  • Can I record audio without buying a mic? (ipod4g )

I thought there was a way to record just audio on the 4G, yet when I search on the web everything assumes you have to buy a mic. If I can record video (which includes audio) why can't it just record audio? I can't find anything on my ipod that shows me how to do that.
    Much Thanks!-Kate

I read that chapter several times before posting this original message. It does not tell you how to access it. It's says: Voice memos uses the internal mic on ipod touch 4th gen. To use memos on the 3rd generation (...goes into 3rd gen talk) and then it never addresses 4th gen. Is there a place I go on the screen to access the function? I've looked in utilities and found nothing.

  • Should I buy the Gtrack mic

I just learned the Gtrack records at 44.1. I work mostly at the 48k sample rate so the audio can go right into a video editor. This mic seems like what I need but if I were to record in Soundtrack, would it only record at 44.1k and could I resample it to 48k within STP. I dont want to jump through a lot of hoops to make it work...........I'll buy a mic that functions at 48k if I need to............I dont HAVE to get this.
    thanks

    Souleffecx,
I ordered a Zen Micro Silver from Amazon, on /20. I paid $249.99, with free shipping. I received the unit on /24. WalMart Online was also offering the Silver model at a few cents less, but no free shipping. Tell me, how did you qualify for a $25 discount? <gr>
If you have experience using Creative's Touchpad operating system, and if you're familiar with the concept of Creative's MediaSource Organizer/Player driver package, then you can probably purchase a mail-order unit and teach yourself how to use it. But, if you don't know what I'm talking about in the previous sentence, you really should find someone who is familiar with Creative players and can give you advice on how to get up and running with the new Zen Micro player.
Believe me, learning how to operate a Zen Micro is more difficult than learning how to ride a bicycle... you're gonna lock up the dri've a few times, and you'll have to use the "recovery cycle" to reset your player. Also, you will need to clean-up, reformat and reboot the dri've, WITHOUT contaminating the players firmware package. And the written instructions that accompany a new player are grossly inadequate in teaching you how to do these things without screwing up a few times along the way...
If I had it to do over, I would wait until a local electronics shop had the Zen Micro in stock, with some experienced salespeople on hand to help me get started... More than any other electronics product I've purchased in the past 20 years, the Zen Micro requires a much improved user manual and/or good local support to get up and running smoothly.
I don't believe the players are defecti've... It's the inadequate and confusing operating instructions that are responsible for most of the problems that we hear about...

  • Mic activation on iPod Touch 2nd gen?

Does anyone know if the mic is working with the new 2.2 update? If not any idea when it will be available?

The mic does indeed work with 2.2, it's actually been working since the previous version. Just buy any mic that works with the iPhone and it should be fine. There's no external Mic.

  • Mic suggestions for recording guitar/voice over the air?

    Hey Folks,
I have an acoustic guitar and would like to buy a mic that would do a decent job of recording both the guitar and my voice. Is there anything in the $50 or less price range? As you can tell, I'm not serious, but would like something a step up from the internal mic.
    Thanks!

you can take a look at the USB mics here:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Microphones.html
but the low end model would probably be a step up only because it won't pick up the HD and fan noises of the computer, if you can swing $79, the middle one should get nicer sound

  • Mic H

    Hi,
I have the SB X-Fi Audio sound card. When I go into Volume Control near the clock bottom right?then go to advance option and?turn on the boost for the mic?so it boosts my mic up so I can hear myself but?I get this really loud hissing the only way to solve this is to put the mic on mute which I dont want although other people can hear me on mute I cant hear myself also if I turn off the boost I dont get as much hiss still a little but I cant hear my self so I need the boost on but I get this really loud hissing noise even though I have boosted it I dont think I should get such a loud hiss. I have the latest drivers I have played about with loads of settings and?I still cant fix it. Any suggestions would be great? Thanks

    montana,
Condenser and dynamic microphones work on most SoundBlaster cards, and while I can't say for sure about the flexijack on the SB Li've 24-bit, I'd expect it has the same mic specs. It's also important to buy a mic with an impedance of ~600 ohms. The mics on many headset units have much higher impedance and don't work. So keep that in mind.Message Edited by Katman on 03--200604:34 PM

  • Voice Memos on iPod Touch 4.2.1

My ipod Touch says there is no microphone available when I try to make a voice memo.  Is this a setting issue? or do I need to use a microphone? it seems that if I have the application it should work without an appendage.  Whats the best solution to be able to use the voice memo?
    Many thanks for any tips,
    Budands

from what i understand, you have an ipod touch that has the voice memos app that can not be used because of no mic in the ipod touch. you wpuld have to buy a mic that is compatible with your ipod touch before you can use that app or any other app that needs a mic.

