  • Why buy Quicktime Pro?

What are the advantages of buying Quicktime Pro? I ask this is this folder becuase I was planning on using Quicktime to import video. Other than that, any reasons why I would want it? I could care less about watching movie trailers fullscreen etc....
    thanks all

    Thank you guys.
You have answered my questions. I do remember someone telling me that QT was somewhat rudimentary compared to FCP, but that has been a while.
If I wanted to still use the liscense, where is it located on the packaging?? Or is it imbedded?
I also just realized I posted my question in the wrong folder, sorry. But again, thank you for your help!!
Resolution, Use FCP for import, and do not bother with QT.

DO you have the free Quicktime player?
You can buy Quicktime Pro from the Help menu.
I haven't done so myself so I can't talk you though it.
If you don't have the free player, you can download it from:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
If you don't want iTunes, be sure to download the version without iTunes.

  • I've bought quicktime pro, entered the registration code but am directed to buy quicktime pro again

I've bought quicktime pro, entered the registration code but am directed to buy quicktime pro again. Quicktime 7 is showing 'Pro' after I enter registration under 'Registration'. I have an email receipt from Apple store saying it is purchased. Yet when I try to use the Pro features they are greyed out. Ripped off?

I've bought quicktime pro, entered the registration code but am directed to buy quicktime pro again.
Are you pressing the "RETURN" key to enter the registered information or the "TAB" key? "Pro" registration instructions clearly state that the "TAB" key must be used. If you used the "TAB" key to register the "Pro" key information and the "Pro" features are still grey, do you actually have a file loaded in a player window. I.e., the "Pro" features cannot be accessed if a file has not been opened in the application since they are context adaptive and, as QT Kirk pointed out, must be able to "see" the type of file you wish to edit since the features available may depend on which type of file you are trying to edit.

I purchased a QT Pro Reg. Code Key. When I install it in the QT Preferences Panel, I get an: "Invalid Registration" note at the bottom, next to the "Buy QuickTime Pro" button to the right. Both on a desk top and a laptop. Win 7, QT version 7.7.1. No joy! I've been on the phone with Apple for a little more than an hour, so far. They have my money. anyone have any Ideas? Just kiss the thirty bucks goodbye?

You,Sir, are "The Man"! I followed the instructions and - viola - Joy in Mudville. Thank you, keep up the great work. Even the "Apple" people don't seem to know this. I was on the phone with them, passed from one to another, for over an hour. While waiting I stumbled on your advise and I was made free! If they ask you, charge them a mint for the information. You Sir have gone where no Apple has gone before.

  • How do I 'buy' Quicktime Pro?

I am new to Mac and trying to set up the new Mac for Video Editing.
I tried buying Quicktime from the Apple site - but it wont accept my Australian phone number, I tried everything but it would not take my money. Finally I called some friends and they said it was because of different pricing arrangements and said I had to load my software from the Australian shop. What the? - so instead of paying $29, I went to the Australian online shop - which charges $49. Ok, I got over that after some ranting.
Then it says when I 'buy' it, it will send me a password to enter into Quicktime 7 Preferences - but First it says I need to download Quicktime 7. So I did that, but it refuses to load this, as the Mac says to me that there is ALREADY Quicktime X loaded on my machine. So I look - and yes I have Quicktime 10.
So if I have ten and I cant get 7, how do I upgrade to Pro?
The entire object is to set up Final Cut Pro - however I need to convert all the other types of movies that FCP cant handle. And I am led to believe Quicktime PRO 7 does that to at least some of the videos I have.
I have heaps I need to use - and they are
    .3gp
.avi    (which I want to use Quicktime Pro to convert)
    .DIF
    .flv
    .mpg
    .mpeg
    .m2v
    .mp4
    .mov
    .wmv
But - to start with - how do I get PRO to load?

According to the various support notes - if I have FCP installed first (I have) and then I install QT7, it should automatically become PRO. It doesnt. So now what?
    Any ideas?
Re-run the FCP installation. I believe it has to "see" QT 7 while installing before the FCP installer will upgrade the QT 7 Player to QT 7 Pro. (Same solution if the automatic "Pro" registration is lost during OS upgrade/installation.)
With Regard to QT 7 registration, if you actually purchased a QT 7 "Pro" key and did not receive the email with registration name and key number, then contact customer service at the online Apple store where you purchased the key. (Be sure to have purchaser order information available.) Non-receipt of confirmation email may indicate the "key" was not properly generated. If they can confirm this, then your money should be refunded and, since you no longer need the key with FCP use, you should be good to go...

  • If I buy Quicktime pro will it be a multi region DVD player?

I am looking into buying a region free dvd player - if i upgrade to Quicktime Pro does it mean it will be able to play any DVDs? Otherwise does anyone know of another??

I am looking into buying a region free dvd player - if i upgrade to Quicktime Pro does it mean it will be able to play any DVDs?
No, QT is not a DVD playing app whether keyed for pro use or not.
Otherwise does anyone know of another?
DVD player apps play DVDs for whichever region your DVD hardware device is set.

