Buying new 27" i7 iMac, but

Hi
My PC died a few weeks back. I decided to jump to Apple platform for my work. Instead of getting a HP desktop, I convinced IT to get me an iMac. They just put an order to get 27" new iMac with i7 processor.
I see lot of gripes on this forum about new 27" iMacs.
What are the things I should watch out for?
I will be installing Parallels with bootcamp.
I appreciate your help.
Honestly I can't wait...
Thanks
Videoguy

I just added a G7 Quad to my collection of PCs. The screen is glorious 2 complete web pages. So far knock on what ever has been with Adobe photo shop elements crashing, what ever new version is for Mac, I photo works Apiture works so not a problem yet and I think it is being worked on.

If you bought the iPhone from an authorized store/vendor, you should have taken the iPhone to them or any other Apple Store for evaluation under warranty.
Once it has been opened by non-Apple entity, Apple will not do anything for this.

You purchased a gray market phone. The iPhone is not available for sale from any Authorized source in Ukraine. There are no authorized or supported carriers in Ukraine.
Take it ack and get your money back.
If you want an iPhone, go to a country where unlocked iPhones are available for legitimate sale and purchase one directly from Apple.

  • Trying to download Elements on my new Retina display IMAC but I get an error box saying the certificate doesn't match.

I trying to download the trial for Elements but a dialogue box popped up and said the certificates don't match. What does that mean? Does it suggest that if I bought Elements that I couldn't download it? I just got a new Retina display iMAC and I'm trying to transfer the software but my older version of Elements 10 wouldn't install. So I thought maybe time to upgrade to 13 but I can't even download the trial. Any suggestions?

It means OS X doesn't like the security certificate for the page. You can try downloading from here as an alternative:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
This is an adobe-approved site, but you must follow the Very Important Instructions exactly, even when they don't seem to make sense.

  • Looking to buy MacBook Pro or iMac-but which?

I currently have a MacBook, which I bought Feb 2010-- have since added/replaced RAM with generic 2x2GB (so now 4GB ram v. 2GB),-- 2.26GHz Duo Core 350GB drive.
I do LOTS of scrapbooks and movie stuff (have even considered making it more than just a hobby and perhaps make it a business)... anyhow, when I have applications open, such as: iPhoto, Aperture, Photoshop Elements, iMovie, iDVD running or some portion of those, it feels so slow.  Encoding is a long process, etc.
I had made the switch from Windows-based to Mac in Feb 2010... not knowing I'd like the Mac so much, I went with the base model.
Now, I'd like to get something beefier, but not sure what route to go.  As I can tell, the new MBP's are a large upgrade to my current MB (between quad core and GHZ and RAM speed), but enough for my needs?
If I were to get the iMac, could I connect my current MB to it via cable and use my MB as a monitor (so I can have somewhat the portability of a laptop-[as long as the cable is long enough to my "portable" spot], but the processor of the iMac?)
A 27" iMac seems to be beefier and yet cheaper than a 17"MBP... so, my inclination is to go with the iMac.  The portability concerns me a bit, because right now, I have an option to go "scrapbook" at someone else's house with my MB.... not so easy with an iMac (maybe not too bad with the 21.5" iMac-not that I'd like to move a desktop often)- I really don't do this often, but I do sometimes like to be lazy on a Saturday morning and work a bit on a scrapbook in my leather chair--- if I know I am going to be doing an in-depth movie project or scrapbook for a while, I'd be fine sitting at a desk.
One could say that since I already have a MB, I could use that on Saturday mornings and at friend's houses doing my projects there that would not be as complicated/processor-needy.... and, use the iMac whenever I am doing the heftier projects and when I am going to be doing a lengthier project.  I am only concerned that I will want to beat my MB with a baseball bat as it will seem even SLOWER than it is to me now since I'd be accustomed to the speed of the new iMac. (Not to mention that I'd have to transfer some data through an external drive in order to get files from one computer to another).
Right now, working on just iPhoto on my MB seems to be slow... my workflow on that for the books is that I have found that I like to work through one event at a time and not pull the photos into the project.  So, each time I need to change the event I am working on, I have to exit out of the project, view the event, then load back into the project so that I can select the "recent event" photos.  This process seems to take a bit more time than I'd like.  (My workflow has changed from the previous version of iPhoto as the information (date, etc) was a lot easier to view while in the project- now I have to have my cursor sit over the photo for like 10 seconds before a date and file name shows up-quite aggravating).
Perhaps there is a better way to just select some photos from each event first and then pull them into the project.  But, I do one page at a time... and have found I like being able to view in closer (in my photo library) on some photos before choosing them for the album-- and I just note which ones I like before heading back into the book.  I have iPhoto '11 btw.
NOTE I GIVE THIS INFO ABOVE NOT NECESSARILY TO CREATE A DIFFERENT THREAD ON IPHOTO POINTERS, BUT JUST TO POINT OUT THAT LOADING THINGS ON MY MB SEEMS TO BE TIME CONSUMING-MORE TIME CONSUMING THAN I'D LIKE.  Sometimes I have files in different iPhoto libraries for iMovie, which means I need to load in and out of iPhoto libraries and in and out of iMovie if I need libraries refreshed.
Once the question," iMac or MBP?", is answered, my questions head to:
    upgrade the GHZ?
upgrade from 4GB RAM to 8GB (or 16GB on the iMac)?-- have heard more than 4GB might not be very useful- I have 4GB now, and wonder if that would have helped me out with my slowness to be able to go higher than 4GB (which my MB is limited to 4GB anyway).
assume the 7200RPM would be better on the MBP with smaller hard drive?
glossy or anti-glare?- my main use is photo editing and video-making--- don't play games and really don't watch movies.  I have heard the matte is better for photo-editing as it seems like a truer representation of how printings will look.
was figuring I'd get the hi-res screen no matter what model I got- worth it?
was considering refurbished if the options coincide with my needs.  should I be concerned doing this?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

