Buying Zen Microphoto was a mistake

Because I can't get it to work. I have XP with Service Pack 2, tried pretty much every advice and help that's been here and in support pages, but still. I cannot get it recognized by XP. I cannot get XP to update drivers, tampering with regedit and usb didn't do much good, and I have Media Player . So I'm asking some other ways to get this thing working, or at least someone saying it's hopeless, so I wouldn't have to struggle with impossible.

For all those having problems with your zen microphoto suddenly deciding to stop connecting after having connected perfectly for weeks...then suddenly to come up with some **BLEEP** like this: Windows User-Mode Driver Framework has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
You need an MTP driver. Search or find one at:

"Zen Microphoto screen have 262k of colours and ipod nano have 65k"
    ok
"The headphone jack problem which affected zen micro did not affect zen microphoto"
This has to do with Ipod Nano how? Check your subject line.
"the sound sounds good too buy too make it sound good you must change the headphone "
Errr.... In order to make anything sound good, you need better headphones! All mp3 players come with cheap headphones......
"It is cheaper then Ipod nano for the same size"
They cost the same and the nano is smaller. In fact, if you count the $99 2 gig, the Nano costs less.
Please, this is a discussion forum about Creative, don't bring Ipod bashing into it. If you really want to bring up the better qualities of the Micro Photo, do it right, like this:
. Better sound, the Nano seriously sounds like crap.
    2. Better screen, somewhat...
    3. Bigger storage space.
    4. $249 for twice as much space.
Now discuss. Just do it in a fair way and not one that bashes everyone and everything... :X

  • Zen MicroPhoto Died On Me Today

Today my Pink Zen MicroPhoto died on me. Since the first weeks I got this player I noticed tons of glitches. It would freeze when it would try to "Rebuild the Library" and when it finally managed to "rebuild" , it would erase my entire music library. It got quite annoying. It would also play snippets of other songs while playing a track. It wouldn't be detected when I tried to update the Firmware. Today, it finally decided not to start, and all I get is a "Hardware Problem" message. I don't have any warranties, so I don't know if there's no hope. It was actually a gift. I don't have a receipt or anything at all. I have to pay for Customer Support apparently, so I just decided to e-mail the issue. How's Creative's customer support? I've heard it's less than stellar. I'm very disappointed. I don't know if I just got a defecti've player, or if all Zen MicroPhoto players have these glitches (if they do, I think they should all be recalled.)
Anybody ever been in my same situation? If yes, what did you do? Did you get any help from Creative? How much did you have to pay to get it fixed? Any input would be great. Thanks.

Thanks. That's the first thing I did and it actually did not cost me a dime. You do have to pay for Customer Support over the phone, though. I'm very bummed out, actually. My Zen MicroPhoto was my only source of entertainment at work, and I really cannot afford another MP3 player.

  • Is Zen Microphoto 8GB compatible with Windows Vis

    Hello,
My Zen microphoto was working fine until yesterday. I got a firmware error msg so I downloaded the latest firmware for microphoto (.3.0) and uploaded it using my bf's laptop (he's still got XP and media player 0). It uploaded successfully, but I'm still getting that error msg. Am I missing something?
I may have a defecti've unit and I have a warranty on it that allows me to replace it for another one, but I'm just like to know if this is a compatibility issue vs. a bum player issue before I do so.
    Thanks for the help!
    Callie

Anyone else having problems with Zen Microphoto and Vista? Would appreciate some help or advice whether or not Microphoto and Vista are compatable.
    Thank you.

  • Creative Zen Microphoto half-instal

Hi, I have a zen microphoto and I was installing the software + drivers + stuff onto my computer and there was a power cut halfway through installing, now there is a creative folder in Program Files (presumably only half full) but no listing on the Add/Remove software tool and when I try to reinstall, it doesn't launch the installer and instead just says Creative Zen MicroPhoto was successfully installed, even though it wasn't.

same problem here, creative logo stays until all the juice is drained

  • Zen microphoto and recharcing batter

    hi,
I want to buy zen microphoto.
I'd know if it's possible to use the mp3 player while the battery is under charge (using the USB charge adapter AC/DC).
    thanks
    have a nice day ^_^

No you can't, the only thing happens when you plug the player to a USB wire is that the screen changes and a lightning sign with a battery in background appears .. kind of a screen saver ..
    but no sounds goes out.
Good point is that the battery can stands for really long, almost a 3 days without stopping player .. so no chance to miss any music, you just have to think of plugging it while you sleep !!!
Cheer up man that would be a good choice !!

  • Zen Microphoto: connection probl

My new Zen Microphoto was connecting to my winXP SP2 machine just fine (no drivers needed) until today, when i decided I would install creative mediasource (newest version from the website). As soon as the install started up, it told me my player wasn't detected, and then since then, I haven't been able to get either of my computers to recognize the player. I'm now thinking: this is a player problem, right? So I formatted. No go. Then i hit "reload firmware" from the recovery screen and it says something like reload firmware using usb. My computer still says it's an unknown USB device. What am I supposed to do now?

