Buying OS X software abroad

I'm currently living in Spain and operating on OS X 10.5.8.  I would like to upgrade to Snow Leopard in order to then upgrade to Mavericks.  If I were to buy OS X Snow Leopard from an Apple Store/retailer here in Spain, would I be able to install it onto my American computer without a problem?  Do software CDs have regions like DVDs do?

After Snow Leopard:
Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) model number 5,1 or higher
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) model number 2,1 or higher
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) model number 3,1 or higher
Xserve (Early 2009) model number 3,1 or higher
Your Mac needs:
OS X v10.6.8 or OS X Lion already installed
2 GB or more of memory (More is better - 4 GB minimum seems to be the consensus)
8 GB or more of available space
Check to make sure your applications are compatible. PowerPC applications are no longer supported after 10.6.

If your computer isn’t compatible, you might be able to upgrade to Lion.

I get error 5002 when trying to buy 3.1 software for iPod touch 1st gen.

That is a paid update you get here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)

  • Can I buy 1 update software for 2 Macs?

I have two Macs, one with Lion and One with Snow Leopard, Can I buy just one software update for the two Macs? or Do I have to buy one for each one?

You only need to purchase Mountain Lion once per Apple ID. Create a copy of the installer after downloading it but before starting the actual installation.

Dear I need to upgrade my Mac Bookpro from 10.4.11 to the latest software is there is any solutions in order to buy install the software online through itunes or so

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

As long as your MacBook Pro is in the ML compatible list, http://www.apple.com/osx/specs it is compatible with Mavericks and you can go directly to Mavericks.

No, you don't. If you got it from the Mac App Store, log into it with the same Apple ID and redownload it for free. If you got it from CDs or DVDs, reinstall it from those; having the DVD version of a program does not get you a free download of it from the Mac App Store.

  • Can you buy OS X software online?

can you buy OS X software online?

The App Store does have a lot of applications you can download for your Mac.
If you are looking to buy Mac OS X 10.6  you can buy it on the Apple website but they will send you a disc in order to install it. It will not be downloaded from the internet.
You can also get earlier versions of Mac OS X by calling AppleCare or going to websites such as welovemacs.com

  • Buying new/updated software

I have a few Adobe products sitting around since I received them for college purposes, which meant they had "Education" typed on the boxes.
Question one: Now I've assumed that since they are educational/student products, that means I am not allowed to create a piece of work and then sell said piece for money. Correct? For example, if I was create an elaborate or simplistic piece of wallpaper or artwork, and then said for a certain price, $30, you can own this piece, that would be considered illegal, correct?
Question two: IF I end up buying the newest versions, say CS6 for Photoshop and Illustrator, what licencing purposes would I get? Would they be software that a had a license that would allow me to create something and then sell it off for somebody else to use in their project or for personal needs?
Going back to the previous example, would that no longer be considered illegal and therefore a break of the "Educational" licence terms?

  • Buying native language software

My family have recently bought 3 iMacs (+ MBAir and ipods etc) and really enjoy using them. Our intention is to run a business from home and this hardware fits the bill for our creative aspirations. However, there is a HUGE problem for us. We live in Spain and however hard we try, we cannot buy new software in English without contacting Apple and making a special arrangement. This takes days and is on the whole pretty irritating. I would like to upgrade to Quicktime Pro but again, it is only available in Spanish through the Spanish store.
I really think Apple should consider this problem because there must be thousands of expats across the world who would prefer to buy software in their native tongue but are limited by location. Interestingly, the original software that came with my Mac is English so it must be possible.

    Hi(Bonjour)!
There are usually many languages bundled with Apple software. I do not know if FCE include spanish.
The specific language you choose when you buy the software set the language for packaging and paper documentation.
The users have 2 ways to set language for application.
First, use the international pref panel and drag the desired language on top of the list (as suggested earlier in this topic). Your mac will use this language. All application (like QT player in your question) will use this language.
The second way is to select the application icon and use the get infos command (COMMAND-i). From this point uncheck the undesired languages. The next time you'll start this app, this settings will bypass the system language.
Example: I use my mac in French, but I use Final Cut express in english (for forum purpose) using this tips.

