Buying from Amazon

I'm thinking of purchasing a new Macbook from Amazon. But I'm worried that their current stock predates any recent logic board upgrades and I'd be at a higher risk of RSD. Anybody have any idea of their turnover?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I purchased a week 21 MacBook from Amazon on June 9th and I also upgraded to 2gb ram from Newegg. My MacBook has been working fine ever since. It was a good deal from Amazon with a $100 rebate, no tax and free shipping. It worked out better than my company discount.

  • Terrible customer experience, this is why people buy from Amazon

    Hi,
I use to love bestbuy and decide to give bestbuy a chance to win me back after years of buying from amazon. This was probably the worst mistake ever as buying experience was horrible.
First, the biggest reason why I decide to purchase from bestbuy was due to the haul away. I calledl customer service and the person told me it wouldn't be a problem with haul away because my dad is about 70 years old and he wouldn't be able to throw away the old LCD tv he had. After the phone call was over, I got an email telling me the order staus and the shipping address was wrong. I had to called back (wasting time here) to change the address and was hung up on during transfer which then I had to be put on hold again for another 10 mins and was told the shipping was updated. Good, I thought that was all settled until I found out today that the item was being ship via UPS. I'm pretty sure UPS doesn't do haul away and I called bestbuy to confirm what is the deal with the haul away. They told me the haul away is for 50 inch and over and they can't do anything about it unless I pay 69.99 to haul it away. This is unbelivable and I'm done buying from bestbuy. You just lost the customer forever..
3 phones just to get one tv and bestbuy still can't get it right. If I wanted to do this way, I would have done this in amazon and 5 mins i would have been done. Thanks for making buying a tv the worst experience in my life and i brought plenty of LCD tv in the past.

    Hello hyenug,
It was very nice of you to purchase a TV for your father. I’m sure he was ecstatic to know it was on its way to his house, only to be disappointed that there wasn’t a free haul-away service attached to his order. It sounds like you may have been led to believe this was the case, and it’s regrettable to hear we may have incorrectly set this expectation when helping you purchase the item over the phone yesterday afternoon.
When purchasing a 51’ TV or larger, we tend to have a delivery option available to those who would rather have the convenience of us hand delivering the item to the address of their choice. If delivery is purchased (or provided free with certain TV purchases), there should be a complimentary haul-away service that may be added to the service order so we may properly dispose of your old item in an environmentally friendly way.
As your television is a 48” model, delivery is not an option for your purchase. This means any haul-away service would be at cost to you should you wish us to remove your current TV from your father’s home, and this could explain why we couldn’t honor your request for a free haul-away service when you called us earlier this morning to attempt to modify your online order.
Please know I greatly appreciate the feedback you’ve provided us, and I’ll be sure to document your concerns so the appropriate internal corporate teams may review them for potential coaching opportunities. I’m truly sorry for any frustration or inconvenience this experience may have caused, while it sounds like this misinformation and experience has tarnished your opinion of us, I truly hope you will provide us another chance to win you over in near future.
    Respectfully,

  • Return to Apple if you buy from Amazon?

If you buy a MacBook Pro on Amazon, will Apple allow you to return it to them, or do you have to return it to Amazon? Because it would be great to take advantage of the rebate!
    Thanks!

I would never buy from Apple. They have restocking fees, charge tax and don't have any special deals on new items. Always go with amazon - they have great return policies, extremely fast and inexpensive shipping, great prices and don't charge sales tax. You can't beat that.
If you have a problem with your new 'book, and I hope you won't, you just return it to amazon and they'll send you another one as soon you email them the tracking number of your return. They'll pay for return shipping too. If you sign up for a free three month trial of their premier service, you'll pay 3.95 for next day shipping or free second day shipping. If they need to send you a replacement, they'll use the same shipping method you chose.
I love amazon and buy all my expensive technology from them. I've never been disappointed and always feel confident when I make a purchase from them.
    Good luck!

  • Buying from Amazon vs Adobe store

Lets set aside for now the discrepancy between US and UK
    pricing - I see
that the CS3 Web Premium is for sale at amazon.co.uk for
    £513.99 whereas
    Adobe store are charging £534.62
How can that be? How come a retailer can charge less than the
    actual source?
What other UK prices have been spotted? I guess that if I
    ordered from Adobe
    direct it may arrive sooner.
    Maybe.

  • Warranty in Denmark when buying from amazon.de

If I buy the Lumia 1520 on amazon.de, is the warranty global and covers Denmark too?
Another question. If I'm travelling and the phone suddenly breaksdown near a Nokia service center, can I then take it in regardless of where I bought it?

If the seller was not Amazon but a reseller using the Amazon Marketplace then it would normally remain the responsibility of that seller, not Amazon. Hopefully product arrived with some form of paperwork with their contact details; you would have to hope that they would treat their customers in an honourablle mannerin such circumstances.

