Buying a shuffle

I currently use a 4G 40GB iPod that has been in the "shop" too many times,,, I'm stuck without my 'pod' and about to go on a weeklong business trip. This is not acceptable.
I'm going to purchase a Shuffle as a backup to the iPod - Will installation guide me easily to give the Shuffle its own name and not be confused with the other iPod that runs off my library? I'll continue to use the one library on my PC for both .... THanks for the reply....

BP,
I assume you already have iTunes on your Sony (to service your 4G iPod), and that it's the latest version (4.7.1). If so, don't bother loading the program again from the CD that comes with your Shuffle. Just plug in the Shuffle and iTunes should ask you to register it, and then name it -- give it a different name from the 4G iPod. Once that's done both iPods should appear in iTune's Source List -- I'd suggest not having them both plugged in at the same time.

  • Want to buy iPod shuffle

Hi, i'm going to buy ipod shuffle, and i wanted to know if the new generation is coming out soon. Anyone knows anything about that?

Probably not, Apple released new colors just last year.
    Buy here: http://store.apple.com/us/buy-ipod/ipod-shuffle

  • Dont want to buy the shuffle yet..

Hi, I really want to purchase the Ipod shuffle 1GB BUT i dont want to buy one and then see a new model come out a week later or see the price drop the next day! I currently have a 3G ipod 20GB and I have enjoyed it but Im giving it away to my sister since I want something smaller and better for workouts and I dont care about the display too much. I never look at it anyway. Any advice on whether I should wait or not? Anybody know anything about a new one coming out?? Thanks a lot!

I agree with the others, get Apple's sportcase or Otterboxes Shuffle case (both $30).
Otterboxes is submersible, nice if you can find a pair of waterproof headphones for swimming, but it is a little bulkier than Apple's and not quite as elegant looking.

  • Where in the uk can i buy a shuffle - all stores seem to have sold out

Can anyone help  cant seem to get one anywhere!

Thanks but this didn't really help.
I can buy the drives at a dozen places but none of them seem to know what connection is correct (SATA etc) and that includes the apple store. It was the store who told me buy the superdrive and all my problems would be over. Wrong! It isn't recognised by imac as it's confifured for air and mini mac. Only way to make it work is as i said in earlier post. (Would you be happy buying a car you were told would start and then discover you have to open the bottome and fiddle to make it go?)
The apple store I would not even consider taking it to. Days without the pc, over priced and don't have a good reputation for actually fixing things!
    But thanks

  • Shuffle functionality not considered in iTunes Upgrade

Upon agreeing to let iTunes update the new 8.1.1.10 version, I found a disappointing change. Almost nothing about iTunes changed, my libraries were intact, my playlists were still there and populated, and my settings and preferences were unchanged.
I use a 2nd Generation shuffle and mostly listen to podcasts. I'm probably in the minority, because this has happened before. A previous iTunes upgrade took away the ability to load the iPod with podcasts in my chosen order and then have them play in that order. For some reason, they would always automatically revert to reverse chronological order or Release Date once the iPod was undocked. I couldn't change it. It was annoying, but I learned to live with it.
Now, with the latest upgrade, I cannot right click on podcasts on the iPod when it is docked, and see where they are located in the playlists (in fact, the right click menu on iPod podcasts is not the same as the right click menu on playlist podcasts anymore, and it used to be). I cannot copy podcasts from the docked iPod to another playlist. Play count does not transfer from the computer to the iPod, and I cannot click to play podcasts on the iPod (so that I can continue a half complete podcast while recharging my iPod using the PC's speakers).
I believe that there is no fix for these problems. I suspect that Apple has decided that shuffle users are not their most profitable customer base. It's true, once I buy the shuffle, I get everything for free. I use their most inexpensive product as an audio public (free) library. I suspect that Apple feels that the lowest tier customers like myself are not worth supporting.
Certainly, it's probably more fun to create apps for the iPhone and iPod touch. I am disappointed to be relagated to the rubbish bin of the customer base, even though I've been an ardent supporter of the technology. I would request that future iTunes updates at least do not erode functions of the shuffle when used with podcasts.
If I'm wrong that there is no fix, please tell me how to restore these functions to my docked shuffle.
Thank you, and you still have an awesome product even with my complaints.

Does "Copy to Play Order" not work? If you right-click or control-click on a playlist, the Copy to Play Order menu choice appears. I haven't tried it yet, but I've seen others post about it.

  • Shuffle not working on Windows XP laptop

I'm going to sound like a broken record given the other posts already here, but here it goes....
My new shuffle is not recognized by my laptop (Win XP, SP2). I have attempted to use fixes outlined by Apple (as pointed out in other posts such as reseting the shuffle, restarting my laptop, changing power save modes, etc.) I have also attempted to fix the problem using Apple info specific to Toshiba laptops (disable USB hardware labeled as enhanced or high speed, restart, try plugging in) and no luck.
I have also tried fixes found by other users to get the job done. However, my shuffle does not show up under disk management and no other fixes worked (stopping, starting, restarting services, among others).
I have updated to iTunes 5 and have the latest iPod updater ready to go, neither sees the shuffle. When I reboot my shuffle will appear as an unknown USB device, but I can't do anything with it.
All other times, my shuffle will produce a message from the system tray saying there was trouble installing new hardware (this is 99% of the time). Then it just sits there flashing amber. I like that color, but I was really hoping the shuffle would do more than blink (as in play music). Thanks to anyone who can tell me what is happening.

