Buying an iPhone abroad

I'm from Italy and I would like to buy the new iPhone 4S in the UK, because in Italy it's much more expensive. If I buy this iPhone abroad without a contract, and then I come back to Italy, will I have problems with using it with my operator? And how guarantee works in that case? I'm not interesting in Jailbreaking it.
Thank you very much indeed!
Francesco

Buying iPhone to use it in roaming for that long time is not really a good idea. While it is locked to AT&T only you can`t use local SIM card. Roaming charges are going to be huge.
Also SIM free iPhones are going to be available in Russia in September. Despite the price of 1200-1400 US $ it is still better deal than roaming. Also you can use it back in the States for more reasonable plans.
Best,
Anton

  • If i buy an iPhone 4s in the uk, and send it abroad as a gift, will it still work with any sim card or will it need unlocking?

I basically want to buy an iphone as a gift, but i'm unsure if it will need extra unlocking in another country or will i be able to use it srtaight away if i have a sim card

If you buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple, it will remain unlocked.
Apple is the only source for unlocked phones in the UK.  Be warned, the phones sold at Carphone Warehouse are NOT unlocked. They will ONLY activate with a UK carrier and will lock to the first carrier used.

  • Buying iPhone abroad

I have many questions but I'll start with this one.
Is there a worldwide Apple warranty?,Apple Belgium/Holland told me not but I wanna be sure.
So if I would buy an iPhone in the US and there's something wrong, does my 1 year warranty count in the Apple Store in Amsterdam?
How much taxes do you have to pay for an iPhone 5s for example. They cost 649 but I wanna buy my iPhone 5s in San Francisco,do I have to pay an extra fee in the state of California?
    Thank you!!!

There is no international warranty on the iPhone. The warranty is only good in the country of purchase. The only difference is a purchase made in the EU. That is considered one country.
If you purchase a phone in the US, the warranty is only good in the US. You cannot ship it to the US either, you would have to bring it. Another problem would be that the phone purchased in the US would not support the LTE bands in Europe.
The amount of tax you pay on the device is dependent on the area. Sales tax in the US can be depended on the location, differs from state to state, and can even differ from city to city in the same state.

  • Buying an iPhone before moving abroad?

I will be living in Russia for nine months starting in September, and I am thinking about buying an iPhone in order to have instant access to WiFi while I am over there. However, I have heard and read that rates can be exorbitant, even with AT&T's international data packages. Is it advisable for me to buy an iPhone and purchase an international data package, or should I buy one in Russia (or not at all)? Also, does AT&T offer international calling packages?
I would appreciate any advice. I have never had an iPhone before and am unsure if I would be making a bad decision to take one with me for an extended time overseas.

  • If i buy an iPhone 6 in Turkey can it be fixed/upgraded in The United States?

I am currently living abroad in Istanbul, Turkey, but I am an American citizen. My American iPhone 5 has had hardware issues (I have gone through all of the troubleshooting issues many times with many people and we have all decided it truly is a hardware problem) and I have discovered these issues cannot be resolved at the Apple store in Turkey because of some sort of Legal/government issue.  The camera stopped working, I asked to have it fixed (at the normal cost), and they told me they were sorry but there was nothing they could do.  I have been very disappointed with Apple in Turkey and the fact that there is really no help for me here.  So, now I am very wary of buying an iPhone 6 in this country, in case I move back home.  The question is - if I buy an iPhone 6 in Turkey, move back to the states and have a problem with the phone, will Apple be able to fix or handle any issues I have?
    Thanks,
    Lauren

It is hard to believe that Apple won't fix their product that is faulty.  I would love to have it fixed by a company I trust instead of having to gamble with getting repairs in a foreign country where I don't speak the language.  With most other companies they will honor their product and if there is a problem they can help reach a solution, regardless of where you are.  The phone I currently have is actually a replacement iPhone  from Apple for the exact same issue.  It doesn't leave you feeling satisfied when you buy something, it breaks on its own, you get a replacement, it breaks again on its own, and then company tells you it can't do anything.
I think disappointed is the correct feeling.

  • Option for students to buy an iPhone

What are the options to buy the iPhone 5 for students besides using credit card? The current situation is that iPhone 5 can only be purchased through online reservation, but the credit card limit for students is $500 and Apple doesn't accept PayPal. So, it seems that there is no way that students can make the purchase. And yes, I'm not interested to an iPhone with a contract. Thank you in advance.

Do you think such request can be made to any of the Apple helpers? I'm studying abroad actually, so, besides me, anyone else is also a student. Just wondering.

  • Using iPhones abroad?

I am considering buying an iPhone -- I'm from the US but I live and work abroad (currently in Uruguay). I just have a few questions.
--if I buy an iPhone in the US, is an AT&T contract required, or can I just purchase the iPhone itself without any obligation to AT&T wireless?
--will an iPhone purchased in the US work overseas with the SIM card from an existing wireless plan? Uruguay uses the at 850mhz.
--if the iPhone won't work with an existing wireless plan in a foreign country, will it still work to access the internet in wireless hotspots?

