Buy iCloud Storage with Family Sharing credit?

Anyone know if iCloud Storage can be purchased using a Family Sharing organiser's iTunes Credit?
My wife has an iCloud account which does not have any iTunes Credit or a credit card registered to it. We want all iTunes/iCloud purchases to come out of the family's credit pool which is applied to my primary iCloud account as the family organiser.
However, when she tries to buy more storage for her iCloud account (new monthly fee plans) it fails, with a message around the credit card declining (something like that...). I checked, and my family organiser account definitely has iTunes credit available on it, and Apple's info page about iCloud Storage says it can be paid for with existing account credit.
So my assumption is that iCloud Storage doesn't come out of family sharing credit, and it can only be paid for by the primary iTunes account the storage is being purchased for.
Does anyone know if that is true? I haven't been able to find clear information online by Googling or searching Apple's website.

Oh wow. You're right. Another page actually puts it clearly:
If you're using Family Sharing, the credit you redeem will only be available to you. iTunes Store credit on your account isn't shared with other family members.

Did you actually watch the movie? You get 30 days in which to view it and if you didn't watch it, that could be why you are getting that message. If you have watched the movie and you're sure that is has expired by now, contact iTunes Store Support and seek their help.

  • Can I share my iCloud storage with family

I purchased 50 Gig of storage on iCloud for my daughter going off to college.  I'm now wondering if other family members can all use that allotted space.

Perhaps you should read these Apple documents about what is stored by iCloud.  The following is from this Apple document: iCloud: iCloud storage and backup overview:
Your iCloud account includes 5 GB of free storage for iCloud Mail, Documents in the Cloud, and your iOS device backups. Your purchased music, apps, books, and TV shows, as well as your photo stream, don’t count against the 5 GB of free storage ........
    Here’s what iCloud backs up:
Purchased music, movies, TV shows, apps, and booksPurchased music isn’t backed up in all countries. Purchased movies and TV shows are backed up only in the U.S. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they have been refunded or are no longer in the iTunes Store, App Store, or iBookstore. Some previously purchased movies may not be available in iTunes in the Cloud. A movie’s product details page in the iTunes Store shows if the movie is unavailable.

  • Can you share iCloud drive storage with family members?

Seems like this would be a common question but Apple Support search came up empty. So, can you share iCloud drive storage with family members?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can share they space if they all use the same Apple ID, but that's not really a good idea, because you'll then share contacts, calendars, photos etc etc.

  • Why can't we use iTunes gift cards with family sharing? After Christmas, we now have lots of account credit we can't use. Very frustrating.

Why can't we use iTunes gift cards with family sharing? After Christmas, we now have lots of account credit we can't use. Very frustrating. There is no option found for using account credit.

I just logged out of my daughter's account and back in, and now it works. Deducted from gift card account balance. So I hope this is resolved.

  • Should I switch from shared iCloud account with wife to two separate accounts with family sharing?

My wife and I have always shared 1 iCloud accpunt between our our 5s phones, iPad, and an old 4s which is now just a toy for our toddler. With ios 8 I am not sure if it is possible or practical any more. We do it to share purchases and the photo stream and a Google calendar.
With ios 8, it seems to be impossible for both of our phones to share their location. From what I can tell, only 1 device at a time on the icloud account can share its location. Is that a correct assumption? And icloud no longer gives the option for each of us to sign into separate itunes accounts on find my friends. We are forced to sign in with our 1 shared iCloud account. So we can no longer use find my friends to see each other's location.
So has ios8 rending sharing an iCloud account useless? I'm wondering if we now need to have separate accounts and link them with family sharing. Will we lose the benefits of having our 1 shared account? I just wanted to make sure we wouldn't lose anything if I set her up with a new account and linked it with family sharing.

I have lots of questions about this and other things too; I have been sharing my account with my wife and daughter for years through 10s of iPhones and iPads and with the introduction of IOS8 we are having lots of new and not so fun problems.
As to your question about location.  I have three iPhones and one iPad using the same account now (on IOS 8) and all four devices show up with Find my iPhone.  My wife's was not showing up today but I went in and turned on the new feature "Send last Location" and all of a sudden her phone was able to be found again.  Not sure if that will solve your problem but just wanted you to know that I have the four devices all showing up in Find my iPhone with a shared account.

  • I cant buy icloud storage as there is an error bt i have enough credit in my itunes account

I cant buy icloud storage as there is an error but i have enough credit in my itunes account

    i have enough credit
If you are referring to the balance from a redeemed iTunes gift card or certificate, that won't work.
iCloud storage can only be purchased from a debit or credit card account.

  • A method to convert an existing iCloud account to a Child iCloud Account for Family Sharing

I do not see any method by which to convert an existing iCloud account (we have three set up for our kids, all their birthdays are set later than their actual birthdays so we could grab their actual names before they were all gone years ago) to a new Child iCloud Account for use with Family Sharing (namely to be able to take advantage of the new features: Family Calendar, Photostream, 'Ask to Buy' on the Stores, etc. on their own iPad minis.
If this is just not possible under the current scheme, please oh please Apple make this an option - there are probably thousands of others in this same boat, and I refuse to give up my kids' iCloud accounts!

