Buying a new Gaming pc

I am looking for a pc that can run Battlefield 3 on ultra graphics but my budget is around $1000. There is one compter i am looking at right now.
This one : http://www.bestbuy.com/site/CyberpowerPC+-+Gamer+Xtreme+Desktop+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/547071...
Can this one do what i want?
Thanks!

For what is there, it's greatly over-priced. I would not buy that for your needs. You can probably get a better deal from Cyberpower directly as the hardware in that machine is average at best and would be comparable with a PC that costs about half as much.

New to the iMac and apple

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you aren't going to use your Mac for anything special (Final Cut, Aperture, Photoshop, games...), you don't need that graphic card and you will save money.
Also, as it looks like you are going to buy the 27-inch iMac, I recommend you to buy the Mac with 8 GB of memory, and then, buy the memory that your iMac needs in OWC or Crucial (the iMac supports 32 GB of RAM) > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_27/DDR3L
Doing this, you will save a lot of money. Also, it won't void the warranty of the Mac. If you need help installing the RAM, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5540

  • Should I buy a new Macbook pro?

So, I've had a 15" macbook pro, (mid 2010) and it has served me well... The hard drive failed, which i got repaired, then the battery has just done that thing where it swells up like a beach ball...
    Here's my dilemma:
I don't know if i can  be bothered to spend the money to replace the battery, or if its worth me just buying a new one...
i know someone will say "waste of time, just get it repaired" but frankly this laptop can't really run ANYTHING decently any more...
So here's the big question: Should i just go ahead and buy the current Top Spec 15 inch macbook pro, or do i wait for the new models that come out later this year?
Will i even notice a difference?
I mainly use the computer for general browsing, video editing, audio editing and a lot of gaming... with that in mind, does anyone have any suggestions?
is it even worth waiting?? will there really be an enormous jump in performance in the new models that i simply cant live without?
Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Should I buy a new Macbook Pro 13 inch or Macbook Air 13 inch?

    Hi,
I was wondering if I should buy the new Macbook pro 13 inch, or keep my old 2010 1.4 C2D Macbook Air. I am not satisfied with the tiny 64GB SSD that my current Macbook Air has, because just a few weeks after I had done a clean reinstall of OSX Lion, the whole disk almost filled up. The one thing I do like about the Macbook Air, however is the speed of the SSD. Its really quick, and it boots in under 20 seconds. The Air didn't have many performance issues (other than overheating like crazy after playing a few graphics-intensive games).
If I were to buy a new Mac, my price range would be from $1200-$1500. I plan to use Garageband/iMovie frequently for making Youtube videos/school projects, and store a large music library. I also plan to do some moderate gaming and run Windows 7 in Bootcamp/Parallels. I don't plan to take it around much, but I don't want to have to weigh down my backpack in case I have to. My two options now would be the new Macbook Pro 13 inch or the new Macbook Air 13 inch. Could anyone give me a suggestion of which computer to buy?
    Thanks!

I went through this same thing when I purchased my first Mac 3 days ago, also between the 13 inch MBA and MBP. I ended up deicding with the 13inch MBP, here's why:
    1. More hard drive space, yes it may not be an SSD but more space is more space. I have also heard about people taking out the disc drive and adding an SSD in its place, so there would be an option.
    2. The disc drive, I rarely do use it but just in case it's there and easier than carrying around an external.
    3. Upgradability, I plan on keeping this Mac for a while because I spent so much on it. On a MBP I can upgrade the internal parts such as the hard drive and RAM. On a MBA everything is soldered together so what you buy is what you stick with.
    4. Ethernet port, this is one that could be gotten around by an adapter but I still took it into consideration. Not everywhere has wifi yet including my work where every computer is hard wired.
    5. Bootcamp, as well I plan to run Windows 7 on mine and Windows 7 takes a good amount of space so this is another spot where the larger hard drive of the MBP comes in handy. You could always have an external hard drive and run Windows 7 off of that on an Air but then you would have to have it always plugged in when you wanted to run Windows 7.
About me, I am a student so I had a lot to think about and read a lot of reviews online before I decided on my MBP but I am glad I decided on this over an Air. It may be a few pounds heavier also but in the long run for me I think the Pro will be better, I do plan on adding more RAM in the future as software becomes more memory intensive. With you're pricerange being 1200-1500 the 13inch MBP with the i7 processor  may be one to look at. From Apple with their student discount, if you are one, you get $100 of plus a $100 giftcard. At BestBuy (where I got mine) the price of the i7 13inch MBP is 1,424.99 and if you're a student you get $100 off but no giftcard. I got the i5 13inch MBP because I don't need an i7.
In the end it all comes down to what works for you, but I hope I was able to help you some.

