Buying an iphone for use in Sweden

I know that this might not be he right place to ask this question but i couldn´t find a better palce. My question is if  I buy an iPhone 5s "unlocked and contract-free" will it work with my Swedish SIM-card in Sweden?

Where exactly will you be buying this iPhone for use in Sweden?
Also, 'unlocked' and 'contract free' are NOT the same thing.  Contract free normally refers to something like sim-free, which means it will actually lock to the first carrier sim card that you put in the phone.
If you want to use your phone in Sweden, then you need to buy an unlocked phone.
If you want to use your iPhone in Sweden, why not just buy it in Sweden?  You are then covered by EU warranty and you will have no problem.  If you buy elsewhere, your warranty is country specific and you'll have to take it back there if you have problems.
Buy the phone in Sweden if you want to use it in Sweden!!

  • Should I purchase CDMA or GSM iPhone for use in U.S. and Hong Kong/China?

I currently have an unlocked GSM iPhone 4 that I bought in Hong Kong, and have been using it in the US through Straight Talk. I love having the flexibility of an unlocked phone when I travel. Unfortunately, the GSM networks in my area are pretty spotty, and Verizon's CDMA coverage is MUCH better. Not to mention the data speed is really slow.
I'd like to purchase an unlocked iPhone 5s without a contract, and hopefully be able to use it on the CDMA network here in america, while still have GSM available for use when I travel back and forth to Asia.
The pros and cons of GSM vs. CDMA iPhones are still pretty muddy for me, but it sounds like buying a CDMA iphone would be better for my situation because I could utilize both networks when traveling, and yet have the best speed/coverage in my current home in the US.
Straight talk or Page Plus is what I'm looking to for carriers. Verizon's too expensive for me.
    Here are my questions:
    1. Does my choosing CDMA seem to be the best choice? Or are there any cons regarding purchasing CDMA that I've overlooked? I've heard people say there is no such thing as an unlocked CDMA iphone. My biggest concern is that I arrive in Asia and find that some CDMA lock prevents me from using any other carrier--CDMA or GSM. (Both networks are available there, btw.) I need to make sure I can use data and make calls when I'm there.
    2. If a CDMA iphone is the best choice for me, how do I purchase the right one without a contract? Apple store? Verizon? Straight Talk (do they sell CDMA iphones)?Canada? Ebay seems kinda risky to get an iPhone with the specifications I need.
    3. Does a CDMA iphone still have the slot for sim cards? That's how I've always switched carriers when in Asia.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply. I didn't know that StraightTalk disabled their iphone's GSM capabilities. Guess I won't be going there to buy one.
    A few follow-up questions...
So is a SIM slot only used for GSM? This is something I never knew. I assumed for any network (GSM or CDMA) that a new sim card was the way you changed numbers/networks.
I've heard people mentioning that they've been able to buy Verizon iphones and use them on PagePlus, but this information was a year or two old, so perhaps things have changed with the newer models/carrier contracts. Do you know of any people who have had success in using a Verizon iPhone 5s on the PagePlus network?

  • Is it possible to buy an iphone to use in the US and the rest of the world without buying a monthly phone plan?

Is it possible to buy an iphone to use in the US and the rest of the world without buying a monthly plan? I'd like to travel without two camera, two cell phones and use my iphone as a backup camera and phone for texting and short calls during international travel. Can an iphone take sim cards as some smart phones?

If you buy an unlocked phone from Apple you should be able to use it with any carrier. It'll be more expensive but you get the freedom to choose.

  • I would like to buy an iPhone for my friend in Iceland.  Two questions: will the phone work with complete utility in Iceland, and if so, what should I do to confirgure it while in the USA so that it can have full utility in Iceland?

I would like to buy an iPhone for my friend in Iceland.  Two questions: will the phone work with complete utility in Iceland, and if so, what should I do to confirgure it while in the USA so that it can have full utility in Iceland?

Bad idea. There are no supported iPhone carriers in Iceland, thus some features may or may not work. Further, there will be no warranty or support for a US purchased iPhone in Iceland...your friend will be on their own. If you still want to go down this road, make sure you purchase an officially unlocked iPhone(GSM model) directly from Apple.

