Buzzing in Background - way to lower?

I filmed a few people inside of a basketball gym the other day. They had just turned on the lights and they were making a buzzing noise while warming up. It wasn't that loud, but on tape it sounds VERY loud. Is there a way to lower that noise to salvage the interview?

Yep...that's the answer. Just a word of caution - be careful about over doing it because you could end up filtering out frequencies in your interviewee's voice and hence making that person sound a little weird/computerish. I do tons of conversions from product where the masters are 20-30 years old so I have to deal with crappy sound a lot. I find that I can usually filter it out to an acceptable level but not so that it's completely gone without hurting the integrity of the audio that I need to keep.

  • Earpiece voume way too low.............E71

    Hey all,
the earpiece volume on my E71 is WAY too low. How can i get this increased ?
    Thanks

during a call you can hit the volume button on your phone to increase volume... It's hard to know exactly how low it is for us others, but if youre volume is set to full and you cannot hear a got damned thing, and you've made sure the people who call you are speaking directly into the phone, and you don't have a ear damage, it might be a faulty earpiece.
I remember I had no troubles with my E71 when it came to earpiece volume even outside.
Has it always been like this? When did you buy your phone?

  • Is there a way to lower the volume on the themes with a soundtrack?

    Hi,
Is there a way to lower the volume on the themes with soundtracks? The volume of my video is lower than the soundtrack on the theme.
    Thank you

Which version of iDVD are you using? I see this is posted in the IDVD4 forum.
I have 6. Clicking the "Menu" button at the bottom of the window brings up a dialogue where you can adjust the Loop Duration and Menu Volume. Is that what you are looking for?

  • T420 Microphone volume way too low

    Hi,
I am having a problem with my ThinkPad's microphone. The problem occurs with the internal microphone as well as an external microphone. The volume is way too low. I need to have my mouth very close (almost against it) to the microphone in order to be able to record anything and therefore  to be able to see my microphone level shift at the recording devices section of Windows. Because of this using a mic is pretty much impossible. The sound level recorded is way too low.
I have tried a lot of things and settings: I have deleted the SoundMax drivers to try the drivers that Windows installs by default, and they don't work either. I have tried the put the microphone boost level to the highest settings possible and it certainly helps, but it is still almost just as bad, plus the noise added when boosting the level is unacceptable. I have also checked if the microphone sound recorded isn't being played through the speakers and it isn't. I also disabled any type of post signal processing I came across, but this also didn't help.
As a last resort I completely reinstalled Windows on my system and installed the SoundMax drivers again, but this didn't work either.
    Important thing:
I just tried a Ubuntu live CD and the microphone worked fine. I could just sit away from it and talk to it and it would record my voice pretty good. So I guess the whole problem is pretty much software related.
    Some side info:
As external mic I was using a headset that comes with almost any type of smartphone nowadays, a headset which has a small (and usually clip-on) microphone and a four pole jack-plug (which the T420 only accepts unfortunately).
OS: Windows 7 64 bit Professional
I really, really hope someone is able to help me with my problem. I love my T420, but this is just unacceptable and very annoying.

Try disabling all of the Conexant services in Services.
Also go into Sound, Recording, Internal Microphone, Levels tab.
Set volume to 100, and boost to +10. This is what works optimally for my W520 on TeamSpeak.

  • Change background color of lower thirds

I'd like to have a lower thirds title with a slightly dark, say brown or gray, background behind it, since the still behind is busy and  will interfere visually with the text. I only see black as the 'flag' background in iMovie 11. Is there a way to change this (I see I can change font colors easily).
    Thanks, Mary

Thanks...I do see those. I gather it's not possible to adjust the transparency of the background (i.e. to make a black more or less 'see through' or change from black or white to a different hue.  I'll check out "soft bar." That might do it.
I'm posting a link to a video that has something I really like -- at 3:02 to 3:06 in this video by Bob Krist on Vimeo
http://www.vimeo.com/25645879. There's even a little flag blowing at the right. (I don't need that, however)
On a contrasty background -- where you don't want a big heavy black or white bar--this is cool. Maybe Final Cut has something for it?

  • OK, what is the best way to lower specific frequencies in edit view

Listen guys, yes I do happen to know about "frequencies" and that you can't fully remove an instrument without effecting another in that same file that plays at the same time, this is pretty basic stuff.
However, partially removing frequencies is one of the main things AA3 is intended for: "editing" the sound is it's main function.
There must be some better answers out there about the best way of going about this in AA3.
Do people use the spectral analysis with the different colors representing different frequencies? I have no idea how to use this.
Do most people not get into this type of stuff?  I don't get it, seems like this is what the program was designed for (partially) so there must be more techniques out there.

