Buying computer for Solaris 8 - any advice?

I am buying computer for Solaris 8.0 and would appreciate comments/experiences from ppl who have installed Solaris on Intel platform.
What to buy and what NOT to buy for smooth installation (if that can be done) ... :)
<br>
Anyone managed to install it on AMD systems? Duron? And what to look for there?
Thank You Very Much!

If you like building your systems from generic parts, I have had very good luck with ASUS P5-A and P5A-B Motherboards with AMD Processors (Socket 7).
I can't comment on SCSI - but IDE works ok if you are looking at cheap space and not performance.
The NIC and Video cards are trickier though. You might want to warn the vendor that you may be returning it, as the revision of a supported model will sometimes make a difference.

I have an older 8GB black iPod Touch (no bluetooth) no longer supported by tech. It is "locked" in restore mode. When I do a 2 button reset I can get the Apple logo but then it pops back to the synch cord-and-music disc icon indicative of restore. Any advice?

    Hello honeycrisp70,
For that error, check out the article below for additional troubleshooting to get it sorted out. If it continues then you may need to contact Apple support.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS3694
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • Calendar malfunction - calendar keeps freezing and displaying text I copied for another purpose - any advice?

My 6-month old macbook air's calendar keeps freezing up.  when I open calendar, it displays across the top of the calendar some text I copied for another purpose and which I pasted into a word document yesterday.  When this happens there's nothing I can do to escape it -- all commands result in the "thud" tone.  So I keep having to force quit calendar.
    Any advice?

    Hi Dylan2412,
According to your description, you'd like to pass the ComboBox.Text to the second form's TextBox.
    In Form1:
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
    Form2 f2 = new Form2(this.comboBox1.Text); //pass the comboBox1.Text
    f2.Show();
    In Form2:
    public Form2(string s) //get the string;
    InitializeComponent();
    this.textBox1.Text = s;
You could get the comBoBox refer to this sample above.
If you have any other concern regarding this issue, please feel free to let me know.
    Best regards,
    Youjun Tang

just a question, my update reads: "MBP51.0074.B01"
but according to KB article HT3260 it is supposed to be:
    "MBP51.0074.01B"
    did i mess up?
What you have read has been written incorrectly by Apple. You have installed the updates successfully. My MacBook Pro reads the same as yours, MBP51.0074.B01.
    Congratulations!

  • Sending MacBoom Pro for Servicing.. any advice on back up?

    hi all,
i'm about to send my machine in for servicing due to water damage. what is the best way for me to back up my system so i don't lose all my emails, appz and stuff?
i've already backed up my docs and movies but what i really want is for my machine to be exactly as it is when i get it back should they decide to replace it under insurance. any suggestions? i've only got 40gb left of my external HDD. i have an ipod so i've backed up my music there. please help!

Your owner's manual will have instructions for removing the hard drive if you have the MBP with the user replaceable hard drive.
Here's something to consider. Do you have another Mac available to use? If so, consider doing this.
Remove the hard drive from your MBP and place it in a firewire enclosure. Also purchase a new firewire backup hard drive, since it sounds like you need a new and bigger one anyway. (Firewire because it's a lot faster than USB.)
Partition and format your new external drive, with one partition equal in size to your MBP's internal drive and any others that you may want. Then download Super Duper onto the other Mac:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
You will now have your MBP drive in an enclosure, a new external drive, and another Mac with Super Duper on it.
Mount both your MBP drive and the new external drive on the other Mac. Then you can use Super Duper to make an exact clone of your MBP's drive on the partition that is the same size as the MBP's drive on the external drive..
Once you have your bootable clone, you can reinstall the hard drive back into your MBP and send it off. You will have an exact copy of your MBP's drive on your new external. When you get the MBP back, you can clone from the external back onto the MBP. Everything will be exactly as you left it. Even if your original drive is erased or replaced, all your stuff will be saved on the new external drive. just as it was.
I know this sounds pretty involved, but I think it would be worth considering. A bootable clone is a really useful backup tool, and can be used in conjunction with other backup strategies.
    Good luck!

  • HT204023 I am using an iphone 4 with iOS 5.1.1 and i do not have an option only for hotspot , here in india we do not need any permissions from carriers for hotspot . Any advice ?

There is no option for personal hotspot on my phone .

Idea is not an officially authorized and supported iPhone carrier - the only supported carriers are Aircel and airtel - so you'll have to try and work this problem out with Idea. Often when using unsupported carriers not all features of the iPhone are usable, and that may well be the issue here.
    Regards.

