Buying a new mobo - any suggestions?

Im thinking of replacing my MSI i975x PUE and wondered if you have any suggestions to a new mobo?
I was thinking about the XFX 680i SLI, but since Im pretty familiar with the MSI board, it would maybe be a good idea to stick with that instead.
Is the overclocking pretty much the same or totally different with new MSI mobos?
So whats the very best (DDR2) MSI board at the moment? It must be SLI since Im thinking of buying another 8800GTS in the future. Is SLI working well on MSI boards?
And the new mobo must also be very overclocking friendly
Ive managed to get my i975x up to 3GHz, running an Intel C2D E6400 (2.13GHz stock) and since Im thinking of buying the Intel C2D E6850; will i975x still be a good choice? Maybe I`ll just keep it?

Edit (again); Im thinking of buying the E6850 CPU for a start and see how that affect my rig. Maybe I dont need anything else than that. Ive got a very good and stable overclock, and with a 6850 onboard I think maybe it will be enough. Any thoughts about that CPU on this mobo?

IPod won't work on new computer - any suggestions?

I recently got a new computer (Sony Vaio) with Windows 7. I copied all my music to my new laptop okay, but when I plug in my iPod mini to the laptop, I get a blue screen of error messages. I've tried updating iTunes and everything, but still get that same blue screen.
I didn't know if the iPod mini is so old that it isn't compatible with Windows 7 or what? Any suggestions? Other than buy a new iPod - haha

I am having trouble connecting my old ipod touch 2gen to the new itunes, any suggestions.

I have a new desktop and I installed the new itunes 64 bit to it but now I can't connect my old ipod touch 2gen to it, it says that the required software is not installed. To run itunes installer and it will remove this and install the 64 bit software. Which is already installed. Any suggestions as to how to fix this, or is it a lost cause?

What year, screen size, CPU speed and amount of RAM installed?
To find out info about your system,
Click on the Apple symbol in the upper left of the OS X main menu bar. A drop down menu appears.
Click About this Mac. A smaller popup window appears. This gives you basic info like what version of OS X your iMac is running, the speed of your iMac's CPU and how much RAM is installed.
Click on the button that says More Info. A larger window appears giving you a complete overview of your iMac's hardware specs.
Highlight all of this info and copy/paste all of this into another reply to this post, editing out your iMac's serial number before actually posting the reply.
This will tell us everything about your iMac so we may begin to help with your iMac issues.
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Locate your iMac's hard drive icon on the OS X desktop. Click the icon once, then use the keyboard key combination Command-I. This will give you additonal info about your iMac's internal hard drive.

Here are some general tips to keep your Mac's hard drive trim and slim as possible
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
To find other large files, download an app called Omni Disk Sweeper.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.

Just bought new nano - any suggestions/ tips on setup

After purchasing an iPad 2 weeks ago I am now hooked on Apple and have just bought a new 6th gen nano. Does any one have any suggestions/ tips before I set it up. I ask because I know with the iPad there were a few things that would have helped me prior to setting it up. It is an 8gb nano.

I don't think there is anything you really need to worry about before setting it up. However, it might be a good idea to download a copy of the iPod's User Guide.

Secondly I wanted to buy this ram kit on the mobo CMY16GX3M2A1600C9R.But,the support guide says it supports only the same kit with 1866 mhz clock.Why only this model when the two kits are identical...? Will I have problem if I put the 1600mhz one?
Last one support says specifications says that the mobo supports only dual channel but the cmz16gx3m41600c9 the support guide includes is a quad channel kit ...?Explain this to me.You place them as two "dual" channels?

Testing memory takes so much time. I personal wouldnt trust those support specs for memory as you could still have memory compatible problem on your hand. Even memory made in same line may not work with your MB + they both might work with your board but they wouldnt work to gether. There thes dualchannel, threechannel or quad channel kits comes to help. They are tested together and so are most like to work together with out problems that you could have if you boy them one by one. But still they could have combatiple problem with your Board and thats why good sale take them back and give you another one without cost.
So Quadchannel kits are just kits that have memory in that should work together.

I read the corsair report about the problem with haswell cpus and indeed they say the only problem is the sleep mode.Thing is I never have my PC on sleep.If there isn't music or torrent active then I turn it off.I will also check my PSU voltages and then think about it.
As for the PSU.I got it as a gift from the friend technician that put my PC together 4 years ago.He has it as stock from his previous job.As I was really hardware noob back then so he just told me ..." the fail safe will drop when you turn him on.Do not bricks,just turn it on again".