As mentioned, using the Graphic EQ or Parametric EQs, are the most common tools to adjust the energy around specific frequencies.
The Graphic EQ provides between 10-30 bands and uses fixed values and widths.  (A slider for 1000 Hz will adjust the sound around 1000 Hz +/- a few hundred Hz in both directions.)
The Parametric EQ offers fewer bands, but allows for greater control over the frequencies being adjusted and the affect on surrounding frequencies.
The Notch Filter allows very tight, specific adjustments and is best used for removing artifacts like a 50/60Hz hum or high-pitched buzz.
Spectral Frequency View makes it easy to see the frequency patterns and find precise frequencies of problem audio.  The editing tools allow you to perform many of the same functions mentioned, but visually in a paint-style application.  The frequency range of the file is displayed vertically, with 1Hz at the bottom and 22KHz (for a 44.1K file) at the top.  Each column represents a particular slice of time and displays the energy level of each frequency band via brightness and color.  The brighter a particular blob is, the louder that frequency range is at that particular point in time.
There are other spectral views that give different viewpoints of your audio.  For example, the Spectral Pan Display shows a sort of birds-eye view of the audio's stereo-field.  Instruments that are panned further to the left, for example, will display brighter blobs on the left.  Using the selection tools, you can isolate these sounds from the rest of the stereo field and remove, copy, or add effects to the selection without affecting the rest of the audio.

  • Is there a way to lower video resolution?

I would like to be able to lower the video quality on iTunes U so that I can watch a lecture over a slower connection. It is kind of the same thing with YouTube. I never use the YouTube app because I can't change the video quality; I just use the web version where I can.  I mainly use my iPad to watch lectures but I would also like to be able lower quality for my iPhone and my MacBook Air.

Thanks for your response.  My speed was 5.8.  I get amazon via an LG smart blu ray player. No way I can go to ethernet without a lot of work and wiring which I'll skip since I can get the same stuff on the LG network.
Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "fixed content". What is the difference between that and buying or renting video from another source? I only have this issue with iTunes content.  And I can watch this same content on my computer which is on the same wifi. My only problem is apple tv and iTunes.
And although they tell you to lower your resolution I don't think the movie was available in any format except HD.
I guess my set up is not compatible with iTunes. Except that I have used it successfully in the past.  Sometimes the purchased or rented video comes up right away other times it takes 30-45 minutes. But this time it was over 4 hours.
    Thanks again.

  • Background volume too low even when turned up to 200%

I'm just making my first film with iMovie '08. I can't seem to get the volume of an audio clip to play louder. I purchased a specific song on iTunes. I then brought it into my movie as background music. I've turned up the volume to 200% and reduced all of the audio clips to 15%. This is driving me crazy! Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? The background audio is just too low and I can't seem to increase it.
    Thanks for your help.

When you play music from iTunes can you play it at full volulme? If so, it is not the MBP it is either something to do with the MP4 player (what are you using for that) or the conversion.

  • Palm Pre Sound System WAY TOO LOW

Omg it worked perfectly a couple of hours ago and now is really low whenver im throwin a task or window away the little sound it makes can barelly be heard
I checked on sounds & ringtones and the volume is all the way up
what can be wrong with it?
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

I have an iPhone 5 and I noticed this too when I installed the update to iOS 7. I miss all my calls now! Hopefully they fix this sooner than later... Just ***** we have to wait for a huge update instead of sending us a fix for just the volume RIGHT NOW!

  • E72 phone conversation speaker way too low at max ...

    Hi,
I checked three E72 units. In all three, the speaker, when at full volume, is way too quiet. This applies to phone conversations put on speaker or off speaker (unit next to ear). In comparison, my previous phone (Nokia 6131) doesn't exhibit this major fault.
I checked with the local distributor, Eurocom Israel, and they experimented a bit and eventually confirmed my findings.
Is there a technical solution to this issue?  It really is a shame for an otherwise decent phone...
    Thanks,

    Hi patroni73
I too have noticed that ever since my last upgrade to 7.0.4 on my iPhone4s I am having the same trouble of increasing speaker volume to High.  Although all of the tools (my volume bars on locked screen, side + bar, General Settings volume) are all the way up  to max with my side switch to ON my ringtones and sounds are all very low.  It feels like this latest upgrade has forgotten the speaker system controls and took care of whatever else the problem was.
Before the ios 7.0.4 upgrade, my iPhone 4s speaker was high enough and working just fine.  Please help!!!

  • 3000 530G Speaker level is way too low

I just got my Lenevo last week. When I play a dvd and have the sound all the way up it is just loud enough to hear if there is not backround noise.  If you put in earphones u have to turn it down.  I have checked all the levels and they are on high.  Not sure what the issue is?

Did you find out any solution about the speaker volume being low?
I'm currently having the same problem.
    Thanks in advance

  • HomeFusion 4G/LTE data caps way too low!!! Please raise them!!