  • I need advice on buying a new computer and monitor.

Without going into huge detail, I am ready to buy a new desktop for my photography hobby.  I am still running
CS3 (hoping that will work with Windows 7?), Corel Paint Shop Pro X (yeah, I know I have really old software, but I
don't feel the need to upgrade just yet), Picasa, and all the software that comes with my Canon 40D.  I take all my pics in
.raw and then edit/convert.  I have a 1 terabyte eternal drive where I store my photos, but editing from that source is S-L-O-W.
Someone mentioned on another site something about aneSata drive.  Need more info. (I want an easy way to backup my
photos monthly, because I have a fear of someone breaking in my home, stealing my pc and then all my photos are gone.
With the external drive, I can put it in my safe deposit box.)
I want a monitor (preferably not widescreen) that will be accurate with color and not have a glare, maybe 20" or so.  I print photos at home on my HP Photosmart printer, but I also have some printed professionally.  I would like recommendations on monitor calibration gadgets/software
so that what I see is very close to what will print.
This computer will have MSOffice 2010 on it. Will have quite a few other softwares on it that are currently on my old pc.
We don't watch movies on the PC or do any gaming so the video card will mainly be used for photography and some light video use.  We do skype.
Would like to stay in the range of $1500-2000 if possible.  I've basically purchased Dell's in the past due to the ease of designing my system,
but I have had two lemons and am certainly not tied to Dell.
I know I want a wireless mouse/keyboard.  Currently have Dell Speakers 5/1, which are decent enough for my use, as long as I can connect them to my
    new PC.
Thanks for good advice!!  (And I want this PC to last me about 5 years so I would guess I need at least 8 g ram, 3.5 GHz processor, preferably Intel.
Also want 4 or more USB ports on the front or side, as my PC location is not suitable to use the back ports easily.)   Thank you!

I've taken quite a "non-standard" approach to this...  a little while back I purchased a powerful Dell Precision T5400 workstation that's come off lease from eBay, then populated it with good hardware.  Result?  Dual quad core Xeon 3.16 GHz 16 GB system with 3 TB of internal RAID disk storage and a good modern video card for about $1500.  This is a system that would have sold new for probably $6,000 just a few years ago.
I didn't have to buy any of the external stuff (monitor, backup drives, keyboard/mouse, etc.) because I upgraded from an existing workstation and was able to re-use all that stuff, plus one 1 TB drive from the old system - which I then sold for $700 to recoup some of the cost (total outlay was then only $800).
I describe the system and how I put it together in some detail here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/827500
This is a far more powerful system than anything I could get new for the same price.
Just a quick glance at eBay and I see that some T5500 workstations are becoming available for reasonable prices now.  I see, for example, a dual quad system with 12 GB of RAM for a Buy It Now price of a hair over $1000.

