Buy Leopard OS X 10.5.7 Retail

Any word on if/when Apple will have a retail version available of Leopard 10.5.7?

It appears that Apple is shipping Leopard 10.5.7 with new systems but they don't have a retail copy for sale. I'm guessing they won't since Snow Leopard is slated for release in just a few months. Figured I'd ask though. I will try giving them a call in the morning, but I'm guessing no since their online store only lists a 10.5.6 version.

You can buy from an Apple store, which has a 14 day return policy.
You can buy on-line from Apple and get a new or refurb model (less $), and get engraving if you want it.
Some retail stores have a more generous return (30 days?) policy.
You can buy from an on-line Apple Authorized Reseller. I bought (with free shipping) mine from MacMall because I didn't have to pay sales tax. I paid with my American Express CC to get, for free, an additional 1 year warranty.
Regardless of where you buy you still get the 30 day Apple Care and 1 year warranty. You can extend, for $, the Apple Care for 2 years. Or you can buy, for $, Apple Care +, which provides accidential damage repair insurance. There's also some 3rd party sources to buy the accidential insurance.
Some retail stores and on-line stores offer a small discount or add a bonus item.
It's your choice. Find the best deal.

Oh those Canadians, you just have to take what they say with a grain of salt.
The warranty on the iPhone, contract or not, is not world wide. If something happens to your iPhone I seriously doubt wherever you are in Europe that they stock Canadian unlocked iPhones. Worse, if you take it to an Apple Store in a country where the iPhone is locked then they can only replace it with a locked iPhone from their supply of replacement phones. If it is with a different cell provider than you use well, that's just too bad.
You would either need to return to Canada for service or send it to someone there who can take it in for you.

Can i upgrade from mac os x v10.4.11 to snow leopar or do i have to buy leopard

If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Snow Leopard you do not need leopard.
    Snow Leopard = OS X 10.6.x
It is Not available as a download... It is a Paid Upgrade.

  • Can I still buy Leopard?

I'm running an Intel Mac with 10.5.8, and I have it slaved to my powermac quad-core G5, which is still running 10.4.11. But in order to take full advantage of the slave, I need to upgrade it to Leopard.
The problem: Leopard's gone, and I don't think Snow Leopard will work on a G5.
Is there any way to upgrade the 10.4.11 on my G5 to Leopard, or am I outta luck?

You could still try Apple, but be very specific. I know when they released Leopard that of course they wanted you to buy Leopard and didn't want to hear the word "Tiger" (like disowning a bad relative). However, if you cried on their shoulder that your old G4 wasn't up to Leopard specs. but you needed to upgrade OS so you could send email to your sick granny in East Timor who had a cat that was on its deathbed in shock after the pet hermit crab died, they would actually find a copy of Tiger for you somewhere. The same may apply to people with ancient hardware like a G4 or G5 ("Why don't you just buy a brand new Apple computer?"). Just make it a good sob story.

  • Buying Leopard outside US, but need English version

    Howdy,
When I want to buy Leopard on the web-site, it mentions "Spanish" as a language.
Logical, since I am in Spain, but I need an English version.
Is the Leopard CD just multi-language and can I just "English" choose upon installation ?

  • When you buy Leopard does Tiger go?

When you buy Leopard and put it on your computer does it totally get rid of Tiger, so even if you don't like Leopard you can't switch back? Also how have you enjoyed using it. I have an iMac Intel Core 2 Duo made last September, also a 500gb harddrive. Thanks.

    Hey Brown,
I would highly recommend backing up your entire Mac HD to an external drive... use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a duplicate of it. Then, you can always go back if you want to. It is smart to do before installing a new OS anyway. (as you can tell by all the posts on this forum)
Leopard is working fine for me. Had a problem with incompatibility with SideTrack but that's it. It's really not THAT different from Tiger. Appearance is slightly different but not much. Spaces is a nice feature for me as I use my MacBook for work, school and home. TimeMachine seems good though with a MacBook I'm not hooked up to my external drive consistently like a desktop, so I'll need to make an effort to do that more often so I have backups.
The only two things I really don't like so far is that I can no longer download hotmail to Mail and some of the changes to iCal. But, I'll get used to them.
    Overall... I like it!

  • I've got tiger and I want to buy snow leopard for it. should I do it or buy leopard instead?

I've got tiger and I want to buy snow leopard for it. should I do it or buy leopard instead?

