Buying a VZW iPhone today WITHOUT an upgrade? Dont buy it from VZW!
Yup imagine my surprise when I was told numerous times the only place to preorder this phone was from VZW website (even still on their on hold message this moring when you call in) only to find that teh !%#%@#%@ phone I woke up at 2:50 AM to order is $50 CHEAPER at APPLE with free shipping also! UNREAL! Also my order is slated to SHIP on the 10th. {word filter avoidance} was the point in pre ordering to get it AFTER everyone else !?
I'm LIVID. I've waited FOUR YEARS for this phone just paid ~$800 for it and the guy I talked to at VZW customer service (while VERY nice) didnt seem to really care that not only I got shafted for $50 but also not getting it early.

This is where you do research. it was all over the news, and the web that you could pre-order from apple.
And, it says that as the ship date because that is when the phone is "officially' in the system.
Read the FAQ your phone will be there on or before the 10th.

Photos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
When connecting a new iPhone with iTunes that was/is used for syncing with another iPhone, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or set up the iPhone as a new iPhone. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll are included with the iPhone's backup and you chose to transfer the backup for your iPhone 3G to your iPhone 4 which replaced the Camera Roll comtents on your iPhone 4 with the Camera Roll contents on your 3G or that are incuded with the backup for your 3G. Had you selected to set up your iPhone 4 as a new iPhone instead, the Camera Roll contents that were on your iPhone 4 would not have been touched.
If you didn't import the photos that were in the Camera Roll with your iPhone 4 before choosing to transfer the backup for your iPhone 3G, the photos are gone and cannot be recovered. iTunes did what you instructed it to do. -
Need to ask a question about getting the iPhone 5 without an upgrade available.
Alright so I have currently an iPhone 4S and do NOT have an upgrade available. My question is how do i go about buying the 5 then? From what I know, Apple sells "unlocked" phones at around $750 (I want the 32gig version) but wont come out on launch day. Is there a Verizon specific phone that I can get instead of an "unlocked" phone that would cost cheaper and I can get it on launch day? Or do I have to preorder it through verizon's website?
Another thing is...is there certain fee's that I would have to pay to go along with the phone if I can buy it?Pernoe: I'm no expert, but this is the way I understand unlocked phones. Unlocked phones that use GSM technology can work on either T-Mobile or AT&T networks. Unlocked phones that use CDMA technology can work on either Sprint or Verizon networks. I can't tell you the difference between GSM and CDMA... I just don't really know what it is, just that AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM and Sprint and Verizon use CDMA.
That being said, I purchased (or at least ordered... my credit card has not been charged yet) 2 iPhone 5's from Verizon and opted to pay full price instead of taking the contract discount. You don't need to buy an unlocked phone to pay full price. You just have to select "month-to-month" pricing instead of "2 year contract" pricing when you buy the phone. -
Cannot upgrade iTunes to 11.2.2 and cannot sync my iPhone 4 without iTunes upgrade?
I can't sync my iPhone 4 to my MacBook anymore. I get an iTunes message that I need to upgrade but my system check says I have all the upgrades. I tried to download iTunes 11.2.2 but my Mac can't handle it (OS X 10.5.8). Am I stuck in a 'Catch 22' here? Is this related to upgrading the phone to 7?
The issue is your Mac's version of OS X is too old. (Thank you for posting it!).
The current version of iTunes (11.2.2) requires at least OS X 10.6.8 to run. (The current version of OS X is 10.9.3.).
If your Mac is too old, you may have an issue. You might consider upgrading your Mac if you can. At a minimum, you would need to purchase Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6, sold below), and then update it to OS X 10.6.8.

Am I going to get my iphone 5s unlocked by default since I didn't choose any carrier plan?

Meg makes a very good point, not to be ignored just to save some $$. If the phone cannot have been legally off-contract for at least another year, you must be absolutely sure that some provider somewhere will activate it.
Else you have a $450 (assuming you can find that price) paperweight. -

I have changed my apple id, and its ok when i sync my Iphone with Itunes, but ON my Iphone still my old apple-ID is there. I can NOT buy things from Itunes or Upgrade anything now, how to fix this?
I recently changed my email address and want to change my Apple ID account to match. I have created a new Apple ID to match the new account but now I can't sign into iCloud on our phones or computer with the old Apple ID. I can't make any changes on iCloud on our phones because it directs me to the old account, which I can't sign into. I also can't sign me in on my computer to make any changes. Help!!! But as far as i read on the internet even if you buy without a contract the phones come with an at&t simlock. Is it possible to buy an iPhone 4 without a simlock in the USA?
ThanksHi Cagri, Yes good for you doing some research before you buy. As stated the US iPhone is simlocked and cannot be officially unlocked. If you are going to be close to Canada you can buy a unlocked phone from an Apple Retail Store. If you do so, please bring a micro sim from your carrier to ensure it will work before you head home. Also note that is you buy an iPhone from another country, if any warranty issues you will need to ship the phone to someone you know in that country, Canada or UK, and have them bring it to Apple for service. All at your expense. While you may be initially saving 1/3 of the cost, it could cost you much more down the road.

If I buy a used iPhone 4 without a data plan will the GPS work?
I live in Canada and am a complete newbie when it comes to cell phones and data plans. I am not interested in having or paying for cellular telephone capability.
I've been using the 64 Gb iPod Touch 4 but detest its 0.7 Mb still camera and bemoan its lack of GPS.
Now that the iPhone 4S has been released, there are many folks selling their older iPhone 4s. I'd love to use one of these older iPhone units with their better camera and GPS capability, but don't want to pay for a data plan, nor am I willing to pay $850 for an unlocked iPhone 4S. I'm happy to continue using wireless internet and don't need a cell phone.
Being a newbie when it comes to data plans and cell phones, if I purchase a used iPhone 4 from someone:
1. Does it need a SIM card (activated or not) to use the GPS on it? If yes, must a deactivated SIM card be provided by the seller or where can I obtain one?
2. Does the iPhone 4 need to be on a cellular plan to use the GPS?
3. I can use a deactivated iPhone 4 on WiFi only as I've been doing with the iPod Touch 4, correct?
4. If I can use a deactivated, non-contract iPhone 4 on WiFi only, will the GPS work and allow me to use GPS-enabled apps? If yes, does it somehow still "tie"into available local cell networks to achieve a position without me paying for (or being registered for) cellular access?
5. Can future iOS upgrades (say to iOS5) still be performed on a deactivated iPhone 4 without a cell plan?
6. Do I need to purchase the iPhone 4 from a Canadian seller given my above questions? What other questions do I need to ask of the seller when looking for a used iPhone 4?

I do use offline maps (topographical and street maps) on my iPod Touch 4 outdoors (not needing a signal, WiFi or cellular). I also have a hand-held Garmin GPS receiver but would rather use the GPS in the iPhone (its positional accuracy, while likely being lower than that obtained from my Garmin, is likely sufficient for my needs).
I guess that one of the questions that I was asking is if I were to purchase a used iPhone 4 from someone, and the SIM card have been removed, would the device's GPS still work with GPS-enabled apps (albiet without the cellular-assist)?
Can any pay-as-you-go SIM card be purchased for and used in a deactivated iPhone4? Would this even be necessary for the GPS?

Remember that the warranty on an iPhone purchased in the US is valid only in
the US and 4G/LTE probably will not work in your location.

Somehow my iPad got switched for messaging to showing from my email. There is no option showing to use my phone number. How do I get it back to my phone number? This happened when I upgraded my iPhone today, but the iPhone messaging is using the phone number fine. It's only the iPad messaging that is messed up. Help, pls.
