Buying the iphone 4 without the contract?

Ok guys I am aware that the starting price without a contract is $599.99
but my question is; I want to buy the phone as a gift, I do not want to have to activate it. I called my local AT&T, and they said that I have to activate it when I make a purchase. Anyone have experience buying it as a gift or who knows a way around it?

HI,
Check here. iPhone / FAQ's
See number 2 at the bottom of that page.
And here: Should I Give an iPhone as a Gift?
A better way to do this might be an Apple Gift Card. Gift Card / Apple Store U.S.
Any Apple store in the United States ...

Contract free versus SIM free are different. What you want to do is to wait for Apple to sell the SIM free version of the iPhone 6. See this explanation from the Apple 5S page that details this...
If you buy iPhone for T-Mobile, it will arrive with a nano-SIM card already installed that you can activate by visiting an Apple Retail Store or a T-Mobile store or by calling T-Mobile. If you buy a SIM-free iPhone, you will need to purchase a GSM-compatible nano-SIM card separately. In the United States, you can purchase such a SIM from AT&T or T-Mobile. When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5s from a local GSM carrier.
Also be aware warranty service is country specific. So if you buy a phone in the US and it develops problems you would need to return it for service in the US...

  • Can I buy an unlocked iPhone 5 without a contract?

Hello, I live in China. I'm visiting the US this winter, and I wanted to know if I could buy an unlocked iPhone 5 without a contract.
Since I'll only be visiting, I won't be needing it with a contract.
    Is this possible?
I would buy this in China, but I know for a fact that an iPhone 4s ALONE would cost about $800 US dollars.
I'd perfer not to spend that much money on a phone when I can buy the original.
China has the tendency to make fake products, and I definitely don't want to pay $800+ US dollars for a fake.
So is it possible I can buy an unlocked iPhone 5 without a contract?

but it will work on 3g in india...and also it seems much cheaper in US rather than in India...again no warranty but i think these types of gadgets work for long....
But the risk is high and sometimes it's not worth it. Anyway, good luck to you.

  • Buying an Iphone 4 without being American.

Hi! i'm from Argentina and I'm trying to buy an iphone 4 without contract. Is it possible to do that withou having a social security number and no ATT account? I have no problems to pay the full price. Thanks in advance for the info.

Yes. I have ordered pay as you go cards online, they are sent to me, and never had to give them a social security number. The reason why they want social security number is thatif you do a 2 year contract with them, they can verify that you are credit worthy for that contract. You pay full price for the phone, they dont care as they risk nothing.

  • Buying an iPhone 3GS without the AT&T contract.??

Hi there... I live Ohio and I was thinking of buying an iPhone 3GS (16GB).
My question is that if I buy the iPhone from an Apple Store without the AT&T contract (approx 600USD for the 16GB model) from the United States, will I be able to use my phone in other countries with their local network carrier's SIM cards? I have a traveling job (have to switch countries every 3-4 months or at least twice a year) so I usually buy a local SIM from the country that I live in since that is a cheaper option for me.
I have wanted an iPhone since a very long time now but I hate what Apple has done (the contract with AT&T). What good is a phone for a person like me who travels so much in a year?!! I need a phone where I can switch SIM cards without any hassles.
Hope someone has an answer to my question. I don't want to buy the iPhone unless I'm absolutely sure that it will work in other countries (mainly Australia, UAE & India)

ALL U.S. iphones are carrier locked to AT&T in the U.S. They CANNOT be activated with any other carrier in any other country.
You need to buy an unlocked phone from one of the few countries that offer this.

  • How many iphones I can buy the contract price by using family plan?

The apple.com only allows me to buy one iphone.
if I choose a sprint family plan, can I buy more than one iphone by contract price?
Can I buy them on apple.com or I need to go to a sprint retail?

I believe Apple's limit is 2 phones per purchase, at least during the first few weeks of a release.  That's not to say you could not do 2 purchases of 2 phones.
How many lines to do you have elligible for upgrade?

  • Buying an iPhone 4 without iOS 6?

I own a MacBook from 2008 and an iPad from 2011, I am a loyal apple customer. I have never doubted my choice to be a life long apple user, until today. I have been planning on buying an iPhone 4 when my current cellphone plan runs out, but today I updated my iPad to the iOS 6 and I HATE it. I'm curious to know if I were to buy an iPhone 4, would I automatically be forced onto iOS 6, or could I choose the one before that? This will influence my choice to buy an iPhone at all. I am incredibly disappointed with the map app and would rather look into a completely different phone than be annoyed on a daily basis with the iPhone, which I know can be a better device than it is today.

