BW 7.0 to 7.3 upgrade activity Checklist

Dear Team,
We are planning to upgrade our BW system from 7.0 to 7.3 next month. For that We are looking for general BW 7.3 upgradation Checklist like Pre-upgrade BW activity and post-upgrade BW activity.(More interested in Related to BW activity not basis activity)
If you have such kind a check list then kindly provide it to us. Your help in this will be really appreciated.

BO XI 3.1 installation and Upgrade activity Steps

Hi Experts,
Right now we are using BO XI R2 Version, Planning to uninstall XI R2 and do a fresh installation of BO XI 3.1 with SP3.
Do I need to install the Java latest version for XI 3.1? Right now we have the following setting,
         j2re1.4.2_04
         j2re1.4.2_16
         jre1.5.0_14
Since the up gradation of Reports, user, groups, universe events etc are from XI R2 version to XI 3.1.So Is it enough to
install BO XI 3.1 with SP 3, or do I have to go for FixPack inorder to avoid problem after this upgrade activity.
Could you please tell me about the BOXI R2 to XI 3.1 installation and Upgrade activity Steps.

Hi,
you dont need a special JRE version on the Server. With the installation of BO a own JRE will be installed for BOE. Only for developing WebI reports the developer need a 1.6.x JRE later on.
There is already FixPack 3.1 out but installing "only" SP3 should be sufficient.
I would recommend you check the upgrade guide from Rel.2 to XI 3.1:

Post Upgrade Activity: db6_update_db script

Hi Experts,
I've already upgraded db2 version from 9.1 to 9.7 but I am stuck in post upgrade activity where I need to run the db6_update_db script.
Question to this procedure: "Copy the file db6_update_db.bat (Windows) from the relevant operating system folder on the database DVD to a temporary directory (<temp_dir>)."
     Is the <temp_dir> can be any directory? If not, what specific directory that I need to save the db6_update_db script?
I've tried to create a directory and save the script but when I issue the command I've got this error:
     JAVA could not be found on the maschine
     Please make sure that the DB2PATH environment variable is set to the installation directory of the DB2 software or set DB6_UPDATE_DB_JAVA to the      full qualified path of your java.exe
I've tried this with different access like administrator, db2<dbsid> and <sapsid>adm but I have no luck.
Can anyone help me?

BW 7.0 to 7.3 upgrade-Post upgrade activity and Transport the changes

Hi Experts,
We have upgraded our BW system from Release 7.0 to 7.3. As part of Security post upgrade activity I ran Migration steps,
RSECADMIN-Extras->Migrations->Migration:Release 7.0 to Release 7.3. and later SU25 steps too.
I fixed the Roles appeared in SU25 Step 2C and made below Characteristics as auth relevant,
0TCAACTVT
0TCAIPROV
0TCAVALID
But I have few doubts before Quality movement,
1) Do I need to Run the Migration steps again in Quality and Production?
RSECADMIN-Extras->Migrations->Migration:Release 7.0 to Release 7.3
2) Do I need to transport only above Characteristics to Quality and Production or need to transport all the Characteristics and Analysis Authorization?
3) How to transport Characteristics?
Please provide your views.

Hi,
Technically its possible but it has its own consequences again based on the kind of object that you are going to Tranport.
The above statement is applicable considering that you have 3.x flow in Bi7.0 system and with no DTP's or transformation etc...
And if the BI7.0 is Unicode and 3.5 system is non-unicode then you will have lot of issues and most of the times you need Basis help to resolve the issues. So its bit risk to move the transport this way.
So its better to develop the objects once again in 3.x system and then transport from D to Q and to P as a standard practice.

MSA: Activity -- Checklist tile

Dear colleagues,
I am not sure why but when I go to Activity --> checklist tile, new button is disabled for checklist tile.
Activity status is open, so checklist can be added to this activity.
Is there any setting to activate disabled button?

Hi Milind,
I'm not sure, but probably this is what is happening.
By default, tile "Calender" is focus tile in checklist tileset. You can't create something new in Calender tile, so NEW button is disabled. If you just select right-top tile (Appointment), then new button should be enabled, and you should be able to create a new activity.
If you want new button to be enabled by default when user enters this tileset, you should write a line in appointment tile's onload event (actdet1b) to keep it as focused tile. That should do it.