  • Vocal hardware advice for L8 - Apogee Duet?

I realise this isn't strictly logic related, but value a lot the opinions & advice I've read here (& don't really use any other forums!!) so hope no one minds me asking...
After a few years of remixing I'm looking to start recording original vocals shortly, & wandered gearwise what my modest budget would best be spent on..
My set-up/situation is currently as follows:
I currently have a focusrite saffire LE, & am mixing 100% in the box. I've only ever used a stereo line in (for DJ mixes from CDJs) & stereo out (to dynaudio BM5a's) so my I/O needs are pretty basic - The few bits of vocals I have done roughly (guide vox etc) have been on a cheapish Audio Technica Mic straight into the saffire. I have some decent quality plugs (Inc Sonnox, URS) but only a budget (& now unused) outboard DBX compressor
My studio is in a single room, so vocals will need to be recorded in the same space, the room is treated with a dozen or so home made rockwool traps but is far from perfect.
I'll be working with a variety of vocalists, from MC's to Female R&B singers so a versatile/neutral Mic would be great.
    My Budget is £600-800.
Because of the above, my thoughts initially were as below
    1) An apogee duet card (replacing the saffire) OR an voicechannel like focusrite voicemaster PRO or TLA audio (2nd hand) to go into Saffire
    2) An SE relexion Filter
    2) Rode NT2a or SE3300 Mic (again 2nd hand if neccesary)
Would I get better results from the better A/Ds & inbuilt preamps on the duet, or outboard voicechannel... or voicechannel into a duet???? - any advice much appreciated.
    Cheers.
    Adam

    Hi,
have you been looking into the t.bone mics?
If not - well - they are Neumann rebuilds... I own 5 Neumann Condenser mics . U87,TLM170,M149,M147. After comparing the t.bones to what I own and making the the a>b test looking like a random guessing contest I have stopped buying the brand and only pay for the mic. t.bones are amazing.... I can recommend the SCT2000 though it aint no tube mic.. T.bone also makes tube mics - check this link:
    http://www.thomann.de/gb/search_dir.html?sw=t.bone&x=0&y=0
THis will save you a bunch of money and I PROMISE you - that you are going to like them - If not - I will personally buy the mic from you to the org. price....;-))))
Since the t.bones are sooo cheap - maybe now you can look into the avalon.... I aint no avalon endorser but I know what a difference a great mic amp makes.... A great mic amp + a mediocre mic will give you a better result than a great mic + mediocre mic amp....
And by the way . t.bone is TOP notch... even their condenser mics for €40 are amazing...
Most people dont believe it - they wanna get neumann - as they think it's gonna make them a hit... Well neumann charges more than double just for the name...
I have a t.bone copy for any neumann I own - and this fare NO ONE has made the blind test...
    Good Luck

  • Macbook Pro 13 (Early 2011) Charging Problems

Recently I noticed that when I charge my macbook pro, the LED light on the magsafe would go green then orange to show that it is charging. However after a few minutes or seconds the orange LED light will go off (Stops Charging) and the whole process of charging starts again, green light then orange then nothing...
I already tried resetting the PRAM and SMU. I also tried using different wall sockets for charging and it yielded the same results. However, when i borrowed my friends mac charger, my MBP manage to charge without any problems. When he used my charger the charging problem also occurred.
So i decided to bring it to an Apple Authorized service provider sine they are no Apple Retail Stores in Thailand. I told the guy at the AASP that my charger was probably broken/faulty, but he said it was the receiver sensor of the macbook pro (The place where i connect the magsafe to my MBP ). He used a different charger (At the counter)and the LED lights when from Green, Orange then yellow and said the MBP needed to be sent to Singapore to be repaired and it would take 10 - 14 days. I said OK since my MBP was still in warranty and it would be free. Next day he called and said he fixed it by resetting something and that I could pick it up. At the AASP, the macbook pro didnt show any charging problems so i brought it home to charge.
Now it has the same charging problem as before...

