Buying the right video camera

Hello everyone,
I work for a community centre in Montréal and we are looking for a video camera that would be fully compatible with our new iMac and iMovie.
We are basically filming kids participating in activities and then editing the footage.
From what I have been reading so far, it seems a camera which records images on a tape would be the best. We have a small JVC camera which records images on a hard drive and importing the images in iMovie is a bit complicated...
Would you have a suggestion for a small video camera ?
Thank you !
And Happy day !
Mathieu

Welcome to discussions, Bembrops
iMovie runs on QuickTime. QuickTime 'sees'the timecode on your video. When it stops, QuickTime stops.
So, this sounds like a timecode prolem that is happening when you import.
Perhaps simply geting rid of the imovie perference files will help.
Close Imovie.
Then locate a file named com.apple.imovie.plist and get rid of it. Then empty the trash, run a permissions repair with disk utility and restart. That should do it. The files you need to delete are found in:
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist
Also, Canon cameras don't always play nice with imovie. Especially if the camera is daisy-chained thru another firewire device. Having said this, I think I'd try a shorter Firewire cable.
(Even though your exact model isn't listed-it may still aply to you)

  • I need help on finding the right video camera

I am a high school student and I make short films. I use final cut express. I'm getting ready to do a short film for a film festival. I really want a new video camera but i don't know what to get. The price range is under 2000. If anyone knows what would be the best i would really appreciate the input.
    Thanks

At the moment i have been using a Sony GC1 for small stuff but other videos i use a panasonic, im not sure of the name i don't have it with me.
The quality is really bad on the sony mainly because its just a net sharing cam and the panasonic is not mine so i dont have full access.
I really want something with good quality, 24p, can work with my macbook, just an overall good camera that will endure a lot of use.

Is buying a song on iTunes buying the rights to use it in a video

No, absolutely not. You are buying only the rights for personal use only. If you want to use a track in a video, you need to 1) get the track from a CD since the iTunes Store disallows any sort of commercial use and 2) obtain a license from the content owner to use the track in a video. There are usually clearing houses for that purpose that handle licensing for the major record labels.

    ..HEY GUYS..
I'm thinking to buy a video camera for using with IMOVE-08 very soon..but I was wondering which one could be the best .. there are so many brands out there that i can not chose one..!!
Does anybody know which one could be the best VIDEO CAMERA..? I don't care about money and I'm looking for something good that I don't want to change for a long time..!!
If you have any ideas please let me know...

I did a lot of research on the issue, which you can read about here:
    http://www.kbeat.com/Site/Blog/Entries/2007/9/10New_camcorder%2C_HD_atlast!.html
After much consideration, I went with the Canon HV20, and I've been very happy with the results. I use it on a recent MacBook Pro, and have not had a single issue. You can read a great comparison article featuring the Panasonic Steve Jobs mentioned, the Canon, the JVC, and a Sony:
    http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/The-Great-HD-Shoot-Out---Canon-HV20-Sony-HD R-HC7-Panasonic-HDC-SD1-JVC-GZ-HD7.htm
Good luck. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the cameras they reviewed, but the Canon has the best image, which was my number one priority.

Try resetting your phone by holding down the home and off button until the apple symbol comes up. Then if still doing, restore your phone in itunes from your backup.

  • My transitions only apply's to the right video

    Hi there,
I have a problem with my video transitions.
When I try to add a transition to both video's only the right video is getting the transition.
    See the video please.
    Hope somebody can help me.
    Thanks!
    Bertus

If one of the clips is not trimmed you cannot place the transition centre at cut, it will set itsself start/end of cut.
In your case you need to trim the right clip.
See this doc: it's all about handles.

  • Buying MP3 Player & Video Camera. Help please? :)

Hello, I am preparing to buy an MP3 player and a video camera. I was thinking of picking up an iPod Nano since it seems to have a little bit of everything. However, I have also read that the Nano's camera is awkward to use because of where its lense is actually located. I have limited use of my right hand, so anything that is going to make something more difficult then it already is may not be such a great idea. Anyone use / used the Nano's camera? Is it a decent starting point for someone who has never used any type of video camera before? If the iPod Nano is not an appropriate option for me then I need to choose a different MP3 player, as well as a different means for taking video footage. Since this is the MP3 Player forum, I will focus on (primarily) getting advice about MP3 Players here. What do I want an MP3 player for? -- Going on walks -- Listening to while in the car (I do not drive) -- Listening to while on trips If I do not go with a Nano, I am not sure whether I would want an MP3 player that deals with video (playing it; not recording it) or not. I am kinda leaning both for it and against it. PROS: -- Being able to take short videos with me, either others or ones that I have made to show family / friends -- If I decide to get something with video that is not the Nano then screen size & quality become viable considerations due to somewhat lacking vision. -- If I got something that did video I would likely use it moreso for short clips and anime / cartoons then I would for movies (this has a lot to do with the above-stated vision issues) CONS: --- Getting something that will do video and be worth having is expensive -- Taking a walk with something that does video is likely not the brightest of ideas -- I do not travel a lot and my PC monitor is a 37" LCD HDTV. -- The burnt orange Nano looks cool. (Not practical, but at least its honest.) At any rate, any advice or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks for your time.

  • Am I buying the right USB hub

I want to connect a digital camera to usb port. The 3 ports on the back of computer are being used for printer/keyboard/mouse. (I am not using a Mac keyboard so don't have the 2 extra ports). I am not a techie, not even close. After reading about ports/hubs - am I going in the right direction? Or totally off base?
I should purchase a 2 to 4-port hub - self-powered is best - and I'd like to get a mini if they also work with non-laptop. - supports 2.0 and 1.1 devices, full speed and low speed devices. Prices vary so much. Are the hubs priced for around $25 okay?
One item says it supports plug and play over-current detection and protection. Don't know what this means.
    Thank you for help. Joan

I don't know much about the price ranges of hubs, and how much bang you get for your buck, but I do know that over-current detection and protection is a good thing as if you are connecting hard drives and such to your computer through the hub, they will be protected from any dangerous power spikes.

  • Zoom app for the iphone video cam?

would it be possible to add zoom to the video cam using a 3rd party application?

There are apps in the AppStore that do this for still pictures, but its a digital zoom meaning all it does it zoom/crop the image.
The only way to zoom the video is to move closer to the subject.
A proper zoom is a hardware feature, not software.

  • Where's the HD video camera app on 4s?

    What do you mean?
There are not two different cameras/apps.

I don't think N8 supports as its got less processor speed then 1GHZ , and even if it was made then u can experence a poor video quality and hangups.
The processor speed shouldn't matter that much for allowing video calls while doing Skype calls. It might have to do with the amount of RAM in the device, but even that is doubtable.
Poor video quality: indeed the front camera is of poor quality.
