Buying Used iPhone 4? Warranty?

I'm going to buy a used iPhone 4 off craigslist. The person lost the sales receipt but the serial number tells us that the limited warranty lasts till August 18, 2011. We called Apple and they told us that warranty still works even without the sales receipt as long as the serial number checks out. They said that I have to change the registration to my name, but I am not sure how to do that. Can anyone help me out?
TLDR:
How do you change the serial number registration on an iPhone 4 to another name, phone number, location, etc.

You can go to the genius bar and have them do that for you. I had previously owned iphone 3GS and after getting the iphone 4, I gave my sister my iphone 3GS. When taking to the iphone 3G S to the genius bar for some problem. While at it, they also have removed my name from the iphone 3G S that I have owned and have registered under my sister's name. This was done before the replacement because she had to go twice. First time, she was told to restore the phone to see if that fixes it, but did not so she had to make another trip and get it replaced.

  • Buying used iphone

Forgive me for my naivity...but it's hard to find an exact answer on the net about this. My situation is that I really want to switch from my blackberry to an iPhone as I own a MBP and would like to stay purely Apple. The problem is that I currently teach in Cuba (am on holiday now in Canada) where I need to use an unlocked phone because there is no big companies there like AT&T, Rogers, etc. I just use pay-as-you-go there. Is it even possible to use an unlocked iPhone without a data plan? Is it possible to have an iPhone where you simply put in a new SIM card depending on where in the world you are and pay as you go? I don't really care about using the phone to surf the internet etc., I can do without that, I just want to use it as a phone, and use calender, etc. It would be nice to be all Apple, and there are some things about my blackberry which I don't really like. It's time for a switch. I know you can buy used iPhones online which are unlocked (I searched for this), but I want to know if I went this way, would I still be able to do software updates when I sync my phone, etc. from Apple..ie: would Apple be 'ok' with me owning one of these or is it 'frowned upon'? Does this make sense what I want? I hope so..any help appreciated!
    Thanks

I didn't say it was impossible to do so, but if you purchase an officially unlocked iPhone in a country where such an iPhone is sold, you sure can't get any support for the iPhone while in Cuba - from your pay-as-you-go provider in Cuba, and wouldn't get any support from Rogers in Canada for such an iPhone while you are in Canada since the iPhone is sold in Canada as carrier locked with Rogers only.
And I didn't say the warranty is void when moving to another country with a carrier locked iPhone. I said the warranty is honored in the country where the iPhone is sold as new only - big difference between this and voiding the warranty. Hacking an iPhone for any reason does void the warranty.

There is not a thing you can do except get the Apple ID and password of the previous owner...that iPhone is in Activation Lock mode and cannot be unlocked any other way.  The Activation Lock is an anti-theft protection that cannot be bypassed.  You very well may have a stolen iPhone so try contacting the who you bought it from and get your money back.

  • Do apple stores buy used iphones?

hi i wanted to know if apple or some store buy used iphones for money, because i have an iphone 4 and i want to sell if possible to buy the new iphone, thanks.

    No.

  • Help! Want to buy used iPhone but it's jailbroken.

I am cautious to buy an Iphone 4S used because the guy jailbroke it.  I want to undo the jailbreak as soon as I get it, but will this reverse any and all problems that may have come along with the jailbreaking in the first place?  I want to be sure I can before I buy it tomorrow.

Jailbreaking causes permanent damage to the phone, and if you buy it then it won't have any warranty because it was jailbroken. Do NOT buy this one, and let the guy know why. It should be very easy to find one for sale that is not jailbroken.

  • Buying used iphone and unlocking, do I need to buy Tmobile sim?

I'm wondering how this all works. (I use Tmobile as my service btw). If I'm buying a used iphone 3gs and want to activate it on Tmobile, what do I need to look out for? Does it matter what OS it is currently on? From articles I've read in the past it seemed there were certain OSes that didn't allow you to unlock the iphone. And I'm not sure what iphones can't be unlocked altogether. But, I'm wondering if I buy it, do I have to go purchase a sim card from Tmobile for it? Apparently this 3gs I'm looking at is OS 5.01, but I will have to unlock it or pay to have this unlocked in order to use it on my Tmobile service. Just wanted to make sure I follow the correct steps to get an iphone working on Tmobile.