When I installed iTunes 5, I uninstalled the previous iTunes and quicktime before doing so to make it a fresh install. I have also tried disabling my antivirus and firewall (both Norton).
I even tried using msconfig to disable anything that didn't belong to microsoft or apple in the services and startup programs with no luck.
I have zero devices hooked up to my laptop via USB right now. The only thing I hook up using USB is my camera and that's only when I have pictures to upload. At first I was connecting the shuffle directly into the ports on my laptop (one on the side, two on the back, I've tried all of them). The laptop does not prevent my shuffle from plugging in, but I did end up buying a shuffle dock to make sure. This made no difference.
I do have a wireless b card plugged into my PCMCIA slot. I have tried doing things without this plugged in and no difference.
I should have mentioned before, but forgot, I already had iTunes and used my laptop with an older 15GB iPod. This has always worked, but I always used firewire to transfer music.

  • Waterproof case for shuffle.  4th generation?

I want to buy a shuffle and a waterproof case so my husband can swim laps with music.  I saw a waterproof case at H20 audio, but it says it needs a 4th generation shuffle.  Is the shuffle at the apple website a 4th generation?  H20audio sells a case that comes with a shuffle, but I prefer to buy from apple.  Can you help me?  Please , Barb

There are plenty of swimmers (myself included) which use the Waterfi Waterproofing solution for the iPod suffle. Not only does it make the suffle compeletly waterproof but it also comes with an awesome pair of waterproof headphones.

  • Downloading songs to two ipod shuffles.

Someone told me that you can only put songs from your computer onto 1 ipod. Is that true? I want to buy a shuffle for my wife and myself. If I download my playlist to her I-Pod will I be unable to play them on mine?

Untrue. You can use more than 1 ipod on the same computer.

  • I have a 3rd generation iPod shuffle. I lost my earphones few days back. Now I want to purchase one with songs control in the earphone. I asked Apple customer center, they told Apple has stopped manufacturing those. Please help me in getting one.

  • Can I download songs from iTunes used for my 80GB to a shuffle?

I want to know if I buy a shuffle can I download songs from my iTunes for my 80GB iPod? Will it mess anything up trying to download to the two separate devices? Also, can I upload my playlist from my 80GB iPod to another computer and then download from that computer to a shuffle?
    Thanks,
    tim

In the simplest terms, one PC/Mac, many iPods.
Many PCs/Macs, then you must use manual mode.
The exception being the Shuffles. They only work with one machine at a time.

  • IPod shuffle isn't recognised neither by iTunes nor Windows XP

I have tried (3 times now) to raise this issue with Apple Support (via iPod shuffle Repair and Accessory Replacement service) and I keep getting setting the Shuffle Dock - which is very nice but it doesn't resolve my problem
I've detailed the problem(s) in the on-line Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Repair Status system ... and I've tried 4 out of the 5 Rs the latest error I got (using the Dock(s) was :
iPod Service Error- and therefore I cannot run the iPod updater ... so no Shuffle
... p.s. it would be nice to have a telephone no. to talk to someone about this as it is obviously costing Apple money sending out the wrong parts ... a few more and I could buy another shuffle !
Has anyone else come across this issue -
    iPod Shuffle   Windows XP

  • Unable to re-install ITunes: MSVCR80.dll, error 7 Windows 126

I recieved the following message: The program can't start vecause MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinsalling the program to fix this problem.
I did try the un-install and reinstall and still get the same results.
My IPOD is a Shuffle. The only thing that comes to mind is that I tried to charge it over night on my hardrive. It did not charge. So is it possible that in doing that it caused another issue?
Right now my only option I believe is to buy another Shuffle.

Solving the iTunes Installation Problems in Windows
    1. Apple has posted their solution here: iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows- Unable to install or open - MSVCR80 issue.
    2. If the Apple article does not fully resolve the problem for you, then try Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - MSVCR80.

  • Get a load of this

So my 20gb iPod kicked the bucket a few days ago and I go out and buy a shuffle. I get it home and find the shuffle cant connect to my eMac due to its design. My keyboard is a MacAlly keyboard with USB 1.0 so that wont work either. I go and pull out the keyboard that came with the computer. It has USB 1.1 ... anyway it allowed me to connect the iPod to the computer and transfer songs. Except the keyboard's USB ports aren't high power so it wont charge the shuffle. So I go out and buy a USB extender so I can plug my shuffle into the computer's port. Well it didn't work in 2 of the 3 ports, but the last one i tried worked. Funny thing is it charges but the computer doesnt recognize the shuffle no matter what I do. So I have to charge it with the computer's port and transfer songs through the keyboard port. A bit of a pain in the arse.
    Hehe... gotta love technology.

  • Volume and Track Issue

Since buying my Shuffle, I have been very disappointed in a couple of things. First, When I shut my Shuffle OFF, the voume seems to default back to very low, when I turn it back on. In iTunes,it is set and locked to MAX allowable volume. is there any way to correct this, so the Volume returns to the level when turned off?
Second disappointment is that the when I shut the Shuffle off, it basically starts at any tune randomly. My Classic, would start at the same tune all the time. Any way to resolve that issue?

Odd, my new 4th Gen Shuffle seems to do both things you want it to do in that it starts up where ever it last left off and the volume remains set the same as well.
So the next question is, when you shut it off, are you also plugging it into your computer to sync up? Vs. Simply shutting it off, then turning it back on a little bit later without ever having plugged it into your computer.