  • General questions on buying a new Mac...

hey guys, i am looking to buy a new mac in the next year or so.  i currently have the powerbook g4 from when i went to school and its running very slow these days and i couldnt upgrade past leopard because of the processor.  anyways, im wondering what you guys think as far as laptops go, im not very savy when it comes to this stuff but it seems the macbook pro is the best of the best when it comes to laptops, especially as far as apple goes.
one of my main questions is about how far this laptop will take me, i was very upset about my powerbook not being able to go further than the leopard upgrade.  does apple offer anything as far as being able to upgrade for x amount of years?  its an expensive piece of equipment and im just wondering what the life expectancy is for something thats $2,500 lol.  is apple planning on unveiling a new macbook pro with an even newer processor that is gonna outdate the current intel based?
would i be better off buying the computer tower and monitor that way i can replace things if they get outdated?  i have no experience in that but i have heard that when it comes to upgrading a laptop its near impossible compared to a tower that you can open up and change things out?
what do you guys think?  any tips would be great, im kinda torn because of the money and i wanna make sure im making the best investment i can and one that will last me as long as it possibly can.  like i said guys, im not up to date with tech news so if you guys can help me out i would appreciate it.
    thanks again

    gconley wrote:

Well there has been some changes, Intel processors with integrated graphics that are lousy in performance (scores only 11) and no dedicated video cards.
So watch out the MBP your buying (usually the 13") doesn't have "only Intel HD 3000 graphics" or it will be hot and lousy at 3D games.
The higher end 15" or 17" antiglare screens are your best options for longer use and performance (can 3D game online for about 1.5 years before a upgrade hobbles you) Score 35-45 on Cinebench, as they also have a dedicated video card and you can turn off Graphics Switching in Energy Saver to run off the video card all the time. (nice)
seems the macbook pro is the best of the best when it comes to laptops, especially as far as apple goes.
It's all that Apple carries now, no more MacBooks, unless you want to count the 13" MBP as a MacBook which it's more like that than a "Pro" machine.
I'd advise the anti-glare screen option on the 15", so  you can see the screen anywhere like your present machine. The new ones with nicer looking glossy screens are a pain to use, may hurt your eyes, headaches etc.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X0wo6dIsMU
one of my main questions is about how far this laptop will take me
MacBook Pro's now are lasting about 4 years with about daily use with care, lesser of course with no care.
AppleCare is a must, so figure another 10% for that and tax. $100 case and a $100 external drive for backup (you really need two)
does apple offer anything as far as being able to upgrade for x amount of years?
No, you have to buy each new OS X version and upgrade all your third party software and go through lots of pains doing so.
I can give you this expereince, your good to upgrade the OS 2x, after that you should stop.
10.8 is being released this summer, I would wait a few months afterwards when it comes on new hardware, you will be glad you did. 10.7 is not working out right, 10.8 is going to fix things we hope.
its an expensive piece of equipment and im just wondering what the life expectancy is for something thats $2,500 lol.
    4 years, $700 a year.
is apple planning on unveiling a new macbook pro with an even newer processor that is gonna outdate the current intel based?
We cant' speculate on future Apple hardware, but I gave my advice about 10.8 above.
would i be better off buying the computer tower and monitor that way i can replace things if they get outdated?
Yes that would be a much more cost effective method, however this is the problem.
You would have to buy the MacPro Tower and you could change the hard drives, RAM and monitor, but you can't get any video card upgrades for them.
Once your three year AppleCare ran out and your video card died, your bummed. So much for that plan.
Also Apple has increased their OS X release cycle (like because 10.7 was so bad) but you don't get security updates unless your on the last two operating systems in circulation.
So your 10.4 and 10.5 machines are currently insecure online, and 10.6 will also be when 10.8 is released this summer. So Apple gets you to force upgrade that way.
what do you guys think?  any tips would be great, im kinda torn because of the money and i wanna make sure im making the best investment i can and one that will last me as long as it possibly can.
I'll give you my honest opinion being a lifelong Mac user.
Get a Windows 7 64 bit 3D gaming tower, 4GB of RAM expandable to 8GB or even 16GB and a decent power supply.
    Why?
1: Because Microsoft supports their OS version for 10 years with security and stability updates.
2: Because you can get video card upgrades as well as hard drives, optical drives, RAM and external devices like monitors etc.
3: You'll have more software to choose from, and especially 3D games.
4: Microsoft provides free Security Essentials anti-malware,
5: When you get the machine, you make System Restore Images, DVD's and boot disks to restore your own system pre-malware and immedialty Windows Update and make new ones.
Case in point, my friends XP Tower has lasted him 10 years, he paid $1200 for it new, for $120 a year.
Sure he's had the OS replaced a few times, I've done it for dinner once or twice. Others did it for a case of beer. Cant't beat that!
In the last 10 years with Apple I have spent over $9,000 in their hardware for 3 computers that I've used myself, in fact I'm looking at my dead 4 year old 15" MBP right now which the video card failed a few months outside the 4 year recall notice.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
That's $900 a year and 2 of them are laptops, one was the PowerMac G5 that Apple decided they were not going to support the 10.5 OS anymore so it made a bad decision to keep it, despite it being almost as powerful as most Mac laptops today. I could have kept that one, but with no OS X support, what can I do?
So if you toss $1600 into a 3D gaming tower, that's $160 a year verses $700 a year with the MBP AND you can upgrade it. You can replace the video card or hard drive or anything else that fails! Not so with a Mac.
    http://www.cbscores.com/index.php?sort=ogl&order=desc
Let's face it, you and quite possible me now, are in not Apple's target market anymore, you need to save money and Apple no longer offers any longterm value like they used to.
Microsoft has fixed Windows with Win 7, it's not that bad actually provided you get a good machine and a decent quality monitor. The security of Windows 7 is better than OS X now and on top of that, you can reinstall the entire boot drive yourself easily if you make advanced preparations.
Also Win 7 doesn't look as bad as before, the Aero glass is pretty neat. It's made a lof of Windows users happy. Still though OS X is a much nicer OS that Windows, but the thing with Windows, it stays the same. Apple changes OS X almost constantly, 10.7 last summer, 10.8 this summer!!!
So I know this is going against everything my avatar is, but I don't want you to throw your money away if you really need to hold on to it.
I know times are not good, Apple has billions upon billions they don't need your money. Save your money and get what you need that just does the job.
I don't drive around wreacking $200,000 sports cars and I don't expect you too neither.

