem to show the over or down states...any help would be much appreciated.
When you created animated buttons in Fireworks and exported/imported them into Dreamweaver CS3, CS5 all worked well.
This is because CS3 and CS5 automatically added the required preload JavaScript to the hed tag of the document.
In CS6, this is not happening!
That is the major reason that your buttons do not work if you are used to doing it the way that we have for years.
As a test, I added the Head tag code that the old versions of CS generated in Dreamweaver and immediately my buttons worked.
It must be a program error in CS6 and I wonder if Adobe will be producing a fix for this?