Hey guys. First post on here. I am upgrading from my WNDR4500. I am hoping to get range throughout my house but most of all better signal quality not just strength. Anyways, I have decided to buy the WRT 1900ac because of the range, but also the new AC protocol that will be around for the next few years.
Is there anything I should take note of when selecting a device from the shelf? I know netgear has a V1 and V2 hardware revisions etc. Any special serial numbers or product numbers I should check for? Also, should I update the router firmware or should I just leave it as from the factory. I will not be using the USB or eSata ports. It will purely be just for wired/wireless internet. Thanks guys!
One more thing. . Should I upgrade to the latest DR-WRT before I settle down with everything? Also, am I able to restore or upgrade to older or newer firmware versions or is it not able to go backwards in updates.

Theres only Rev A for the 1900AC. No information if Linksys will do a Rev B or not.
I recommend updating to the latest FW availalbe for the Linksys router if you get it as it fixed a few things seen in earlier version.
To safely update FW, I recommend doing the following: Download the FW file from the support site first.
1. Save router config to file first using IE or FF with all security add-ons disabled.
2. Factory reset the router with all other devices disconnected or turned OFF accept for 1 wired PC.
3. Reload or Update the FW using IE or FF. Just download the FW file to your local wired LAN PC.
4. Factory reset the router and then set up from scratch first and test with out loading the saved config from file. Check to see if any problems are fixed before loading the saved config from file. Sometimes you need to set up from scratch with out loading the saved config file. Just safer that way.
Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

I bought my nephew a new ipod touch 16gb to replace his 8gb. Can't seem to get all songs or apps to transfer from the old one to the new? Any suggestions

I tried using itunes on his computer and it transferred his pictures and 25 of his 34 songs. None of the apps transferred so when we got to where we had wi-fi I enabled ICloud on both ipods. The new ipod shows where the original was backed up but it didn't add anything to the new ipod. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.

If he still has his or your itunes user and password on his iTunes app, iTunes should let you redownload it again FREE OF CHARGE. Any paid apps you already paid for, will reinstall for FREE.

I just got my wife a Macbook air, and cannot figure out why our shared calendars work with both of our Ipads and Iphones, on my icloud account but not her account or her new air.

This is a huge problem for me because I do all my office scheduling on the iPad or iPhone but rely on the MakeBookPro to print out daily client lists. ITouch Apps not working on new 32G - any suggestions?

Son has same problem with 32G iTouch he got for Christmas, was working fine til today. Now when he trys to open the apps it opens for 1 sec then goes back to screen. Can see on various sites lots of similar problems. Have tired reseting, and syncing and also authorising computer, deselecting apps then re-selecting and then syncing again, all to no avail and is now driving me mental. It was a very expensive gift NOT to work. Any other suggestions welcome.

I had this before and I finally figured it out. On the apps icon, there might be a number. that number is the amount of updates for your apps that you have downloaded. The apps have to be kept up to date by allowing the apps program to run. so select apps icon and then select update. that should be all you have to do. That was the answer for me. sorry such a late reply, hope it can help

Hi I'm trying to accomplish a view that looks something like this

I cant seem to find any layout that allows me to do this.
I first started of trying to set the Layout as null and the doing direct Placement.
But It doesnt work, nothing shows up on the panel.
this is my code.

panel.add(mainLabel);

But no label shows up, am I doing something wrong while adding the label, cos' when I remove the setLayout(null) it shows up.
Also if anyone can give me some other idea how to implement this type of view I will greatly appreciate it.

Adding the line mainLabel.setSize(20, 20); will make your label visible.
(I chose 20 arbitararily - you can choose one appropriately)
But I am curious about the arrangement (view) you are attempting to develop. I couldnt really understand the diagram or the significance of the code posted to bring about the arrangement in the diagram.

Microtek ScanMaker from G4 is useless on new iMac - any suggestions?

Microtek seems to have no flatbed scanners that run on SnowLeopard. Was going to try running anyway but got warning from OS not to download drivers onto iMac.
any workarounds? I'm fanatically against landfill, the scanner works great, ah, but for the drivers and software....

Have you tried Image Capture that comes as part of Snow Leopard. Default location is in SL's Applications Folder.
Alternatively you could try Vuescan - a paid for app but you can run it in demo mode to see if it works before buying. Available from: http://hamrick.com/ (needless to say, I've no connection with his software, just offering up a possible solution)