I've read every string and workaround solution on these forums (to date). There's really no good options here.
USER STORY: My kid (age 7) has an iPad 2.  I created an email address for him (which he doesn't know about). I created an apple ID for him (which he also doesn't know or care about) and I set up his Apple ID with my credit card.  In addition I've set up parental controls on the iPad to lock it down and make it more age appropriate.   Over the past year or so it's worked out fine, he sees something he might like, brings the iPad to me and if I approve, I enter the Apple ID Password  and approve the purchase.   After a year of doing this, he has a nice little collection of apps, kid songs, a few movies, etc.   I would like to move my kid over to a legitimate kid account now that Apple has released features that support this.  Currently the ability to convert an account does not exist. Seems like it should be easy to change a birthday, etc.
Almost seems like Apple is penalizing us for getting our kid an iPad last year.
Apple  - Please consider my user story for your upcoming feature enhancements.

  • Will there be a way to merge iCloud accounts for family sharing in iOS 8?

My family of four has 5 Apple IDs. Each of us has a personal one that we use for mail, contacts, and calendars and we all share an Apple ID for use with the iTunes and App Stores. This way, we can all currently share content without having to buy it four times. However, Apple has solved this problem in iOS 8 with family sharing.
My question is how should I handle this with my current lineup of Apple IDs. I know there's currently no way to merge two Apple IDs into one, and I don't want to just transfer my credit card to my personal Apple ID, as I will lose my purchase history. I know I could add my current "shared" ID to our family account in iOS 8, but I'd like not to have a duplicate of myself. Any advice would be appreciated!

It's not necessary to merge the iCloud and iTunes Store accounts. The Family Organizer should use their own iCloud account when setting up Family Sharing. You'll also be asked to supply the iTunes Store account you want to use to share music, movies, apps, etc., with your family during the setup process. It appears Apple has already addressed this common problem.

  • Issue with Family Sharing and unshareable apps

My husband and I just upgraded to iPhone 6's with iOS 8.0.  Previously, we both used my Apple ID for all app purchases on our old phones.  With iOS 8.0, we turned on the Family Sharing feature.  We would both like to install the mobile app for our bank (TD (Canada)).  With Family Sharing turned on, this app is listed as one of my purchases.  However, it is also listed as "unshareable".  I can install the app on my phone, but when my husband tries to install the app, he gets a message saying that the app has already been purchased using a different Apple ID and cannot be installed on his phone.  Note that on his phone, he does not even see the app under my purchases when he goes to App Store | Updates | Purchased.  However, if he searches for the app in the App Store, instead of a "FREE" button, he sees the iCloud download icon.
Has anyone else run into this problem and figured out how to fix it, or is this just an iOS 8.0/iTunes/App Store/iCloud bug?  It actually does not make sense that a free banking app would be "unshareable" under Family Sharing in the first place since several members of the same family will most likely use the same bank.
    Thanks for your help!

I have the same issue.  I spent an hour on the phone with Apple and they don't have a clean fix for it.  The issue seems to be with apps that developers have not yet set the Family share-able flag as yes or no.  They said that when developers update the flag this will resolve itself.  Meanwhile, if in the app store the details of the app under Family Sharing it says "Not Available" it will be an issue. I found a reasonable workaround for this particular issue by hiding the original purchase and "re-purchasing" as follows:     Disclaimer/Note: Not all Apps are share-able, (even free ones.)  If the app you are trying to deal with is an actual paid for app, you will be buying it again!  Better to wait until the core issue gets fixed, unless you are willing to pay for it again.
    1.  On a PC or Mac, in iTunes, have the original purchaser log in to the iTunes store, then under Quick Links click on Purchased.  Click on Apps at the top and find the app that is at issue. (Hint:  The apps are not necessarily listed under the obvious app name.  I was looking for Colorspot from  SherwinWilliams, and found it under SherwinWlliams, not Colorspot.)  Once you find the app, hover over it and click on the X in the upper left corner to hide it.  Do this for all the apps that are at issue. (See Disclaimer/Note above)
    2.  On the iOS device that is having the problem, close the App Store app. (If you have many apps at issue you might make a list, or take a screenshot first)
    3.  On the same iOS device, find the app and delete it.  (not ideal but it works!).  Once you have all the apps at issue deleted, reboot, and make sure you are logged in to the iTunes store as the secondary "purchaser", (If you are logged in as the original purchaser you probably wouldn't have the issue in the first place, although to me that means going a bit backwards and not really using the Family Sharing program.)
    4.  Open the App store app, if you started the whole process with an app that wouldn't update, confirm that the app is no longer listed.
    5.  Search the store for the problem app as though it was a new purchase (at this point it is.)  Once found, it should be listed with the "Free" or a "price" icon. If it shows the cloud and download arrow icon the hiding you did in step 1 hasn't updated yet.  Wait awhile longer. (Reboot again? Re-log into store again?)  (Also note here, that a properly shared app will show the cloud/download arrow icon and would be download-able without issue.)  If it shows as Update, it hasn't actually been deleted from the device.  If all is well, you should be able to proceed with a typical "purchase" of the item.  (See Disclaimer/Note above) If the family member has multiple devices, repeat 2-5 for each device.
If you have multiple family sharing members wanting the app you will have to repeat  step 1, hiding the purchase in each iTunes account until all family members have gone through the re-purchase process.  After fixing all of their devices, each person can go back into iTunes, click on Account under Quick Links, go to iTunes in the Cloud section, Hidden Purchases line, click Manage, and unhide the hidden apps.  This would be important for future sharing when the bugs get worked out.
    Good luck!