I've had HomeFusion 4G/LTE since January 5th and I absolutely love the speed and low latency over satellite. There's just one big problem that I'm really disturbed about and that's the extremely low data cap it has. I'm paying $135 a month for the 30GB package and I've already hit 25GB in just over 2 weeks. I've watched no movies other than what videos I watch on YouTube. I've downloaded no movies or software in ISO format. I have played WOW a few hours over the past couple of weeks but that uses very little data.
This HomeFusion is being used by a family household and I can tell you that unless I just tell everyone to just not use the internet, there's no way 30GB is going to be enough data. Supposedly for the first 2 months I'm on some kind of promotional period that actually gives me 45GB, but then it's suppose to drop down to the 30GB thereafter.
If VZW doesn't raise the caps to real world usage expectations, then I'm going to be spending $300 a month on this connection just to get the extra 15GB that's being offered during the promotional period. That's $10 per 1GB over your limit, which 15GB is $150, then added to the $135 already which will be $285 plus taxes.. That's outrageous for a fixed 4G/LTE connection to my house.
I'm out in the sticks and probably 1 of only a few that are using the tower for the 4G/LTE it offers. I seriously doubt I'm causing any congestion with how I use my connection.
Hopefully there are other HomeFusion customers that see the need for VZW to amp up the data caps to something more realistic at around 100GB.
Recently an article came out showing that the ISPs were using data caps to solely monetize data usage and it had nothing to do with congestion.
    http://www.techspot.com/news/51392-former-fcc-chair-isp-data-caps-are-about-monetization-not-network-congestion.html
Isn't $135 for a 4G/LTE connection at home already too much?? Come on VZW, please raise the data caps or better yet, eliminate them and just charge for the connection.

Man..spare me the `there's only so much bandwidth to go around' speech. I live out in a podunk town that is serviced by AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, along with all the other smaller carriers. There's maybe like a dozen people in my area that might even have HomeFusion and that's because they are crazy enough to shell out $60-$120 a month for a better internet experience than satellite.
Just because YOUR area has few people doesn't mean that what Verizon should base pricing on. Verizon has standardize pricing. So they have to price for ALL areas.
I just want more data than the 30GB,, because number 1, HomeFusion is marketed as a home residential service. It's not like there are thousands of smart phones like in a mid-sized city accessing it. It's a broadband product that is marketed for family use. 30GB is a joke to give a family, when whoever it is that runs the HomeFusion department knows that a family can easily eat up 100GB if everyone were to stream movies and play games. 100GB would be more than enough for the HomeFusion subscriber that has to pay $150 just for internet. LTE is delivering 40+Mbps where I'm located.. I would settle for 10Mbps for my needs.
LTE is not a replacement for REAL internet. That's just factual. So if yo want REAL internet you'll have to move where it is. Maybe that's not fair but that's the reality. Maybe in a couple of years you can get more than 30 GB.
If Verizon is so concerned about bandwidth consumption, then use QoS metrics to balance out the bandwidth to everyone connected to a specific tower if congestion is detected.. You act like if someone uses 100GB of data over a wireless connection it's eating up all the available bandwidth a tower might have.. Not really. Suppose that 100GB is being scheduled to download at late night when the network is generally idle??
Ok then everyone will get 500 kbps. How does that sound?
I've had both Exede and Hughesnet Gen4. Fast they are, but they pull the same crap that the wireless carriers are pulling.. Claiming that people who use too much data are congesting their networks.. That's a load of crap. What's congesting the network is having low bandwidth and having too many people eating up that bandwidth to download content.. If you have 50Mbps wireless that download takes a fraction of the time it would take someone with 3-5Mbps. They get what they want fast and the available bandwidth becomes free again for whoever else may need it.
Just like mobile they are bandwidth constrained. You can belive what you want. Not believing the truth doesn't make it not true. 2+2=4 no matter how much you want it to equal 5.
It's basically called control. The carriers want control of what you can do on their networks. It used to be subscribers just paid for the connection fee and they did what they wanted. But ever since carriers thought they could monetize data usage and there's no law for them to not do it, they do whatever they want, squeezing the customer for more and more money...
Even if what you said was 100% true there is nothing you can do about it. Coming here to complain certainly won't do anything. Your choice is to either pay or not to pay.
VZW has 115 million subscribers.. do the math. They make billions each month. They make more than enough money to put back into their network to increase capacity. So does AT&T. If either carrier doesn't want their wireless networks to become too congested, then start upgrading their wireline services to fiber/cable instead of claiming they are dumping wireline services and pushing people to wireless..
Actually they do invest in their networks. They spend billions each year. Verizon has 20 MHz total for LTE right now. 10 for uplink 10 for downlink. That has to be share with Homefusion and mobile data customers both residential and business. Spectrum is a finite resource. It will take time to acquire and deploy it. Try doing some research on how mobile technology works before question the validity of what I'm saying. I did the research you should too. My posts are based on FACTS not wishes or conspiracy theories..

