Buying Aperture 3 after trial

Before you say, I know there are other posts here about this issue, but most of those feature people who had Aperture 1 or 2, but I haven't.  If there are other posts that cover this please link the solution.
I downloaded the 30 day trial but it is now refusing to let me purchase the full version.  I now get the message saying "buy", "authorise" or "quit".
Authorise asks for a serial, but as i don't have a previous version I have no such code.
'Buy' eventually opens the Mac AppStore on the purchase page, but when I click purchase it comes up with the following
- "Aperture is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."
When I go through the Software Update it says nothing needs updating.
Any ideas, that don't involve removing the App and reinstalling as I have procesed works in my Aperture library that I'd like to maintain.

Removing the Trial Version will not harm your Aperture Library. You really only need to remove the Trial Application from the Applications Folder (or rename it) to be able to download the full version from the AppStore - that should fix the complaints. The full version will be able to open and upgrade your current Aperture Library.
Regards
P.S. Is your signature current? Aperture 3.2.2 needs OS 10.6.8 or later.

  • Installing Aperture after trial has expired--effect on project in progress during Aperture trial

My Aperture trial version expired before I finished a photo book. I want to buy the full version now from the App Store.
What do I have to do to make sure my project will still be there where I left off when I get Aperture from the App Store?
Where does my project exist now that my trial has expired? Is it still on my computer and just inaccessible, or is it in the cloud somewhere?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Your projects are part of your Aperture Library (or Aperture Libraries, if you created several); by default the Aperture Library will be stored in the "Pictures" folder in your home folder and called "Aperture Library.aplibrary".
Be sure you have a working backup of this library. It contains all your projects, books, albums,..
To be able to buy Aperture from the App Store you will need to deinstall the Aperture Application from your Applications Folder (move the Aperture.app to the Trash), but keep the Aperture Library. Then you will be able to purchase the Application.

  • Should I buy Aperture in July 2014 even though it's EOLing?

I appreciate this may seem a bit like asking 'should I buy a house when the government has just announced the new freeway is going to run through the back garden', but…..
I'm not a professional, just a hobbyist with a bit iPhoto library and some Photoshop knowledge.  I was planning to buy Aperture when Apple next updated it because I liked the idea of being able to do more sophisticated Photoshop-esque tweaking of levels, curves, filters etc whilst still only having one unified photo library for iPhoto and Aperture.  It's important in my household to have photos accessible in iPhoto too.
But then Apple announces that instead of updating Aperture, it's ceasing development.  So now I'm torn.
So should I buy Aperture now - seems like there will be one more update for Yosemite - because it will still do what I want it to do?  Or should I adopt Lightroom on the grounds that at some point in the future, as with FCP 6, later versions of OS X will stop supporting old apps like Aperture and I'll be forced to switch to Lightroom or find another solution anyway.
Better to do this now than before I learn the new app and have a ton of images with changes that won't cross over.
    Thanks for any advice/insight.
    Andy

Have a look at Capture One Pro as well - IMO it is the most Aperture like tool out there, it doesn't have as big a feature set as Aperture, but what it does have is very good quality some of it better than Aperture. There is a free trial avaialble, and its on for half price right now.
There are a number of comparisons recommending  the quality ofCapture One's raw convertor; I personally like it much better than Aperture's raw convertor (admittedly only checked with my own Panasonic raw files). I also like its gradient brush, the ability to copy masks between edits (and invert them), and the ability to assign multiple edit functions to the same mask. (I miss the ability to control levels, curves, highlight and shadow modification with a brush or mask)
After a week of evaluation I purchased a copy - I'm tired of waiting for feature upgrades, and don't like using a market trailing raw convertor on every image. I have a choice (not made yet) of doing some of my work, mostly organization and sorting, in Aperture, and RAW conversion in Capture One, or of making a clean break and doing everything from here on in Capture One.
But one thing is clear - I'll have to wait an uncertainly long time (but at least 6 months) before I get new or improved editing features or an improved RAW convertor for Aperture replacement (and then I'll be faced with an undefined cost to transition my images from Aperture to Photos), whereas companies like Capture One, DxO and Adobe can provide those improvements today, and are continuously providing more improvements to customers.
IMOthose other companies will see their revenues and R&D budget pickup as they acquire new users from the Aperture diaspora.

Cannot open aperture v3 after upgrading to  OS 10.6.8.  Bought the upgrade online so cannot reload the software.  Can you help?

How did you buy it online? Did you buy a registration number from the Apple Store?
Then you can download the Trial version from this link:
        Aperture 3.1 Trial
and run Software Update immediately after installing.
Go to the Applications folder and delete Aperture.
    Download the Aperture 3.1 Trial.
Open the Aperture Trial disc image.
    Double-click the "Aperture Trial.mpkg" file.
Follow the onscreen instructions to install Aperture.
After the installation completes, choose Software Update from the Apple () menu.
Cannot open aperture v3 after upgrading to  OS 10.6.8.
But what exactly is the error you get, when you try to launch Aperture? Maybe you need to do more than updating.

