Buttons on printer fail to respond

I recently needed to move my printer and it wouldn't shut down when I hit the power button.  If I held the button down long enough it would just print a test page.  I gave up trying to shut it down, and just unplugged it.  When I turned it back on it started flashing a message saying to shut it down before killing the power.  Unfortunately I can't seem to get the machine to recognize when I hit "OK" so it will stop flashing this message.  Fortunately it does still allow me to print, but I can't do anything off of the printer itself (like make a copy by just hitting copy).
I have a best buy warranty, but I don't want to take it in for a repair if I can simply resolve it by resetting something since last time I brought a printer in for repair there it took 3 months for them to finally give up and give me money towards a new printer.  It's a Photosmart C6280 All-in-One.  Thanks for your help.

I spoke with the Lingo technical support on this problem several times since Tiger has issued the updates. I encountered a problem where I was able to connect to everything, including Jabber, website, et cetera, but not connect to AIM if the set-up was Cable Modem --> Lingo Phone Adapter --> Apple Macintosh Computer. It did not make sense to me because all ports on the VOIP adapter were open, and neither could Lingo support help me. What I ended up having to do is use a router, having the computer and VOIP phone adapter connect to the router, then having the router connect to the cable modem. The problem went away, but it was rather annoying with having so many dropped calls! I found out today that the reason is because iChat AV connects with AOL Instant Messenger using port 5060, which is also used by the Lingo service. When the computer was connected to the phone adapter, which was then connected to the cable modem, it blocked the port 5060 only because it used the same port! There is no solution to this, at least according to Lingo technical support, other than to set-up a DMZ which could then disable port 5060 for lingo, and then enable its use over iChat. This unfortunately disables the lingo service while connected as the DMZ disables the very port through which lingo connects. Either lingo will need to find a way for both to share the port without it shutting off for one or the other, by either chainging the port through which iChat connects, or lingo will have to change the port through which it connects. This is unfortunately very inconvenient for those of us who wish to connect to the internet through the VOIP phone adapter, which in turn is connected to the cable modem.

  • New macbook pro fail to respond to the power button

Why did my new macbook pro fail to respond to the power button?
I have a new 13" MacBook Pro Retina (10.9.1) which I have been using for about 3 weeks. I am new to Mac and am in the process of making the transition from Windows XP.
Today, with the battery at 100% and the power lead disconnected, I left the mac with the lid closed but, when I returned, it did not come back to like when I opened the lid. Also, it would not respond to the power button.
After some web searching, I managed to get it back to life after resetting the SMC.
Is this a software problem, or is it more likely to be a hardware problem?

Highly unlikely that software is involved - especially since resetting the SMC corrected the problem.
Unless it happens again, I would forget it. If it occurs again, take it in for warranty service.

  • Button/tab page selections fail to respond

we have a number of web-sites built with VS 2012 that normally run okay, but on occasion internal tab or button selections that usually result in a page change within the application fail to respond.  When this occurs the mouse
over will display the text "javascript;" instead of expected URL name.  Since it is only occasional and not all the time, I suspect it may have something to do with physical server load balancing, in that the URL is set to work on
most of the servers where others may not have been configured the exact same when chosen or possibly it has to do with a server being too busy at the time, but would expect an error or wait message instead of a lack of response.  Is there an explanation
    and fix for this behavior?

    Hi,
Tools>Internet Options>Security tab, click "Reset all zones to default".
"When this occurs the mouse over will display the text "javascript;" instead of expected URL name. "
    indicates either
Active Scripting is disabled in the zone where the site maps to (File>Properties)
    or
Your AV product has disabled Active Scripting (javascript).
To avoid confusing error messages and links 'not working' add <noscript> tags to your web pages.
If possible please include a link to your website or a mashup with your questions.

You can eject the tray by holding the mouse button down while it boots. Try a USB mouse & keyboard if you have one, but a bluetooth one should work.
If the mac is booting correctly you should get a dialog asking you to pair the mouse & keyboard if the OS cannot detect one that is paired. I think some startup key combinations work via bluetooth.
A known working USB keyboard is really the answer if you need to trouble shoot startup issues I'm afraid.

