Buy 1.5 or wait until 2.0?

I'm a student and fine art photographer. I've had a chance to play around with Aperture and I really like it. However, as a starting student and artist I don't have a lot of $$. I qualify for the educational discount ($150), which I could probably swing, but if I do I won't be able to shell that kind of $$ out again anytime soon. I know this is incredibly premature, since 1.5 was just released, but I'm wondering if there's any speculation about when 2.0 might arrive. I want to be smart about how I spend my money... and since there is no upgrade with the educational discount, I'll have to buy it all over again when 2.0 arrives.
I'm getting along okay with Bridge and PS, and feel that if Aperture 2.0 had a decent chance of being released at Macworld in January or shortly thereafter, I could wait. If it's gonna be more like six months to a year, I think I'd spring for it now.
What do you think?

Short answer:
The real cost you are going to face is not the $150 or even the upgrade cost. The real cost is the time you are going to put in, now or later, to learn the software, import, tag, rate, and process your photos.
Considering that Aperture and Lightroom both benefit from the time you put in organzing, rating, and adjusting your images, the sooner you start doing that, the better.
Both Aperture and Lightroom are good options. Derrick Story has an excellent comparison of the two up at The Digital Story, his digital photography podcast.
I prefer aperture for general workflow, particularly with the large number of images I shoot. However, for one off fine art prints, Lightroom has some distinct advantages. This being said, all my photos are primarily stored and managed in Aperture.
Another considering is your hardware... what are you running on? Running Aperture on sub-optimal hardware is no picnic.

  • Really want to buy an IQ800 - but wait until Windows 7?

    Hi,
I REALLY want to buy a TouchSmart IQ800, but I was told to wait until Windows 7 comes out - that won't be for another 8 months!
I was also told that by that time, they probably will offer bigger CPU's, Memory, and Video Cards...
Any input would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

I've got the IQ810 TS, which is the United Kingdom version i presume, and have played with it so much despited being a novist with PC's, i can tell thats its a beauty to have one of these babies, and to retirate i'll call her my baby, its like a new toy or mobile phone you configure to a very satisfactory taste. I manager to creat a dual boot OS containing the Original Os that came from the manufacture, mirroring each other, reason is siimply to upgrade one of the OS to Window 7 whlie retainning the original sorfwares and drivers, my joy isn't just having the TS and what it potentially could do but the journey it took me to getting to where i am.
My advise would be, depending how urgently you like to have one, weigh the positive against the negative, having in mind when it come to computers, elctronics or TECHNOLOGY, its ALWAYS CHANGING, and as for window 7 RC if you decide to upgrade to, Window 7 will expire next year, by then MS would have released the window 7 for consumers to everyone.
Even with the wall mount i got as additional kit, i've left mine on a coffee table, better experience, accessiblity and conviences, to be honest i ffind it difficult to use anything smaller than a 25" screen or Window 7 with the multi touch, split screen for comparison, multimedia i.e t.v, 2D & 3D designs programs.
I think i've said enough, have fun like i did mate.......

  • New Imac (aluminum) Buy now? or Wait?

hey, i just saw these new imacs, and i was wondering if its a good idea to buy it now, or wait until leopard comes out.
and are they really better than the whites ones?
    Thanks
    niko

I know this wasn't the original topic...just because Steve Jobs announced 10 "new" features of Leopard, it doesn't mean that those are the only "new" features of Leopard.
I'm not trying to pick a fight...TylerJS, just that if anything, it is Vista that is trying to "look" and "feel" like OSX. I was using a friend's HP running Vista...still "work" and "feel" and "look" like XP to me. It was so confusing that I had to just do what I had to do and power down!
I would say wait...get Leopard with your iMac installed. To me, OSX is so user friendly that I could only see it getting better. But...still a little confused on how "Time Machine" works...one would need a HUGE hard-drive in order to use this feature. When backing up movies, music, photo files, one could only imagine that it would take up a TON of space....
Anyway, again, I'm not trying to pick a fight...everyone is entitle to their own opinion, but to me, Vista is "copying" OSX, not the other way around.

  • Moving to australia - should I wait until i get there to buy an Ipad

Any advantage to waiting until I get to Australia to buy an Ipad?

