Buying new computer, tranferring iTunes and music files

I plan to buy a new computer in the very near future.
If I download iTunes and then log into it with my user name, will all my library and art work be there? Or do I have to do something else to take all this information from my old computer to my new computer?

*If I download iTunes and then log into it with my user name, will all my library and art work be there?*
No, nothing will be there.
You need to install iTunes onto the new computer, then copy the _iTunes folder_ (My Documents/My music/iTunes) from your old computer to the new computer.

Apparently I wasn't clear.  The music on my ipod is but a subset of all the music on my external hard drives.  I want to import only the songs and playlists from my existing ipod into the itunes library on my new computer, which currently has no music or playlists.  How can I do this?

Because you can only synce with one iTunes library and you are switching libries by using the new computer. To nake this yyour syncing computer:
    - Move all the media(apps, music, synced video and photos etc) to the new computer.
    - Connect the iPofd yo the computer and bake a backup fo the iPod by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup.
Note that the backup that iTunes makes doe not include media.

  • Can't get iTunes on new computer to show iCloud music files or manually manage phone

I have so many questions. Normally I use iTunes on my work PC, but I got a new home PC, downloaded iTunes, logged in with Apple ID, yet I don't see any of the music showing up from my Cloud. And when I plug my phone in, I'm unable to add/delete some files that I had manually added at work. How do I get my home and work PC to sync so that I can plug my phone into either and pull down music, or add/delete files? Both conputers are authorized.
If it's a syncing issue, can I only sync to one computer? And how do I do that?

    Hi Samma7,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The articles below may help you with this.  You can only sync your iPhone to one iTunes Library, so you will have to decide which computer to use.  I would suggest following the steps in the article below to backup your iTunes library to an external drive to copy it to your new computer at home.

  • Bought a new computer, downloaded itunes and no longer have access to my library

I bought a new computer and when I downloaded itunes, my previous library was not there (I thought it was generated by log in not by computer?)  I tried plugging my ipod in to see if I could transfer the music I have on the ipod to itunes library it won't let me, just asks if I want to sync and replace with empty library.  how do I get my music from my ipod to my new computer?
    Thanks

Your library will only be where you put it.
The ipod is not a backup device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • I got a new computer, downloading iTunes and I need to know how to sync the iPod with itunes so I don't lose songs.

Can you tell me how to sync my iPOD with my new computer.  I downloaded iTunes but the library is different.

  • Buy new computer with Yosemite and downgrade to Mountain Lion?

Is it possible to buy a new machine with Yosemite and instead somehow downgrade/revert to Mountain Lion?  There's a program I like to use that is no longer updated by the developer and isn't terribly stable on the latest two releases of OS X...

No, except by running it inside a program such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion.

  • Tranfering pictures and Music file via Bluetooth from Nokia Express Music

Hi, I'm having issues with the bluetooth connectivity. My Flat mate has a nokia 5800 express music. We have tried to connect via bluetooth my phone has located his 5800 and seems to connect but i have no idea how to send pictures to him or to recieve anything from his phone....On the bluetooth screen there are no options that appear!?
I presume the music files might not be interchangabe due to different formats?? Surely we can swap pictures thought???

Datatransfer via bluetooth is not supported by this time. Only handsfree devices and headsets can pair with the phone. http://www.apple.com/iphone/how-to/#settings.bluetooth

  • I recently bought a new computer, downloaded itunes and all my music from the cloud, made a few more purchases on itunes then plugged in my ipod and it wont sync. My ipod is already associated with my itunes account and the computer is authorised...

I have a new laptop which will not sync my ipod to it. I've registered the computer, this is the only ipod associated with this itunes account. It shows the syncing symbol on the laptop and on the ipod but then when i eject the ipod afterwards the new songs have not transfered or my playlists.