You need to keep the MacBook Pro for other uses, forget getting a overheating "you can't change anything but the RAM, cost you a arm and a leg to fix it" iMac and get yourself a Windows tower where you CAN upgrade the video card time to time, and CAN tweak things and CAN switch out the monitor, the keyboard, add surround sound cards and tons of other things for your 3D gaming experience.
I know this sounds like blasphemy on a Apple site, but it's the god honest truth.
Your clearly in the "competitive" aspect of 3D gaming and all the newest, most powerful video cards are on Windows as there are more users on Windows, thus a larger market for buying upgrade cards.
3D games only really need a dual core processor as all their "work" is really video card (GPU) related.
Windows towers are also a heck of a lot less expensive than a MacPro, and all the "games choices" are on Windows.
Mac's are ALWAYS significantly behind their Windows cousins when it comes to 3D games and with laptops your restricted by battery or heat issues, unlike towers with their massive cooling.
MacPro's have trouble getting new video cards, back in the PowerMac days it was easy as they thought the "Mac is back as a 3D gamers machine" until the Intel swtich that is, it's like now you only get what comes with the new machine and god forbid if you went cheap.
Windows 7 is not that bad actually, it's a lot more "pleseant" and secure than before, you can install the free Microsoft Security Essentials and it will protect you from most casual malware. Sure enough just using it for gaming isn't going to bother you much, you'll hardly see it or use it, just long enough to launch the game.
Just don't go treating it like you would a near immune Mac and you shoudl be fine.
I'll let the Cinebench score show you what your missing.

  • Buying 20" 2.4GHz iMac, but this board is scaring me--

I'm about to dive in and buy a new 20" iMac 2.4GHz to replace my white iMac 2.0GHz, but reading thru these messages is scaring me to death.
Is EVERYONE having endless troubles with these new machines, or does it just seem that way because so many are being sold and all the complaints end up here?
Somebody pls write something reassuring on here, pls.