If you are moving from the US the iPad 4 /Mini models in US
will not work outsde US on LTE unless you buy the Verizon/sprint model
The iPad 3generation does not work on LTE anywhere outside US
although 3 G will be fine on all models

  • Buy a new Macbook Pro now (15") or wait until Lion released?

Hi all. I have been planning to upgrade my two-year old Macbook Pro to a new model (the new one with the Thunderbold port, etc.). However, now that Lion has been announced and will be avail in the App store in July, I'm thinking it pays to wait until it is officially released... will Lion be installed on the new Macbook Pros beginning in July?
When I was a Windows user, I aways understood that it was better to wait for a new version of windows (if due out shortly) than to buy a new PC sooner, since an 'upgrade' to the OS is not as good as the newer OS coming pre-installed on the system itself.
Does all this make sense? Looking for input/advice. Thanks

if you wait until Lion is officially released, you will get it for free if you bought your MacBook after that date and it was not included. Usually you would find a voucher in the box, if not, proof of purchase was sufficient. That's how it was handled in the past - with physical media.
The hardware pre/post Lion will be the same for the 2011 model so I wouldn't see an advantage in having it preinstalled.
Whether instant gratification with a new MacBook is worth $30 is another question that only you can answer

  • Should I buy the iPhone 5 now or wait until September?

It's July now and apple usually announces a new iPhone is September should I get the iPhone 5 now or wait until September?

No one but Apple knows when (or if) Apple will release a new iPhone.  That being said, Apple has released a new iPhone every year for 6 years straight.  If you think you want the newest iPhone, wait a few months and see what happens this year.

  • Buy MACBOOK now or wait for newer ?

I'm a student in college right now in need of a laptop and stuff. I'm not really looking for power as much as I'm looking for efficiency. My dilemma arises when I can buy a macbook with like -$100 or -$200 if your in college and stuff + a $300 iPod touch before september 15th or should i wait for the newer version of macbooks, which I heard will be released in mid-late september.
What is your opinion on this one? I can still live by and wait without a laptop as school just barely started so i barely need to talk notes and stuff...

Any resource you got saying they might be releasing new ones is pure conjecture.
    Don't trust such resources.
Read what I have to say about new Macs:

I think that you should not get a new MacBook now, because the fact that you "don't" need it now. Apple has not released any information about anything new, and they just released the new iMacs, MacBook Pros, MacBooks and MacBook Airs so I doubt that Apple will release any new computer products in the near future. Although Apple may surprise you, but I suggest waiting until you really need one, and then purchase it.

  • Should I just wait untill the Intel Mini's are out to make the switch over?

I have been somewhat active on this board for the last month or so looking at the Apple Mini. I want a computer that never really slows down, or crashes a lot. Also, I want a computer that can do some light video editing, and some light gaming (think: Battlefield 1942!).. I'm thinking about waiting till the New Intel Mini's come out but I really don't know when that will be! I don't know if I can hold on for 8 more months with this crappy thing they call an OPERATING SYSTEM.
Do you guys know when the Intel's are coming out? When they do, thats when I might make the switch from XP to mac OX.
    Thank you all!

Though a bit belatedly, I thought it might be worth pointing out an issue that ought to cross the minds of those considering buying a mini but not sure whether to wait for the Intel models or not.
Aside from the fact that no-one knows when the Intel minis will be announced and what specs (thus performance) they will have, and the fact that as soon as the first models are out, there will be a tendency to want to wait until the next revision for the 'rev.a' bugs to get ironed out and some speed bumps ironed in, one important extra consideration is the software that's intended to be run.
All software at this time is G4 compatible, and many titles are either already in universal binary, or about to be so, thus would run natively on an Intel-mini. But some, Adobe CS and Microsoft Office (to name a couple of significant examples) are not universal yet, and while they likely will become so, it's not at all clear when. Until they ARE universal, those apps will run in emulation on an intel Mac, and performance is not reported to be stellar.
So I'd suggest to anyone considering the issues, to look at the titles you want to run, and make sure all the important ones are Intel-native already, or going to become so very soon. If they are, then waiting for an Intel mini is perfectly reasonable as long as you don't have any immediate need and can wait however long it takes. But if any crucial apps are PPC only and likely to stay that way, I'd buy a G4-powered mini while they're still available, and trade it later when the crucial apps go Universal and the Intel models have settled down.

