Buzzing Sound from Powerbook G4

I'm experiencing this problem with my Powerbook G4. The problem has been occurring pretty much ever since I owned the machine, and it's driving me up the wall!!
Whenever the machine is using some sort of Firewire Audio device it emits a loud buzzing/scraping sound, coming from under the left hand speaker. The buzzing gets worse when I start an audio App of some sort, such as Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Sibelius and even humble iTunes!
I've tried a Digidesign MBox 2 Pro, and an M-Audio FW410, both of which exhibit the same behaviour, and don't cause the same problem when I try it on other Macs (I've tried it on an Intel Mac Mini, a MacBook, and a MacBook Pro so far).
Things I've tried to fix it:
1. Unplugging the Mac from the mains power and unplugging the interface from the mains, and all combinations of the two.
2. Reinstalling Mac OSX (I've tried both 10.4 and 10.5).
3. Updating drivers.
I've got AppleCare, and the technicians at my local Apple Store kindly took in the machine and have now replaced the entire Logic Board twice, and still no change in behaviour. I'm now in discussion with Apple Technical support, who take the line that there isn't a problem with the machine, it must be the third party device. I would agree with this of course, except I've tested the devices on other machines, and they work fine, plus the two devices are from two different manufacturers. I do feel a bit like Apple don't know what's wrong and are giving me the easy answer of "it's not our fault".
One of the technicians did mention the sound was coming from one of the logic chips on the board if that helps anyone!
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?

The speaker volume is stored in the PRAM, so you might try resetting it next time you have the problem:
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

A: There is no such thing as an unlocked iPhone 3Gs in the United States. ALL iPhone 3Gs's sold in the US are locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones, therefore it is not legitimately unlocked.
B: Sprint is a CDMA network as others have mentioned. They do NOT use SIM cards. The iPhone 3Gs will NEVER work on Sprint. Ever. It's not physically possible.

  • Buzzing sound from iPhone 4S headphone port

Is it normal for my iPhone 4S to make a buzzing sound from the headphone port even though the phone is in standby and when it's on?  Should I go to the apple store and exchange it?
    Thanks

    Hello shludington,
Thanks for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
If you are hearing unexpected sounds from your headphones when they are plugged in to your iPhone, try these troubleshooting steps first:
You can fix most headset issues with a few steps. Try these first:
Unplug the headset and clear any debris from the headset jack. Then plug it back in.
Make sure the headset is plugged in all the way. If you’re using a case, remove it to make sure it’s not getting in the way.
Check the headset cable, connector, remote, and earbuds for damage. Make sure they’re not blocked or dirty.
Try using another headset. If the issue happens with the other headset, contact Apple Support for help. If the other headset works, contact the headset manufacturer.
Try using a different iOS device with your headset. If the issue happens with the other iOS device, contact the headset manufacturer. For Apple headsets, contact Apple support.

  • Buzzing sound from headphones.

I did a search for this issue and got a few results but unfortunately none of the threads seem to have a solution. Just started today, that when I plug my earbuds into the audio port, there is a loud buzzing sound from the left earbud, even pressing mute wont stop it. I tried restarting the machine but it still persists, hoping somebody here has had the same issue and can help.
    Thanks in Advance.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try and eliminate environmental issues, if that doesn't help I'll just have to ring customer care about it.
    Thanks again.

  • Verizon Westel 327W abroad - Buzzing sound from the Power Adapter ?

So I moved to Caribbean Islands for schooling and the DSL Modem from local company here was plain 1 port one. The voltage here is 220V, so I have put a transformer and then plugged my Westel 327W into 110V and it works great.
However, I am noticing a buzzing sound from within the power adapter. The adapter is running somewhat hot since I plugged it in a few days ago. Should I be concerned about this buzzing sound or is it just that its sitting on my desktop and I am noticing it now ? Its loud enough to be heard in a completely quite small room....
    Thanks

Hi D_U, sorry to hear of your issue, sounds electrical and thereby out of my scope of support.

  • Buzzing sound from earpiece

No idea why it's happening had the phone for a year and a bit (out of warranty) and now I can't make out a single word without running around looking for heaphones all i can hear is a loud buzzing sound only when the other person talks it kind of makes them sound like a bee, is there a fix for this or can someone direct me to a previous post that can help?

    Hi again,
I've tried a couple of things since I first posted:-
There was no buzzing at all when taking a call through a pair of Astro headphones.
Unplugging these from the 3.5mm socket during the conversation stopped the buzzing from the earpiece completely (again leading me to believe that the speaker diaphragm is not defective or dirty).
The next call I made had no buzzing whatsoever from the earpiece.
The call after that did have buzzing again (audible as soon as the ringing tone starts).
Buzzing does not seem exclusive to either making or receiving the call.
I hope this is useful in shedding more light on what's going on here.

  • NEW BIOS UPDATE - Fixed buzzing sound from GPU?

It says it fixed the buzzing sound near speaker and battery when on battery power. Could this be the issue that people with the Intel Proccesor have when on battery power it makes a noise?

    Hello,
I don´t exactly know, if the bios update disable C4 states, to prevent buzzing.
But if so, you´ll probably loose battery life, cause the cpu would´t get into lower power states.
May be the fan (link in german) will be running more often, to keep the Nvidia chip cooler, also.
I think if your TP suffers from whine, then give it a try or wait, till someone could tell us here
    about his experience.

  • Buzzing sound from my microphone

I need some help after installing Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatalty Champion Series. The sound is great but yesterday while using skype my friends could hear a buzzing sound. The sound occured while I was playing battlefield bad company 2, but it's probably while playing any game. My friends described it as the sound of a shaving machine.
I use a AKG Headset GHS so it's not due to bad quality, and I also tried using an older headset from logitech with the same results. Any ideas?

Likely it's a loose fan, which I wouldn't not take care further.

Not sure if this is the same thing you heard but I get a high pitched squeal that comes from the same side, that slowly drops in pitch........It does not do it all of the time but I have no idea what is causing it. Whether it was coincidence or not but I also had some strange things happen to my display too, along with the noise.....Anybody got any suggestions as what it could be?

  • Buzzing sound from cpu?

Just recently received a refurb Rev. B MBA and I've noticed a high-pitched buzzing/scratching noise coming from the CPU under light load. It's similar to what I heard in my old MBP only louder and more annoying. I have the 128gb ssd so I know it's not coming from the hard drive. Anyone else have this issue? Is it something that can be fixed by taking it to Apple? I took my MBP in and they said the noise was within spec so I'm not sure how much hope to have for this either. Thanks for any help.

The fan should be running at 2000RPM when idling. It does sound like the CPU causing the noise. Do other people hear it also? The reason I ask, is I repaired televisions for years and ran into people that had super sensitive hearing. They could hear a high frequency vibration that TV high voltage transformers give off. I used to use silicone seal on the transformer to stop the noise. I'm not so sure Apple will replace the logic board as long as the unit is playing.

  • No sound from PowerBook G4

PowerBook G4 sound output frequently disappears. When this happens, System Preferences says "no output devices found" where it used to show internal speakers, etc. No sound through headset when plugged in either. Repairing permissions, followed by a restart, restores the sound, but this must now be done almost every time the computer is used.  Suggestions?

  • Buzzing Sound from Adaptor

    Hi All,
I have a MB that is nice and quiet when running on battery.
However, when I plug the power adaptor into the MB both the adaptor and MB start buzzing. The adaptor a lot louder and the MB just a little louder.
Is anyone else getting this issue?
And if the adaptor is changed to a new one does this resolve the issue?
    Thanks.