  • Buying a new computer, what to get?

(Warning: Long post ahead; I'm quite thorough =p )
I've been around town; Best Buy, Staples, C. City, Dell etc. looking for a new computer. My current computer is only 2 years old and it's already atrociously obsolete (only 448 megs RAM), and rather than upgrading I decided to just buy a new one.
Well, the problem is that at all the places I go, their definition of a "gaming" computer is some monster powerhouse that can play games and end world hunger all at once; usually costing well over 1000 dollars. I'm 16, I don't have $1.5k to spend on a computer. My budget is <$600.
Another problem is the stock video cards. They're almost always "NVIDIA 6150" cards... my current computer already has one of those, and I'd like something better (preferably something that Spore supports, since that's my goal), unless it can do more than I'm giving it credit for.
So, here's what I would like at the lowest possible price.
-A moderate gaming computer; does not need to be able to play Xbox 360/Wii/PS3 graphic games (eg: Call of Duty, Fallout 3, etc.). Should be able to play other games well, however (eg: Spore, World of Warcraft, etc.). I would assume a good Nvidia card above 6150 (not 7100 though) will fit this purpose okay. Games don't have to be played on the absolute highest resolution, etc. but the lagging/skipping/stalling of my current computer makes them unplayable, and I don't want that to happen.
-4 gigs RAM, as that seems to be most common. 3gigs will do, though.
-Any size HD, but 300gig+ preferred
-Processor can be Duo or Quad, but power should be 2.4ghz+ (total). AMD or Intel preferred, but whatever I can get will do.
The rest, I really don't care about. I've got all the accessories (keyboard, mouse, monitor, speaker, etc.) so bundles aren't needed.
I'm not up for building my own computer as I don't have the time, skill, or resources to do so. In regards to the video card, all the stock computers I've found have the following:
    -Nvidia 6150
    -Nvidia 7100
    -Intel GMA 3100
-Radeon 3450 (rare, and usually expensive)
If need be, I suppose I can buy my own card, but I have no idea how to install it or even if I COULD. (I've heard some cards are integrated so you can't just swap them)
So really, what I'm asking is for recommendations; either specific products or places where I could get something like this. Or if any of the computers I've found would do what I want anyways, and I'm just not understanding the power they have (I've never done anything on a computer with more than 1gig RAM). So if any of the "stock" computers that fit the above description will do what I want, that's excellent. I'm just not sure if I'll need to be customizing stuff.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey!
Don't think of this of being rude.. But there is a really nice gaming computer that came out a couple of weeks ago. Its the New Gateway FX. It runs about $1,299.99 I believe. Now don't let that scare you away. This comes with a HD Radion 4850 in it. A really nice Graphics card. Not only that it has the NEW Intel i7 Quad Core, that runs at 2.6 Ghz. I have done many Services on the FX, and its a fast computer, and the thing is it can go even faster. It holds a 3gb of ram, With a 750 GB Hdd? And 2 HDD spots in the front. For even more space! Also has a couple of other neat features, but I think you got the point.
If I had the money this is the computer that I would buy. Also with your budget, Best Buy is having the 18 Months finance with 0% interest rates. I would do that but I have to be 18 for a credit card >.>. Hope this helps =]

