BUZZING LCD PROBABLY AFTER WRONG RESOLUTION SETTING

Hello everyone! I've a 15,4" MBP equipped with C2D Penryn CPU and i've noticed this problem: if I put my ear really close tho the central part of the keyboard and near the screen I can clearly hear a light but constant "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" sound that disappears if I turn completely off the screen. In all the other cases and at all levels of brightness it's always present with almost the same intensity. Can it be related to the fact that 2 days ago trying a videogame on windows xp with bootcamp I've set for distraction the resolution of the game to 960 vertical pixels (the res was exactly 1280x960) while instead the max vertical resolution supported by my MBP is 900 pixels? I've then changed the res to 1280x800 in a minute when I realized the error but maybe it was too late... I'm really scared about the idea that I could have damaged my laptop.....****! Anyone of you guys has ever experienced a problem like this and can you tell me if setting an improper resolution, also if it's not very different to the maximum admitted, can damage the gpu and/or the screen? Well I've also to underline that just for a case i've put my ear near the keyboard and I've heard that sound, maybe it can also be a peculiarity for every MBP and I've never noticed it before.Thanks a lot for your support.

It's unrelated to resolution. It has to do with the magnetic components (transformers) that are part of the high voltage inverter circuit. Sometimes the level of buzzing will be tied to the level of brightness, but in this case it sounds like it isn't. There isn't anything to be done about it short of trying to get Apple to replace the inverter as a warranty repair. But if the buz doesn't bother you much, it may not be worth it because the replacement inverter could have the same issue.
It's not a concern from a reliability point of view, it that helps.

Wrong resolution after resuming from sleep

I started having this weird problem some time ago, it's important to note that I haven't had this problem right after installing Arch.
After waking my laptop from sleep I get a brief black screen with "ACPI: unable to dock" error message and then the desktop shows up but with a resolution of 1333x750 which oddly enough does not match any mode reported by xrandr, and I can't manually switch to any other resolution untill I either log off and logon or reboot the laptop.

No. Powering off and on again didn't work. My drive is a Seagate 750GB internal SATA drive in a Vantec NexStar-3 external enclosure. I don't think it is a driver issue. After the device removal error it won't mount on my PC or my Mac via FireWire or USB.
What I need to know is if there is some way to connect to the drive and make it mount with other software, using some kind of keystroke during startup, or maybe through terminal or something. I can't even try to repair the drive because it won't show up in disk utility.

Wakes up to wrong display setting then quits everthing !

I have a mac mini running an updated snow leopard plugged via an adapter into the HDMI slot of my Philips 40" LCD screen. For some time now, whenever I wake up the mac mini and the TV (both of which go to sleep after a period of inactivity), the screen starts off with the wrong display setting moving from 1360 x 768 to 1600 x 900 which is a much worse picture. I can switch it back through the menu bar, and that usually works, although sometimes, it also quits any open apps so I get multiple 'unexpectedly quit' error messages. This can also happen if I use the remote to wake it up without turning on the TV.
Any ideas how I stop this ? I have repaired permissions and also verified and repaired the hard drive and that seems to have a short term impact.
Any help would be much appreciated.

See if there is a way to turn off CEC on the Philips through its menu system and see if that helps.

LCD off after OS 10.3.1

On my Z30 I did the OTA (Rogers) on Feb 19, 8 PM and was able to use 10.3.1 until I left
the device charging overnight and then it bricked.
Display was off and and all I get after numerous resets was periodic red LED pulsing. I used Link to try and update and it would start and then say device update not complete. So then i tried to use Link to go back
to factory default load. same issue. I then used an autoloader to 10.2.1 and same problem
then autoloader to 10.3.1.1581 and still no luck.
summary of steps:
1) hard reset by holding top switch down for 30s
2) made sure fully charged
3) connected to PC and saw that device manager recognises the device.
4) windows explorer sees the SD card and onboard memory
5) In Link tried SW update to latest version and also back to factory
***these didn't appear to complete (in hindsight because the device prompts onscreen probably to complete
the set-up but I couldn't see the screen!
6) from crackberry forums was able to find and run autoloader to an older version of the OS
and then to most recent version (10.3.1.1581). Same problem as before no screen.
7) Determined the issue is the LCD display by hooking up HDMI cable to TV and indeed the device is fine and using settings/about I could see the following SW is loaded:
10.3.1.1581 SW
10.3.1.2267 OS
10.3.1.2268 radio
So the device is fine, except the LCD. I have had 0 issues with my Z30 till this OS upgrade.

Using HDMI to TV i was able to launch and run BB Virtual Expert.
The LCD touch tests pass
All colour tests pass, mind you this is HDMI output to the TV.
all other tests pass (I skipped some because it's so annoying navigating via TV).