Ouch. Reload firmware was a bad thing to choose as it actually deletes the firmware on the player (Creative REALLY need to rename this option).
Now you need to find a firmware for the player, and make sure it's detected by XP properly to reload. You'll need to use reload OS again to prepare the player.
If you can't find a firmware in the download section, which is entirely possible as the player is very new, you'll need to contact Creative support to get one.

  • How do I convert Itunes purchases to my ZEN MicroPhoto??

Okay, I had an Ipod mini and I went through three of them in the warranty time. I was sorely dissappointed with it, but I got a Creative Labs ZEN microphoto for Christmas and I love it. The only problem is that I have all this music that I downloaded from Itunes and I would love to be able to listen to it on my ZEN. I would still like to keep downloading from Itunes because it's the easiest and most legal downloading site that I have found. I know there are converters online, but I can't ever tell if it's legal or it will work. Does Apple have anything (hopefully free) that converts Itunes for my new ZEN???

Are you saying that iTunes downloads are only compatible with iPod's? That in order to play an iTunes download on anything but an iPod involves either illegal conversion or first burning it to a CD? I, too, just received a Zen Vision M and nowhere in the download, signup or anything else process did I see any mention of the fact that iTunes is not compatible with other software/hardward. Yes, the CD conversion trick works but for the aggrevation and lost time it's cheaper to drive to the store and buy the real thing.

  • Just got an 8 gig Zen MicroPhoto and love it! Just some suggestions tho

Hi everyone, my friend was considering a Zen Vision M and an Ipod video. I kinda suggested the Zen so he got it and absolutely loves it.
After seeing how nice the Zen Vision M is, I jumped on this MicroPhoto when I saw a sale and it is awesome!
The Zen MicroPhoto is a really good device, but just simple firmware stuff could make it a great one.
.) Ability to view pictures + listen to music
2.) Ability to view movies and video (the Muvo has smaller capacity and a screen with less colors and it can? Yet we are buying a nicer mp3 player than the Muvo but can't do video? The Sansa is small as hell and it can. It has the screen, hardware wise it should be able to do it, and if this is added through a firmware update, it won't be on the packaging and thus will not hurt sales of your other products.
I hate it when an awesome product is created and is capable of something and the manufacturer slashes that ability from it intentionally.
Another good example is the Gen III Ford Taurus SHO, its 3.4 liter Yamaha V8 was capable of revving well over 7500RPM and producing more than 30hp. Ford however, even though they had this jewel of an engine, intentionally cut its ability down to 235hp or else they feared it would be faster than their Mustang GT. What a shame, I hate to see that Creative is doing the same with the MicroPhoto.
3.) Ability to record FM with the latest firmware (If this is a RIAA issue, then please provide two firmwares and two download links, one that says "United States Users" and one that says "Non-US users"
4.) Ability to control different aspects of the glowing blue LEDs. They are obviously firmware controlled and can have brightness adjusted since they glow in and out when you have it plugged into the USB cable.
5.) Make it show up on your computer as a removable disk. On all my other MP3 players, it showed up just like a flash dri've and you could drag and drop whatever you wanted onto it, and it would just play whatever files on there it could play. Here, it won't let me drag and drop anything that is copy protected or is a different file type.
I know you can set aside 4 gigs of that for this purpose, but with the size of the files and videos I transfer, it would be nice if I could use all 8 gigs. Perhaps an option to just let the whole thing show up as a removable flash dri've?
*ok... I just tried it and that seems to be working on this computer that is Windows XP SP2 with WMP, but on the school computer that was XP SP2 with WMP0, it would not allow me to do this.

I think you will find that the reason the MicroPhoto is on sale is that it is now a legacy player (it was released before anybody could play video). I doubt very much that any further improvements will be coming....
EQ does have an effect... Maybe you earphones are not working well?

  • My PC doesn't 'react' when I connect my Zen Microphoto

    Hello,
I'm Michel van Gelder and I have a problem with my Zen Microphoto. I am going to try to explain my problem in proper english, but english isn't my main language, so please forgive me if i make terrible mistakes or something.
    My problem is:
If I connect my Zen to my PC it says something like, what do you like to do, but when i click on an option it says: Media Device isn't connected. And also when I connect it, a symbol appears in the right corner, next to all the others, but when I try to do something with it's(with right mouse button or something) it disappears. The result is that, with everything i try, the PC says that my mp3 isn't connected. While 've installed all the software properly etc.
I have this MP3 for 2 years now, and I've never had this problem. Until 2 weeks ago, when we had to reinstall our computer. So my question actually was: Is there something wrong with my Zen or with my PC. And, what can I do about it's
I hope someone knows the answers to my questions. Thank you very much
    Michel van Gelder