--if I buy an iPhone in the US, is an AT&T contract required, or can I just purchase the iPhone itself without any obligation to AT&T wireless?
Yes. The AT&T contract is required.
--will an iPhone purchased in the US work overseas with the SIM card from an existing wireless plan? Uruguay uses the at 850mhz.
No. iPhone purchaed in the U.S. can only work with SIM card that comes with it.
--if the iPhone won't work with an existing wireless plan in a foreign country, will it still work to access the internet in wireless hotspots?
Well, the iPhone needs to be activated with iTunes b4 you can use the wireless.

  • Is buying an iPhone 3GS worth it in 2012?

I'm looking to buy an iPhone.  I want one unlocked as I often move abroad, but I don't want to pay the price for an iPhone 4 or 4S.  I don't care about the retina display.  I am also prone to dropping my phone and would most likely smash the back of a 4 or 4S within a week.  Should I buy a 3GS?

I'd agree with xtrmecarbon, your best taking all the above into concideration.
But then you've also got to ask yourself, on 02 for example: (Pay As You Go) iPhone 3GS your looking at £319 for the iPhone itself. From here you could go for a "Pay Monthly Sim" with 02.
If you go for a "12 Month SIM" your find your "Pay Monthly Sim" will cost roughly half the price than "Paying Monthly", as your an O2 Customer for an entire year. so for example i was paying £27 a month, i'm now only paying £15 because i'm with O2 for a year. obviously theirs extra charges if you go over your contract usage, same as all phone contracts.
This would cost you in total: £499 (Including iPhone 3GS, Black, 8GB) if you didn't go over your usage for £15 a month for example, now you could properly say for sure the iPhone 3GS will be around for another year at least, obviously were not 100% certain on that.
Question you've got to ask yourself would you rather save an extra £300 roughly, I'd suggest buying the handset on it's own, and doing a sim only deals, will work out cheaper in the long run..
    Hope this advice helps!

  • Is it possible to buy an iphone 6 in the US and to use it in France?

is it possible to buy an iphone 6 in the US and to use it in France?

    Hi, Chris.
I did some research and found that your answers are not completely accurate.
The T-mobile contract-free iPhone is already being sold, but it will take 7-10 business days to ship. And, as confirmed by Apple Specialists and also by people who have already bought it, it is factory unlocked.
Yes, there is a contract free T-Mobile phone, but it is not "the" unlocked phone which Apple will begin to sell usually 2 months or so from the release date. So my answer to that question is accurate. I specifically identified the T-Mobile phone, and a search of the forum would yield some responses identifying its inability to work in some locations. And again, it has to be the T-Mobile phone sold at the Apple store, not T-Mobile.

Regarding French LTE bands, they use 800, 1800 and 2600MHz, all of those supported by the iPhone 6.
While that statement is accurate, see Lawrence's response regarding how it works.

And finally, about the warranty, that is also something that should be checked country by country. Although Apple says its warranty won't cover products purchased abroad, some countries' laws require manufacturers to provided services under warranty to phones no matter where they were purchased. For example, since Apple has a branch in Brazil, justice here has repeatedly ruled in favor of customers  who needed service on iPhones purchased in other countries.
While that may be an example, the overall warranty statement by Apple is that warrant is specific to the country of purchase for the reasons that Lawrence states. Certain devices cannot be found in certain countries. Should I travel to Brazil and have a problem with my phone, they would have a very difficult time replacing a locked AT&T device. They would not have that stock.

  • If I buy a iPhone 5 at the store, will it still be running iOS 6 or 7?

I want to buy the iPhone 5 (not the iPhone 5s or c) because it has iOS 6 on it instead of iOS 7 (which I do not like) and wondering if the people at the store still have the iPhones that run iOS 6 on them. Thanks!

It is unlikely that you will find an iPhone 5 in any store for sale.
The iPhone 5 has not been available for sale since November of 2013 when the 5S and 5C were replaced.
The only way to acquire an iPhone 5 at this point is via the used/refurbished market.  Unless you buy a used iPhone that was never upgraded, you will not find one running iOS6.

  • If i was going to buy an iphone 5s 16gb at an apple retailer should i call in and preorder?

    JUst wondering

Since the 5s has been out for over a year now, its doubtful they would be out of stock of it currently, more so considering people are buying the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in droves, not the 5s.

Hi, i am going to buy and iPhone 5 in france but it says its an unlocked iphone so i guess if i take it to Ecuador (my country) the iPhone is gonna work with a sim card from Ecuador right¿

If the receipt says "unlocked" (and not "SIM free") then it will work anywhere in the world that there is a GSM network. However, if it ever needs repair you will have to take it back to France.

The warranty for the iPhone is not and has never been International.
Warranty and support are ONLY valid in the country of origin.  The only exception is the EU where the entire EU is treated as one country.
If the device will be used in India, buy it in India.
An unlocked iPhone will work on any supported GSM carrier world wide.  The LTE portion of a US purchased, unlocked iPhone is unlikely to work outside North America as it does not support the appropriate bands used in other countries.
