Buying an Airport Express in China Covered By Warranty?

I've owned my macbook for about 8 months now, when i purchased it i also got the applecare 2 year warranty. I know this warranty covers many things that go along with the macbook.
I'm currently on a study abroad summer program here in xiaoshan, china where i stumbled into a "PC MALL" kinda district and a found an "Authorized Apple Reseller Store"
It's kinda small but there sell many things that the Apple store back in California would sell as well, including Macbooks, iPods and all the extras.
Well, I noticed they are selling Airport Express there and I'm positive I can get it for a great price here but was wondering if my AppleCare would cover it too?
Say I have problems with it in the future back in the states, and I want applecare to help me out, they will right? It is after all an apple product. right?
Or will they want to see a receipt and such? I dont think i'd even plan telling Apple that i bought it overseas, since after all, it is an Apple Product.
I'm heavily concerned about this. Thanks :]

Hi, Bill!  Actually, no--the AE is creating its own wireless network with the same SSID and password as the Time Capsule.  I had big problems with bandwidth degredation when I tried to extend the network like that.
But I believe I tracked down the cause of the issue--the powerline adapter was losing its connection with the other powerline adapter for some reason.  Still observing that one, but all the Apple stuff appears to be operating normally.  Thanks for the replay anyway!

  • I have a Cisco wireless router.  Can I buy an Airport Express plug in booster for a distant part of my house or do I need an Airport Extreme base station instead to make the Airport Express plug in booster work?

Can I buy an Airport Express plug-in wifi signal booster to connect to a Cisco wireless router, or do I have to buy an Airport Extreme base station to make the Airport Express plug-in work?

You would need either an AirPort Extreme or an AirPort Express connected to the Cisco router, with a permanent Ethernet cable connection.
Configure the Extreme or Express that is connected to the Cisco router to "create a wireless network".
Then, you could add an AirPort Express to "extend a wireless network" to provide more wireless coverage for the network that the Extreme or Express would be creating.
Remember that the Express can only "extend" the quality of signal that it receives, so it must be located where it can receive a strong signal from the "main" AirPort.
If you don't need the Cisco wireless signal, you could turn it off.....or use that network for guests or something similar.
The bottom line here......you always need two Apple routers if you want to extend the network wirelessly.

  • Hi, I'm thinking of buying the Airport Express or Extreme for my school dormitory, would i need to plug them into the already existing school internet via LAN cable or do the products just work by themselves?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying the Airport Express or Extreme for my school dormitory, would i need to plug them into the already existing school internet via LAN cable or do the products just work by themselves?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
AirPort stations aren't modems, so they have to be connected to the modem you are already using. The AirPort Extreme and Express have a WAN port, where you have to plug an Ethernet cable that has to be connected to the modem.
After doing this, you can set up the AirPort station by using AirPort Utility. If you have Windows, download AirPort Utility from the Apple website > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1547

Hi. I am trying to buy the airport express extension power cable separately as I do not need the other cables in the monster kit which is already very overpriced

  • Is it neccessary to buy an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme for my macbook pro to connect WI FI or wireless?

so I have a macbook pro, but i don't know whether i need to buy an AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme to connect to WI FI or wireless.   or i only need to modem??
    HELP!!! :'(

Airport Extreme is used by Apple for its wireless routers and the hardware inside your MacBook Pro that is used to connect to a wired or wireless router. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPort_Extreme#AirPort_Extreme_Base_Station
While Apple would like you to buy everything from them you can use any brand that will work with Macs. My setup is a Qwest DSL modem connected to a NetGear wireless router. The Airport Extreme card inside my MacBook recognizes them without any problems

  • AirPort Express is dead, but under warranty

My airPort Express Base Station does not work. It does not appear anymore, and is apparantly not sending a signal. I have rest it, and tried to troubleshoot it in every way I can think of. I own others that work fine. It is still under warranty with apple, as the receipt says "warranty effective through Jul. 18, 2008." How do I go about the process of having them replace it or fix it?

Gail - the symptoms you describe are far less common, but I think you too have a dead Airport Express. Yes, a software update (or more specifically, a firmware update) gone wrong can easily turn a functional Airport Express into a doorstop.
Try doing a factory reset per:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
If the symptoms persist - get a warranty replacement. Absolutely your Airport Express will be covered for this sort of problem if it is under warranty.

  • What is the best printer to buy for Airport Express printing?

