Buy a Verizon iPhone 4 just for making calls. Is it worth it ?

My wife is a Verizon Wireless customer and is eligible for a phone renewal and I would like to wait and pre-order the iPhone 4. Would it be worth the purchase if she mainly used the phone for say 85% phone call usage and 15% data usage?
She has an LG VX9000 phone and the battery is giving out causing the phone to periodically shut off. Her main use will be for phone calling, reading news articles on line. She has never listened to music or video, except through a news article and never bothered taking pictures on her current phone.
I suggested the iPhone 4 because she was not impressed with the Droid Incredible that she was shown at a couple of stores and I had her use my HTC MyTouch 4G phone for a few days. She said that phone was too sensitive.
I have two concerns; will the iPhone 4 on the CDMA network affect phone calling/receiving and will battery life be an issue. Please share your thoughts.

i'm going to answer with the assumption that you will be signing a new 2 year contract and need a new phone due to the battery. my wife and i were on tmobile with an expired contract using old dumbphones because we didn't really care about all the bells and whistles either. but we needed new phones because of batteries and my wife wanted to have a qwerty keyboard to text our daughter. we decided to go with iphone4's because we thought we might want the features within 2 years and if we don't buy it now, we will be stuck with another fairly dumbphone for 2 years. we feel we made a great decision and have ended up using a lot of the features we never thought we would. we are very glad we went ahead and bought them.

Do you mean "deactivated"? If you use the same phone number, then yes, it will be deactivated. If you start a new line, then you will have both phones active on different numbers.

Thanks for your reply, but from what i seek, the Verizon model seems to be unlocked, ive seem many blogs and videos showing and proving that, AND, also, ive seem many people argueing about the T-Mobile model, saying it doesnt come already unlocked, that you have to use it with a T-Mobile plan for 40 days and then after that you can request an unlock....I live in Brazil, and some friends bought the T-Mobile model and their phones arent working here, and some bought for the Verizon full price and they`re working fine, i just wanted to know how and where should i buy an verizon full price, because the apple online store or the retail store doesnt offer you an verizon phone for 649, so im just lost on it.

How to set iPhone Bluetooth to be just for phone calls?

Is there a way to setup an iPhone 4s/5, iOS 6, to use the bluetooth only for phone calls?
I don't want music, youtube, google maps, or any app to go thru my car speakers. Phone calls work fine because the car will switch to Bluetooth audio automatically for those. I usually have my car audio set to radio so no apps are audible in the car unless I manually switch the car to Bluetooth Audio but then I can't listen to the radio.

The only way around this, depending on the car system,
is connect the iPhone to the unit via USB.
At least with my Ford SYNC system, I can pair via
Bluetooth and connect the USB and select USB audio
on the Ford unit and in the Music app on the iPhone.
Doing this, all phoner functions go via Bluetooth and
everything else is over USB.
Perhaps your car system supports something similar
or not. If it doesn't, there is nothing you can do.

Verizon iPhone 4s Contact List/International Call Issues

Hi, my wife upgrade her ATT iPhone 3GS to a Verizon 4S. Everything went well except with anumber of issues that all seem to deal with how the phone interprets phone numbers. Here are the symptoms:
– When a phone number is dialed from Contacts, Verizon answer and says you are not able to make international calls
– In the contacts, phone numbers are displayed as 9165554444 in stead of (916) 555-4444. Even though on the orignial phone and her laptop they display correctly
– When some calls or texts from a number on the contact list it is not identified even though the number matches those in the contact
– When going to Settings > Phone the phone's own number is diplayed as 9165554444 in stead of (916) 555-4444.
Some solutions that begin to look promising:
– if you place +1 in front of the existing nmbers they appear in the proper format, +1 (916) 555-4444, and dial correctly but this would require a retyping of many hundreds of numbers and doesn't totally fix the contact identification issue.
– turning off "International Assist" helps in some of the issues above but not all, and I have always had this on for previous phones, both hers and mine. I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 5 and have the exact settings as she does and have non of the problems.
Anyone have ideas about a solution? I have heard of at least 4 other people having the same problem on different forums.

The summary:
Here is the summary of the steps I took to correct the issue:
1) Open the Phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
2) When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
3) Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating something like, "Settings updated."
4) Open the Task Manager and kill the Phone, Message, and Contacts Applications
5) Wait a few minutes (I waited 3 just to be extra safe)
6) Open the Message App to verify the fix.
If you are still broken, kill the Message App again, then reboot your phone.

Verizon iPhone 6plus unable to receive calls but can receive texts

Hello, I have a Verizon iPhone 6plus (64GB Space Grey) and am unable to receive incoming calls, yet I'm able to place out-going calls and exchange texts with my contacts. I'm unsure how to proceed, I'm asking for assistance since I have seen that my issue is different then everyone else since I can call out and do text messaging. Any ideas on how to correct this issue? Do I need to speak with Verizon, since to me it seems like a network problem? Or do I need to go to my local Apple Store and request a genius bar appointment for assistance?

I suggest contacting or going to Verizon and have them try to resolve the issue, calling feature is a carrier feature.

My iPhone 4Has just quit making sounds can someone help?

it was working fine this morning......side buttons are on full volume and settings are also....do not disturb is in the off setting. the only sounds I get out of the phone are if I use the speaker during a call. I am trying to record video but want to use the out jacks of my hifi amp for audio at the same time, is this possible with iphone 4 or ipad, in stereo? Yes you can use it as an iPod. I use my old iPhone 4 as an iPod. When you restore an iPhone(on iTunes), it should still recognise the iPhone as an iPhone and go through the new phone set up process. Once you have set the phone up there is a message saying 'No sim card installed!' but you can ignore the message and use the phone as an iPod.

Why won't Verizon iPhone send iMessage when on call and Wifi?

I am new to Verizon and am aware of the simultaneous voice and data limitation, however I was under the impression that wifi would work normally while on a phone call, and it does.
However I am finding that when on a phone call, and successfully on wifi, iMessages do not get sent. They fail.
Anyone else get this? Can you please test it?
I have a iphoen 5 on 6.0.1 already BTW but have no idea if it happened before with 6.0.

He is correct. All data is in one giant pool once you are on Wifi. The prioritization is first come first serve, unless the phone is implementing some sort of QoS at the packet level, which is very unlikely. This is the same way a full computer works, everyone sends their data broken up into small packets (Each packet is ~1k in size at maximum.) All of those packets just go into a queue in the order they were sent, and the modem handles sending them out.
The question is if iMessage is really going over the standard data routing, or if they are still using some sort of SMS wrapper. If its just data, it shoud send/recieve without issue regardless of what other data applications are running.
