Buying a n900 from Ireland?

Hi guys,
Just a quick question about purchasing a n900 from nokia.co.uk . I understand that Nokia don't deliver outside mainland UK, but as my address/delivery information is in London that shouldn't be a problem. However, my credit card is registered to my Irish bank account, so when I fill out the "Billing information" I get an error message saying I have entered an "invalid postcode" (Ireland doesn't use postcodes). Am I unable to purchase from nokia.co.uk if I have an Irish credit card, when seems a little strange when domiciled in the UK? Or is there some way around this, if I entered a fake post code (which isn't on my real billing credit card billing adress) will the transaction be cancelled for not conforming with my bank details?
Apologies if this isn't the right place for such a question!

Hi!
A difficult one, this!
I used to live in ireland up to a few years ago and we - again & again ran into your very problem (with other companies).
The way  in which we would get around things was to enter '00000' or '12345' into the required postal fields, and that sometimes worked out.
You have to try it and see.
You could always opt to buy one from eBay and ask the seller to mark it as a gift! They sometimes will.
Good luck!

Until you get a UK bank account and credit card, buy and redeem UK iTunes gift cards for use in the iTunes and Mac App Stores. But you need to switch your region/country to the UK store in your account information, as you can't use UK iTunes gift cards in the Irish stores, the gift cards are country specific.

You might be able to buy the gift cards from Best Buy. They sell iTunes cards and will accept international credit cards. See:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Help-Topics/International-Orders/pcmcat204400050019. c?id=pcmcat204400050019
They say that you can't order iTunes "codes", but I don't know if that applies to the physical cards. But you can try it.

  • Can you actually buy a 3GS in Ireland?

I'm starting to believe that the iPhone 3GS is just a myth here in Ireland. I've been trying to buy a pay-as-you-go 32GB black model since June without success. Last year, I tried to buy a 3G from June up until December and couldn't get one then either. Out of stock, out of stock, out of stock...
There are two suppliers in Ireland: o2 and Carphone Warehouse. With o2, the 32GB model is listed as "out of stock" for all but the most expensive plan (iPhone 700). Carphone Warehouse have no information at all about iPhone availability on their website - apparently, you're supposed to individually check with each of their local stores.
Unlike o2, however, Carphone Warehouse do provide a contact phone number on their website. I've just spent the last hour on hold with them, only to be informed by what sounded like a prerecorded message that there was no one available to take my call because the building had just been evacuated. I kid you not.
You can't contact o2 except via webmail. Which they just ignore. I find it astonishing that companies in the business of getting people to talk to each other make it impossible for you to talk to them.
I've got €800 burning a hole in my pocket right now. I would like it to go to Apple, but if their sales agents in this benighted country are so intent on choking off the iPhone supply I may have no option but to look at other smartphones.
I'll give it till the end of this month. After that, I've had enough of this nonsense.

Thanks for the advice, Dave. I'm sorry but I don't buy the supply/demand mismatch theory in this case. It may have been true for the first couple of years of the iPhone's life but I very much doubt that it's true today, unless Apple is now being managed by morons.
I've just rechecked the o2 webshop and found that I can buy any model of the 3G for any tariff and for pay-as-you-go. Even my two brain cells tell me that this means that o2 originally didn't believe the G3 would sell well, were subsequently overwhelmed by the demand, and overstocked it when it was much too late and the 3GS was on its way.
To shift this outdated stock, they're restricting 3GS sales to their most expensive tariff. Essentially, o2 don't give two hoots for Apple's interests - they don't care about selling the iPhone, they only care about selling their own products.
Sometimes I think what this country needs is another Famine...

A gentle reminder.   Unless you will be permanently resident in Canada and have a Canadian based banking/credit card arrangement you may not be able to buy from the Mac App store or iTunes.

  • On the fence about buying an N900 - help appreciat...

    Hi guys
I'm trying to decide whether to buy an N900 or not, or to wait for the next offering.  I would normally have bought something like the N900 in a heartbeat, but one of the problems I have is that I already have an N96 that is only a year old or so (got it when it first launched for like £500).  As such, it's a bit difficult for me to justify dropping £400 so soon, but what bothers me more is how quickly the N96 became outdated/discontinued.
Money isn't really an issue, I'm just trying to convince myself that I want/need it bad enough to just click that add to cart button.  I don't want to buy the phone now for £400 and have it outdated in as little as 6 months.
My biggest concerns are some of the features that would seem like a downgrade coming from the N96.  I really like using it as a music player, and I heard that the built in music player does not have a sound equalizer.  Is this true or has there been an update that added this?
I've also heard that the Maps application isn't as good as on previous models.  I think I've heard that turn by turn navigation is not available?  Is it just voice guided that isn't available or to what extent is this?
I know that MMS support was missing at first and there were some third party workarounds.  Has support been officially added yet?  I'd like the core functionality of the phone to use original software if possible.  The MMS solution I heard of a while ago sounded a bit clunky in that you had to disable a connection of some sort to get it to work?
It's a bit of a shame the N900 isn't 848x480, I think a slightly wider screen would look a bit better proportion wise.  Maybe they will save that for the next version.
Please let me know if there are any serious issues or problems that I should be aware of before I buy an N900.  Other than that I'd really be looking forward to using the web on it and the FM transmitter.
    Many thanks