Business Content Upgrade Activation Procedure

Hello Everyone,
I'm looking for a procedure or best practices document that will help me with the steps I need to follow when activating business content due to an upgrade when some of the objects have already been activated and are being used in PRoduction. As an example, we upgraded our BW system to 3.5 but didn't activate any of the Business Content so everything continued to run just fine. Now we activated a new InfoArea that overlapped some of the objects that were already active. A good example is 0REGION. The DataSource in R/3 changed to use a different table for the view so new fields are now available which are actually the same as the fields that were already there but with different names. So the transfer rules show as modified/inactive. I transferred the new structure from R/3, replicated in BW, and changed the transfer rules to use the new fields. Is this the procedure that needs to be followed for any object that was put on the tranport? I've also noticed that many InfoObjects are on the transport but the only change I can see is that the content version changed so if the InfoObject didn't really have any changes, why the version change?
As I mentioned, this is the first time we've activated new content after an upgrade and I'm totally in the dark as to what the procedure should be to follow to get everything cleaned up and up to date.
When you are activating a new area, do you pick and choose which objects you want to activate/match or do you generally just activate the entire InfoCube or InfoArea?

Hi Diane,
I think you should go with infosource or may be with application component. Collect everything of that area and let the system check the already active objects so that it is not just activating the new content but enhancing already active objects with the new content features. But take care, this option is only available when you start this activation in foreground. In background there is only a overwrite mode available which might lead to a loss of developments.

SL Upgrade + Active Directory + Time Machine

Hi all,
We are running our Mac's in a Active Directory (AD) environment. Some users are using time machine backups and we are planning on doing upgrades to snow leopard for these users, and then restoring there account profiles (which are AD accounts) to put there information back on the system. Have any of you have experience with this, any hang ups, problems or concerns. I did read that when restoring the user account, you can not be logged into that account. But was wondering if I could log in to create the base profile, log out and into a local admin account and restore that user with no problems. Thanks in advance for your help.

it usually is. but if you want you can do it that way. do it just as you described in your first post. restoring a whole home directory should only be done when logged in as a different user. again, no experience with AD here, but it works without issues on standalone machines and I don't see why it should create problems in your situation.

What Is Up With The Upgrade & Activation Fee?

I noticed that AT&T is charging both an 'activation' & 'upgrade' fee for iPhone 3GS users:

Last year I remember AT&T charging me $38 activation fee. I read that the activation fee was cut in half, but they add an 'upgrade' fee which new users don't have. So in other words, AT&T sticks the $36 to you no matter what.
I wonder if AT&T gives a discount for not delivering MMS/high-speed 7.2 HSPA/tethering available?

I upgraded AD from 2003 to 2008 R2. Before I could go into AD to create users, click on the email check box and the user would have an account on Exchange. Now this feature is not available. How do I create mailboxes on my Exchange 2003 Server for users

You can't, You have to administer Exchange 2003 functionality from Active Directory Users and Computers on the Exchange 2003 server.
FYI: Companies running Exchange 2003 after April 8, 2014 will be responsible for their own for support. More importantly, because Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, companies that choose to continue running Exchange 2003 accept the risk associated
with that.

2.0 upgrade - Activation finally complete

After 5 hours clicking back and forth... activation succeeded. The restore took about 45 min and all is well!

This happens everytime there's an update, it takes me hours to get it to "restore" and "re-activate" again, ugh.

Upgrade Activation Key is "invalid"

Folks, I'm using 1.5.6 (originally 1.5 academic version). I downloaded the Ap2 trial last night. Purchased an $99 upgrade key which came via email today. I opened up Ap2, choose the option to authorize, and it states that my key is an upgrade key, and that I need an original key.
I'm I missing a obvious step here? The email the key came with stated that I need to "open an Aperture application (Pages, Keynotes, Numbers), and then proceed to the Aperture registration pane and proceed to register Aperture".
I'm completely confused! Some one smack me and direct in the right direction.

If you didn't supply a retail 1.5 key at some point, you can't use the upgrade; the Academic version of Aperture 1.5 cannot be upgraded to 2 without purchasing the full version of 2.