  • Should I buy or should I wait...

I want to buy the iphone 5S ( unlocked ) for my little brother, but the price is 649.
I don't know of I should wait until the iphone 6 comes out. The 5s might be 50-100 cheaper..would it?
I also plan on buying the iphone 6 for myself. What do you guys think?
Would the 5s drop in price?

The 5s is for my little brother, I never owned an iphone, yet I've always wanted one. I want a bigger screen, that's why I'm waiting for the iphone 6. I just wanna save a few bucks on the iPhone 5s if the price drops down when the iPhone 6 is released.

  • Should i upgrade from early 2008 macbook pro or wait until 2015?

    Hi,
I'm debating on whether to bite the bullet now and buy the new macbook pro (15 inch) or wait until next year. i know this is practically obsolete in Apple years, but it actually still runs ok for my purposes (not used for work). I added RAM to 6 and am currently running Yosemite. I've read that many people keep their original macs for years. Advice helpful. Thanks!

Do you NEED  new computer for any particular reason or is this just a "Want"?
If you need a new computer NOW then buy one. If not then wait.

I will be traveling to Ireland - is there a way to purchase a microsim card before I leave, or must I wait until I get there and go to a store, like Vodaphone?

You need to wait and get it from a carrier in Ireland.  Besides, you'd be bummed if you could buy something here and then it didn't work there.  Good thing you'll need to wait.

Always remember to 'de-authorize' you computer when selling or sending for service. If sending for repairs you might not get the same mother board or HD back and some how this counts as an authorized computer against your count.

Please do not duplicate a thread. The threads are answered as soon as possible. We are not Adobe. Just user to user.
I have answered your most recent of the duplicates
Premier Elements 13 Organizer Works. Editor doesn't. Log in doesn't work
It is uncertain just how far we can go to help you since you do not appear to have Premiere Elements any
longer.Seems you demanded a refund from Adobe Chat, got it, and now are left with a non purchased program which I
am not sure can be used.
Duplicates tend to confuse the person asking the question as well as those attempting to reply. As I suggested in the
above mentioned thread, try to sort out your situation with Adobe via its Adobe Chat.

  • No more than 1 sessions at a time are allowed. Please wait until open sessions expire.

I have been unable to log into my Actiontec MI424WR router this week, The router returns the message "No more than 1 sessions at a time are allowed. Please wait until open sessions expire." every time I try to log in. This has been going on for days.  Even pulling the power to reboot it did no change.  I'm the only user in the household that would log into it, so I don't understand how this could occur.  How can I get in?

I really don't want to do a hard reset as I have a handful of custon port forwarding rules that I had created. I'm not a wiz at that, so it would take me too much time to re-create!  I may have no choice. Next time I can get in I will try the backup of the config file. I hope it contains the port forwarding rules.
The backup function should work fine, I have used it to save my Steam port  forward rules to my hard drive, after a pin hole reset I was able to restore successfully. I did configure mine to 1 session & ALWAYS   logout when I am done.  I have never had any problems logging into the router. But in your case you may need more than 1 session allowed.
Are you using a native or 3rd party app to remember your router ID/password? IF you are do not do this, you are "defeating" the built in security of the router

  • Remote function module to wait untill the response came from webmethods

    hi all.
here i have got a situation that the remote function module created in SAP-R/3 to wait untill the response came from webmethods :
i have created the remote function module by assigning one structure in tables(tab) and 3 parameters in changing tab just to collect the messages return from webmethods
so this rfc will be called by webmethods and pick the structure data and then it wll return 3 variables back to rfc.
here the rfc need to wait untill the response came from webmethods.
so can any body suggest me on what source code do i need to write in RFC

    Hi Naina,
Normally RFC are synchronous, they do have return parameter as export parameter.
If return parameter is missing then , you can create Wrapper RFC.
    Wrapper RFC:
It is nothing but you just  create BAPI in SE37 transaction with Return parameter as export parameter and make it remote enabled by clicking on Radio button.
Under source code, CALL BAPI which XI has to call.
    Thats it!
    I hope this helps.
Let me know if any help required.