If you buy from Apple (do they even sell iPhone 4 any more?) or a cellular carrier, you will almost certainly get iOS 6.  If you buy from some lesser known third party, you may have more selection, but then there is another party in the transaction that you have to think about (in case of hardware failure, for example(.
Whatever it is that you don't like about iOS 6 is very likely to improve soon.  If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to go that route.

  • How can I use the iPhone GPS without a contract?

Is there any way? Call me crazy, but I want GPS and I already have a cellphone that I'm not interested in replacing. Would it be possible to go and get an iPhone and use the GPS without paying for a plan? I already use AT&T, but what don't want is to pay for the data plan. Does the GPS system use the AT&T service to function at all?
    Thanks!

The iPhone 3G will be sold at at&t and Apple brick and mortar stores only - at least initially, and activation and signing a two year contract will be required at the store when the iPhone is purchased. The unlimited data plan is not an option and is required.
The iPhone includes what is called A-GPS or assisted GPS.
The iPhone Maps application downloads selected maps from Google, which is downloaded to the iPhone via wi-fi or at&t's cellular network. GPS without having access to maps won't be much good. Some 3rd parties may provide select maps that can be purchased and downloaded to the iPhone via the iTunes App Store for access via GPS if there is no cell phone reception, but this is unknown.

  • Hello, if i buy an iphone 5s with a contract what will i have to do in these 2 years

Most carrier in the U.S. after your two year contract is up you can purchase a subsidized iphone.
Most carrier in the US (and everywhere else) when your contract is up, you simply own the phone. You don't then need purchase it to own it.

  • Is it possible to buy iPhone 4 without a simlock

    Hi
I am from Turkey and will be visiting USA. Im thinking of buying an iPhone 4 without a contract as its much cheaper there(about 1/3 of the price of here). But as far as i read on the internet even if you buy without a contract the phones come with an at&t simlock. Is it possible to buy an iPhone 4 without a simlock in the USA?
    Thanks

Hi Cagri, Yes good for you doing some research before you buy. As stated the US iPhone is simlocked and cannot be officially unlocked. If you are going to be close to Canada you can buy a unlocked phone from an Apple Retail Store. If you do so, please bring a micro sim from your carrier to ensure it will work before you head home. Also note that is you buy an iPhone from another country, if any warranty issues you will need to ship the phone to someone you know in that country, Canada or UK, and have them bring it to Apple for service. All at your expense. While you may be initially saving 1/3 of the cost, it could cost you much more down the road.
Hope this info will help you.
    Good Luck.

  • Buying an iPhone abroad

I'm from Italy and I would like to buy the new iPhone 4S in the UK, because in Italy it's much more expensive. If I buy this iPhone abroad without a contract, and then I come back to Italy, will I have problems with using it with my operator? And how guarantee works in that case? I'm not interesting in Jailbreaking it.
    Thank you very much indeed!
    Francesco

Buying iPhone to use it in roaming for that long time is not really a good idea. While it is locked to AT&T only you can`t use local SIM card. Roaming charges are going to be huge.
Also SIM free iPhones are going to be available in Russia in September. Despite the price of 1200-1400 US $ it is still better deal than roaming. Also you can use it back in the States for more reasonable plans.
    Best,
    Anton

  • What is the criteria for buying an iphone?

I heard that to buy an iphone you need a contract? Is that true? and what is the meaning of having a contract when buying an iphone? and can one buy an iPhone without a contract?

No you don't need a contract.
A contract is with a mobile network provider to give you monthly calls, text and data.
Yes, you can buy an iPhone without a contract, but without some service (contract or pre-pay) from a mobile network provider, you'll only be able to use it on WiFi, and not make calls, send SMS, or use 3G/4G data away from WiFi.

  • Hello can i buy the iphone withot a plan

hi can  i buy an iphone without paying monthly?

You can get an iPhone unlocked without a contract, but they are a lot more expensive (16GB iPhone 4s is 649 out of contract).  However, you will have to pay monthly if you want to take advantage of 3G cellular data.
If you want the functionalilty of the iphone without the 3G data, I would suggest looking at the iPod Touch.

  • Iphone 5 without contract

When to go on sale iphone 5 without a contract without reference to the operator?

Nobody know this but Apple, so you'll just have to wait and keep checking.  Nobody here knows or can tell you this, only Apple themselves.