Automatic TV Mirror resolution Setting

Whenever I plug my PowerBook G4 to an external TV monitor and switch to mirroring, the resolution automatically changes to 800x600, which really ticks me off because not only is it not what I want--I want 1024x768--but it's so small that I can't even access the Monitor icon in the menu bar! I have to go to the Apple menu, open System Prefs, go to monitors, and reset it there.
How can I set the system so that every time I plug into a TV and start mirroring, it automatically goes to the resolution setting that I want?

It sounds like the computer is detecting the default resolution of the TV.
I don't think that's the case, or if it is, then it's irrelevant. I connect to two different TVs; one does the right resolution, the other one does the wrong one. I seem to recall having this same problem last time I installed a new OS, and somehow I overcame it.
Whether or not it's detecting the TV's resolution (unlikely, as it's NTSC and the resolution is 525 lines), I need to find a way to get it to automatically jump to the resolution I want when I plug it in.

Mac mini displays the wrong resolution

Hi everybody.
My Mac mini recently began starting up in the wrong resolution (1024x768, instead of the usual 1280x1024.) From my experience with older, 680x0 Macs, I reset the PRAM. This fixed the problem, but I find that I have to do it every time I restart the computer.
Is there a battery inside the mini that needs to be replaced?

Try using the Finder to search for files with the name 'windowserver' (no quotes of course. You should find 2 or 3, including one with a string of additional alphanumeic characters. Move all three to the trash and then reboot.
These are the files that control screen properties, and the system will recreate new ones in the absence of the originals. Startup may produce an erroneous resolution if your screen is not tightly connected and thus not properly recognized, but if so, aside from checking the connections are firm and tight as suggested, you should then be able to set the required resolution and have the system retain it correctly.

My web page uses svg images, but when the svg's are printed by Firefox they are rasterized at the wrong resolution.

I have produced a web page which uses svg images. One of these is here:

The svg's are produced by Adobe Illustrator, version CS5. Viewed in any browser the images look good at any magnification, but when I print the page in Firefox the image is seriously blurred, seemingly because the rasterization uses the wrong resolution.
The same happens in all browsers, not quite so bad in Chrome but still not perfect.
Do you have plans to fix this bug, or do you have a workaround?

In my experience, print quality settings such as dpi/ppi are hidden in your printer driver settings and not directly available through Firefox's UI. In the print dialog, if you click the Properties button, you hopefully will gain access to this setting. Obviously native web resolution (96ppi) can give disappointing results, so hopefully you can find a place to increase it.

The sending of email is accomplished via the SMTP server. Take a moment to get back into Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars and select the account. Go to the SMTP server and check to make sure that username and password are entered in all of the appropriate places. If you cannot get it to work after trying to just change those settings, remove the account from the phone and recreate it. When recreating, make sure you enter the username and password in every location, even if the phone says optional. Make sure you have the settings from either the email provider or from the other device. Make sure that SSL is on or off as necessary.

Probably not.. but I cannot say for sure. It depends how the networks are linked.. which you haven't explained.
Anyway you can always find out by simply opening finder and seeing if the TC is available. If not you cannot back up to it.
Explain the setup a bit more and we can probably help a bit more.

Mac Cube resolution setting for TV's

I'm trying to connect my Cube to my home TV to watch movies directly off of my Cube but seem to run into problems with the resolution setting on the TV.
My computer starts cycling on, but then suddenly goes black after a few minutes and I don't know why my desktop doesn't show up on my TV.
Any suggestions about why it is that my Cube desktop doesn't show up on my TV. I have a Sony Wega 42" TV.

well if this the first time connecting it up to the TV take your monitor out to the TV and connect both to the computer and then you will see the screen on the monitor and then go to you display prefs and click detect displays. and make sure you change it so the primary is the TV. after that you won't have to do that again. any time you connect the TV it will show up. you may not see the gray screen with the apple.
if that does not make sense tell me and i will try to clarify the steps.

First of all u have to create tax category via the menu path;- IMG> SD> BF> TAXES> DEFINE TAX RELEVANCY OF MASTER RECORDS> CUSTOMER TAX. Here u need to create tax categories e.g vst - input tax, etc. tax classifications.
Then in customer master record in the billing tab u have to enter tax classification, here the tax category is changed according to tax class.

Are you trying to login to an account you already made (on an iPhone or similar) or create a new iCloud account?

Display resolution setting

Somehow I changed the resolution setting for the display on my MacBook. Now I'm not sure what to set it. I currently have it on 1280 X 800, but I'm not sure that is right. Any help will be appreciated.

I've been dealing with the same issue. I can tell you if you go into start, control panels, displays, settings and change the display to the next setting down - maybe 1280 x 769 (guessing) you will get a much crisper display. My question is how do you keep those setting so you don't have to reset the display each time you boot to XP???