  • Help buying a new iMac

    Hello,
As the subject points out I'm looking to buy a new iMac but even after over a month of debating what iMac to buy I'm still puzzled. This machine will be a gaming machine, spec:
    iMac 27-inch
    2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    1TB Serial ATA Drive
    VS
    iMac 27-inch
    2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x2GB
    1TB Serial ATA Drive
    VS
    iMac 27-inch
    2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    4GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    256GB Solid State Drive
    VS
    iMac 27-inch
    2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x2GB
    256GB Solid State Drive
The SSD adds a lot more to the final price and I don't know if it is worth it... Me and my wife play World of Warcraft (aka WoW) so the i7 is a must and the I know for a fact that WoW is RAM hungry as well, hence why I'm thinking 8GB of RAM(I know I can upgrade later ... ). But still the SSD...? I have upgraded my MacBook Pro 5.5 (mid 2009) to a crucial SSD and I am very pleased with it, but will it make the same difference on the iMac? The i7, 8GB RAM, SSD is affordable but ... the price makes me think twice.
I am really stuck, I want to order it but don't quite know what to do...

As you know a SSD is great for startup and opening Apps and files beyond that that there isn't major advantage. Where you benefit from a SSD is by installing the OS, Apps and critical files onto the SSD and use the internal HD only for storage. If you are in the habit of turning off your computer nightly (Apple recommends you leave it on 24/7 in the manual) then the SSD would be nice. Also if you are in the habit of opening files and apps very frequently then again the SSD would be a nice asset. IMHO though SSD's are nice but a luxury and not necessary due to their costs. My opinion mirrors my financial status, however once they are considered more mainstream and less expensive I will probably jump in myself.
So my recommendations would be to get option #2:
    iMac 27-inch
    2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
    8GB 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x2GB
    1TB Serial ATA Drive
however DO NOT purchase the RAM from Apple. RAM is user upgradeable and won't affect your warranty. It takes 5 minutes to do. SImply purchase RAM from a reputable source like Crucial or OWC.

Hello i buy  a new macbook air white i5 ivy bridge processor and when i play a game the cpu themperature is 88-100c it is normal?

One thing I should add. While "normal", it doesn't make it preferrrable that you should be always running near the maximum capability of the unit. The new 2012 MBA's are outfitted with CPU's that have a maximum running temp of 115 degrees C. (the 2011's were rated at 100 degrees C.)
At, or near this point, the CPU will shut down the system to safeguard from overheating. Right under this point the system's fan will be running at top speed. Any mechanical device, run at or near it's capability will undergo accelerated wear. Just how much in this situation is unknown. as such, I don't use my MBA as a full-time gaming rig. I try and keep it sensible.
The MBA is not really designed for gaming, but it's competent performance sometimes lures us to use it as such.

