Morning Forum;
if buying a 3G iPad in the states;
a. does it have to be bought with a data plan or can i buy a 3G one with no data plan?
b. If i buy the AT&T version, will it work ok on networks in the UK?

3G iPads bought in the US are not locked to a carrier (though the Verizon iPads are effectively locked as they are CDMA based), so if you buy the AT&T version it's not locked and you don't have to sign up or activate a 3G service with them. I think that their micro-sim is already installed in the iPad when you buy it but you don't have to use it and you can just remove and replace it with a UK micro-sim when you get back - so yes it will work with UK operators when you install your micro-sim and activate it.

US iPads are not locked to a carrier. Don't buy a Verizon or Sprint model, though.

Probably been asked 1M times but I cannot find a clear cut answer: If I buy a bew IPAD2, 64G Wifi+3G AT&T model in US Apple Store will I be able to take it to other countries (EU, Asia or where ever GSM networks exist) get a micro sim and use it with the Ipad? Does it need any cracking to work? When I buy the IPAD in US, do I HAVE TO buy a dataplan with it?

GSM models are sold unlocked. You can use it worldwide. It does not require "cracking". You do not need to buy a data plan at the time of purchase.

Yes, it will work the same. I do not know the p\electrical out size in Canada. So you may need a plug adopter for the wall charger. You will also have to change the some settings to reflect Canada.

iPhones sold at less than full price are locked to a wireless carrier
and in the US you are agreeing to a 2 year contract with that wireless
carrier. Such iPhones will only work with the wireless carrier to which
they are locked, and only that carrier can unlock the iPhone.
Be advised that Apple sells 2 types of iPhones at the same price-
one is contract free meaning the iPhone is locked to a wireless provider
but no 2 year contract is required, and the other is unlocked meaning it
can be used with any wireless provider that uses the same bandwidths
and protocols as the iPhone supports.
If you purchase an iPhone from the US, the warranty will be valid only in
the US. Should a problem arise, you would have to personally bring the
iPhone to Apple in the US or send it to a friend/relative in the US to take in.

Another thing to note is that if your cell plan/carrier supports it (it's free with Verizon Shared plans), you can also use your mobile phone as a mobile hotspot (Personal Hotspot on iOS devices) and use your phone's data to access the internet on the iPad. I purchased an iPad 3 with Verizon 3G/4G cellular built-in but have never activated it. I instead use Personal Hotspot with my Verizon Wireless cellular (phone) plan. If you go this route, you can save money over purchasing a Wi-Fi/Cellular iPad and just choose the Wi-Fi model. But also realize that if you choose to at some point to use the iPad when you're away from Wi-Fi, you won't have the built-in cellular capability that a Wi-Fi/Cellular iPad would have.

Yes you can do it, and if you search, upper right corner this has been discussed recently.
The iPad is compatible in both countries...charger handles 100-240 volts at 50-60 Hertz...just need the proper plug piece or converter. That should be easy enough, the plug piece slides off horizontally and the proper one for the country slides on...same piece for all iDevice chargers.

Well, first you have to come to the US to do that. When you do you will pay US sales tax in the state where you purchase it. Understand that once your return to India your warranty will not likely be honored, so you will have to return it to the US for any warranty repair. If you have it repaired in India by a non-Apple certified shop, then any further warranty will be voided.
Keep that all in mind before doing what you plan to do. You may find it is wiser to purchase it in India from an Apple certified reseller or retailer.

Your problem might be a easy fix.
If the firmware "forgets" what partition it's supposed to boot from, it won't load OS X, so if OS X doesn't load then it can't tell the fans to slow down, the default is "turbo mode".
So all you might have to do is hold the option/alt key down while booting the computer with a charged up battery on power, you will then see a row of icons and you pick OS X to boot from.
Once in you head to System Preferences and set the Startup Disk, that will tell the firmware what to boot from again.
Try it and see if it works.
You can do more if your problem is not fixed.

No. The only way to get an engraved iPad is to order one from Apple (in the store or online). Engraving is not done in the stores.
Something to consider before ordering an engraved iPad. It cannot be returned unless it turns out to be defective. Engraving an iPad yourself (or having it done by someone else) will void the warranty
