Buying used iphone and unlocking, do I need to buy Tmobile sim?
I'm wondering how this all works. (I use Tmobile as my service btw). If I'm buying a used iphone 3gs and want to activate it on Tmobile, what do I need to look out for? Does it matter what OS it is currently on? From articles I've read in the past it seemed there were certain OSes that didn't allow you to unlock the iphone. And I'm not sure what iphones can't be unlocked altogether. But, I'm wondering if I buy it, do I have to go purchase a sim card from Tmobile for it? Apparently this 3gs I'm looking at is OS 5.01, but I will have to unlock it or pay to have this unlocked in order to use it on my Tmobile service. Just wanted to make sure I follow the correct steps to get an iphone working on Tmobile.

Becasue it is a legit iphone. Hacked iphones get no support at all from Apple or this forum. The warranty is void and many people have had their iphones rendered useless by hacking.

You would have to ask the carrier. I have never paid for a SIM card.

No, there isn't a change - compatible apps are shown in the Purchased tab in the App Store app on your iPhone. If you bought the HD version of the app then that only works on the iPad, if you want the version for the iPhone then that is a separate app and is therefore a separate purchase.

Sorry, but I disagree. It is not the OEM's responsibility to check nor confirm any such thing. it is up to the seller and the buyer, in a private party personal transaction, to ensure that both are satisfied with the terms and conditions of the sale and the item.
You buy a used personal item as is from someone, and it is just that, as is. The responsibility is solely on the two parties making the exchange to ensure that both have gotten what they wanted out of the deal.
No company is going to get involved in any such private party sales or exchanges of items - in the USA at least, it would be a legal minefield for them, if nothing else. Private/personal property sales are just that, private and personal. -

There is not a thing you can do except get the Apple ID and password of the previous owner...that iPhone is in Activation Lock mode and cannot be unlocked any other way. The Activation Lock is an anti-theft protection that cannot be bypassed. You very well may have a stolen iPhone so try contacting the who you bought it from and get your money back.

Unlocked means unlocked, so yes.
But, support and namely warranty coverage may not be available for you in Norway or anywhere but in the US with any iPhone purchased in the US, even an unlocked iPhone purchased in the US. -
Is it possible to buy an iPhone 4s unlocked in the US, and then use it normally and completely into France with Freemobile (which provides micro-SIM) ?

You would need to return to U.K. for warranty service. The iPhone warranty is not international.

Thank You !Well mate, this is a bit complicated here in North America (being from Europe myself): in the USA you can as of now only purchase phones locked to the three major carriers and they only support the "local" LTE bands. In Canada (where I live) on the other hand, you can purchase unlocked iPhones (if available!) from any Apple Store. However they also only support the North American LTE frequencies, while in Europe they are slightly different. This is the reason, why Apple sells three different iPhone 5: http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2012/09/iphone5-lte-model/.
So to prevent hassle, I would strongly recommend to purchase the iPhone 5 in Europe.