" Seems like I'd be paying much more for an officially unlocked iphone. "
Becasue it is a legit iphone.  Hacked iphones get no support at all from Apple or this forum.  The warranty is void and many people have had their iphones rendered useless by hacking.
"I thought most services that offer hacked unlocking services have gotten the math down on how to do it safely and successfully. "
Not true at all.  This is a big risk.
" What is the danger from going this route? "

" Seems like most people have gone this route, no?"
    No.
"Even if I buy an unlocked iphone, I'm guessing I will still have to spend extra money to buy a sim card for it, correct?"
You would have to ask the carrier.  I have never paid for a SIM card.

  • Buying used iPhone 2g - screenshot & activation questions

    All,
I'm considering buying an iPhone 2g and I had a few questions:
    1) Will the iPhone 2g take screenshots with home-power like new iPhones?
    2) If I reactivate with AT&T, will they require me to have a contract, or would I be able to go month to month? Will they supply a compatible SIM card if the seller doesn't?
    3) Is there a quick way to test how good the battery is (like while the seller is still around, so I can back out if it'll only hold a charge for 15 minutes)?
Any help is appreciated, and any other buying advice is appreciated.
    -->Adam

I read that as well, and will probably shut off the wireless.
But, the ebay vendors I see (the big ones who sell a lot with good ratings), all as policy remove the SIM card. I was probably going to go with NextWorth, as I bought an iPod Classic from them and it was great. I 2g 8GB iPhone is about $115 from these guys.
None of the local Craigslist guys are are responding to me, it seems that these things sell fast and the sellers expect me to text. I don't have a phone that texts reasonably, so I send e-mail or call.
As for the Autism uses, there seem to be a LOT of apps that are useful for Autism. At first, I'm just going to use it with my wireless printer and Teach with Cards Lite (app) to print flash cards on the fly. Then, I'll try to get the kid (who can't talk) to pick the card for what he wants. Later, after I trust him to hold the device, I can do other stuff. But there are (expensive) apps so mute people can 'talk' by pressing icons on the iPhone, if we can teach him how to use them.

  • Buying used iPhone 4s what to watch for?

I'm going to purchase a used iPhone 4s from a stranger. What do I need to watch out for?

Another poster, about 3 weeks ago, reported that his new iPhone purchased from a strneger was disabled by ATT as "stolen".  This odd individual insisted right up until he stopped responding in his own post that the seller had reported it stolen to make an insurance claim and *SURELY* the seller had not himself stolen it.  In the fiasco, he put the sim card of the stolen phone phone into his old phone and that one got bricked/locked because of the sim-card relation.
Seems not all sellers are offering legit/legal product.
One way to weed out the bad ones is to make a condition of sale be that the exchange is done at an Apple store to allow Genius Bar to verify stolen/no and good condition.  Legitimate selllers will not balk at that inconvenience of verification before they get your money.

  • Buying used iPhone 4s today (too cheap)?

I've been looking for a while for a 4s as my current phone is dying. I've been really attracted to this one deal: 32gb black 4s, GSM model, light scratches and small cracks for $150. I checked the serial number he sent me, all sounded alright, phone owned for 1 yr 4 mo, the cracks and scratches are bearable, no water damage, no problems with camera, not jailbroken, battery lasts a day with light usage, no WiFi problems... These are all information he emailed to me after I asked him. Then he said he would sell it to me for $130 since I was so easy to deal with online.
Do you think it's a scam? What are some things I should watch out for? I was thinking about bringing a computer, a USB cord, and earphones, to check out the functions of the phone. Do you think I could make the exchange at an AT&T or Apple store and have the employees help us out?

I have heard stories that Apple will not even look at an iPhone purchased
in another country at any price since they will not be able to replace with an
identical iPhone which is their practice ( carrier locked etc)