Help! I need a new printer.
    Required features:
    • under $300
    • multi-function (fax not required)
    • auto-document feeder
    • prints 2 sided
    • USB to Airport Express, or itself be wireless printer--(bluetooth seems to not have the range I need: 35-60 feet)
    • affordable ink
    • photo printing a plus, not required
    • color printing a plus, not required.
I bought a Canon PIXMA MP780 only to discover that it is incompatible with Airport Express! The PIXMA MP750 seems an option (for printing only--Airport seems not to work with Scanning). But the 750 seems to be all but unavailable anymore.
I am considering upgrading from my old iBook G3 600mHz to a PowerBook G4, but this shouldn't make much difference regarding which printer to buy.
Any help? What printers have worked well for you?
    Thanks,
    Stephen
    iBook G3 600mHz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   640mb RAM

Obviously I would prefer to be able to use scanning over the wireless, but I am content to plug it in directly as needed, especially if there were a second USB port on the printer.
Do you know this Brother machine you suggest? Do you recommend it? Does it have all the features I mention above?
Do you know the Canon MP750? I am told it does print through Express.
    Thanks for your help.
    Stephen
Do you want all functions of your new all-in-one
printer be accessible over a wireless connection, or
are you content to live with wireless printing but
plugging the printer directly into your Mac's USB
port each time you want to scan something? For all
functions to work over a wireless connection you
    really need a network-ready all-in-one printer - and
finding a good one that costs under $300 could be a
real challenge (the Brother MFC-420CN is one of the
    few).

  • Buying old Airport Express of eBay - Do i need sellers' password?

    Hi,
If i just bought an old Apple Airport Express (The one that actually plugs into that wall) on eBay, do i need to ask for the sellers' password to the Aiport Express in order to connect it to my current wireless network and use airplay to steam music? What im ultimetly asking is: If i get the this airport express and i dont have the password, am i out of luck? Do i even need a password to connect to the aiport ecpress?, or do i just use the password to my current wireless network?
         Thanks, Riley

Perform a Factory Default Reset on the Express as follows to get the device back to new, out of the box settings.
    Power off the Express
    Wait a few minutes
Hold in the reset button first and continue to hold it in for an additional 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the Express
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light
    The Express is now reset
If you are asked for a password, the default is "public" (without the quotes)

  • Should I buy the Airport Express?

My Mac mini will slowly go from four bars to two bars on my families Airlink 101. Should I get a Airport Express? Or should I go for the Extreme? And with the Express could I unplug it at night and then plug it in, in the morning without difficulties?

The AX and AEBS have the same advertised range of your Airlink 101. Therefore it probably would not make a difference.
I suggest that you change the channel used by the Airlink. Hopefully you can find a channel which works better than the one that you are using.

  • Im buying an airport express - coverage

    hi,
my airport express is coming to my house in the next week, but im having some questions. I use to have a dlink 615 router and signal use to be well, which is the coverge of the airport express?, the distance between my bethroom and place of the router is about 50 m, is it going to work well?. Im also conecting a computer to the airport, does that work?. Normally there is 3 devices connected wiressly and 1 wired to the roueter Please try to campare to my dlink router, I need an answer as soon as possible because if that doesnt work there is no way to return the airport because i live in ecuador. here is a link of dlink especifications http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/routers/dir-615-wireless-n-300 -router . Some datails: im going to set up the airport on a windows xp 3 computer. Sorry for my english. Thanks.
    Juan.

Ola - before I can try to help you, I have a few questions -  first of all, what kind of internet service do you have? - is it a cable or DSL modem? -  and are you planning to replace the Dlink router with the Express or use the Express as part of your exisitng network? - and with any wireless device a distance of 50 meters is a long way to expect coverage.

  • Question before i buy the Airport Express

I have a macbook.... the mircosoft laptops have something to where you can have the internet where ever and whenever well does apple have something like that and my question about the airport express... Say i go to the airport and don't want to pay 6.99 for 24 hours of internet use and i'm only there for 2 hours... So is it possible to just plug in the airport express and bam i'll have internet?

Yes, it's usually called a wireless network card
well does apple have something like that
Yes, all Apple Macs have a built-in wireless card
and my question about the airport express... Say i go to the airport
Um... I think you're maybe getting confused over the name "AirPort". It's just a brand name: "Air" because the data travels over the air wirelessly, and "Port" because the point on a router where you connect a computer is called a "port".
It has nothing to do with the place you go to catch a flight on an airplane/aeroplane. Apple's Airport devices are just wireless home routers, just like similar devices from Netgear, D-Link et al.
and don't want to pay 6.99 for 24 hours of internet use and i'm only there for 2 hours... So is it possible to just plug in the airport express and bam i'll have internet?
Not unless you know how to hack into the existing wireless service they already provide, and that wouldn't require the wireless router, just your laptop.

  • Why doesn't time capsule come with AirPlay and an audio out plug? I have to buy an Airport Express station and put it right on top of my time capsule to wire it to my stereo. Doesn't make sense...

My Time Capsule is right by my stereo and would like to stream my itunes there. But it looks like I would have to add an Airport express station right on top of my time capsule to do this. Which doesn't make sense to have 2 wireless routers on top of each other. Is that the only way?

Well you can't do it with a Time Capsule.
You could get an Apple TV instead of an Air Port Express and then you can get video as well..