  • I want to buy second hand software, help please

    Hi guys,
I really want to buy the final cut studio studio. I found this guy, he wants to do a better price on his software.
But how can l be sure that is good. I mean What about if he did a copy of it, or did register it. Waht can go wrong if i buy it?
Can you guys give me a clue. I'm a clue less about buy from someone else.
    thanks you all.

Thanks you all. I find out if i get all the cds boxes license manual etc. Is ok, l will have no problem.
But if the seller keep a copy for himself or give it away, in the future some one can try to register it. So apple will not be able to know who has the original version of the software anymore, updates and support can be cancel for that serial number. So my be not a very good ideia. I did call apple care and asked this.
Like Jim said on my other post. "Only buy used software from your mother"
    Thanks you all

This reads like you want to buy the rights to Photoshop from Adobe, which would be fair, as Adobe and other mega software companies have done more than their share of buy-outs over the years.  But if a takeover bid is what you have in mind, apart from needing an insane amount of dollars, you'd also be taking on the Photoshop Development Team complete with their 'artistic temperaments'.  In fact some of them are downright strange :

  • Why buy 3rd party software from app store?

I want to buy the home accounting software YNAB. I could buy it directly from the vendor or (for the same price) from the Mac App Store. (Apple takes 1/3 of the price; I care about that, but only slightly.) With the receipt, the vendor will also allow me to use the product on its own, on multiple devices, with no reference to the App Store, and on Windows machines (which I don't have). Or, buying YNAB from the App Store, I can use it with any device that I am sharing with. Someone can correct me if I have misunderstood the details of these two ways to buy the software. Will these differences matter at all to me? I'm trying to imagine a scenario where one or the other is preferable.

Minor updates from the MAS are free, major version upgrades are usually paid. However, it isn't up to Apple, it is the developer's choice whether to issue upgrades for free. The issue is that Apple isn't going to get in the middle of giving the app as a free upgrade and selling the same version as a paid app. The version is either a paid app or a free app.
You are able to install the apps from the MAS on as many Macs as you own or have in your control. A Mac belonging to your employer, but which you share with other employees, is not in your control. A Mac issued to you by your employer for your sole use, is in your control.

  • I was told by apple support that I have malware on my iMac that is trying to convince me to buy their cleanup software.  I was told it was a scam and my computer is not infected, but they want my credit card info.  How do I remove the malware?

How do I remove malware from my iMac?

you can do a Google search for "anti-virus" and "mac" and see what you come up with. I think Norton now makes a program for mac with anti-trogan and anti-rootkit detection, and hopefully it'll get better with more time and more complaints
As laverne's mom said, Norton's should never be installed on any Mac - period. I would not let it within 10 feet of my machines. It creates so many problems, it should be considered malware.  If you must install AV software, try ClamXAV; it is free. However, there are no viruses for Mac; the current problem is a trojan and if due diligence is observed, there is no problem.

  • Mac App Store works fine for buying/installing new software, but times out when looking for updates. Help?

I just got a (lightly) used Mac Mini as a second computer (2010 model). Logged into Mac App Store with my Apple ID and tried to check for updates...received "An error has occurred - The request timed out" message. Was able to go to the main App Store page and download/install OS X Mountain Lion...then tried again and still got the time-out error. Any ideas of what is happening and how to get Software Update to work?

Apps already installed by the former owner of the Mini are associated with that persons Apple iD. You won't be able to update any of those apps using your Apple iD. Those apps will have to be purchased from your Apple ID only.
Apparently the previous owner had not upgraded to Mountain Lion as yet, or you would not have been able to download and install that OS X.
