Buttons in imagen in a 'over state'

hello!
i'm trying to make a few buttons on my menu. i have a menu that is a clip and is always playing and i want some areas of the video clip to works as buttons. what i want for the buttons is that when the mouse is over it to appear an image on top of the video clip and when i clip it to go to another track. i want the buttons to work like in flash, to have an 'over state' and when i'm over it i can see an image with the name of the film i want to see, and that with all the other buttons.
i don't know if i made myself clear, but i would like to know if that is possible in dvd studio pro because it seems a very simple thing to do like in flash.
thanks

One thing to keep in mind is DVDs are not Director/Flash.
To do what you want is not easy, nor will it be the same as effect as Director/Flash. One approach is to make the entire background a movie than make an overlay for the buttons. The buttons themselves will not be full color, but mapping 4 colors. There is the normal, selected and activated states.
This is a mapping example

There are other ways to try to fake the effect, but none would be what I think you are describing

  • Over State and actions not working with buttons in Flash cs4

    Hi - I am working on a Flash file and some of the buttons in the document are not working.When I test the movie the hand cursor appears when I hover over the buttons they don't change colour (as specified in the over state) and the actions don't work. Not sure what is going on here as I created other buttons in the same document the same way and they work fine. Thanks in advance.

    If you remove the code from the buttons do they react properly to a mouse over interaction?
    What is the code that is in place?

  • Retain button over state with Pop-up Menu

    Hi,
    I am trying to work out how to retain button over state while
    scrolling over a pop-up menu. By default the button changes back to
    mouse out state, when scrolling over menu items for that button.
    I have tried to follow the advice in the below technote (see
    link below), but it seems the instructions are incorrect.
    I am using Fireworks 8 - it appears the instructions are for
    a prior version. I cannot find function fwLoadMenus() mentioned in
    Step 3 (number 6.).
    Has anyone accomplished this in Fireworks 8, that could
    provide me with instructions?
    Thanks in advance,
    turpya.

  • Can you put multiple links over the same button and have it still change states?

    I have a photoshop button that changes from an active state ('TRAVEL' in a box) to a rollover state ('JAPAN, PHILIPINNES, KOREA, INDIA' in a gridded box). The 4 location names should be linked to seperate galleries. I want to find a way to do that. I tried placing clear rectangles over the areas, and then linking the rectangles, but it prevents the rollover state from being activated. Is there a way to do this?

    You should be able to do what you want with the Tooltip Composition Widget.

  • Button "Over" State Not Working Within Visible MovieClip

    Hi Folks,
    My button states aren't working right, and I'm pulling my hair out:
    http://www.miklas.org/test/test.htm
    The desired behavior is under the "Design..."  button--notice how when you mouseover the "Our Philosophy" link it turns blue? Why isn't  this happening for the "What We Can Do For You" and "Our Process" buttons in the other movieclips?
    The document is structured as follows:
    MovieClip 1: Design: Your Silent Salesperson
    ---Text
    ---Images
    ---Button: Our Philosophy
    MovieClip 2: Who Owns Your Brand
    ---Text
    ---Images
    ---Button: What We Can Do For You
    MovieClip 3: What's Your Brand's Persona
    ---Text
    ---Images:
    ---Button: Our Process
    DETAILED EXPLANATION:
    I have three separate movie clips with a bunch of objects. Using AS3,  I  tween their alpha value from 0 to 1 to make them visible depending on a  user mouseover. As part of each movieclip I have a button. It is text  with an underline; made to look like a hyperlink. When the user mouses  over the text, I want it to change color from orange to blue. This works  on the first movieclip, but doesn't on the second and third! What's  weird is that if I cut-and-paste the button from the second or third  movieclip to the first, the over state works fine. If I set Control  -> Enable Simple Buttons, the over state works fine. But when I  export it to .swf, it doesn't work!?
    tyvm!

    OK I finally got it! My layers were indeed out of whack--the entire problem was solved by the"setChildIndex" function.
    Basically, when the user mouses over the buttons, I fade in the new clip, and set the depth above the other movie clips. Here's the code:
    buttons_movieClip.whyDesign_button.addEventListener(
      MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER,
      function(evt:MouseEvent):void
          if (active != whyDesign_movieClip)
            fade(whyDesign_movieClip);
            setChildIndex(whyDesign_movieClip,3);
            setChildIndex(whoOwns_movieClip,2);
            setChildIndex(persona_movieClip,1);
    There is a black background at depth 0. The following forum post helped a lot:

  • How do you change the opacity of a button when it is rolled over?

    I have the button created i am not trying to change the background or anything. I wanted to know how do you change the opacity for the over state of a button? by the default i have it set to 70% opacity i want to change the over state to 100%

    You'll need to leave the overall opacity of the button symbol at 100%, then modify the opacity of each state (up, over, down, etc.) individually. The individual states cannot override a symbol setting. For instance, if your symbol was set to 50% opacity, setting the over state to 100% would only give you 100% of 50% opacity.
    Make sense?

  • Can Dropdown menu item stay on the "roll over" state while the user's mouse is hoving over the sub

    Can Dropdown menu item stay on the "roll over" state while the user's mouse is hoving over the parent's sub-menus?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the response. My main goal here is to get the drop
    down menu word "Overview" to remain red once it reaches the frame
    "WhoWeAre" or "OurMission" on the main timeline. If I turn the
    button inside the movie clip into an MC to do this, the drop down
    menu no longer works. Any thoughts on how to get this drop down
    menu to do this?