  • Buy and Airport Express......now my Airport Extreme is useless

Been using an Airport Extreme since October without a hint of trouble. Decided to get an Airport Express to extend my home network and now everything is ruined. I merely plugged in the Express upstairs and went downstairs to configure as per the manual in the Airport Express box. Now? Airport Extreme doesn't get recognized at all in the Airport Utility. The light stays blinking amber. I did hard resets too. Unplugged the Airport Express as well. It's as if my Extreme Base Station has died.
I open Network Preferences and it's not there. Gone. I am ready to flip out I tell you. I'm telling the wife and kids that "now we can listen to iTunes upstairs and have a better wireless connection and....and..."
Now dad looks like a fool thanks to Apple. I have to plug in direct for ethernet and no wifi in our house. You know, I bought into the Apple hype that adding this Express would be so easy and make things better for me.
Now I am reading in the forums that apparently Apple could care less about my woes. They got my $$. I got nothing in return. Instead I have less than I started out with after spending $100.
Does anybody have a clue about this? I desperately would like some help with this. Can I call Apple? Will they listen? I've dropped thousands (make that over ten thousand) of $$ on Apple hardware. This has ticked me off big time today.
Please help..........please? I have had a BAD day and this tops it off.

Oh, I know, I should be less worked up about this but, I merely added the Express and everything went south after that. Makes no sense.
I'm using a MBP along with the AEBS. Have been for months. Trouble free too. I got the AE today and went upstairs and plugged it in. Went back downstairs with the AE manual and started to "add" it but, when opening Airport Utilty, my AEBS was not recognized. I unplugged the AE and went downstairs. I rebooted the MBP. Same thing. I'm sweating now. AEBS just blinks amber. Hard reset done. Nothing.
Here's another thing. I plugged in my ethernet jack to my MBP to post here and, while it showed a ethernet connection in SysPref I could not connect. I pinged Yahoo and got a "70% packet loss" report. Strange. My Weather Dock app connected but, Mail wouldn't connect. No websites either.
Now I am using my Dell with Ubuntu hard wired to the ethernet and things are fine.
I am REALLY baffled at this. Just adding that AE resulted in THIS? Shouldn't be that way. BTW, am using cable modem connection via Time Warner.
Man, I live in a very rural area and NEED to get to work on my MBP. Can I talk to anyone at Apple? I might add that I am no newbie (despite my hysteria
I can usually work things out but, this is bad. Real bad. Oh, I did update to 10.5.2 Leopard last night. FWIW
    Any help appreciated GREATLY!

  • If I buy a Airport Express, will it improve my Internet from far connections?

I have a Netgear N900 router, which is also the WND4500. I just bought the new PlayStation 4. Only that it disconnects every single time because it is far from the router. If I buy the Air Port EXPRESS, will it solve my issue? Am I going to be able to connect my ps4 through the airport? I can configure the airport with my macbook if I decide to get one, only I just want to know if it WILL WORK, and how to set it up if it does work. Please help, THANK YOU.

If I buy the Air Port EXPRESS, will it solve my issue?
    Sorry, but no.
You need to move the Netgear router closer to the PlayStation, or move the PlayStation closer to the Netgear, or move both devices closer to each other, or connect an Ethernet cable from the Netgear to the PlayStation 4.

  • I'm considering buying airport express

    Hi guys/gals,
I'm considering buying an airport express but have a few questions, I'd be grateful if anyone could help!
Current situation is I have one of the new iMacs in my house currently not near a telephone socket at wall (hence my need to go wireless). I also have an iPod Hifi situated elsewhere in the house which I would like to be able to stream music to from my iMac. (The iPod Hifi just happens to be beside a telephone socket at the wall - if this is of any benefit??)
My main concern is - does the airport express need another wireless router to access its signal or can it actually act as a router itself? if so, how do i connect to my internet connection?
Am i correct in thinking I should plug the airport express in beside the hifi so as i can obviously run the audio cable to it and if the airport express does not need another router then I can just connect it to the telephone socket beside the hifi for the internet connection?
I'm sorry if any of this is vague, any help would be appreciated!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Stephen

I am using a Mac Pro with airport extreme card in it (the card was an option)- I suppose iMacs have this card built in as standard. If so go for it. (as to how to install the AE in your case check the manual - it's pretty straight forward)
If you have a good hi-fi system (with a receiver having toslink connection) I strongly suggest you make use of the Airport Express toslink connector (you have to purchase the toslink cable (optical) cca 20 Euro if you do not have one already. The quality is unbelievable (use apple lossless codec for your files).
I do not have a receiver but an external DAC (digital to analogue converter) connected to AE with the toslink cable. The DAC is connected to my hi-fi system by RCA cable.
I just finished transfering my CD collection to an external MyBook 1TB USB 2 HDD (all files in Apple Lossless codec !) and believe me the quality is so good - I will probably never use my Hi-End DENON SACD player again...