  • Using Apple ID Balance with Family Sharing Enabled

I currently have 4 Apple accounts setup within my Family Sharing settings.  All four are setup to use a shared payment method from my account.  My primary account has a balance, yet any purchase made from a family member only uses the credit card.  Only purchases I make deduct from my balance.  Is there a way to have the shared family devices pull from the primary account's balance first before charging the credit card?

    Hello MattPanton,
Lets see if we can isolate the issues with Family Sharing. Lets start with the Contacts issue. Now with Family Sharing, Contacts is something that is not part of what can be shared. You would be looking at things like purchases, calendars and the Find My iPhone features. So as far seeing the wrong contacts, check to make sure that your account is not signed in anywhere on her devices. To answer your other question about how to obtain someone else’s purchases you would need to navigate to the appropriate store, like iTunes and App stores, and navigate to the purchases area and you should see the option of the other person to see what you can download to your device. Take a look at the articles below and let me know if you need any thing else or further assistance.

  • Problems with Family Sharing

    I have not been able to get Family Sharing to work well with my child.  I have set up Family Sharing where I am the organizer, my wife is a parent/guardian, and my kids are also in as family members.  My youngest is under 13, so I set up an @icloud appleID for her for use on her iPod.  No issues in setting it up but I am having two ongoing problems - my guess is that they are related;
    (1) When I go to purchases on my iPhone, the following is at the top of the screen: "This iTunes account is set up to use Family Sharing with a different iCloud account than [email protected]"  Where [email protected] is my daughter's appleID.  I am signed into everything on my iPhone under my appleID, and she is signed into everything under her appleID on her iPod.
    (2) She went to download a free app from the App Store.  It prompted her to "Ask to Buy" and she selected send.  I never received the notification to approve her "purchase"  The only way to get the app on her iPod was for me to "purchase" it on my iPhone; she could then download it from purchases on her iPod.
From my searching the communities and other forums (1) seems to be a common problem, but I have not yet seen a global solution posted.  (2) also seems to be prevalent.
Note that when my son went to purchase an App for the Macbook Air, I did received the notification.
    Any assistance would be great.

  • ICloud Photo Library & Family Sharing

    Hi there,
is there a way to share the "iCloud Photo Library" with Family Sharing ?
Since iOS 8 do not allow to use "Share my location" on multiple devices a.k.a. "Find my Friends" (Me & my wife use one iOs account) I have to use two accounts with Family Sharing. But now the "My Photostream" is gone on my wife's device as expected.... So can I have this with "iCloud Photo Library" ?
For me it makes no sense that I have all photos and my wife don't...
    Sven

Each family member has their own Apple ID, but uses the main one for purchases.  It seems to make sense that each AppleID could have its own Photos library, but I can't find anything in the support area that says this to be the case definitively.  I want each family member to have their own Photos library that syncs between their iPhone and their ID. I hope that's how it works.

  • Share iCloud drive with family members

Has anybody figured out how to share iCloud drive with family members?
I was using Amazon Cloud drive which used to have an app you could download and imbed into Finder, but with OS X 10.1 this is no longer supported so I've switched over to iCloud drive.  So far it is working seamlessly, except for the fact the my wife has to log into my iCloud account on the web in order to download the files.  Ideally I could share iCloud drive and she'd simply log into finder on her mac to view our files and records.
    Thanks in advance.

You can only share iCloud Drive with someone else if they also log in to the same account.  Otherwise, your sharing will be limited to the sharing options of the file itself, which is extremely limited.  Hopefully they will add more options as time goes on, but for now, thats where iCloud Drive is at, in its infancy.
    Good Luck.

Can I purchase more iCloud storage with my iTunes gift card

Provide the iTunes Store with a credit card number(iCloud storage upgrades are a subscription and not a one-time purchase), redeem the gift card if you haven't already done so, and get the upgrade. The credit card won't be charged if the unspent balance is large enough to pay for it.