Thanks for your answer. It seems to be an Asian model.
If the retailer I bought it from leaves amazon, am I then left without warranty? (Given the 20% discount, it wouldn't be too unfair, however I'm curious about my options, just in case.)

  • I just ordered an iPad 4 32gb from Amazon but sold by a store called iPadShop.  In the customer reviews there were several reports of this store selling used and refurbished iPads as new.  How can i verify mine is new and not used when it arrives.?

Ok, first time here, so forgive me if Im repeating the question.  I just ordered a NEW iPad 4 32gb from Amazon, but is actually being sold by a seller called "iPadShop". Although this seller got a high approval rating of 4.9 there were several reports of customers receiving used and refurbished iPads but sold as new.  Once I receive mine how can I verify it is new.  Also, even the ones that were new were purchased by this seller and then resold, which shortened the life of the 1 year warranty offered by Apple..?

If you just ordered it, I suggest you cancel your order as soon as possible. If you can't contact Amazon, call your credit card company and cancel payment on that. Why go through worrying about the ipad you are paying for as new? If it's to save money, then that can be defeated if you get a used or refurbished ipad with a less than full one year warranty. You'll be dealing with the ipad shop's return policy which could mean that once you open it, it's yours, unlike when you buy from Apple you have a full 14 days to return it even if you've opened it.
I looked at Amazon and did not see a price difference. If cost led you to buy from Amazon, what are you saving?
I suggest you buy it directly from Apple. If cost is an issue, consider buying a refurbished ipad from the Apple online Refurbished store. I would not buy a refurbished anything from anywhere but the Apple online refurb store.
The ipad 4 32 gb is $499.00 refurbished - a savings of $100.00 vs. a new one. We bought two ipads last year and one as a gift this year and they have been great!
All ipads sold in the Apple refurb store come with new front and back covers, a brand new battery, a full one year warranty, and in case it matters, come in a new white Apple box like all ipads do. Earphones and charger are also included. You can also get the new Apple Care +, which insures up to three breakages (damaged glass, water damage, etc.) in two years.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lightroom 5 from Amazon: Box says "Only for distribution in North America"

I bought Lightroom 5 through Amazon: Box says "Only for distribution in North America. Not for distribution anywhere else, including ... Africa..." I live in South Africa. Please explain. Can I use this product?

It's the first thing that Adobe says when I go to the website they say on the package: www.adobe.com/go/elegibility.
    I copy:  http://www.adobe.com/education/students/student-eligibility-guide.edu.html?
"Adobe software is available at an education  discount for students, teachers, staff, and institutions. You can  purchase software for your personally owned computer or those owned by  your school. These requirements apply in the United States and Canada."
They should have posted that on AMAZON UK so that students who buy from Amazon UK will not buy it.

  • Thinking of buying from eBay?

    Edited October 23, 2008
The original article that this post referred to has expired but there's still quite a bit of good information in this thread.
The point is that eBay software is a risky purchase with much of it illegally pirated.

    > Now wait just one minute here.
    ok.
    > Do NOT put words in my mouth.
I was putting forth a scenario as an EXAMPLE. i never put words in your mouth. you asked a question, i answered and now you want to get all huffy with me?
    > Now that I know, I will never buy from Amazon again, and I have bought a lot.
I was trying avoid that impression. i buy tons from there. the point i was trying to make is just be careful. same as you would anywhere else! would you consider buying the stereo from a guy out of the trunk of his car when it's parked in front of circuit city or best buy? if so, then you take your chances. why would ANYone consider it? well to save a buck of course. so just because i picked $100 out of the air as an example when maybe it was $50 or $25 doesn't invalidate my example. if she WASN'T trying to get over, she would've bought directly from amazon instead of a 3rd party. the same reason anyone might buy from the guy with the stereos in the trunk instead of walking in the store.
for the record, I believe she has a BIG beef with amazon, especially if she does a lot of business there. I'd talk to them and then escalate to a manager. I BET you they'd give her her money back if she pushes hard enough. repeat... the front line drones won't be able to help her, but a customer service manager might.
    >All of your barbs are failing to address the issue.
I flung no barbs. sorry if you got that impression. YOU specifically asked ME for my opinion, and i gave it.
    >Adobe accepted the serial number when she registered it. 9 months later, when she wanted to sell the program, Adobe told her it was a pirate copy.
THAT'S a problem. did you mention that before? if so i missed it. (reading back i see you did say: "she installed and registered it".) I believe adobe should bear some responsibility there if they indeed accepted it as a valid # at one point. if they registered it at first they should probably stick by that. i'd escalate with adobe in that case.
    >"Sometimes you just get screwed." THAT is your solution to this mess?
no, that's my answer to your question. is it wrong? if you think it is, i'd like to live in the world where you're living. someitmes you DO get screwed, everyone does.
like john said, i don't work for adobe and no one else here does either. this is a user to user forum.
    >and was not expecting the members here to be rude.
was i rude? please go back and read my post. i went out of my way NOT to be rude about a sensitive situation and in fact apologized ahead of time when i felt i had to state something bluntly to get the point i was making across clearly. WHO'S being rude here?
    >However - this program sailed through the registration process without a hitch. It was only 9 months later that Adobe decided this copy was pirated.
again, that's a problem to take up with adobe, and maybe a lawyer if she's so inclined.
so sorry if i appeared rude. you seemed to me to be an adult so i tried to respond in an adult manner, in an adult matter. if i knew you were going to react so childishly, i would've not bothered to respond at all.