Do you have another power adapter to try? If so, can you use the power adapter that came with this mac?
Do you have another MBP? If so can you use this power adapter on that MBP?
Are you using another pointing device or is it the one built right into the laptop? If you are using another pointing device try purchasing a new one or disconnecting or reconnecting or even try on another computer.
You might be only able to get buy for the next few month until you graduate until you can get your computer fixed. If all else fails go buy yourself a $8 mouse from a place, it will work until you can get this fixed... or buy apple mice if that is a big deal to you.
Here is one for only 3.18! http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gear+Head-Computer+-+OM3800U+Mouse/3933383.p?id=1218 443155891&skuId=3933383
Or if you want the one I have used: (M515 @ home or HP Wired Mouse-- Its kind of old) This isn't the exact one but they discontinued that one: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/mice-pointers/mice/devices/mouse-m100 so for $10 you get a mouse and your computer works.

  • Can you guys please help me choose a microphone?

    Hi Guys waves
I never needed a mic before. Now I do. One that plugs into the computer where the headphones go. I'm clueless. I tried recording the sounds via the built in mic ("singing"...that's an overstatement, to be sure), but it's picking up the sounds in the laptap. So, I'm shopping for a microphone. Cheap, but not so cheap it makes weirder sounds than my singing does. Any suggestions?

Never mind. I just saved myself a heap of money buying a mic I didn't really need. I cleaned up the all the distracting noises with Audacity. Free! Yay! It sounds great.
    Take care.
    hugs

  • Recording alto saxophone using GarageBand

    Hi all,
I am a newibe of audio production, hope you can answer my question in the most simple way, thx.......
    Here is my situation :
I'm own a powerbook G4 computer and i would like to record the sound produced my my alto sax. and the import the background music from a mp3 or a CD track.
Recently, i've tried using a very cheap and low quality microphone provided by the Creative soundcard bundle package. I've found the sound record is not good enough. I've asked my friend what's the problem will be and the answer are :
    1. my powerbook have line-in only, which is not compatatible with my mic due to impedence mismatch. (is it correct ??)
    2. also clipping always occur (i've already adjusted the gain of the mic, but still have clipping especially if i put the mic near the horn)
My friend suggested me that I should buy a better microphone with phantom power + a mixer, then using a cable to make a connection between the line-in on my PB and the line-out of the mixer.
Is my friend's suggestion enough for my purpose ??? or it is not necessary to buy a mic with phantom power ? (coz this kind of mic is very expensive)
Any better suggestions here ??? Thx a lot
    my budget is about $150-$200

Why do you think it is not really require to use a condenser mic ?? what's is the pros and cons ?
For one thing, Condensers are much more delicate than a standard Dynamic mic (The Shure SM57 is humorously referred to as "the Hammer" by many musicians because it can be used as one in a pinch, and still be used as a Mic [not recommended, really])
Condensers are often employed for vocal recording (and I would very much agree ... and use one myself)
Also what kind of mixer i should have ? a standard one or a USB mixer ?? what is the difference ??
Since you have a PowerBook with a Line-In, you can use any standard mixer, and just plug it right into your PowerBook. A USB mixer would plug into your USB port. My personal preference, if I were recording a single track at a time, would be a standard mixer (small mixers can be had for $50US).
Can you suggest some device that i can most probably order in HK ?
I'm afraid I don't have any advice on this one other than to perhaps visit a local Music Store. Perhaps do a little 'Window Shopping" online to find what you're looking for, and then take that information to the store with you.

  • External Microphone won't work!