Well, depends on a lot of things really.
If you believe you've got the technological aptitude to use such a device (nothing derogatory intended) and you don't mind tinkering under the hood to get the best out of it, I'd go for it.
Just for your info though, the N96 is actually almost 2 years old, and I believe it was plagued by faults and bugs that took literally ages to put right. Since the release of PR1.2 I can't find any "serious" issues as such. Also the N900 is a totally different beast to all the other phones that Nokia have produced in the past Maemo5 (Linux) v Symbian.
No equalizer still, though. But there's an app in the repositories called "Symphonie" that has a good equalizer, but it's still under working development, i.e, It's a little buggy but you can use it.
In reality the smartphone market (not sure I should be calling the N900 as such) is like the PC market. In a lot of cases no sooner have you bought a device than it's outdated. But IMO because of the N900s architecture and O/S, it's a device that could stand the test of time pretty well. The N900 should quite happily run software written for the next device in the range, thanks to the implementation of Qt4 on device. (Just a few tweaks to the app and hey presto).
As for MMS. The official stance on this is that Nokia have no intentions of bringing it natively to the N900. Instead they are working closely with the creator of fMMS so that will integrate seamlessly into the device, so in all intents and purposes fMMS is the official N900 MMS app.
TBH, I think the N900 could be better, but only from a non-techy point of view. They are now available in supermarkets, not an ideal outlet for such a device, but I suppose it increases the sales a bit.
Screen size? I'm happy with it. You could always go the other extreme and get a HTC-HD2 and spend the day walking around with half a sheet of shuttering ply.
To me there's no alternative to the N900. iPhone or Android? No thanks.
Firstly Google's privacy handling record has spooked me to the point that I don't think I could even trust their mobile software. And Android isn't as open as they claim it is, as they've followed Apple's example and employed a "Kill-Switch". Do or install something THEY don't like and *kaputt*. They can remotely disable your device.
I like a lot of the noises that are being made here: maemo.org with regards to the future of the device.

I'm try to buy a movie from iTunes with my I pad 3 and it tells me there is not enough local storage and when I go to my local storage there is a lot on free storage I also restarted my ipad but still the same prob what do I do?

5GB is typically not enough space to download a movie.  Often, movies take from 3 - 5 GB to begin with.  The only option you have is to delete more things from your iPad.  You can remove unused Apps, pictures, music, text message (messages with pictures can take up a lot of space), email messages, books, magazines etc.

  • I live in india. I am planning to buy an iPad from US.  Will an iPad from US work in India?

    Hello everyone
I am new to this Community and have a query.
I am planning to buy an iPad from US.
As I live in India , will my iPad work in INDIA?
Will I have to choose any specific carrier for that and why.
    Thanks & Regards
    Sushil Raisinghani

Well, first you have to come to the US to do that. When you do you will pay US sales tax in the state where you purchase it. Understand that once your return to India your warranty will not likely be honored, so you will have to return it to the US for any warranty repair. If you have it repaired in India by a non-Apple certified shop, then any further warranty will be voided.
Keep that all in mind before doing what you plan to do. You may find it is wiser to purchase it in India from an Apple certified reseller or retailer.

  • If i am going to buy an iphone from someone, can the apple store check if it does not have an issue?

I want to buy a phone from a friend. He states that it was brand new and there is nothing wrong with the phone's exterior or interior. I still want to check if there is anything else that I could check for. Is it possible that the Apple Store can help me check any problems with the phone? Can they also tell me the carrier of the phone? He states that it is from T-Mobile, but I still want to check.
    Thank You.
    Sara

If you call Apple with the serial number they can tell you the carrier it is locked to. You can also check the warranty status at: Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage and see if it is Activation Locked (a theft deterrent feature) at https://www.icloud.com/activationlock/.
However, if you don't trust the friend perhaps you shouldn't buy it. And reconsider if they really are a friend.

  • I bought an iPad and an iTunes card, I want to buy an application from the Apps store but it only gives me the option of credit card.  How can I buy Pages with my iTunes card to my iPad? thank you

I bought an iPad and an iTunes card, I want to buy an application from the Apps store but it only gives me the option of credit card.  How can I buy Pages with my iTunes card to my iPad? thank you

Have you redeemed your iTunes card to an account associated with an Apple ID?
Once you have your iPad associated with an Apple ID AND you have an account with a credit card associated with the same Apple ID AND you have some 'store credit' (from redeeming your iTunes card) then purchases use the store credit before they charge the credit card, so you should be ok!
Personally, I use 'store credit' as a way to monitor whether or not there have been any 'unauthorised' purchases because as soon as the store credit is zero, the security code from the credit card is needed for further purchases!  It does mean that I have sometimes to top up store credit before making a purchase, but 'better safe than sorry'!

  • I have an Italian Apple ID, but I would like to buy some application from the UK store. I changed my region from Italy to UK but it doesn't work. I don't want to create a new account. Any ideas?

    hi everyone,
I am italian, and i always used an italian sim card and and an italian appleID. recently I bought a UK sim card, because I moved in the UK. The problem is that I would like to have access and buy new apps from the UK store, but my apple ID is valid only for the Italian store. I prefer to avoid the creation of a new account for a lot of reason that are not related to this post. Do you have any ideas?
thanks in advance for your help.
    regards
    Michele

Nope. You can only have one credit card attached to an account at a time. Its not that big of a deal to use two accounts, users do this all the time. Create the second account(UK Account) in iTunes on your computer...sign out of your Italian account first. Then authorize your computer for this new account: Store>Authorize this computer. Then sync your phone. Now, to switch accounts on your phone: Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...then sign back in with the ID you want to use.

  • Changing iTunes account from Ireland to uk?

    Hello all,
I've recently moved from Ireland to the Uk. Unblocked my phone changed supplier etc and all is fine. However when trying to change my iTunes account from Ireland to uk it keeps defaulting the address to Ireland - regardless if I input my uk address.
I have 9¢ left on my Irish account but it won't let me do anything, I just want to start using iTunes uk!
So my question to you all - how do I change my iTunes account from Ireland to uk? If I need to use a new email will I lose all my apps?
    Please help!
