Buying music on Napster and other stores.

I'm considering purchasing an alternative MP3 player instead upgrading to a fifth generation iPod.
This is because Apple refuses to allow music purchased from other music stores to play on iPods, so I am forced to use iTunes and iTunes support regardless of how bad it gets. It is extremely bad business practice and unfair on both consumers and rival music shops.
Can anyone help as I would like to pay for a second time the music I lost - music that Apple will not let me redownload - from another music store and play them on my iPod. As far as I know the only solution is to burn to CD and then rip the CD.
I'm hardly going to buy a Mac, which I'm considering, if this is how customers are systematically treated.

I can see why you are interested in Macs. I personally find that it is not hard to find software for OS X. There is actually a lot more than I thought when I first got my computer.
Windows versions of software will not run in OS X. (Example- If you have Office for Windows, you can't just put your cd in your mac and expect it to run, You will have to buy Office for Mac). Unfortuately. But:
You can buy windows emulators such as- (Basically win will show up as window on top of Mac)
Microsoft VirtualPC (which they have discontinued)
Parrallels Desktop for Mac

I don't use an emulator but Parallels is supposed to be the best (It uses virtualization, not emulation, which is not compatible with older mac such as G3s and maybe G4s), and its $79, of course you have to have a win install cd.
Then there is boot camp (which I use). It is a free apple program that partitions your hard drive and installs win from your cd. When you boot win just hold the option key at startup to choose os.
It is completely native so there is no OS X in the background when you boot win. It is just on its own. It requires a reboot to switch os.
It depends on what you are doing. I only use win for gaming (not many OS X games but there are some). I use boot camp because it is natively booting win. Games probably won't run in an emulator.
If you are using win programs though it is better to have an emulator as you can quickly open win in a window.
I would definetely recommend mac to you as it is nicer. As a website designer you can get Macromedia (owned by adobe) Dreamweaver for mac. Or even use iWeb apple's easy way to create a site.

No, the iTunes card is only valid in the country where it is sold...and you must be physically in that country to use it.

I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
      tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
      "done", in the upper right corner
c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
      Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
      should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
      security questions.
d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
      selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
      should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
      questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.

I don't think you understood what I wrote. You don't HAVE to pay for everything if you are happy with using the other account for updates, etc. But if you don't want to do that then you will have to buy new copies of everything for the new account. There's only one purchase item per account, but you can redownload an item in the account many times.
The idea is this:
One computer, multiple devices, one Apple ID.
One user, multiple devices, one Apple ID.
The basic idea is that each user has an Apple ID under which he/she can manage multiple devices on a single computer.
Once you step outside of that model you create such problems as not being able to use or update apps purchase under one Apple ID when using a different Apple ID. Or not being able to easily sync one device on more than one computer.

i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

How do I buy music not carried by iTunes Store (for my iPhone)

There are songs or albums I may want to buy that are not carried by the iTunes store.
Is there an easy way I can use my iPhone to buy a song that is not in the iTunes Store and add it to the Music library on the iPhone and later sync to iTunes on the iMac? I'm not that techie, but I would imagine there are easier ways to get non-iTunes songs to the iPhone.
The only way I know how to do it currently is buy a CD and copy the CD to iTunes or buy an audio file using the iMac then import it to iTunes, then sync to the iPhone.
In otherwords,
Vendor -> iPhone/Music -> Sync to iMac/iTunes
instead of
Vendor -> Download to iMac and Import to iTunes -> Sync to iPhone/Music

You must buy it on your computer, then import it into iTunes, then sync it to the iPhone. To import into iTunes you can just drag and drop it onto the iTunes app.

If you have moved to the US, you need to be changing the country associated with your Apple ID to the US iTunes Store. One thing I hate on this N8 is the music player. You can only sort by Album & Artist. I would prefer to sort by Album only or Artist only. My music list is all over the place because of it.
I think Nokia would be a much better phone if they concentrated on their music player.

5.1 audio is missing one channel and other stories

Ok, I started another post earlier about this problem, but I thought I'd explain it a different way.
Here's my problem. I go into the MSI Sound Manager and go to the speaker test tab. I click on every speaker and everyone of them works except the REAR RIGHT speaker. No sound comes out. If I put it up to my ear, there's some static but no sound! I tried every version of the Realtek driver under the sun as well as every BIOS update from 1.10 up to 1.9b2.
Here's the second problem:
I RMAed the first board to Newegg and they sent me another one. The second one did the same thing. MSI suggested that I take the mobo out of the case because maybe it was a grounding issue. I did that (had everything hooked up on a phonebook) and it didn't change anything. So, instead of sending back this board too I figured I'd try a Sound card instead. I picked up a turtle beach santa cruz card, disabled the onboard sound and installed this board. On that board, The front and rear channels work but nothing comes out of the center. Am I just so lucky that 3 pieces of sound hardware don't work for me?
All I want is 5.1 sound!

microsofts has a sound test program that will test 5.1 channels, and says right front left rear, etc. so if your still missing sounds after two boards, i would examine the jumpers , try both front and then rear jacks, then try the speakers on a different system , also look at speaker calibration and check speackers, physical knobs, fader balance etc..
also i just checked ebay and audigy2's can be had for 30$ or so, and may be worth investigating. are you in the us.
but i have a suspition that the problem is either the jack is not all the way in or speaker related, or a setting, as the chances of two boards with the same problem is slim but not impossible.

Ipad seems to have glitch when playing music in itunes and other music apps

When using the generic music player on my ipad it often freezes for upto 20seconds when i wish to play another song. this usually happens when i try to change track while the previous song is still playing.
Will there be a fix for this?