  • Zen Microphoto: Screen dy

I have a Zen microphoto and just in the last two days I have noticed a gradual blackening of my screen. It started with the left side being darker than the right - rather like the left side had "sunglasses" on or something and now the entire screen is so dark it can barekly be read. The player is playing fine, but I am almost unable to see anything on the screen. My contrast is up at 00% and I can barely read this unit. This is a problem for me as I can't select items and as I listen to a lot of books on MP3, I need the ability to see this so I can bookmark my books and not lose my place. I have had over a year of trouble-free play on this unit and simply love it. Has anyone heard of this problem before?ThanksCarrie

I had the same problem. It wasn't dropped or handled wrong and without warning, one day the screen gets darker and darker and now I can't see anything. It still plays, still charges and the keypad still lights up. I was considering using one of the zen repair services like cherryfusion.com or zenrepair.com but the screen replacement alone would be around $60. With tax, shipping, etc factored in, I'm not sure it would be worth it. Perhaps going to eBay and buying a defecti've model with a good screen and replacing mine? Hopefully there's an easier fix.

  • Zen Microphoto Recognition Problem..

I looked around for almost two weeks before finally deciding the Mphoto was the combination that best suited me. Yesterday was the big installation day. I bought a power adapter and charged it up. In the mean time, I installed the software. The last thing I did before going to bed last night was attach it to my year old Dell labtop via the USB. No detect. Nothing in the device manager. Nothing no where. This morning I woke up, reinstalled all the software with everything else secured (virus, network, etc). Reset the player. Nothing. I went through all the Knowledge Base suggestions. Nothing. Tried everything again with our desktop. Same results. Then I simply said to myself, I don't have time for this BS and took the player back. Thanks for the fun Creative.

Update on my fun. I decided to take one last crack. I restarted the PC, turned off everything running, virus, firewall, printer monitors, network help, anything adobe, quicktime, you name it. I then re-downloaded the two Microsoft patches mentioned in the FAQ section and reran them. I next crossed my fingers and inserted the ZEN program, lo & behold, Mongo perform miracle. Everything loaded and I've been slamming pictures and CDs at it constantly. Only thing that changed is that I did return the Microphoto and replaced with a Sleek Photo for about the same money. The Microphoto was cutesy; the sleek feels great. Now, all I need is (a) a good case and (b) a power adapter that doesn't need the usb cable. You'd think that Creative would market a dummy connector with only power. I'd buy it. Anyway the story has a happy ending for now. The Sleek is like the Micro but beefier; feels better. I'll stop while I'm ahead.Message Edited by tloewenberg on 08-30-2006 07:00 AMMessage Edited by tloewenberg on 08-30-2006 07:0 AM

  • Zen MicroPhoto Freezes

I have a Zen MicroPhoto and about two days ago the battery died. As normal, I would connect it to my PC via USB and charge it. I charged it overnight, and woke up to listen to it. I turned it on, and for some reason it froze and on the screen was the word "Creative", I left it there for a couple of minutes but it just stayed there. So, whenever my player freezes, I simply remove the battery and put it back in. 99% of the times it works, but for some reason it didn't. I NEVER dropped my player, infact it's not damaged. I tried running the recovery mode, I tried clean up, left it on overnight, woke up and my player was off. Thinking it was done and up and running, I turn on my player and the same thing happened; "Creative" on the screen and nothing works. Again, I run the recovery mode, and this time I select the reload Firmware (or something like that) left it overnight once more, woke up and still failed to start up. So I run recovery mode ONCE MORE, and tried Format all, knowing that it will delete all my filed (I have all my music on my PC anyway), I go ahead and do it. Once more, I left it overnight (with the PC on of course) and woke up to no prevail... So I go to Creative website, and download the firmware updater, and now my PC doesn't detect connection via USB... So, I download these three apps I found on the Knowledge Base and still doesn't work... Anyone with any solutions please, please, PLEASE help me out because life without my MP3 player is miserable, very, very horrible and boring... Also the only time that it actually detects the player is when the battery life is low and that message "Low Battery" appears on the LCD screen. I then connect the USB and it detects it for a couple of seconds but I try to open the Firmware updater and it just freezes, when I remove the USB from the player, the updater opens... Maybe I should just buy an iPod because I'm getting tired of these ridiculous problems and I try to contact Creative via e-mail and by phone and they all say the same BULL that doesn't fix a thing. Thank you for your time!Message Edited by CJNoel on 06-7-2006 04:5 PM

Well there really isn't anything that you can do... I had the same issues with mine... I took it to the store and I got a new one and now I am having issues with that one as well so all that I can tell you is to either try again with another Creative or get a new one... Personally I would say get a new one that is what I am planing on doing this time.

I tried to change the album's name as the Zen Micro 5Gb but i can't! If I use the Creative MediaSource as a friend told me, it frooze and then I can't use it. How I have to do it's

Before buying a charger, be sure to test other USB ports on your computer [or on other computers, if one is handy].
Some computers do not provide full power all the USB ports.