What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an iTunes "account."  The account that is related to iTunes is your Apple ID, which you use to sign in to the iTunes Store and make purchases.  It is also used with iCloud.  iPods (that are not iPod touch) are associated with your iTunes library, not to your Apple ID.
So, I think you probably just need to set up (or update) automatic syncing for the iPod.  If it's not set up to sync those new songs, iTunes still syncs the iPod, but it syncs nothing
In iTunes, if the sidebar (along left side of iTunes window) is hidden, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.  In the sidebar, the iPod appears under DEVICES, when it is connected.
Select the iPod in iTunes.  There is a row of buttons, starting with Summary.  Click on Music next to Summary.  This is the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music (if it's not already checked).  If your iTunes music library fits completely on the iPod, you can choose to sync Entire music library.  Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  On the lists below, checkmark the playlists, artists, albums, and/or genres that you want on the iPod.  When you click Apply, the songs from your selection sync to the iPod.
One convenient way to set this up (if you can't sync the entire iTunes music library) is to create a new playlist in your iTunes library.  Name it "iPod Songs" (or whatever you want).  Put ALL songs that you want on the iPod on this playlist, including those new songs.  Back on the iPod's Music screen in iTunes, select this playlist under Playlists.  Going forward, to update songs on the iPod, just update that playlist in your iTunes library (add/remove songs).  The next time you connect the iPod (or click the Sync button), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

  • Laptop crashed during update. New computer reinstalled itunes and most of music missing.

How can I retrieve lost files?

Unless you have a backup, they would still be on the old computer's hard drive.

  • FIle path between iTunes and music files broken

Somehow I've managed to lose the file path connecting my songs on an external hard drive with iTunes. I've checked the advanced aoptions to make sure that iTunes is pointing to F: (instead of C:) but no dice.
Obviously I can go through and reconnect them all individually but for 16,000 songs that's not an option. I also don't want to reload the song files (by opening them directly from the drive) and lose all my play count information.
I've had this happen before when upgrading PCs or when the EHD was renamed and been able to fix it but this time nothing seems to work.

Yes it has. I recently changed from laptop to PC and managed to load iTunes on PC, copy across playcount and album artwork information and have the EHD connected and showing the correct pathways. Everything was working fine for about 3 days. When launching iTunes a couple of days ago, it asked me to go through the setup screens again (which I did) and since then the file paths have been missing. I've been into the xml file of the iTunes library and it shows everything pointing to the default c: drive location. This may be because I read that consolidating the library (under the advanced tab) would help but it didn't.

  • How to use copied music files on a new computer under iTunes

I have copied my music files to a new computer and put them into the iTunes Music folder. How do I get the iTunes application on the new computer to recognize the music files (list of previously downloaded music CDs) so that I can now play them on this computer.
    Thanks in anticipation.
    Ray

I have now determined the problem. I have just had to rebuild my system and had not loaded the audio drivers so it would not play music. So your original answer was all that was needed (had the audio drivers been installed).
    Many thanks for your help.

  • Transfering iTunes and music library to another computer

    Hello,
I just got a new computer and I want to transfer my iTunes and music library to it. I would normally just transfer the files to the new computer, install iTunes, and rebuild my library, but there are two things: 1) I don't want to lose my playlists and 2) I have purchased music from the iTunes Music Store and I'm not sure it will play if I do it like that.
I have a feeling it has to do with deauthorizing the old computer.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

You will definitely have to authorize your new computer. And if you won't be using the old one to play purchased songs any more, you should de-authorize it. Have a look at:

  • How do I get iTunes on a new computer to recognize and use my files on the local drive?  My music files on iCloud have been recognized.

My old computer failed.  All files, including iTunes were backed up on a separate drive.  All files have been loaded on the new computer.  iTunes was reloaded, and recognizes all files on iCloud, but does not link to the files on the computer.  How can I re-establish that linkage?

    Hello jzinser,
I am not sure on how you reset up your iTunes library on your new computer. If you copied the music by dragging on top of iTunes, then the media would have been put into the proper location. If you have the media copied to your computer and have not established in iTunes where it sits, then you will need to do that within the preferences in iTunes. Take a look at the articles below for more information to help sort this out.

  • I just bought a new computer, now itunes tells me I can only sync with one computer.  It only offers me the choice to erase and sync.  I do not want to erase my ipod, I just want my music on the new computer.  Can't I just transfer the songs from the ipod

I just bought a new computer.  Itunes only offers me the option of erase and sync, as I can only have it sync'd with one computer.  I want to move my music to this computer from my ipod.  Is this possible, or do I have to go back to my cds and upload everything from there?  I just want to be able to move my music from my ipod to the new computer.

You need to transfer your iTunes Library from the old computer to the new one - then you can carry on syncing as normal. You can't move non-purchased music from an iPod to iTunes using iTunes. For purchased music, choose iTunes > File > Transfer purchases...