  • Looking to buy a new iMac 27"

Hi to all and thanks for looking,
As the subject suggests I'm on the edge of buying a new iMac 27" i7 with 8GB of RAM but what puts me off at the moment is the Graphics Card. I mean ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics with 512MB is the best Apple can do on such a beast? Any news on a new Graphs Card or maybe a option where you can choose a better Graphs Card? I intend to use this machine for gaming, DX11 would also be nice....
    Many thanks in advance!

Better to post this on the iMac Intel forum

My two cents. I'd wait for some revisions. I've heard from a tech that they are still suffering from various problems, the flickering screen among them.

  • DTT2500 5.1 Speakers to work with a New Gaming PC

Hi, I've had the Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500 Desktop Theater 5.1 for approximately 10'years now. I've just brought a new gaming PC with onboard audio but cannot get DTT2500 to work in 5.1. The new pc has the ASUS Maximus Ranger VII motherboard. So is there a good sound card that will utilise my DTT2500 setup to work with this motherboard or do I need to buy a new 5.1 speaker set? Any help is very much appreciated.

Hi Colin, Thankyou for responding. I've tried the onboard settings but sound does not come out individually during the 5.1 tests through the pc audio tests. More than one speaker responds. It does not work at all when I put in the digital digital din lead that is connected to a standard mini audio jack in any of the pc audio outlets. To get sound from the PC I have the line out (PC) to line in (Dtt2500) and rear out (PC) to rear in (Dtt2500). Can you offer me any other cable configure meant or if I need a specific pcie card to get it working correctly? Thanks again for responding so quickly

ok, so i bought a imac 27 about 4 months ago, and now they release a new one!  ****... So my question is, should I sell this one (which by the way is the i5 2.8 with 1 gb 5750 and 4gb ram) and buy the new imac 27 i5,or keep the one i have and buy more ram. I mostly use my computer for photoshop cs5 and illustrator cs5 for graphics out put as well as surfing the web and music.
Please give me you thoughts on what I should do!!  Thanks  lot!

The new iMac is about 25% or so faster than your current iMac(comparable model would be the 3.1ghz version). There are a couple of things that you will benefit from such as the dual Thunderbolt/Mini Display ports/ which may help with multitasking. The video card in the new iMac again the comparable model being the 3.1ghz is a lotttttttt better than the current one that you have. So thinking of the long run those few things may be beneficial for you to upgrade(but it depends on what is important to you).
I had the 2.93ghz i7 version that I just bought in March this year and I turned around and sold it about a week before the new iMac's were announced. I got about $1600 for it, yeah I took a loss but to me it was worth it because my new iMac performs that much better. Now keep in mind I went from i7 to i7...3.4ghz i7 with the 2gb video card. Now I have dual thuderbolt/mini display ports. I have noticed significant gains in my video editing and also in my gaming. So to me it was definitely worth the upgrade!
One last thing, I would not have sold my 2.93 i7 and then bought the 3.1ghz i5, the big reason is because HT(hyper threading), it's only on the i7 model(3.4ghz)... If you take a look at some of the bench marks on engadget, maclife, macrumors, macworld, ****Barefeats.com(they really get into benchmarking)*** you will see charts that will help you make a better decision.
In closing I would say look into it, if you can get a good price out of your current iMac to put toward a new iMac then do it. Like others have mentioned to you, tech changes and Apple will change the tech in these machines next year or do a speed bump later this year or so. One last thing if you go from the 2.8 i5 up to the 3.4 i7, you would definitely see the difference (HT is a must especially for programs that utilize it. You can go to my youtube channel(mob1278) and take a look at my geekbench results.... my 2.93 i7 scored around 10500-11000(8gb ram)...my 3.4 i7 scores from 12700-13000 with 4gb ram....so yeah as you can see big difference. Basically the 3.4 i7 would perform similar or just under a 2.4ghz 8core 2010 Mac Pro which runs you about $3500 with no monitor.... it's your money spend it how you want....and Lion is only going to push it even more when it is released!

