Buy an iPhone but not use the phone part

I have a couple questions and I was wondering if anybody on here could answer them for me.
I want to basically use the iPhone as a PDA. I don't want the cell part because I'm currently happy with the cell phone service I have.
So is it possible to use the iPhone without having to sign up for a contract?
Like using the browser, camera, contacts, etc. but not having to use the cell phone part.
I don't want to really go for the iPod touch because it doesn't have the amount of functions the iPhone has.

No. It has to be activated and using a service plan with AT&T.

Sorry, but the iPod touch is exactly for that, but you really can't call either device a PDA. THe iPod touch s a media player at heart, and the iPhone is a phone at heart.

Ios 6 is not available for all iphones. Original Iphone and iphone 3 are not supported.

This is common for most any device/computer. Not all iphone/computer/device models can handle all of the new features. Like any device, hardware is limited and cannot always support all new features and software.

Can I buy an Iphone and not activate the phone?

And just use it as a normal 8GB ipod? Thats all I really want it for, and its $100 cheaper than the current 8GB ipod. Will all the ipod type functions work without activating the phone?

I got the same problem. The percentage of getting this problem is around 10% of all my dial/receive calls.
The problem usually appears when I receive calls. The phone app will freeze, and I cannot dial or receive calls even I closed the phone app, however, most other apps work properly.
Once this problem happens, I will not be able to turn off the phone by holding sleep button, the only way I can get rid of it is holding sleep and home button at the same time to reset the iphone.

Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears. If nothing has happened after holding for 30 seconds charge the phone for 15 minutes with the wall adapter and try again.

If the calendar is on iCoud.com, all you would need to do to get it on your phone is go to Settings>iCloud on your phone, sign into your iCoud account and turn Calendars on. The iCloud calendars will then download to your phone.

My iPhone will not use the 3G network.

My iPhone will not use the 3G network. I have to turn it off in the settings. Then my phone will connect to the E network. This is the only way I can make calls. Does anyone know why?

I am in Utah and with AT&T. I was able use 3G for about 6 months and then it just stopped. I took it to the apple store and they said it was an AT&T issue. I went to AT&T and they said it was an Apple issue. I had the SIM card replaced ands that still didn't work. It wasn't until I turn off the 3G that I was able to make calls again. Now I'm just on the E permanently.

Do the problem songs play in iTunes on the computer?
Is Settings>iTunes and App Store signed into the account that purchased them?
Can yo redownlod them directly to the iPod by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Do they show up in the Purchased list?
Do you have any Restrictions (Settings>General>Restrictions) set that would prevent syncing/loading those songs?

Plug you iPhone into your computer, select the iPhone, select the photos tab. Now check (not uncheck) the sync photos from... Select the folder where the photo came from, click apply then sync, now uncheck the sync photos box, click apply, it will ask you if you want to remove the photos click remove, it will not delete other photos exept the ones in the folder that was synced. Then click sync and the photos will be removed