  • What are some things i need to know before buying Aperture 3? because i know a little about digital photography

    Help please

Your Mac seems to be compatible with Aperture (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1657), but is your camera? Here is a list of cameras, that are supported by Aperture, see: Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
If your camera is not on the list, you can work in Aperture with jpegs, tiffs, psd images, but not with raw images.
because i know a little about digital photography
That is a bit ambigious - do you want to say that you have some experience with digital photography, or nearly none at all?  Have you tried iPhoto and do you like it? iPhoto comes on every newer mac included for free, so you could give it a try. Aperture and iPhoto are related, they are both supporting a lossless workflow - you can always undo all edits and your original images are preserved, and both are compatible. Each application can open the photl library of the other app.
Only Aperture has advanced editing tools and more possibilites to organize and search your images.
To elaborate on Kirby's question: To help you decide, it would help to know, if you have used any software for organizing a photo library previously, and and what you are looking for. If not, give iPhoto a trial run - it should be on your Mac. If you see, that you need more advanced features than the basic set in iPhoto, check, if Aperture will give you those and then buy Aperture. You can continue right where you left off in iPhoto.

  • How to buy aperture when having a test version installed

i´d like to buy aperture in the appstore but after pressing the "buy" button there´s a message telling me that aperture is already installed and i should try to search for updates via the built in software update feature in mac os. Yes, i´ve got the test-version installed, but how do i go on now? Thanks...

Delete the Aperture app from the Applications folder. Then you'll be able to buy it from the App store.
Any libraries you have will work (after upgrading them) with the paid app.

  • Is it passible to buy Aperture 3 from Russia?

Is it passible to buy Aperture Trial - Upgrade Activation Key via e-mail from Russian Federation?

I found a document on Apple's website which indicated that there were a few applications which could be delivered via electronic download and for which you could download the "trial" version, then "purchase" in a way that just provides the product key via email (upgrading the "trial" version into a production version.) It claimed Aperture is one of the programs that can be purchased this way.
I could not actually find a way to do this (other than reading an Apple document that told me it was an option), so I called a support phone number for Apple's web store to ask for help. They explained that this isn't actually possible (perhaps it was possible in some past version, but not anymore) and that the only way to get a product key for Aperture is to order the box and wait for delivery via traditional mail -- no electronic delivery.

If you are purchasing from the Mac App store, then you would drag the trial version to the trash first and empty trash (since the trial version has expired).
Launch the Mac App store > sign in with your Apple ID > purchase Aperture (this is cheaper than the previous retail version many of us purchased anyway).
Note - you can rename your Aperture Trial library as needed if you want to work with that one once the full version is installed.

  • Can't buy aperture

I had  trial version of Aperture.  It expired.  Now I am trying to buy, but I am caught in endless loop:
fromApp store, buy:  "Aperture is already installed on this computer, Choose Software Update..."
    Software update: no updates

Move your trial version of Aperture from the Applications Folder to the Trash, but keep your Aperture Library in the Pictures folder. Then you should be able to buy Aperture by signing into the App Store.

This maybe a dumb question but...If I buy Aperture are the updates already installed into the purchased version or do I need to update them after the prograam is installed?

Should come updated from the Mac App Store. Obviously, it's tough to keep things up to date when they are sitting in a box on a store shelf.

  • I have aperture 3.4.4, which does not work with Yosemite. Is there a way to upgrade my Aperture version, or do I have to buy Aperture again?

I have aperture 3.4.4, which does not work with Yosemite. Is there a way to upgrade my Aperture version, or do I have to buy Aperture again?

If you own any version of Aperture 3, you are entitled to a free update. Only it can be tricky, if your version is not associated with your AppleID, because you bought it with a serial number.
Have you checked, if you can see an update at the App Store Updates page? Or an "Accept" button on the Purchases tab of the app Store?
Contact the AppStore Support and request a redeem code, to be able to buy the update for free. You will need to provide a proof op purchase of Aperture.
    Use this link: http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact/
Apple sent redeem codes for Aperture 3.6 to several users who had bought the version on disks, if they could provide a serial number.  See for example this discussion: (The post marked as the solution)
Re: Aperture update not possible after update to Yosemite
It is really unfortunate you missed the window of opportunity with Mavericks MacOS X 10.9.5, when the update was easy.

  • Installing Adobe 11 after trial period.

Do I have to delete Adobe 10 in order to buy Adobe 11 after the trial period?

No.  If the program needs to be replaced by the new one then it would do that during installation.  You do not have to prepare for installing the new version.

  • Where do I find my photos after trial has expired

where do I find my photos after trial has expired

where do I find my photos after trial has expired
Just one little addition to add to Kirby's spot-on answer: Are you worried, if you will still have access to your photos after the trial licence expired? Without a valid Aperture licence you will still be able to access the original master image files, but not to the edited versions. From what Kirby Krieger told you, it is clear that you will have access to referenced master image files, located outside the library. If your library is managed you can access the master files inside the Aperture Library Package by ctrl-clicking the Aperture Library and selecting: "Show Package contents". The original master image files are located inside the folder "Masters". Here is what my Aperture Library Package looks like:

  • Lost aperture library after lion upgrade

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to Lion after re-installing my operating system. I then went to put Aperture (v3.2.4) back on my mac from my time machine and it says:
I really only need a book I've created previously to be made available. Can anyone help please?
    Conor

Did you buy Aperture from the Mac App Store? If so, I'd take the version you got from Time Machine and take it off your system, then redownload from the MAS.
If you have the discs, just re-install from them.

  • IPhoto Keywords in Aperture 2 after importing selected photos

The keywords I set up in iPhoto are not copied over to Aperture 2 after I imported several photos using the iPhoto Browser.
We're being told that there is integration between the iLife apps and Aperture - I don't see it.

Yeah, I was really surprised by this when I saw it. Strangely, when you bring photos from Aperture to iPhoto, it brings the tag. This means everything is fine for me because I'm going to import new projects from my camera to Aperture, do my edits, then use iPhoto as my main storage and organization. Still, it's surprising that they didn't enable Aperture to read iPhoto tags.