  • Be careful with these new "gaming laptops"

I was pleasantly surprised to see quite a few new "gaming laptops" being advertised on the website.  Sony, Toshiba, and even Samsung have started off the new year by offering some really interesting new products.  While I am happy to see this new dedication to the gaming genre of computer, I really want to warn potential buyers of the pitfalls associated with these machines.
Lets start with the good-The new computers are boasting some good power, including the newest and most advanced processors (i5 and i7).  Pretty much all of these models use DDR3 ranging from 4-6 gigs...not too shabby.  Some other nice features include very stunning screens, blue tooth, etc.
A good gaming laptop is usually composed of 3 major elements (debatable): 1. A good processor 2. A decent amount of RAM 3. A good graphics card.  Similar to the fire triangle, one weak or absent component makes the structure crash.  And this is the Achilles heal of the new Sony, Toshiba, and Samsung "gaming laptops."
Enter the Nvidia 330m and 360m graphics card.  For those loosely keeping track of Nvidia mobile graphics cards, the 260m is one of the more recent ones to be released, so naturally the 330m and 360m SOUND better than the 260m.  Well...yes and no.  For simplicity sake, lets compare 3 graphics cards: GTS 360m found in the Toshiba, the GT330m found in the Sony, and the GTX 260m found in the Asus.
The GTS 360m is essentially the same chip as the GTS 260m, ranked #25 as a class 1 chip, only just above the GTS 260m.  The GT 300m is surprisingly only a class 2 chip (midrange) and ranked #51.  Finally, the GTX 260m..............................................................class 1 chip, ranked #19.
So which one is the best to get?  There are 3 Toshiba "gaming laptops" currently out and each has a $400 price difference between them.  They all have the same graphics card and the only difference is that the middle one has a better processor and the best one has more ram.  The graphics card is...decent and the processor is more than adequate.  The Sony has a good processor but the graphics card is very week for a top of the line gaming notebook.  Finally, the Asus has a slightly older processor and only 4gb of RAM, but the graphics card is the best.  Unfortunately, Asus computers at Best Buy have not had a very good reliability rating.
For someone like me currently in the market for a gaming notebook, I have seen Toshiba make their move, I've seen Sony make their move, so now I am going to wait and see if Asus makes their move anytime soon (which I do expect to happen).  If Asus does not come out with a new computer within a month, I will probably get the lower end Toshiba, just because it is more reliable than the Asus and not too overly expensive.
Please feel free to write your own opinions on my opinions stated here.

I haven't fully tested out the graphics, but for basic things its keeping up just fine. High settings on basic games like wow and dragon age are running flawlessly. Haven't tried anything more demanding. I would never say a laptop would be a top of the line gaming system because the majority of gamers use desktops for true gaming because of the expandability and upgrade capability. It's still nice to have a computer that can keep up with day to day use and still be able to play something when I feel like it, or stream hulu on a dual monitor set up while I do other things without issues. It sure is a jump up in performance from my older ati card. So is it a gaming laptop, sure. Is it going to do what a true gamer would need it to, nope, but somebody who is investing in a computer only for high performance gaming wouldn't buy a laptop.

I want to buy a new apple tv but it used hdmi cables and my house is only wired for analog.  Is there any way I can use the apple tv on analog cables?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
    It's do-able, but I don't think it's a great idea.
    DVI
Some users with DVI have managed to get their TV's to work with DVI-HDMI cables. DVI carries no audio, so alternative connections need to be explored to enable audio. DVI doesn't necessarily support HDCP as well as other standards used by HDMI (which may or may not be an issue)
    Analogue
There are hardware converters that will convert HDMI to various other types of output, however there are some issues with doing so that you should be aware of.
    HDCP
HDCP compliant converters will not allow you to watch HDCP protected content such as that from the iTunes Store. Non compliant converters exist but we cannot discuss them under the Terms of Use for these communities.
    Resolution and aspect ratio
I'm not aware of any converters that will scale the output from the Apple TV, any TV or projector which is used will need to be widescreen and support resolutions of 720p (Apple TV 2), 720p/1080p (Apple TV 3)
    DAC
DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances)