As I said you need to:
You need to wipe the hard disk and reinstall the OS by booting into the recovery partition and reinstall the original OS via the internet. It will ask you to enter your ID

  • Living in Spain but buying Blackberry from Amazon UK

I live permanently in Spain but am considering buying a 8520 from Amazon in the UK because the prices are almost 50 percent less than they are here in Spain. If I put in my local Pay As You Go SIM card into my new Blackberry will everything function correctly. Sorry if this is a dumb question but what I know about mobiles can be written on a pin head.

To make purchases from any Apple online stores you must use the store for the country in which you reside, if paying with a bank card it must be a verifiable card from a bank in the country where you live with a verifiable billing address in the country where you live.

In order to run Windows Applications, you must own the applications and, since they require Windows, you must own Windows. There are technologies like wine that will allow Windows applications to run without Windows, but they tend to be flakey at best.

how can i buy a song from amazon UK?

    You cannot.
You can ONLY use the itunes store of your country of residence AND ONLY while physically located inside the borders of that country.
In order to buy from the U.K.,  you would have to have a British credit card, billed to a British address AND you would have to physically be located inside the U.K.

  • Buying adobe products from amazon (ix)

I'm in the market for Adobe Creative Suite design standard cs5.5 and having been doing some research on where to buy and the best price for a legitimate copy of the software. I looked on the list of authorised sellers on the Adobe website and noticed that Amazon was among them. When I went on to Amazon to look at their selection of software I noticed that creative suite standard is selling for £989.99, but on further research found that this is via a different seller registered with Amazon called Ix.
    See:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004V9207M/ref=s9_simh_gw_p65_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1 OLE&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=0GPDP6Z4J2FWBGRF505W&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467128533&pf_rd_i=46 8294
I thought the price was very reasonable but have heard so much about pirate software in the industry that I'm concerned the seller is not trading legitimate software as the price is a lot lower than I'm used to seeing. Would Amazon allow a seller to trade software that is pirated? or is this just a very good price for what I'm looking for?

At that price (£200 below the RRP) it could be that the software is a US import. I can’t see how else they could get that low price.  This may not be a problem with regards to registering and activating, but be aware that if it is a US license any future upgrades will also need to be a US version; I don’t think you can use a UK upgrade on a US license.
I remember looking into this when I was buying CS4 a year ago. The use of  a US license in the UK seemed to be a grey area. There were many accounts of people who bought US licenses (either directly or indirectly through a reseller), got a good deal and had no problems. Because I was buying CS4 at a time when I could get a free upgrade to CS5 I wanted to do everything by the book and ended up buying from a reseller on Adobe’s reseller list, but the price wasn’t that great compared to some of the deals available.
At the time there were some good deals available from the amazon.co.uk Marketplace sellers, but, like now, the number of feedback comments was never higher than the low hundreds, suggesting the seller (under that name at least) hadn’t been around for very long. It was also hard to find out basic information about the seller, such as an address or contact details, which rang alarm bells. It’s maybe worth sending an email to the seller to test the waters.
Also be aware that whilst amazon.co.uk may be on the Adobe reseller list it doesn’t necessary follow that the Marketplace sellers also fall under that umbrella (from Adobe’s point of view).
I’m not an authority on any of this, and may be overly paranoid. Perhaps someone with more concrete knowledge about licensing and imports can give better advice.

If i buy an iPad from Amazon can I still purchase apple care?

    How to get AppleCare+
Purchase AppleCare+ together with your new iPad, and you'll be automatically registered in the plan. Add it to your shopping cart during the checkout process when you purchase your new iPad.
Or buy it within 30 days of your iPad purchase:
At an Apple Retail Store (if AppleCare+ is purchased separately from iPad, inspection of iPad and proof of purchase are required.)
Or call (800) 275-2273 (requires you to run a remote diagnostic and provide proof of purchase)

  • Bought from Amazon, Phone Broke, now Blackberry Site says I did not buy it from Amazon

I bought a Blackberry Classic from Amazon new in December. Sadly, it broke. When I go to Blackberry site to register for warranty repair, the site tells me that, based on the PIN, I did not buy the phone from Amazon. I have proof that I did with the dated order number.
    How can I contact Blackberry???

I suggest you go back to Amazon and register with them for a Warranty Repair. If they will not repair it and instead direct you to BlackBerry, get Amazon to give you the BlackBerry contact details. Good luck!