The only operating system you can upgrade to is OS X 10.5 Leopard. Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor, which the Powerbooks don't have. I confirmed the other day that you can still buy Leopard from the US online Apple store at 800-MY-APPLE.
Before you update, be sure you download any updates to non-Apple software that may be needed to run under Leopard.

    Welcome to the Apple forums:
Apple does not supply free upgrades for older OSs, only updates.
10.5.1 to 10.5.2, etc. is a free update
10.4.x to 10.5. is an upgrade that requires a purchase of the new OS
Purchase of a computer does not generally include free OS upgrades.
DVDs that come with a new system are not designed for and should not be used on earlier computer systems, for multiple reasons, the most important of which is it is not legal to do so. It is a violation of the Apple license agreement we "signed."
Yes, you have to buy Leopard if you wish to install Leopard on your old computer.

  • Can I buy Leopard retail second hand?

I lost my Mac OS X Retail Leopard install disc that I bought years ago. My friend is willing to sell me his Retail Leopard install disc however I thought I'd check with you to see if this is okay. He no longer uses Leopard as he sold his old iMac and now uses Mavericks on his new MacBook Pro.
So my question is this: Can I buy his second hand retail Leopard installation disc and safely install it on the G5 that I just picked up second hand? Or do I need find the retail version brand new on amazon or ebay etc.?
I'm asking this because with Microsoft Windows you need to buy it brand new because the serial only works with one machine. Which makes it very hard finding Windows XP retail version brand new and installing it legally.

You need to make sure you know what a retail disk is.
The normal distinction is that retail disks are black and model specific disks are grey but there are exceptions.
You also need to make sure you have an optical drive which can read the media.
My Leopard DVDs are 9.5 GB double layer and not all optical drives can read these.
OS X 10.5 does not require a serial number to install.
OS X 10.5 Server does require a serial number to install.
As far as I am aware neither will stop working if they have been used for multiple installs (legal or otherwise).

  • Where can i buy Leopard

Hello to all just a quick question
Where can i buy a retail disc of leopard in australia ?
How Much is it going to cost?, because snow leopard is $39
and i am going to put it on a iMac G5
    thank you

The phone number for Apple Australia, in the web page header
on the top left side, may be a place to call and inquire of this item.
The correct, main sales number and web page URL appear below.
Since I'm not familiar with how their phone system works in Oz, it
may be a first step in asking if a product specialist can help you
order the correct retail Leopard OS X 10.5 installer DVD so you
can upgrade your older computer that can't run Snow Leopard 10.6.
    *•Apple Store: 133-622* - +online Apple Store (AU):+ http://store.apple.com/au
This telephone number is also for main online store Sales Support.
    The above is not a means to connect to a local or 'physical' retail store;
in that they are not usually able to supply you with a non-current product.
The actual stores likely won't have products not in the current inventory.
*Sales Support*, via their phone number, is the recommended contact here.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I'm visiting Boston from Europe and was wondering if I could buy an unlocked iPhone 5 at a retail store.

So the thing is that I need an iPhone 5 that I can use in my country (Iceland). It's so much cheaper for me to buy it in the USA than here at home.
Is Apple selling completely unlocked iPhone 5's at the retail stores and if yes, how much are they selling them at?
    Best regards,
    Gunnar - Iceland

Apple has not even announced when or if they will release an unlocked iphone 5 in the U.S.

  • Buy Leopard vs Tiger for IMAC G 5 or simple give in and buy new IMac??

After reviewing this topic, I am still confused as to what to do. The Leopard OS looks complicated to load and I am not at all savy about Mac's and trouble shooting problems!! Is the Tiger a better way to go for a simple Mac user like me? I am even thinking about a new IMac with updated software and Leopard. My IMac works great but the Panther OS and ILife are probably getting outdated (but still meets all my needs still, though Turbo Tax will now not run on it.). Any suggestions or advice? Dazed and confused!

    Hi Stephen,
I agree with MGW that you seem to be looking for confirmation or approval that it would be a good idea to buy a new Mac. I have a feeling that if you install Leopard into your old Mac, it may run slower that on a stronger Mac which would have more RAM and power. Leopard would also take up more space from your current 80 HD. Furthermore, by purchasing a new iMac, you will be able to benefit from a SuperDrive instead of a ComboDrive, a bigger HD, and more RAM can't hurt.
Anyway, I'm cheering for you! Good luck with your decision! I never regretted my move from an old Quick Silver G4 tower (CD-R) to my current MacPro. It took me many years to get the courage and the money to finally go for it and NO REGRETS!
    Best wishes...
    Rio.