I had recently JUST bought a headset.
I was excited to use it... I was positive that it was Mac compatible cause it said that it was ipod compatible.. my mistake I guess. Plus I needed to buy a mic under $30 cause that's all I had... and the cheapest one they had was the one I have on now.
Sooo I get it all ready.
There are 2 plug ins. One for the audio head phones... then one for the mic.
Oddly there is NO hole for a mic.. since mac already has a built in mic.. but i hate using that.
Sooo I just plug it into the next available hole.. which looks like this "|>o<|"
    The mic doesn't work....
So I go to System Prefrences on my computer and it says:
    +Changing your computer's sound input device+
+You can input sound into your computer using your computer's internal microphone or an external microphone. For example, you may want to use an external microphone to record your voice, or use the internal microphone to give spoken commands to your computer.+
+Choose Apple menu > System Preferences and click Sound.+
+Click Input, and then select the device you want to use for sound coming into your computer.+
    So I do that..
    Here were the choices:
    Internal Microphone- Built In
    Line In- Audio line-in port
    so I click "Line In"
and my mic still doesn't work.
does this mean I have to get a new headset?
The thing is I called the place and it said that this headset IS mac compatible. Soo I dunno what's going on.
My guess that this isn't mac compatible even though the guy said it was...
    Also,
Any good headsets I can get for the mac UNDER $30?

Hanners, Welcome to the discussion area!
This discussion area is for the G3 iMacs which look like this:
It sounds like you do not have a G3 iMac. It sounds like you have a G4 iMac which looks like this:
The iMac you have does NOT have an audio input port. The plug you have attached the microphone to is the output port for the Apple Pro speakers. By doing that you may have damaged your microphone AND the output port for the Apple Pro speakers.
The only way to use a microphone with your iMac is to either get a USB microphone OR use an iMic along with a standard microphone.

  • Recording audio can't get rid of fuz in background please help

so i have had my macpro for about 3 months i have been making hiphop songs flat out. my vocals have always been crystal clear im just using the inbuilt mic but yesterday i got a usb plug for my guitar i stuffed around playing guitar on gb for a few hours than i went back to finish one of my rap songs now wen i went to rcord my vocals there is like a fuz in the background it sounds so bad i cant even use it i have tried changing recording levels but it just wont go back to the quality it was before. i am really stuck and need an answer has anyone else had this problem i cant do anything until its sorted. thanks guys

    jaronfromscarborough wrote:
its still doesnt make sence y its picking up more background noise s as well as the fuz. and y wasnt the fan working earlyer it just seems like it happened after running my guitar through garageband.
the fan is designed to ramp up and down based on how hot the computer is running. so if you just used the computer for work that ramped up the CPU, it would be running hotter and the fan would kick in. once the computer cools off, it throttles down.
    jaronfromscarborough wrote:
im just a bit worried i dont want to go out and spend the money on new equipment for it not to work. is this problem common? thanks for your help so far mattimattmatt
understood! it's understandably frustrating that you buy a computer only to learn you have to buy MORE STUFF! just to do what you bought the computer for. the thing is, the built in microphone isn't really designed for music. it's like a phone microphone - useful for its tasks, but not something you'd expect to get a good recording through.
while it's frustrating to encounter the need to buy more stuff, on the other hand, when you realize you have a studio in your computer more sophisticated in some ways than what the Beatles were using, and all you have to buy is a microphone and maybe an interface... overall, it's still not a bad deal!
if all you need is a better microphone, you could buy a USB mic which isn't much and plugs directly into the USB port of the computer:
    http://www.sweetwater.com/c981--USB_Microphones
here are some audio interfaces (you'd need to buy a mic separately, but you'd plug the mic and the guitar into the interface to get the sound into the computer, with the result that both would record in higher quality):
    http://www.sweetwater.com/c695--USB_Audio_Interfaces/popular
(note that if you bought an interface, you would NOT buy a USB mic, since the interface would have the USB (or firewire) connection to the computer. you'd buy a standard mic, plug it into the interface, and plug the interface into the computer).
here's a new-ish combo USB mic, guitar interface that's pretty good:
    http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/one.php
Also, please understand, while what I'm saying about the fan kicking in when you run the computer, and the value of using an external microphone and/or interface is true, since I'm not actually where you are, checking out your computer setup, there's no way for me to tell 100% what's going on. if you are happy with what you were doing, and suddenly started getting distortion, there's always the remote possibility that it's something else. what i'm suggesting is only the likely culprit from having encountered this before!
Finally, to understand how computer-based recording works, while the computer is the heart of your studio, and a contemporary computer has a lot of components stuffed into it out of the gate, for professional results, it's really just the start! A pro computer-based studio can use interfaces, microphones, and other outboard gear that can quickly run into the thousands of dollars, and then add some more zeroes!
    good luck!