I was just reading a note by you on another thread in which you said you were able to iron out the vertical luminosity variation in your 20" Alum iMac, and that you now had a satisfactory screen.
I think it looks quite good but I'm not a professional graphics designer so I can't say if my perception of good meets professional standards. It wasn't complicated, I changed the gamma to 2.2, set whitespace to the PC standard D65 and balanced all of the other settings by bringing them to intersection of the cross hairs in the advanced calibration panels.
But boy, you are in the minority of posters.
I'm not so sure about that. A lot of noise has been generated by a handful of people who keep repeating the same comments in every thread that pops up on this issue. A significant number of those threads were started by mysterious one-time wonders who posted a complaint as their first post only to disappear again after stirring up a controversy. Most of the other comments that have been posted are from people who saw store displays with uncalibrated monitors under the glare of rows of industrial lighting.
I'm scared but will get my new 20" Tuesday and will compare to my 20" White 2.0GHz iMac. If the new one's bad I'll return to Amazon and explain that it's a flawed machine.
If you're not satisfied with it, return it or contact AppleCare. The 6-bit TN panels use a bit of sorcery to make it look like they can actually reproduce 16 million colors but they should still give a decent display. Reports of pronounced gradients and other such anomalies are not normal, even for a TN display. If you have one of those it's defective hardware, so they should be obligated to replace it.
However, I don't know what to do if that's the case.
If you're not in a hurry you could just wait a bit longer. Given Apple's history, I suspect it's only a matter of time before they release a 20" model with an 8-bit panel.

  • I can buy new app.. But when I buy in-app purchase, he ask mi contact iTunes Store to complete transition..

Any1 there to help mi out.. Sometime I can buy but sometime can't..

Did you follow the instructions in the message and contact Apple, which you can do through iTunes Store Support. If Apple have asked you to contact them, then the issue can only be resolved by them.

  • Recordings from my Sony digital voice recorder transferred from WindowsXP  to my new Mountain Lion iMac but will not open to hear. Is there a program to give me access to these important records?

All my material moved from my Windows XP to my new desktop Mac Mountain Lion, including the important recordings from my Sony digital IC voice Recorder , but they will  not open in a form to be listened to. Is there a program available to give access to these audio files and allow continued use of this recorder ?

It is a proprietary Sony format, you will need help from them.

  • If I buy Pages on my iMac, did I have to pay for Pages on my iPad a second time ?

I want to buy Pages on my iMac, but I need it to on my iPad. Did I have to pay to time, or if I buy it on AppStore on my iMac, I have it in my iPad ?
    Thanks for your responses.
    Have a nice day.

    Yes.
    They use different Platforms.
    iPad = iOS
    Mac = OS X

  • I am about to buy the new iMac, but do I have to buy all the software I have in my old one, like Aperture, pages, etc.?

I am about to buy the new iMac, but do I have to buy all the software I have in my old one, like Aperture, pages, etc.?

No, you don't. If you got it from the Mac App Store, log into it with the same Apple ID and redownload it for free. If you got it from CDs or DVDs, reinstall it from those; having the DVD version of a program does not get you a free download of it from the Mac App Store.

  • In Hongkong. I want to buy new iMac, But need to sell old one first. Where is good for sell??

    Please help me.
    Please give me a suggestion.
I want to buy new iMac, but need to sell old one.
    About following the info.
How much can sell and where is good for sell?
Processor  2.93 GHz Intel Core i7
    Total Number of Cores:          4
    Processor Interconnect Speed: 4.8 GT/s
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)
    1TB harddisk
    Warranty to 02/Aug/2013
    Thank you for your help.

When you sell your iMac, please remember that if you bought Mountain Lion upgrade at the app store, the license is not transferable and you need to erase the drive and reinstall the original system (which was most likely Snow Leopard?). If you don't do that, the buyer can never reinstall Mountain Lion because the license is tied to your Apple ID forever.

New to the iMac and apple

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you aren't going to use your Mac for anything special (Final Cut, Aperture, Photoshop, games...), you don't need that graphic card and you will save money.
Also, as it looks like you are going to buy the 27-inch iMac, I recommend you to buy the Mac with 8 GB of memory, and then, buy the memory that your iMac needs in OWC or Crucial (the iMac supports 32 GB of RAM) > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2012_27/DDR3L
Doing this, you will save a lot of money. Also, it won't void the warranty of the Mac. If you need help installing the RAM, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5540

  • Can i trade in my old imac air when i am buying new iMac air???

can i trade in my old imac air when i am buying new iMac air??? cause the one that i got is 11inch, but it kinds of too small..so i thinking to buy the new one..

Apple does not accept trade ins.  But you could certainly sell your old machine.  You say "iMac Air", and there is actually no machine with that name.  So get the name right and you can hunt around for what your old machine might be worth.