  • Any document explaining Risks involved in assigning "Delegation Permission" to a computer for Kerberos Authentication

Need SSO on CRM 2013. As per documents assigning Delegation Permission in Kerberos Authentication is mandatory to achieve SSO in CRM 2013.
Before doing that need to evaluate risks in doing so. Any help or document for the same is helpful.
    Devesh

    Hi Devesh,
“The idea of delegation in Kerberos is that if a user makes a request to a final resource, and some
intermediary accounts must process the request, then those intermediary accounts can be trusted to delegate on the user’s behalf. You can configure an account for delegation by using Active Directory Users and Computers as a domain administrator.
Select Trust this user/computer for delegation to any service (Kerberos) under the Delegation tab of the user or computer account.”
    Quoted from this article below:
    Using Kerberos for SharePoint Authentication
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ee914605.aspx
From my point of view, as long as the intermediary account can be trusted, then it is safe.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • Flash player for Solaris?

The Flash player version is quite old. Are there any plans to fix a new version for Solaris? Any tries in that direction?
Right now I am running Windows in VirtualBox to get Flashplayer, but that is inconvenient. I would like to get Flash native for Solaris.

Adobe is no longer developing Flashplayer for Solaris. The final version Flash Player 11.2.202.223 is available from the Adobe site:

  • Hi all. I have upgraded to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro but still cannot connect to App store  to upgrade to Mountain Lion. Any advice?

Hi all, I have upgraded to 10.6.8 Snow leopard on my Mac Pro but still cannot connect to App store.  I want to connect to upgrade to Mountain Lion but ony get the message "you are not connected to App store"  or "Check your internet connections, error -52". My internet is working OK for everything else.Any advice?

Then I will have to assume a faulty installation.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Buying a new computer with Snow Leopard    Thoughts/Advice/ Recommendations

Hey all, right now I'm on my old 2003 G4 1.07GHz white 12" iBook, 256 MB, using Safari 3.0.4
I am SERIOUSLY thinking about purchasing a new computer, and am thinking a brand new white Mac 13" I Book with:
    2.13GHz / 250GB Serial ATA HardDrive
    4GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB
I have not EVER used Leopard, or Snow Leopard.I use my computer for a very wide variety of uses.Lots and lots of things.
Here are my questions that I prefer to be answered please by MAC people who seriously consider themselves knowledgeable experts.
    1. Do you think I'm buying too much memory or "too much" hard drive ? Or not enough ? What do you think of the configuration ?
    2. Would you tell me to wait until next year and see what Apple comes up with ? I hear talk of flash drives and other things. My current computer runs fine and is great, just seems a bit out of date nowadays and getting seriously older.I could wait if I thought the wait was worth it.I mean, we're nearing 2010.
    3. Any advice and recommendations about Snow Leopard for me ? I do NOT wanna screw up a brand new computer within the first week or two.
Thanks in advance to all who answer.

No iBook is 2.13 Ghz, nor are any 13". Apple replaced the iBook line with the MacBook and MacBook Pro lineup. The 13" white MacBook and the 13" Aluminum MacBook Pro are the current new models.
    1. Do you think I'm buying too much memory or "too much" hard drive ? Or not enough ? What do you think of the configuration ?
You can never have too much memory, albeit after awhile some machines can only address so much.

Flash drives are already optional in MacBooks and MacBook Pros.
Talk of other things, you should read this tip:

    Migrating user data, be careful:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=0
    Intel Macs have no Classic.
Snow Leopard may have difficulty with old Carbon applications, though works fine with Appleworks. Read these links to make sure you are able to migrate to Snow Leopard:
    http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
    http://www.macintouch.com/specialreports/snowleopard/slcompat.html
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
If you aren't, a used or refurbished Mac* might be best, or upgrading your existing iBook to 640MB of RAM, if nothing but slowness is plaguing it:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
Getting a larger capacity parallel ATA 2.5" 9.5mm hard drive may help too.

  • Buying a new computer for Master Suite?

What is the world running Master Suite on?
I currently have a P4, Pinnacle/Avid Studio, and leftover websites written in Frontpage.  I use MS Office for customers to order goods and services.  I want to adopt the Adobe standard to improve search engine ranking, update my web look and develop a web application to replace my current MS Office system.
I am debating just buying an i7 computer and "hitting the books" to learn Master Suite, or should I make the plunge and purchase a professional workstation (dual Xeon).
Video processing will be 15% of my work.  How fast of dual processors do I really need to run Premiere.
Any advice?  If I only had more money, and a brain, I wouldn't bother you.  Thanks in advance.
    JM

    fwiw,,,
I bought a Dell Studio XPS Win7 Ultimate.  nVidia GeForce GTX 260, 12gb 1066mhz memory, Intel Core i7-920 2.66 GHz, Dual Samsung SyncMasters 2343 (2048x1152), 1TB boot drive, 2x1.5TB data drives.
I bought the PC from the Dell Outlet, a "previously ordered" unit, monitors and extra harddrives from Microcenter.  After the OS upgrade and additional memory, it was about $2,000.
I haven't bought the Master Suite yet.  Acrobat is a no brainer, but unsure if I wanna lock myself into Adobe.  Avid's Media composer is the standard for video editing, and I know all my keyboard short cuts to my current photo editior.  Plus I don't have any upgrade path to the Master Suite from Dreamweaver, so I'll just end up with 2 Dw licenses.