  • Ix2 fails to respond, cannot get past login screen

I am having intermittent problems with my Iomega ix2 failing to respond. After some time being on the drive fails to respond. I cannot open any files through Windows explorer. If i attempt to connect using the web interface i cant get past the login screen. I put in my user name and password and hit enter. The page simply reloads the login screen. The only solution is to power the drive down using the button on the back of the unit. Powering it up it works fine. Eventually though this will happen again. It's happened a half dozen time or more in the last few days. Now I'm stuck out in the field and cannot access any files. Please help.

No. No errors in the event log of any kind other than the time sync error. I recently replaced one of the disks as it had failed. I receieved a warranty disk from Lenovo/Iomega about a month ago. i installed it and it rebuilt the RAID with no problems. This error has been happening since then. When the time sync error happens i get all kinds of strange behavior. SFTP, which is how I access the files, will start giving Goodsync 'cannt reach end of file error' type errors. Like I've mentioned before I also get an issue where the web login screen gets caught in a loop too. I type in the user name and the password, hit enter, and it just reloads the login screen again. Rebooting the device from the power button on the back is the only solution.

  • "device failed to respond properly" error

I have a mac mini sans dvd burner. Thus, I was happy to get a Plextor PX-740UF dvd burner in the mail. The fun stopped once I tried to burn a dvd. I have gone through 10 dvd's so far with no luck. I have been reading this forum trying to find a solution. I have tried Verbatim DVD-R lately. I saved a disc image and tried to burn it with the disk utility. Everytime I get the following error: Unable to burn "name.img" - the device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.
iDVD keeps giving me a multiplexor error. Nonetheless, I don't understand the error from disk utility. Why or how could a device fail to respond? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Are you doing it right? see below:
    File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Failed to respond problems

After happily video conferencing with my Mum back in England (I am in Thailand) we have recently received the dreaded Failed to Respond regardless of which one invites the other. We eventually managed to obtain pictures by following some of the suggestions on the discussion but I think the main success was rebooting the router. Unfortunately whilst we can obtain two way pictures we can only obtain 1 way sounds depending upon who invites who.
Neither of us have touched our computers to make any changes and are both on the same latest versions of the software, Tiger and iChat so are wondering why this is happening now rather than before, any ideas?
My machine seems to have also taken to shutting down and restarting for no apparent reason including one time just completely freezing 'off' and not able to restart even after unplugging the power.
Surely this 'failed to respond' is something Apple needs to look into urgently as I am rapidly losing faith with the supposed 'plug and play' sales pitch when it seems anything but!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
This failed to respond is as much an issue with the AOL servers that iChat has to go through as anything else. This has been discussed at length in the forum.
However, your system shutting down on its own is most likely not an iChat problem, and probably a power supply issue if not set up in your Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Schedule button. This I would take up with AppleCare. There is an repair extension program for certian iMac G5s:
    http://www.apple.com/support/imac/repairextensionprogram/
See if your iMac G5 qualifies for it if you are not under AppleCare or the one year warranty.

  • "Failed to Respond" victims try this v.2

A while ago I experienced a troublesome "Failed to Respond" error and found a solution/workaround - here is that thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1023629#1023629
I recently tried to chat after a prolonged period of time and was met by my old nemesis, "Failed to Respond". After reading countless posts and changing numerous settings on my router, iBook and then my hardwired G4 I was running out of ideas.
I only chat with my folks and they said nothing had changed on their end however for the sake of troubleshooting I had my dad bypass his router and plug directly into the cable modem - it worked like a champ!
True, I do not know what is causing the problem on his end but the workaround is successful. So add this one to your arsenal of troubleshooting tips and it may pay off.

    Kevin,
I have a Netgear WGR614 v6. and the following minor tweak works for me:
    1. Open the Netgear SmartWizard router manager in your browser
    2. In the Advanced menu select 'Port Forwarding/Port Triggering'
    3. Select service type by clicking on the 'Port Forwarding' button
    4. In the 'Service Name' pull down menu select: AIM
The following should already be entered in the table: Service #1: Service Name: AIM, Start Port: 5190, End Port: 5190, Server IP Address: Your Server IP Address: e.g. 192.168.1.2
Click on the 'Add Custom Service' button and input the following:
    5. Service #2: Service Name: ichat 1, Start Port: 5060, End Port: 5060, Server IP Address: Your Server IP Address: e.g. 192.168.1.2
    6. Service #3: Service Name: ichat 2, Start Port:16384, End Port: 16403, Server IP Address: Your Server IP Address: e.g. 192.168.1.2
    Hope this helps,
    Ed