I want to temporarily unlock my iPhone for use in Spain. How do I find a compatible SIM from supported carrier?

    No such status
AT&T will either unlock your iPhone or not
    there is ......
    A carrier locked iPhone
A non carrier locked iPhone (known as unlocked) ,nothing in between
Until AT&T agree to unlock your iPhone you can ONLY use your existing sim

  • Can i buy an iPhone 5 using verizon but use a tmobile nano sim?

I am going to buy an iphone 5 but i dont know if i can buy it under verizon and use a tmobile sim card? I do NOT have a verizon contract and i will not get one in the future. Will the phone work? Do i have to pay extra to use verizon and will they ask for an account number?

You can not currently purchase a Verizon iPhone 5 withou either already having, or establishing service with Verizon.
The SIM slot in the Verizon iPhone 5 is apparently unlocked as they are legally prevented from locking new devices as a condition of having won an auction for spectrum in the US.
There are known compatibility problems with T-Mobile's US network and iPhones, so even if you do get one, it will be effectively crippled on T-Mobile.

  • Can I buy Pre Plus for use in Austria?

You will need to contact your carrier for any updates to availability.

  • US iPhone for use in UK

I would like to buy an iPhone 6 in the US as it is cheaper than buying one in the UK (I live in the UK).
Would the US iPhone work correctly in the UK on an EE contract?
    I appreciate any help.
Other info: I ill have to wait 1 month to get the phone if i buy in the US

Depending on where and from whom  you purchase it may work on 3G and unlikely on 4G
Apple produce different models in US from those sold in UK and Europe
US prices do not include  sales tax and if you were caught in Customs ,you will be charged VAT + duty and even face confiscation of the iPhone
the value is far greater than your personal allowance from outside the EU
What Brian is also saying is there is NO warranty or post warranty support in UK
    The warranty is NOT international

  • Want to Buy Sprint iPhones for Christmas, ad and add

I want to purchase 2 iphones for Christmas gifts to replace lines on ATT contract ending in December.  Can I purchase the two new phones before Christmas and port the ATT numbers to Sprint on Christmas day?  Also whats the pros and cons of Apple Care vs. black tie protection?

I wouldn't count on it.  I preordered mine on 10 October and still have yet to get a call.  I would tend to lean toward AppleCare but I admit I'm not educated much on the BBY black tie. I've just heard the horror stories.  I DO however recommend getting the BBY extended warranties on any high dollar electronics you may get.  It's saved my two Tivo's and a printer over the years.

  • Hi folks, my mothers 40th next week and im looking to buy an iphone for her now and pay later. I see its available but will i be granted the loan on here ? really need help with this . thanks folks

Hi folks its my mothers 40th next week and im looking to get an iphone4s or 5 from apple and then pay back monthly as in buy now pay later . i do not want contract . Im only 19 and cant afford to buy one right away although i can pay monthly back to apply if i was to get the iphone. Help needed here and thank use

This is Apple's financing program in the US if you want to buy an iPhone without a carrier subsidy:
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/finance/instant_credit_page
Whether you could qualify I can't say. And as Lawrence said, even without a contract the plans from the carriers are expensive, so you will need to consider whether you or your mother can afford the monthly ree.

  • Buying official USA unlocked iPhone for use in the UK

Hey there - about the head over to the USA for a holiday and want to pick up an official Apple unlocked iPhone 4.
The specs say GSM - does this mean it doesn't have 3G at all? Will it work with a UK micro-sim on 3G or just EDGE?
    Cheers!

"3G" is absolutely not standard; in fact, "3G" as a term is essentially meaningless; it's mostly a marketing term and does not convey anything definite in terms of technology. "GSM" is a more informative term, being the connection technology used by many cell carriers, but even there differences can be found. In the US, AT&T and T-Mobile both use GSM but use different frequencies; the US iPhone doesn't support the frequencies T-Mobile uses except for EDGE (an older, slower technology).
Important note: the warranty on the iPhone is not world-wide. So you if you buy a US iPhone and it needs to be serviced, you will probably have to ship it to your US relative to send/take to Apple to get it serviced. Just so you know.
    Regards.