  • If I buy Quicktime PRO...?

Will I be able to...export my .wmv movies to idvd, imovie or Final Cut as another format?
I can now but since i haven't purchased Flip4mac the flip4mac website comes across the preview screen of idvd, imovie and FCPE. Does quicktime pro solve that problem by having the option to convert the .wmv file to another format? Or do i need to buy Flip4mac?
Another thing i would like to do is take my downloaded music videos that are mostly in mpg to dvd. Would Quicktime PRO allow me to export what i'm watching on it to a compatible format for say idvd?
Can i download quicktime pro from the internet or does it have to come through the mail as i'm trying to finish a project tomorrow?

Paid upgrades of Flip4Mac are required to convert WMP formats.
QuickTime Pro can't export audio from MPEG 1 or 2. Use MPEG Streamclip.
Nothing to download. The registration info comes in an email.

  • Cannot use itunes or quicktime since buying quickTime Pro

Itunes and Quicktime were working great. I purchased the key for QuickTime Pro and input it. Now, whenever I start itunes I get "please wait while windows configures itunes..." but it never configures.
When I click "Quicktime Player" I get "Could not load or find the quicktime active X control".
I have tried running both programs as an administrator, rebooting, reinstalling, etc. The programs are both hosed.
I tried the registry edits suggested. When running AS AN ADMINISTRATOR I get "pcast cannot be opened. An error is preventing this key from being opened. Access is denied"
How do I get this working again? I'm going to challenge the charge on my credit card if I can't get my system back the way it was.

I have the same problem. Is there any soluations?

  • Downloading mp3s and getting only the exhortation to buy quicktime pro

    Hi there,
I do IT support for distance ed. students at a university, and some of them who are PC users are having trouble downloading mp3 files of lectures. When they right-click, there is no option to 'save target as', only the invitation to purchase Quicktime Pro. It's my understanding that it SHOULDN'T be necessary to purchase this product in order to download these files. What can I suggest that they do to remedy this inability to download mp3s?
    Thanks in advance.
    kcparker

This is the note I got back from my tester. Any other thoughts?
That is not working for me. It is a little different path to get the location but I think I did what you were instructing.
    QuickTime
    Edit-Preferences-Quicktime preferences
    Browser Tab
    MIME Settings
MP3-MPEG layer III movies and streams and put a check in the boxes, MP3 audio and MP3 playlist
But it still only gives me the PRO save as source option.

  • After buying Quicktime Pro, I can't get it to run

I just bought Quicktime Pro, and I can't get it to open. Even after restarting my computer, the Quicktime Player opens fine, but not Pro. (I put my key # in the Quicktime control panel, and it registered "Quicktime Pro"... just like the instructions.
    Dell Dimension 4550   Windows XP

Just to make sure you're clear, QuickTime Pro is not a separate application, so nothing different will launch. A Pro key just unlocks the extra features of QuickTime Player and the QuickTime browser plugin. If the Pro labels have gone from the menu items in QT Player, then your key is correctly registered and you should be good to go.

  • QuickTime Movie Files Won't Convert For iPod using iTunes and QuickTime Pro

I've got a ton, and I mean a ton of QuickTime movie files of music videos that I want to convert to use on the iPod. I tried using "Convert Selection For iPod" in the Advanced Menu on iTunes, but got the following message trying convert a QuickTime file of U2's Beautiful Day:
""Beautiful Day" could not be converted because this file does not allow for saving or conversion."
I purchased QuickTime Pro hoping that the features on Pro would convert the file. When I opened the same file to convert using QuickTime Pro, "Export" under the file menu was grayed out so I couldn't select it.
You'd think that an APPLE QuickTime Movie file that can be played on APPLE'S iTunes and APPLE'S QuickTime Player would be able to be converted to be used in APPLE'S iPod player. (Anybody notice how APPLE is capitalized to point out that the the hardware, software and file formats are ALL Apple?)
Instead I wasted money buying QuickTime Pro when it won't do what I specifically bought it for. Now I have all these QuickTime files which won't play on the iPod.
Can anybody provide some help or assistance on how to accomplish what I'm trying to accomplish???

If the file doesn't allow saving or conversions then it is protected by DRM (Fairplay).
Nothing can help QuickTime Pro convert protected files.

  • Can Quicktime Pro be used on two computers with one registration code?

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend who uses Windows. If you buy Quicktime Pro, can you put it on two computers? Because she might buy a new computer soon and she wants to know if she would have to buy it twice or not. Thanks
.....Sorry if this has an obvious answer or if it's been asked before, but I've searched and couldn't find anything

While the license is only good on one computer at a time you can delete the Quicktime preferences file on the first (removing the registraion on that machine) and install on a second machine. Of course, that is only if you are installing the same version of QT on the machines. The key will be good for any updates of a given version number but will not work with any subsequent whole version number release.