  • IWeb site browser background way off

Hi, I have recently developed a website called VoiceFromHevin.com.  The site looks great on pretty much any computer browser.  However, on the iphone and ipad the browser background is completely off from where it should be.  If you go to the site on your ipad or iphone and go past the first page, you will see what I'm referring to.  The Welcome page looks just fine, it's after you enter into the rest of the site that things get crazy. Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!!

The player requires the QuickTime plugin. Launch it in Firefox and you'll see.
Both Flowplayer and JWLongtail will plsy in all browsers and on most devices...

There are online site builders that specialize in portable sites and you could see if one of those has a suitable design. You would need to put a fingertip sized button on your regular site in an appropriate place so that portable device users could switch over to it.
Wix are known for their flash sites but they now have a section for mobile sites...
    http://mobile.wix.com/
They use the same liquid style layout that I have been experimenting with. I'm trying to refine the design to make it suitable for all devices and browsers - with a little help from my friends at Rage Software!
There are quite a few ways of adapting sites for mobile devices from fairly simple to downright complicated. I'm trying to achieve a one size fits all with minimal code. The online outfits like Wix, Weebly etc product far too much code and their media players are not exactly state of the art.

  • "Easy" way to lower MEGA 180 CPU Temp

Let me start off by saying I haven't done this yet but I think it would work.  I built a Mega 180 based machine for a customer and have had nothing but problems with it.  I got a call from her last night to tell me that the CPU temp on the display is in the 70 C range and she is getting nervous about it (frankly, so am I).  I'm picking up the PC from her in a few days to see if I can lower the CPU temp any.  Here's what I'm thinking of doing:
    1) Since I already lapped the bottom of the heatsink and used Artic Silver thermal grease, there's nothing else I can do in that area.  It's already optimal.
    2) The heatsink is 100% copper with lots of cooling fins.  There isn't a better thermal material for a heatsink, within reason.  Aluminum is no good.  Basically, the design of the heatsink is good, but not perfect.  First, why they would design the sink to suck hot air off of the video card and blow it through the fins is beyond me.  Naturally, the CPU will never be cooler than the air that's being used to cool it.  The heat sink needs fresh, cool air.
    3) To provide the heatsink with fresh cool air I plan on first, turing the big fan on the sink around so it blows out, not in.  Second, I plan on replacing the little fan with a bigger fan and position it so it blows in, not out.  Then I plan on making a short duct that attaches over the fan on the right (with the front of the PC facing you) and extend the duct a few inches to the right so it is less than an inch from the side of the case.  Lastly, I plan on using some lexan and making a very small deflector to put on the heatsink's exhaust fan.  It will be about 1/2 inch wide and as long as the fan (80mm?).  It will be tilted at a 45 degree angle.  The deflector will channel the hot air away from the video card and towards the front left side of the case.  This will avoid trading one heat problem (CPU) for another (video card).
If all goes well, a drop of 10 C under maximum load should be achieved.  I'll let you know how this turns out.
I may also try the following:
    1) Buy some RAM heat sinks and using thermal glue, glue them to the hard drive.
    2) Position a 40mm fan so it blows on the heat sinks on the hard drive.
    3) Position another 40mm fan so it blows across the chipset's heat sink.

god damn thats a great idea, why didnt I think of that
I lapped my heatsink last weekend, the hardware store where i got my sand paper didnt have any grid over 600 so I had to settle with that.  But I'm still pleased with the results. I figured that that plus some some Artic Silver 5 would get me a bit on my way.
I would have documented it with my camera if the batteries just wasnt out :/
At the same time I installed a "silent" 15db@1500rpm 80x80mm Everflow fan on the left side of the case (when facing the front) that blows the air in. All of these efforts improved the temperature just a bit. The noise increased a bit but it isnt all that much trouble consithering I've spent my last couple of months with my ears next to a server that has the lovely sound level of around 60db (note: no case fans on the server at all)
As I recall the idle temperature used to be over 60c and now it sometimes drops below 50c. But most of the times its around 53-55c (all of this is at around 25c ambient temperature). But the heat problem while gaming is still a huge problem. When it hits around 70 the computer crashes.
But before my efforts to do something about it, it would die within 10min of high load. Now it can take up to about an hour (depending on how the ambient temperature is).
Next up I think I'm gonna try out your idea. Switch the fans, and maybe even install another Everflow fan having 4 fans totaly pulling the air through the case (but from right to left this time :P)
why call it MSI Entertainment Gaming Applicance if you cant entertain yourself by gaming on it ? =P