  • Button + movieClips inside "UP" and "OVER"

    i wanna create a button that has "movClip1" for "UP" state and "movClip2" for "OVER" state.
    as u know, when the button is shown on the stage for the 1st time, it shows the "movClip1", (the animation for the "UP" state starts.)
    i was wondering if there's a way that the 1st time the button appears, the button shows the last frame of "movClip1"
    but the other times (when the mouse rolls over the button or leaves it) i'd like the button to be able to show both "UP" and "OVER" animations completely.
    i have seen it many times. but i can't figure out how to make this happen.
    take a look at this 4 example:
    http://www.templatemonster.com/flash-templates/28298.html
    i actually figured something out. but i don't think it's the best way. this is the way i thought:
    if the "movClip1" has for example 30 frames, when you wanna make the button appear for the 1st time, u create a motion tween and let it have the alpha 0 and no position/scale change for 30 frames. then you appear your button. and it appears right at the end of the "UP" state animation.
    but the problem with this way is that if i create a frame in another layer after the animation, the button's "UP" animation is shown again.
    and please don't tell me not to use animations for the UP state. cuz that wouldn't make the button beautiful.
    thanx.

    i figured out something. just don't know how to make it happen in actionscript 3.
    here's the way:
    u create the button and put "Clip1" for UP state and "Clip2" for the "OVER" state.
    ==================================================
    i make it clear by an example. suppose the button has clips of a circle getting bigger when rolling over the button, and getting smaller when mouse rolls out of the button.
    clip1 should be like:
    have for example 30 frames.
    frame 1, the image of last frame of clip1. and stop action. which would be a small circle.
    frame 2 ~ 30: the animation. which would be big circle to small circle animation.
    clip2 should be like the reverse of frames 2~30 on clip1. which would be small circle to big circle animation.
    ==================================================
    this should be done in actionscript which i don't know how:
    btn.onRollOver
         play the 2nd frame through 30th frame of clip1 inside button. //which then loops back to frame 1 of clip1 and because of STOP action, stops.
    btn.onRollOut
         play the 1st through last frames of clip2, inside button
    ==================================================
    can any1 please tell me a way to do this in actionscript 3.0?

    my phone just turned off and will not go back on. my top lock button has been broken for over a year. Help! I have tried plugging it into wall unit and computer but my home button just doesnt do anything!

    It seems that year long delay from having your lock button repaired has finally caught up to you.  Sounds like you have some damage to your phone that requires repair/replacement.  Take it to a Apple store or contact Apple Tech Support.

  • Can ObjectStates become buttons that link to another object state?

    Hi. I am working on Adobe CS5 and I am trying to create an Image gallery.  I know how to create the basic type which is stacking the images, making them as object states, and then linking the navigation buttons to "Next State".
    The type of image gallery i'm trying to make involves thumbnails. In the thumbnails menu, there are back and forward arrows that will move the thumbnails from left to right. The way i did it was grouping the thumbnail images, convert them as object states, and just do the Left/Right animation through the Object State menu. The problem is, I can't make those thumbnails link to the picture it is assigned to. The Object states that appear in the button menu is just the object state of the thumbnails and not the Image viewer it self.
    If it is needed that i post a SWF demonstration of this, can someone show me how to?

    Here is a sample image
    What I'm trying to do is have a scroll like action with the thumbnails and when the user clicks the specific picture/thumbnail, the enlarged image will appear on the top.
    the only way i can create the scrolling action is by making the thumbnails into MOS and just change their position in each state. the problem is I can't link the thumbnails specifically to the image it is supposed to display. I hope this explanation helps.

  • Spry 2.0 --  over state question

    I am using the adobe widget browser for a horizontal spry menu for the first time and can't seem to get an over state to work. Can anyone post code to get this working? And is there a way to make the over states work when putting the menu in an include or library?
    Thanks

    Add the following to your document
    <script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
    function InitPage(){
    Spry.$$('#MenuBar li').forEach(function(node){ /* for FF Chrome etc  */
         var a=node.getElementsByTagName("a")[0]; // finds all a elements inside the li, but we only want the first so [0]
         if(a.href == window.location){
              Spry.Utils.addClassName(node,"activeMenuItem");
    Spry.$$('#MenuBar div.MenuItemContainer').forEach(function(node){ /* for IE */
         var a=node.getElementsByTagName("a")[0]; // finds all a elements inside the li, but we only want the first so [0]
         if(a.href == window.location){
              Spry.Utils.addClassName(node,"activeMenuItem");
    Spry.Utils.addLoadListener(InitPage);
    </script>
    and the style rules for activeMenuItem
    <style>
    #MenuBar .activeMenuItem .MenuItem .MenuItemLabel {
         background-color: #592f8b; /* consider exposing this prop separately*/
         color: #ffffff;

  • Sorting question over state...

    Hi there,
    Anyone know where you amend the over state / hover of an option in a sorting question ???
    Been looking in the object style manager but can't find it in there...
    Thanks in advance...

    You are talking about the partially transparent grey bar that appears when hovering over an answer in the Sequence type of questions. There is no style that can be customized AFAIK. It is not even changing with the included themes. Same is valid for the connecting lines in matching questions that are always black, color cannot be changed for them neither. It is a pity, would recommend you enter a feature request to be able to customize the color of both the hover bar and those lines.

  • Over state for nav bar using liquid positioning

    Hi everyone, I have a navigation menu in a website I'm making
    that uses liquid positioning. I was wondering what the best
    technique for adding an "over" state (rollover) to my nav menu is.
    I was thinking about making the nav menu a background image for one
    of my divs, then placing an ap div over that with my rollover
    images inside, placing image maps on top of those, and then doing a
    show/hide behavior for each image. This is not working out too well
    and I'm sure there is an easier way. Also, I am new at this and am
    having trouble understanding how to center objects using a liquid
    layout. Can someone please help me?

    Why not use the menu widget? Image maps are a pain.
    I must admit I don't understand "liquid positioning."