  • Dell C1760NW wireless print fail

Trying to get a Dell C1760nw printer to work wirelessly with OS10.6.8 laptops.  Printer works fine via USB cable.  It also connects and prints wirelessly via WinOS laptops, but not the Macs.  Drivers are updated on all laptops.  The printer firmware is updated via the WinOS laptops (no option to update the firmware via the MacOS units.  grrrr).
Macs are configured for both the USB printer version and the network with IP address version, with both icons showing in the Mac printer list.  MacOS seems to be connecting to the printer, because during a wireless print job attempt, the printer list icon shows a yellow "busy" light, and the text shows "Connecting to Printer with the spinning dial - it never makes the connection.  The printer widget in the Doc shows a red error dot.  If the print job is deleted, the printer icon status changes to green "idle" light.
Currently using the default Dell IP address for the wireless operation.
Router is Netgear N300 with WPA encryption.
Macs & Win units all successfully access the router for www and email.
The push button connection btw printer and router did not work, even for the WinOS laptops.
Printer setting report shows port9100.  Is that an open port on the Mac?  Where do I configure ports in OS10.6.8
Mac Firewall is on.  Print sharing (and all other sharing) is disabled.
Mac can ethernet cable into the router to connect to printer via the Dell interface.  Settings can be adjusted, but printing fails via ethernet - same as wireless.
    Any ideas or experience?
    Thanks

    Bit of an update:
The router successfully pings the printer as follows.  Ethernet cable or wireless access via Safari from Mac laptop to the router IP address brings up the router interface.  Use the router interface to ping IP address of the printer  - it's a wireless ping, because the printer is not cabled to the router.
Router interface lists the printer's IP in the Attached Devices screen and identifies it as the Dell Printer.
Ping report shows 4 packets sent, 4 replys received.  I think this, and the fact that the Win Laptops can print wirelessly is proof that the printer is definitely on the router's wireless network.  Can anyone confirm?
Printer Report shows printer operating through port 9100 and all the other port status items are marked enable (LPD, WSD, SNMP/UPD, EWS)
Printer report also shows these Network items:
    Bonjour (mDNS)=enabled
    IP Filter=Off
    SSid= correct network name
    Network mode=Infrastructure
    Wireless Status=Good
    Link Chanel=6
    Encryption=WPA-PSK-AES/WPA2-PSK-AES
    Any thoughts?  things to try?
Some 801.xxx mismatch between Mac & Router? (but the Mac connects to router for www and email)
Is a port not open on the Mac?
Is there a Link Channel setting on the Mac?

  • Unable to chat "because user failed to respond"

I and my family are having trouble using iChat AV for video chat. The problem also affects audio chat.
Essentially, when person A invites person B to chat, and person B accepts, there is a delay with the spinning indicator (which always pauses momentairly in this process) and then person B sees an error message saying that person A "failed to respond". Messaging works fine.
My father experienced this issue first, unable to connect to my brother. However, I was able to connect to both of them. Recently, I was invited to download an iSight Updater, and since this the problem now affects me.
My father uses iChat AV v3.1.6 (v441) on OS 10.4.8 on a G5 iMac
    I use iChat AV 2.1 (v153) on OS 10.3.9 on a G4 iMac
I believe my brother also uses OS 10.3.x
Can anyone provide any assistance as this problem is getting us down! Thanks!
    iMac G4 Flat   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi Perseverance,
This info suggests that ports for iChat are not open somewhere such as the Mac Firewall or the modem.

  • Report printing failed with "Servlet error: An exception occurred. "

    Hi,
I use Apex 3.1 in Oracle Express edition develop few applications. In one of the application, when I enable report printing in stardard reports and try to print to PDF/Excel, the servlet error occur.
I had configured FOP in my server and I can download PDF in "interative report", but for stardard report, the report printing failed.
I can successfully print the reports in my others applications. Anyone know what could be the reason which cause an application failed to print the report.
    Thanks
    Vincent

Does your application name have special characters? I heard that the app name has to be just letters and numbers for this to work...actually testing right now.
