Buy MacBook in US to use in France and consequences

Hi everyone,
I am in the US for a few weeks and I'd like to bring back a MacBook from my trip. But I have to make sure a few things before:
- Will the one year warranty be valid in Mac stores in France?
- Except buying a new AC adapter, what will I have to do to be able to use it over there?
- Is it possible to change the keyboard, or even to buy it directly with a european keyboard?
- Is there a problem with the DVD because of the zones and everything like for a home DVD player?
- Is there other things I should watch out and would you do it if you could save 30%?
I don't like just throwing a list of questions like this, but there's a thing I like worse which is throwing by the window one month of salary!!
Thanks for your answers and take care!
Jean

Yes,the warranty is worldwide.

Already answered by Doug.
- Is it possible to change the keyboard, or even to buy it directly with a european keyboard?
Yes the keyboard can be changed. No,you can't purchase a European keyboard equpped MacBook in the U.S.
- Is there a problem with the DVD because of the zones and everything like for a home DVD player?
The zones can be changed a maximum of 5 times before it locks.
- Is there other things I should watch out and would you do it if you could save 30%?
The Tax Man.Before you fly home, throw the box away and just carry the MacBook like you've owned it for years.

    Hi Rachel,
Have you tried reinstalling Microsoft Word? Have you tried reinstalling Office? Have you run any updates recently for Microsoft Office? There was one that came out this week. You may wish to ask this question over at the Microsoft Word forums, there's a good chance you'll get a better answer as well. This forum is primarily designed for the MacBook Air hardware and interoperability with OS X on a MacBook Air.

I am unable to buy on itunes as I live in France but use an English credit card which is registered to my French address. itunes UK don't like the French address, itunes France don't like the English credit card. Any ideas on how to buy? (Without having to pay for a French credit card)

Go to a place in France and purchase an iTunes gift card. You should be able to use that in the French iTunes store if you have a French address associated with your iTunes account.

I am traveling from the US to France and have a Macbook Pro. Can I just use a plug adaptor or do I need a power converter to plug in?

Just an adapter to change the US plug style to the one in the country you are going to. The AC charger will do the rest. It is rated for 120-240 volts and will adjust on  its own.

Hi vickkjayy11 and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
Just to be clear, we are a peer to peer support community and have nothing official to do with Apple.
So to your problem, when you say:
"I reset my macbook pro a few days ago"
What exactly happened? Did you have a Time Machine backup?
    Read this:
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
It would help to know the exact model (size and year) and which OS you're using.

I want to buy a refurbished 'Macbook Pro' solely to use 'protools 8' on-nothing else!.
I am being told there are only certain year Macbook Pro that will run this programme.
I know I need 8gb, can anyone give me advice on what to buy/look for please?

It appears to depend upon the version you will be using:

Based on what I can tell, you may have to go to the second hand market in order to get a MBP that will run a compatible OSX.
    Ciao.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Read the system requirements for the programs you listed. Match them against the specifications of the machine you propose to buy. The more RAM the better, your hard drive size requirements and video card specicications may require the upgraded, not base, model or may eliminate the MBA as a platform.

  • Buy MacBook Pro using credit cards from Argentina

Hi! Im from Argentina and I want to buy a MacBook Pro using my creditcards from here...
when i am doing the check out, the form asks me my billing address zip code.. is it possible to do this? or Apple isnt accepting anymore non US credit cards?.
    Thanks!!

You need to keep the MacBook Pro for other uses, forget getting a overheating "you can't change anything but the RAM, cost you a arm and a leg to fix it" iMac and get yourself a Windows tower where you CAN upgrade the video card time to time, and CAN tweak things and CAN switch out the monitor, the keyboard, add surround sound cards and tons of other things for your 3D gaming experience.
I know this sounds like blasphemy on a Apple site, but it's the god honest truth.
Your clearly in the "competitive" aspect of 3D gaming and all the newest, most powerful video cards are on Windows as there are more users on Windows, thus a larger market for buying upgrade cards.
3D games only really need a dual core processor as all their "work" is really video card (GPU) related.
Windows towers are also a heck of a lot less expensive than a MacPro, and all the "games choices" are on Windows.
Mac's are ALWAYS significantly behind their Windows cousins when it comes to 3D games and with laptops your restricted by battery or heat issues, unlike towers with their massive cooling.
MacPro's have trouble getting new video cards, back in the PowerMac days it was easy as they thought the "Mac is back as a 3D gamers machine" until the Intel swtich that is, it's like now you only get what comes with the new machine and god forbid if you went cheap.
Windows 7 is not that bad actually, it's a lot more "pleseant" and secure than before, you can install the free Microsoft Security Essentials and it will protect you from most casual malware. Sure enough just using it for gaming isn't going to bother you much, you'll hardly see it or use it, just long enough to launch the game.
Just don't go treating it like you would a near immune Mac and you shoudl be fine.
I'll let the Cinebench score show you what your missing.

  • Can i buy a smaller macbook air (64gb) but use the time capsule for additional data ?

can i buy a smaller macbook air (64gb) but use the time capsule for additional data ?

If you plan to store important "original" or "master" files and documents on the Time Capsule, then you might want to think about a way to back up those files to another hard drive.
Why? If the Time Capsule has a problem...and you have no backups....you lose everything.

I'm traveling to Europe (France and Lithuania) with my iPhone 5s.  I would like to buy a local SIM card for use while in each country. Some sources (Verizon phone support) say this is as easy as buying the card and inserting in place in the slot. Others (Apple Genius) say I must completely restore the iPhone if I replace the sim card. Still others say I cannot use a local sim card. Can you help me find the correct information? Thanks for your help.

That's a wonderful question, ssmiley67. The iPhone 5s comes unlock for international use. Many of our LTE devices are unlocked for international purposes and work upon inserting the international SIM in the device.

  • Is it possible to buy an iPhone 4s unlocked in the US, and then use it normally and completely in France with Freemobile ?

Is it possible to buy an iPhone 4s unlocked in the US, and then use it normally and completely into France with Freemobile (which provides micro-SIM) ?
I'm travelling to NYC tomorrow and that would be 100€ less than in France...

Thank you for the quick answer
Do you mean that I can't reserve and pick up my phone in the local apple store as it's explained on the site (http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/) ?
What about the social security number asked in the formulary ? I've got a French one...
    Puzzled...

  • Can I buy a new Micro SIM card in France for my Verizon iPhone 5 and use it while in Paris?  Same for London?

I am travelling to Paris for a week and then London for a week. Can I purchase a new Micro SIM card for my Verizon iPhone 5 in Paris and London and then use my phone with some sort of prepaid plan while in France and England?

I just spoke with Tech Support at Verizon and they said Yes, I can use my iPhone 5 in France and England. No unlocking is needed because the phones come pre-unlocked and ready to go. All I need to do is buy a new Micro SIM card in France/England and pick the pre-paid plan of my choosing and the phone will be good to go. Of course, I need to not lose my original Micro SIM card otherwise I would have quite the headache getting a new one once back in the US.
